I'm 63, and I still have, and treasure, the quilt that my grandmother made me for graduation. This is exactly how she finished her quilts!! Sweet memories 💖
Great demo. If you press the folds in the corner, and then open them up and trim a diagonal, a perfect miter still achieved with a wee less bulk in the corner. (as you would a double fold mitered corner on a napkin)
I just started to learn to do piecework and am about to quilt my first project. This is much less intimidating than learning the traditional binding method, which I will be learning as I go. Thanks.
This is how I learned to quilt from my Momma back in mid 80’s. She always used a flat sheet on the back. She did eventually introduce me to real binding, but I choose this method over the other 10 to 1. I was trying to explain it to a friend but I just sent her your tutorial. Thx! It’s exactly how I learned & how I explained it to her.
I am going to use this method for a table runner that will not get a lot of wear. I am new to sewing and need to ease into binding, etc. I may hand stitch the binding instead of sewing it. thanks for this tutorial.
Almost finished my first quilt. Doing a boarder then got to figure out the batting part and back.. I was gonna use a flannel sheet for backing. Could I not add batting??? And thank you for your video
I have received a couple of family passed-down quilts that have this rolled back binding. It looks like this binding, on the edge, is the only part of the quilt that needs replacing. Would it be best to replace the whole backing and do the same wrap around binding or is it ok to just put on a different type of binding that is separate. It would then include the fabric and the color of the old quilt being different than any new binding.
I’m finishing my first quilt and used scissors to cut the batting and I accidentally snipped a small ‘v’ into the backing fabric. Can I hand stitch it to close it or should I forego this method due to my error? Thank you!!
I did the same thing! I was able to find a small piece of the backing fabric that I cut off and used fabric glue to make a patch to fit over my mistake. Patch is visible, but maybe if I used a decorative stitch when I sew it on, maybe, just maybe, it will help disguise my error.
scissors are not a good idea, they take time..plus they are not steady all the time in your hand....flip over the quilt and fold the backing back, trim off the batting with your rotary cutter

Love this. You are lucky and so is she that you love it.
Ohhhhhh thank you so much for answering me😊

Just finished my baby quilt, this method of backing as binding works very well

I love this! Thank you so much! You saved me to be able to do binding now.
Joining regular binding at the end is my nemesis…..
I can totally relate to this.... :)
What kind of scissors did you use
Pretty cool, I'm going to try this on a baby blanket that I'm currently working on. New subscriber now 👍
Brilliant, thanks for the easy to follow tutorial.
I loved this binding! Great tutorial.
Great tutorial! Thank you.
Thank you! Great tutorial 😊
Great way to finish. TGS!!!!
Nice video tutorial. Have you used this process for minky backed quilts?

Awesome! Thank you...

Thank you cant wait to do this now :)
yay! glad you found it helpful.
Thanks!!
thanks
too cute! I do the same thing if I don't feel like making my bias tape. lol.
You mentioned this method for binding isn’t as durable as the usual method. Why is that?
Because it doesn't have as many layers as the regular binding along the edge. It gets worn a bit quicker because of this.
I understand now. Thank you.

I do this as well- love the rotary cutter for quicker and straight lines!
Doesnt last as long? Why would this binding not last as long?
