It's no good asking if anyone out here knows more than you DT, we all marvel at how much you know. Well done on the tidy up. Hey Karter thank you 🙏 I do know abit but there are some other guys out there that know more details and the small info. Hey shaun that’s awesome bud 👍 your gaffa sounds abit tight if you worked for me I’d let you use the ramp without question. Well done for sticking at it in the rain bud. Andy helps out a lot so I do return the favours 👍

Back in the caddy game, just swapped me old Astra cdti for a 19 plate trend line 2.0l today😊, and I do miss the 6th gear. Loving you're videos, been watching as many as I can the last week ❤👊😎
@ thanks mate 👍 I just checked the other video again and RUclips are still doing there thing to cut it out. I actually get a little embarrassed when I make editing mistakes. The last double edit was a couple years ago on a white seat Leon Cupra video. I could work out how to cut the bit out so I just deleted it.
Great video Nathan. Cracking job and so speedily done. No wonder Andy was pleased as punch with his six speed box. You and Andy are great team. Hope you both have a top weekend.
Merch looks great.also, there is a downside to this video 🫣 when we get an invoice for a garage doing discs and pads but charging 3 hours because 1 of the bolts was seized, and we say 'hang on brother John,i know a geezer who can swap out a caddy gearbox in 1.45 hours so how can it take you 3 hours to do brakes!!' 😂😂😂
Thank you I really like them hopefully people like them to, haha I know imagine telling a garage ye a guy on RUclips said you can do that in 20 minutes 😂😂 wouldn’t go down to well.
Imagine selling that van with the original 5 speed gear knob and the new owner not knowing it has six gears and one day figure it out. That smile would be good to see.

Are the first 5 gears in the 6 speed the same ratio as the ones in the 5 speed? Basically, is the 6 speed just an extra gear for high way driving or is the acceleration curve different at llower speeds? Asking for a 2017 Mk4
I had a 6-speed Tauran and a 5-speed Caddy, I think the 5th and 6th gears are the same 2krpm when driving at 90 kmh, but with a 6-speed gearbox it was easier to start on a hill with 1st gear, I'm thinking of putting a 6-speed gearbox from a mk4 Golf, it has 1600 rpm when driving at 90 kmh
5 and 6 speeds have a similar top speed to rpm ration so the 5 gears are just spread out into 6 gears. Let’s say you cruise around at 30 mph in 4th with a 5 speed you could almost do that in 5th on a 6 speed box. The 6 speeds do tend so have a slightly lower rpm in 6th gear so when on the motorway at 70 you’ll get slightly better fuel consumption
Haha I chuckled inside a little when I said it but held it in, Andy isn’t the most flexible so when he bends down I tell him he bends like a McDonald’s straw, not very well 😂👍
Hey bud I’ve done a video on T5 gearbox but only like for like. Yes you can get a 6 speed for them they come from the later t5.1 with the 2.0 TDI. They ain’t the cheapest thow 👍
Hi Nathan , Thank you for another great video , I am determined to finally do the same to my bls caddy ...hoping a 6 speed from a 2006 Touran will be the same ?? Thanks again for the knowledge & encouragement 💪👏
@YTDTETV yes, but I got my timing belt done 6 month back and apparently they also change the drive belt but not the pulley and tensioner. It's a t5.1 1.9tdi 84bhp all the videos I see are messy and not well recorded !
Love a bit of dte on a Fri . Any idea how a t6 5 to 6 speed conversion would play out ? Also cracked my rear t6 bumper used super glue to temp patch it up . Needs to come off for hot staples and possibly a rear spoiler.
Good video, quick question- to do the same in my t5.1 (65 plate ) do you know what parts I would need? 5 to 6 speed ?- carry on with the good content.👌👍
Hey John so the gearbox will come from a t5.1 or t6, I think you will need everything, drive shafts, gear selector, starter motor, and I’ve read the rear engine mount. Unsure on the flywheel and clutch. There is places I’ve seen selling a full kit so they would know the specifics 👍👍 thanks mate
Hey bud thank you and yep yours will be the same box as this 👍 whatever code I said in the video is the 6 speed you will need they are really cheap and come from the Touran 👍

Having your tools organised like that makes life so much easier I usually spend more time looking for tools that actually working 😂 just done the exact same swap but I put a brand new clutch and flywheel in but the clutch is slipping under load any ideas mate?
@YTDTETV Wow, I didn't realise that about the Touran bhp. I think with the Mk4 Caddy's, it's the 140bhp from factory models that have the 6 speed. I converted to 6 speed and a remap from 102 to 180bhp, she now sits on the motorway at 70mph purring away at about 1900rpm and mpg is very decent.......Ah Ye! 👍
When I first built my t5 I said I’d definitely be upgrading to a 6 speed but I’ve learned to love mine, don’t get me wrong if one come up super cheap I would still do it. The bigger 6 speed caddy box’s are really strong, the one we fitted in Andy’s is strong enough for his van but may not like something with more torque 👍
5th is the same ratio as 6th so both do the same speed at the same RPM in 5v6 in that style of box no gain really. 2,3,4 are closer in the 6speed. The later 02M and 02Q the 6th is like another gear so RPM is lower for the same speed as the 5speed box. Also the 02M and 02Q use bigger clutches and boxes are rated to more torque than the 5speed.
Hey bud thank you I knew there was some 0’s and 2’s but didn’t know so will put your info in the video description for everyone including me so it will always be there. One last thing is there a better gearbox out of the 2 bigger ones? Thanks again 👍
@ 02M is mk4 chassis based, O2Q is mk5/6 chassis based. As for which is better, personally I’ve seen plenty of each that have let go. You can fit either but you’ll need corresponding CL/FW as there is a bell housing dept difference of about 5mm. You can still use caddy shifter, just swap the ends 👍👍

Id love to 6 speed my t5, the 5 speeds car have as much torque..
I wonder if the caddy 6 speeds are a stronger box.... more power
When I first built my t5 I said I’d definitely be upgrading to a 6 speed but I’ve learned to love mine, don’t get me wrong if one come up super cheap I would still do it. The bigger 6 speed caddy box’s are really strong, the one we fitted in Andy’s is strong enough for his van but may not like something with more torque 👍
ah ye😎😎
5th is the same ratio as 6th so both do the same speed at the same RPM in 5v6 in that style of box no gain really.
2,3,4 are closer in the 6speed.
The later 02M and 02Q the 6th is like another gear so RPM is lower for the same speed as the 5speed box.
Also the 02M and 02Q use bigger clutches and boxes are rated to more torque than the 5speed.
Can’t remember the gearbox code
Pretty sure it’s 02s is the 6 speed
Very weak box though they were a mk5 golf pd105 box
And you’re right the cups from the 5 speed do go in the 6 speed
That’s an O2S style gearbox
The other “bigger” 6 speeds are 02M and 02Q
Hey bud thank you I knew there was some 0’s and 2’s but didn’t know so will put your info in the video description for everyone including me so it will always be there. One last thing is there a better gearbox out of the 2 bigger ones? Thanks again 👍
