I changed two struts in less than an hour. You only need to remove four bolts, I did not remove the axle, brake pads, etc. Thanks for the video that shows another option.
It is easier to removed the strut with the strut mounting assembly together. There was no need to remove the brake caliper, axle shaft, strut link or separate the ball joint. A lot of novice weekend wrenchers look for how to videos to show an effective and efficient way to perform this job. So why add a lot of unnecessary steps to perform what should be a somewhat easy job. I only removed the two shock tower bolts, and strut mounting bolt. I removed the bolt that secures the shock on the bench vice which gives you more elbow room to work with. I had both sides done in less than 90 minutes. A impact wrench does help in the ease of this job.
+Zachary Hobbs Thank you for the advice. The axle was removed to give viewers a better angle, but upon replacing at your home you will have the room to remove the strut without removing the axle. 1aauto.com
Mike struggling to get the CV axle back in taking like 1 min. I would be at it for 2 hours and miss something. Luckily you don't have to go through all that trouble.

Hey mike u dont need to disconnect everything that strut mount take nut off leave on 4 turns put crowbar behind it apply pressure and hit nut with mini sledge till it pops easy peasy
The torque spec on that upper pinch bolt is 30ft/lb. FYI. Don't tighten till spins freely and back off 1/4 turn like I did. Also, if you live the salt life, but only in the winter time, this is a royal PITA to to get the strut to come out of the lower bit. Be ready for extra time and maybe an extra set of hands. Driving the screwdriver in from the bottom rather than the top keeps the handle out of the way better. To get the screwdriver back out, if you can't get the crowbar in, a masonry chisel ended up doing the trick for me.
Does it matter which way the strut goes in. I just did this after watching this. I did both sides. But i just realized one side i put the isolater flat slope facing forward. And the other side is facing towards the rear. So I’m not sure if i have to change one of them to make them both face the same way. If you answer back it will be very appreciated

+Donny Hobbs Thanks for checking us out! This was a compilation of different repairs we did on the same vehicle for three different videos. Some of the clips are from a CV axle replacement, strut replacement, and rotor and pad replacement since we have everything off and easily accessible.
Okay, dumb question here. I own a 2006 GMC Envoy and I don’t have front axles, just steering and suspension. Am I missing something or did your model come in front wheel drive?
+David Dawson I don't believe the drivetrain is stated within the video for this vehicle so I do apologize. If you are unsure what you had I would recommend calling us or your local dealership with your VIN for assistance.
@@catfishredneck88 OEM is 35mm, but almost all aftermarket CV axles use a 36mm nut. Except for the TRQ CV axles 1Aauto sells. Those are 35mm. Why the difference? I'll tell you.... I don't know.

wakken 1994 Don't follow this video... EVER... you only have to take the wheel off, take out the end link, then REMOVE the lower STRUT mount... not including the lug nuts or the top two strut nuts, it's THREE BOLTS
Sure, if you were going to do all that. New hubs, new upper control arms, new lower control arm brackets, new sway bar links, tie rod ends, etc. But you don't have to do all of this.
Why wont yall show the driver side? Every video i see is all passenger side. I need to see the driver side because i cant remove one of the dtrut mount nuts under the brake resivoir

Yeah this was overboard. I appreciate all that you guys do at 1a auto but this was way more steps than needed.
Easier on rear drive trucks.

Yes, that should be clarified. Lots of people will do this unknowingly adding a bunch of unnecessary extra work
Could have mentioned the length of pipe used for leverage to remove the lower strut mount bolt.
That would be helpful for planning this repair.

Any idea what the part number is for the bolt and nut the go through the yoke on the bottom of the strut?

would this work for a 2008 gmc envoy as well?
+XRagingx BulletX The installation process should be very similar for this vehicle as well.
Fort Myers Florida, 8:10 pm, how much does this work cost?
Is it just me but when Mike is putting everything back together it is the old strut but new axle?

Doss your front end kit fit an 08 awd trailblazer ss
If you take the axl out (which you shouldn’t do) you’ll NEED to replace the seal too.
+Jim Kalfakis Thank you for your feedback!
Question Mine are leaking after 7 months of being replaced do I need new ones already or can it be I bought defective ones.
Is that a new bearing hub too?
Yes this vehicle had a bad one that needed to be replaced. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
Question
Do you have to remove the boot from your old struts and put them on the new ones cause I see the ones don’t have the boot
+Angel F It is not necessary to swap over the OE boot to the new part. That is just the way our strut is designed!
Is this the same for the 4.2 v6 ?

I have an in line 6 with rear wheel drive, therefore no front axles
You might have a 2w drive instead of a 4w
+David Dawson Thanks for the tip!
What's the torque spec on ball joint at the upper suspension arm
30 to n 40 ft lbs on the upper ball joint pinch bolt.
The 35mm socket for the hub is missing from your tool list.
36mm
No its 35. And not needed to change a strut. Nor removing rotor and brakes and axle.
