RUclips's most relatable diy mechanic returns to our screens, and leaves us wondering if his wife might be the most patient person to have ever lived. Good luck with the projects, and the baby, Nino!
What I love about this is that I identify so much with the: * upside down * knee on the tiny stone * arms turning to noodles * mental exhaustion * physical exhaustion * breaking stuff I'm trying to fix * frustration * distracted * taking 3x times as long as I thought I feel for you mate. Bang up Job.
You forget having to go back to the parts shop yet again for something else you didnt think that you would need😀. I can relate to all of the above as well plus all Nino's noises! Great job Nino, that was some serious work you acheived.
So true 3 hr job takes 6 lol keep forgetting tools out shed even though I've had a week to prepare them 🤣🤣🤣 best one was putting wheel on then realising I hadn't put calliper pins back in!!!
Just a suggestion, when you have seized bolts, once they start to move, go backward forward in small amounts to help clean and free the threads, don’t just keep undoing.
@@chrisaris8756if you have dpf problems cut the stupid thing out and turn it off in the ecu, since the whole thing is pointless anyway! Your engine and wallet will thank you😅

Little bit on wide open but driving normal you’d never even know they were diesel if you didn’t know about cars. We are all being ripped off by our own governments and no one is doing anything!
Step 1 - remove the entire car from around the clutch. Glad to see you didn't get far with the DPF cleaner. You really should back flow them with the cleaner or it can push the crap even further into the filter.
I like to repair and maintain my vehicles in my free time, otherwise I'm an international truck driver. I'm always annoyed about the space in the garage and that I don't have a big crane, but when I see you working outside in the open sky, I have no words but CONGRATULATIONS. Big greetings from Serbia and Keep it up

Great job madlad keep on going!!!
It really is amazing to see how far your abilities have come on since the beginning of this channel. Whilst taking the gearbox out on axle stands is daunting even for an experienced professional, you are just getting on with it and making it look easy. Honestly, you have inspired me to do so much more on my own car because of your persistency and whenever I think about giving up, I think 'What would Nino do?' and find the hammer! Honestly a pleasure to watch and always makes my day to see another video come out.
I'm a qualified mechanic and would say you did very well indeed. I do this stuff at home too and can identify with your pain, especially the rain! and of course the pleasure in the end. What I would say for those doing it at home you spend a lot of money on tools for the job. Over the years more than the secondhand car. awesome
Nino, I feel your pain with the clutch change. I've done a couple of clutch replacements myself but it feels great once that gearbox is back on. Lining the gearbox up with the engine is like docking with the ISS. All the hard work was worth it in the end.
There are places to change and refit a gearbox but a gravel drive doesn’t seem to me like one of them.i admire your enthusiasm and lunacy. Best of luck with the projects and channel.
I love your work, my nervous twich came back after this video: Tiguan TDi 4 motion. Had to do the clutch cos I got scammed, slave cylinder also failed on the way home. Had to drop subframe / make an engine bridge, disasseemble 4Motion / remove gearbox / and retutn 3 incorrect clutch kits..... All done on a sloping rough driveway. I feel your pain ..... And Victory!! Huzzah!!
You should get you some 12x12 wood blocks to throw under car. That car come off them stands and new bady might not have a Daddy. Get some old rims welded together.. throw them under car. Just some back up working on your own.
Great video, and a smart trick I learned from a friend and mechanic. When you are working on the brakes hydrolics, depress the brakepedal and lock it in place before you start. That way you block the master cylinder whitch will let no fluid thru the brakelines. There"ll be next to no spilled brakefluid on the ground. Works great:)

@@jens-s12+1 on bike tinkering, for me. I like that there’s nothing you can’t tackle on a bike, if you’re brave enough! And you’ve a good chance of doing it inside, whereas having a big enough garage to get the whole car under cover is less easily done. Who else remembers changing a clutch while parked outside a row of terraced houses?

No better relief as a shade tree mechanic when you are done, it works and you havent created any other issues that need to be fixed. Love the video. Cheers.
Hey, just a tip: put some silver anti seize on the disc retaining screw threads and only tighten them finger tight. They do not need to be tighter. They are only there for keeping the disc on during disassembly and reassembly. you will never have a problem with them again in any car as long as you live as long as you follow that procedure
You need to post more soon! honestly I watched many guys fix up newer cars than this even super cars but nothing compares to fixing everyday affordable gems like you do. You make us all believe that every thing has a second third forth tenth chance. This is perfect for the guy who doesn't believe he's good enough to change something on his car. So inspirational. Keep it up buddy. Your so positive. Ps. If your thinking of a new project or your cars just broke get stuck in you'll smash it take his positivity and succeed. We all believe in you. ❤
I bought a high km Volkswagen Caddy 1.9 TDI (BSL) It's practically a Golf and Touran. The thing with these high mileage cars is you will need to replace many parts. I've replaced too many parts to list, lol
It's a shame about volkswagens, used to be so reliable. I bought a Polo from a big retailer, nothing but trouble. It randomly cut out all the time, there was a sensor telling the ecu that it was -86⁰. Every new sensor did the same. My dual mass flywheel stopped working, it wouldn't go up the slightest hill. 3 years old, kept costing arms and legs 😮
I feel the pain, i removed my A4 avant gearbox in the winter 3 years ago, I still got evidence of cuts and bruises. Had to get rid of it due to ULEZ and got myself 05 Honda Civic for £1,300, no wrenching needed peace of mind. When you got a load of bangers, best to have one Toyoya or Honda as a backup reliable.
This is so real! I feel all the frustrations. So many other repair videos make it look so easy and don’t ever take into account the physical exhaustion involved.
I used to get the wife involved in the early days . I used to put a beam across the bonnet landings and get my wife to take up the slack on the rope after lifting the gearbox by hand a few inches at a time. Once I had the gear box located, it was my wifes job, to take up the slake on the rope again and then put the first top bolt or bolts in place whilst I held it it place. I worked for myself doing cars for a living for many decades. I am retired now and we are still married. Best of luck to you feller, that did not look easy on that dirt, I have done it on the road, but that has got to be much harder. In my opinion VW's and most European cars have been crap for the last 20 years.
The shots of you walking to and from the shed are HILARIOUS! You definitely have to keep those up in future episode! Congrats on the repairs though. Some tough jobs you've done there. You should be really proud you did them solo.
Nice to see another non-mechanic rolling around in the gravel outside, scrambling to beat the sunset, with the rain as his arch nemesis and nearly crying from exhaustion of the struggle. I can relate to this so much. Subscribed.
As someone who works on my own car this channel is so relatable. The first thing to check when dealing with stuck brakes is to make sure the slide pins are not frozen. As for the DPF if its blocked with sooth use on car dpf cleaner it's foamy comes in a can with tube that you stick in oxygen sensor hole or pressure sensor if blocked with ash then you have to remove it off the car and reverse flush it.
The first time my 2.0 TDI wagon had catastrophic engine failure, i wanted to be the hero and fixed it all! 25k later it did it again and I took a $10,000 loss. Worst car I ever owned.
@@EndstyleGG Oiling issues, first time was lack of maintenance by previous owner, second motor had the upper oil cooler o-ring fail. Pumped out all the oil during a road trip.
This was motivating and relatable to watch. Ive spent plenty of time in the rain fixing cars, but its so satisfying when they get a new lease of life. My A4s just hit 270k and certainly viable to keep going.
Yet millions of people keep driving them past 200-300,000 miles with good care. My 07 gti has 260k miles Had a toyota camry and a celica, both ate oil and were usually reliable for the most part. A bit slower though. Current 07 camry eats 1 quart a week, my gti is about 1 quart a month. 500+ miles a month
@@adhizzle9985I’ve had tonnes of Toyotas and a fair few VAG products as well: Polo Gti 1.8t, A3 1.8t wagon, S3 2.0t, and both mk4 & mk5 R32’s. All of the VAG stuff was solid, far more so than people give them credit for. But they are certainly more fragile than the Toyotas (performance models incl). I had 10x more CEL’s with the VAG cars, DSG issues on the Mk5 at 110k. Same same with oil leaks and usage across the lot. My S3 leaked and burned like a sieve though… But so did my Prado (given the Prado had twice the kms 200k vs 400k). All in all the Mk4 was the best VAG car I owned, didn’t have an issue with that at all and drove it all over the North Island of New Zealand. That was the only one I would consider was on par with Toyota’s build quality and reliability.
Congratulations on the baby! Being a dad is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. Thanks for all the fun content, you’re doing great. And please tell the Mrs thanks for letting us borrow you for the occasional video. Good luck you three. All the best.
Well done mate, I reemeber changing the gear box on my Golf 6 Plus some years ago. Forgot to firmly reconnect the reverse gear sensor and wondered why traffic was being impolite while I was "clearly" reversing. Bench pressing the new gearbox into place for 30 minutes lying on the ground was the most fun.
The satisfaction that comes from these types of jobs is something many will never understand! From the relatability, to the struggles and successes it’s what keeps us all here, thanks for another well put together video Nino!! Also when I say relatable, not all of us have a sister on speed dial for parts 😝
Your effort and Persistence in Making Things Right Again were Heroic! Good on you for not giving up! I admire the VW line and am grateful to you for saving this one from the Boneyard. Your lovely Wife also deserves a gold medal for her patience!
I can literally feel the frustration myself, watching you working on the car - The feeling that the dead stuff is really not dead but mocking you and doing anything possible to obstruct you reaching your goal :D
As a complete DIY'er who often has no idea what I'm doing and to the smallest budget possible, I find your videos so inspirational. Keep making these and may all your future bolts be unseized!
As soon as you realise nobody really knows what they're doing along with the fact you can get the official workshop instructions for almost any vehicle everything gets clearer lol
I owned a MK6 Golf (CAYC Engine) and it was by far the worst car I have owned. So many issues, similarly to yourself I was also sold the car with a EGR fault which had been cleared prior to buying and testing the vehicle. I fixed the EGR with a Ridex branded one for £130, rather than taking to a garage, but was a PIA. I then had other issues such as a constant whine of the headlight adjuster, adjusting 24/7 even when stood still. Then was new calliper at the same time, as the seal was shot on one side so yeah, very similar to your experience. Next issue was a dodgey bonnet latch which would open on it's own. Window reg was squealing a crazy amount, so replaced the window regulator. I no longer own the car, and do not wish to ever purchase a Diesel or Golf Diesel again.
You're a hero, Nino. All that work without having any sort of garage, so it's all out in open weather. You had no training, but you deliver proper results despite all of that. And on top of that, you're an honest, genuine guy that I'd love to have a chat and a beer with at least twice a week. Best wishes to you and Naomi for your first born. May it all go smoothly for you. 😊
I just found your channel a few days ago and I’ve already binge watched every video! Instantly became one of my favorite channels. I really hope you get to go full time soon so the videos are more frequent because I absolutely love them! Keep up the awesome work man.
Well done - what an effort. I had a similar situation where our main car wasnt breaking, whereas the project cars were not driveable. A few things that might be useful - When filling in the liquid, you could hang the fluid tank above the hole and let gravity do its job. In order to loosen bolts used break fluid is helpful. In addition you can get a nut breaker (literal translation) and for the round screws there are special drills with for round screws.
The worst experience I've had with a vehicle in my life was a 9N Polo, so many mechanical issues in such a short space of time, it's amazing that there are still any older VWs on the road at all, the computers seem to be programmed to die after 10 years. The engine in mine was also the problematic BMD engine which eats valve guides for fun, those failed requiring a head rebuild. I gave up on saving it after the engine started to eat itself a few months after that. You are a much more patient man than I am.
I gave up on volkswagen long time ago. Same horror stories like this car. Now we drive Renaults at our house as dailys. Change oil and put gas in it. No problems. Havent had to replace a tie rod end in 3 years. They just built well. Passes MOT every time. No rust, no electrical issues.
Fantastic. I can relate to this so much, the tools that aren't quite correct but you make them work, sat on a damp driveway, the swearing, everything takes twice as long as expected, getting distracted with fixing other stuff while in there. Unlike most these videos where someone is working on a ramp, in a workshop, everything very clean, tons of help etc.
Thats funny. My parents has the same MK6 golf, and that too is the worse car they have ever owned. I think they build all the MK6 Golf 2.0 TDI's on a friday. EGR issues also (now deleted), duel mass flywheel deleted because that also was broken as well as loads of other issues. And its low milage and in good condition and looked after.
Great work! , couple of tips to make your work easier as I also discovered, some small changes go far: use foam mats while under car, makes for more comfortable work, use gloves for better grip and protection, get an electric ratchet to speed up the work.
Nice one. I did my mechanical apprenticeship in the eighties. I hate working on modern cars like this as I cannot stand how complicated they are, so I don't work on them. I now only do what I really like doing which is working on classic cars and bikes - and there is no way I would now do what you just did laying in the mud and sh*t so fair play to you! 👍
If you have any further dpf issues there's a fantastic video on here from a guy down under who tests the best chemicals to clean it out. In short those cleaners like wynns only remove soot. To remove the metal salts that build up (and aren't removed by the regen process) you need to flush with 2 molar hydrochloric acid. Obviously the dpf needs to come off the car. Worked wonders for me. Just remember to wear proper ppe. The acid is nasty stuff.
Crikey, acid to regenerate the DPF? I believe you, I just wouldn’t have guessed it. Most crap that accumulates in motor & drive train components will come off with powerful, organic solvents, ranging from white spirit to aerosol brake & carburettor cleaner. Sometimes, high heat, sufficient to burn off residues (so long as the components can tolerate it). I’ve come across aqueous solvents only on the basic not acid end, the old warm caustic soda soak for two stroke exhausts. Incredibly messy and can be spectacularly dangerous to skin, lungs and especially eyes, but boy, it really works. Can you educate me a little on the hydrochloric acid application here? My daughters 16 plate Polo diesel still seems good at 70k miles but I’ve never considered if there’s some preventative maintenance I ought to be scheduling. Cheers!
I have laughed my way through this episode. I did the clutch on my son's car last year, there were two of us, the gearbox fell off the trolley jack about 5 times trying to get it past the subframe. Well done doing it on your own.
Everything you've talked about is why I got rid of my MK6 Golf. I knew it was coming after I started to get different issues such as the Air conditioning packing up, and the rear brakes seizing on. I had to renew both rear calipers, discs, and pads when that happened, and I'd just had enough at this point. EGR, DPF, Injectors, DMF. They're all common MK6 TDI issues. I also had issues with the car getting up to temp and staying there. VAG Group - Never again, the reliability is a complete myth.
Just done pretty much the same, drivers wing, gearbox and clutch replace. Refurbished both front callipers, new hoses and fluid change. Just have oil change and filters left to do. Good job you did there, well done. 👏
i used the same dpf cleaner on the car. it works so much better when the exhaust is little warm from my experience. once all the liquid has gon tru turn the car on and hold the revs at 2k. works like a charm
I am 64 now so beyond doing this sort of thing, but all of your efforts do resonate with me- been there done that (albeit on simpler cars). You are a bit of a hero in my book ! You should now have a nice sorted Golf. BUT - next time buy better and know the weaknesses in the car you're buying, DMF problems write off a lot of these cars.
Oh man... I have a 2007 Skoda Octavia RS TDI which shares a lot of components and the layout is the same. It has well surpassed 300k km and the DPF was tired. Have just spent a whole weekend under the car taking the DPF out, emptying it, and refitting alongside all subframe bushes and rods. All I got left is a good remap (DPF off, EGR off and a Stage 1) to bring it to +200hp and make it quick and reliable. Being under the car sometimes you feel like in the 4th circle of hell, but once it's all done and the engine starts right up... Nothing beats that feeling! Great video
I had a mk6 golf 2.0 TDI 2010 plate had the EGR removed and the DPF opened up removed part of the guts then re welded back together no more problems emissions still spec cost me £600 never had any problems since ,sold it on 2yrs ago it’s still passing it’s mot not failed on emmissions.
So smoke coming out of a turbo or somewhere around turbi and the burning smell in the cabin while car is moving means either DPF is regenerating or turbo oil seal broke?
I can totally relate when I replaced my clutch, flywheel and bearings and motor mounts. Took me forever to get the transmission in and when I did, I realized it was impossible to get the rear engine mount back in. Ended up having to drop the subframe the next days. Drove it gingerly for a while after for clutch break in and now it drives like a dream. I have no other backup car and winter was coming. Looking back, a mechanic was willing to do the job for 1000$ (about 600 GBP) and shoulda jumped on the deal. Still, I learned a whole lot, nearly cried in despair a few times and nearly cried with joy once the job was done. I can totally relate to that mix of pride, ecstasy and relief for a job that had to get done be well done.
Changing a clutch on the ground is not for the faint of heart. My car also has 3/4 engine mounts connecting to the tranny so once the tranny is out and the engine is on jacks, there’s no towing the car anymore and no way out! Know what you are getting into before you attempt this and a transmission jack that you can orient is pretty much a necessary tool for this job.
Through all the thrown spanners and curse words, when you turn the key and everything just works as it should, it immediately makes it all worth it. Good work

Quick tip if you have stripped out Torx screws or bolts. You need a set of Vielzahn or many-tooth (I hope) in englisch. They saved me numerous times on rounded hex or torx bolts. Use the size slightly larger but only just, hammer it in with all the hate of lying on tiny stones and with pressure towards the bolt turn it. If done correctly, it will almost always work.
I'm a hobby mechanic and I've bought a few in the past, my mistake was I was looking for cars that needed too much work, it is best to buy cars in good condition as it can take a long time and effort to repair all the faults and get a car to perfect condition, it will also cost a lot of money. These cars can be a big loss.
Nice one mate! I did pretty much the exact same job on my 1.4 TSI and getting the gearbox back in took me an entire day. (No tools) unfortunately the car has now developed a catastrophic fault. The engine is burning so much oil and has low compression on cylinder 4. Looks like I need a new engine or to rebuild the engine.
Did you use lock tight on the fly wheel bolts? Problem with DPF'S are the snott gets burn off and ends up as Ash. You can't burn Ash. Think of a coal fire at home. Over time the fire place builds up with Ash and you then have to clean the Ash out. Something happens with DPF. It fills up with Ash and dosent get burnt off...... Also I would of done the crank seal after you took the fly wheel off.....just my 2 pence worth
I owned VW's ever since I passed my driving test,30 years ago, but gave up on the brand 5 years ago, for many of the reasons you highlight in this video. It was like losing an old friend, but for the sake of my sanity and wallet,I knew that there would have to be a parting of the ways. A family member constantly banged on about Toyotas, and how reliable they were. I never really fancied them, perceiving them to be rather fuddy-duddy, but when you are stuck on the side of a fast A road in the rain, reliability suddenly becomes rather appealing. To cut a long story short, I dipped my toe in the water and bought a very cheap, high mileage Toyota Auris with 130,000 miles on the clock. I deliberately opted for a high mileage example to see if Toyota's supposed reliability had any merit to it. I ran that car for 2 years, and it never missed a beat. I now have a 2022 Toyota Corolla, and whilst it is not as sporty as a Golf, it never lets me down. I am now a Toyota convert !
Absolutely LOVE these repairs, you have a great attitude and work ethic .....gives the rest of us driveway mechanics HOPE. ! Well done ( done similar down here in OZ )
lmao mine is reliable af.. ive got 2.0 tdi... did dpf delete and everything is working fine :) .. btw getting dpf off there is easy and you can do it pretty much from under the car.. without loosing out the frame . ... and the clutch change get me and my friend like an hour... so easy!
Absolutely hate people ripping people off 😢, and you seem such a lovely person and just getting on with it not letting it get you down mate well done honestly, and you're good lady right behind you excellent, not taking the p do you wish you kept the jaguar you raffled off, best wishes to you and your nearest and dearest have a fantastic weekend enjoy ❤
Very relatable. My wife is at 32 weeks now. It’s the first time in 7 years I haven’t had a car in my garage taking up all my time 😅 brave man, your wife have patience for sure 😅
Glad everything works out. Last time I did a clutch on a jack stands, it took me 11 hours. Fitting the gearbox back onto the engine wasn't easy AND I do not have a transmission jack like yours. Anyway, AS FOR THE BONNET: To get the sticky residue off, the best tool is WD40. WD40 will melt away the residue doing minimal damage to the clear coat.
I'm 2 mins in. I detest these car issues on cars loaded with all kinds of problems. Stop stop stop people and throw it away so nobody else suffers either. I will continue watching til the end.
Absolutely well done and especially the conditions you worked in. 'Never again' are the exact same words I said myself when I once replaced the clutch on my old 2.2 diesel honda civic. The weight of the bell housing was extremely heavy and such a relief when you get that first bolt back in.
Watch some RUclipss like Williams Mobile Cluch Service - he does cluches day in day out. He has some natty foam mats he uses under the car. Maybe invest in a sheet of plywood too. Nothing worse than trying to use a jack on stony ground. But as you say. Its so rewarding when a plan comes together.😃😃😎😎Hope the missus is OK
Hey bud, wow what a lemon, for the dpf try dpf cleaner spray approx £15 Amazon, remove dpf sensor, spray full can in (straw included for easy application), replace sensor, use vcds to clear fault code take car for drive for over 40 mins on motorway (fault code may come back so may have to clear whilst driving so passenger helpful to have clearing fault code), have to travel faster than 40 mph for regeneration to complete (dpf reached 600 oC, the spray helped this and the long drive which it couldn’t do before because of the fault code was putting car into limp mode). Cheapest easiest way to clean dpf, this was the way I did it on a diesel Audi, and no more fault code, engine lights stayed off, power was restored and fuel economy had gone back up.
Your doing fine, you are determined, take your time and your learning all the time, I was just like you but in the 1980s the cars was easier, today if you get stuck you have the internet and forums to find out. Best luck with the newborn coming and what a nice family you are. ❤ Colin from Croydon Surrey
33:45 There's also 3rd way where you trigger the DPF burn with the computer and then drive it around 80 km/h and 2800 RPM for about 5 minutes. Then check the pressure difference (in Pa) before and after the DPF. Repeat until you get that low enough (I think less than 10 Pa on idle and less than 100 Pa when you floor it on neutral). When you trigger the burn with the computer and then ride it, the ECU will burn the DPF hotter and you get more sooth out and the engine makes more power and produces less pollution as a result. I did such DPF burn twice for our car about half a year ago. The reason you have to drive it for the max temp DPF burn is to avoid burning the whole car because the DPF gets around 800 °C hot so you need air from driving to cool down things under the bonnet. If you don't trigger the burn with a computer, the ECU may not do long enough burns to get extra sooth out. The default ECU burn assume that all the sensors have been working all the time.
What I would do when replacing clutch/DMF is replacing rear main seal. It may not leak (yet), but since there's access to it, I would do it. And as you experienced it yourself, removing all that stuff isn't a walk in a park.
I've subscribed - I'm a petite lass in her 30s and prone to mechanics taking the piss; lately they claimed nothing was wrong with my sinking brake pedal. So decided to take matters into my own hands and replaced the servo, master cylinder, hoses, and now on the mammoth task of replacing my ABS only to be stopped by.... some plastic clips I can't remove. Just two ridiculous clips on a ratchet device and I cant get the buggers to move. It's the smallest things that get you every time!
I've been told that using copperslip on the threads of the exhaust sensors and bolts saves you loads of problems with the threads in future. Just don't get it on the sensor itself.👍
Brought back memories of changing the totally failed U-Joints on a 1974 Datsun Pick-Up in my driveway in February when it was about +2C outside at night. At least it wasn't raining. Good Job!
I replaced the clutch on my ford fiesta with my dad, we only had a few axle stands and a trolley jack... A few pieces of wood to take the weight of the gearbox and little patience led to me lay on the floor pressing the gearbox back into place with my dad guiding from above.. I completely can relate to that sigh of relief when you first feel the splines connect and you get a good push. It's such a good feeling, but like you said, one to never feel again 😂 Nice work mate, loving the videos
As an American I'm really impressed by your fleet. Very similar to a lot of rural US folks with room to park a few. I've had to help a friend with a similar fleet with a US focus with the DCT. Ford faced a class-action suit over it. A car very similar to this Golf as far as reliability. I myself have 5 cars in various states going back to 1995.
Really enjoyed the video! I think that Golf was abused by the previous owner. That clutch did not last very well. My mk4 clutch lasted just shy of 200K miles before the throwout bearing decided to break. The clutch and flywheel were still fine, but I swapped them anyway. My mk7 clutch is still fine at 113K. It looks like you've got it mostly sorted now and it should be good to go for a long time! I hope you have great luck with it, and I look forward to seeing the further adventures of it in the future!
This project looked very worrying at first. You kept diving into big functions of the car with out testing any of the previous work. its like up keeping the constant anxiety to finally start the car. But you mad lad did it. Very cool!
I had my DPF cleaned instead of replacing at the cost of £175, but it did the job and is running fine now . and mine is a mark6 golf too. But I have to say the real reason my DPF filled up was because the Turbo gave out and totally blocked up. The DPF with oil was thinking about removing it and doing a DPF delete as it is good, but is illegal.

Just a suggestion, when you have seized bolts, once they start to move, go backward forward in small amounts to help clean and free the threads, don’t just keep undoing.
If you still have dpf problems take the car and get it Terracleaned. Costs a few quid but had an amazing effect on my XF. Even the wife noticed

Step 1 - remove the entire car from around the clutch.
Glad to see you didn't get far with the DPF cleaner. You really should back flow them with the cleaner or it can push the crap even further into the filter.

Best of luck with the projects and channel.
you can do it on a ski slope if you're determined enough. I changed all my brakes in a train station parking lot lol
I've done it in my yard too, with no transition jack, it's harder but possible.

Yeah.. that transfer box just adds another thing to get in the way
Well done you , I've done similar

You should get you some 12x12 wood blocks to throw under car. That car come off them stands and new bady might not have a Daddy. Get some old rims welded together.. throw them under car. Just some back up working on your own.
Good advice
Your patience and perseverance in the face of adversity is remarkable, in English, well done you’re a star.
Great video, and a smart trick I learned from a friend and
mechanic. When you are working on the brakes hydrolics,
depress the brakepedal and lock it in place before you start.
That way you block the master cylinder whitch will let no fluid
thru the brakelines. There"ll be next to no spilled brakefluid
on the ground. Works great:)

Exactly this. Did my first brake job yesterday and I am still sore lol
You need a garage or workshop
Agreed
I used to get the wife involved in the early days . I used to put a beam across the bonnet landings and get my wife to take up the slack on
the rope after lifting the gearbox by hand a few inches at a time.

Your enthusiasm is astounding, 46 years on and still on the tools ,im not enthusiastic as you as i do it for a living.
You are a much more patient man than I am.
older vags are probably the most common older cars you see on the road cause most of them refuse to die 🤣
I'm slowly going backwards to simpler cars - these things are too complicated like you say.
This chanel deserves way more subscribers for the entertainment itself yet alone education!
Appreciate that 🤝
If you have any further dpf issues there's a fantastic video on here from a guy down under who tests the best chemicals to clean it out.
Cheers!
I stopped buying VW's a few years back, everyone gave me trouble. I bought a Honda and haven't had any problems.
I have laughed my way through this episode. I did the clutch on my son's car last year, there were two of us, the gearbox fell off the trolley jack about 5 times trying to get it past the subframe. Well done doing it on your own.
You’re a legend. Your videos are very inspirational and comforting knowing I’m not alone struggling with old cars on the drive. Many thanks.
That was a challenge but you did an admirable job ... all in the open air and singlehanded. Inspiring. Well done.
Golf is a good car but... You bought a car that was not maintained so... Never ever say that something is bad when you buy it.
Good work
It does indeed 👍🏻

Romans 6.23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mark 1.15
15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Appreciate the advice
The enthusiasm when it drove backwards and forwards! Can’t beat that feeling when you’ve fixed something yourself!
I felt your pain, followed by your immense satisfaction, whilst you basked in the fruits of your labour! Great job!
Thank you!
lmao mine is reliable af.. ive got 2.0 tdi... did dpf delete and everything is working fine :) .. btw getting dpf off there is easy and you can do it pretty much from under the car.. without loosing out the frame . ... and the clutch change get me and my friend like an hour...
A very honest and real life account of a diy mechanic brilliant love your channel it will be big
