Its good to know that there are fare car dealers still out there. I think the out come was for the best for you both, not ideal but these things are sent to test us. I'm definitely looking you up when i change my car. Good luck in the future.
I think you were 100% right not to accept the car back. You sold a fantastic-looking XEs. The style and colour of the wheels and trim are what made the car stand out. I can't imagine why anyone would want to swap those wheels for whats on it now? unless they had been damaged or to claw some money back from selling them. I wonder what his ebay account sales history look like? That 19" wheel style was used on the 2019 F-Type 2.0, albeit in silver not gunmetal.
I have a Jaguar XE and it did the same clicking noise with the steering - turned out a clip on the wheel arch liner had come loose and it was catching, luckily!
JLR tech here. I’m almost certain that noise is just the bolts in the column need tightening. Stick your head in the foot well and see if you can tighten them up
Hey there! I have the a similar issue, but a clunking noise and feeling happens (with the wheel skipping when the clunk happens) when turning 95%-100% Left (almost full lock to full lock), driving off the driveway or out a parking lot. Do you know if it's the track rod ends? (i.e. ball joint worn etc) Thanks!
It's the pinch bolt at the bottom of the steering column. Famous fault on mazda 6. Need lithium grease and putting back together. Also grease the steering column shaft. It's a knock between the sliding components
100% behind you Joe, if he modifies in any way, you even have to notify your insurance company, that's how serious it can be. You have been very generous with your solution, subscriber / nice guy aside!
I think your are spot on mate, fair wear and tear how can anyone expect to claim tyres is beyond me, not your fault if they hit a pot hole lol. I bet they kerbed it, fckd the wheels sideways and had to put on a new cheap set... You are doing the right thing by refusing to take the car as it substantially changed
These people always do! I’ve got to laugh at times when people say to me I should get tints! Not going to happen just like I’m not going to get a 4D number plate
I swear some people just don’t want honest people to actually make a living for themselves and the people they employ! You did the right thing Joe. In fact you did more than the right thing.
I think you were more than reasonable, having been in the trade many years ago, I was always staggered by customer expectations and that was always the most difficult part of the process.
I agree with you entirely from any angle you like. It is definitely a try on . Even if he took you to court it is highly likely that his case would be thrown out because he has drastically devalued it by the silly moderations he has done , let alone the fact he is unable to return the original wheels! By the way , I have been a subscriber and enjoy all the videos and it was my wife’s recent fiesta that you bought from us and we were very happy with the service you provided in our situation. Keep us posted about this situation ……dealing with some people takes your breath away occasionally.
Bless ya i seen you before and been watching for a while my steering rack torqe sensor went on my Rx-8 i had a issue where it was rough on lock to lock i heard a clicking noise when i turned mine right, i got a secondhand rack and took it it to a shop they fitted it and fixed it for me now im enjoying it again passed my test in December so i got to be careful 😊😊
Exceptional video. As a small business owner myself, I realise we’re all millionaires and only after fleecing customers to line our already well lined pockets. If only Joe Public knew the real story. Great and well balanced approach. 😁👍
You're a credit to the car sales trade, more used car sales dealers would do well to take a leaf out of your book. Very fair indeed. I'd be happy to purchase a used car from you and that really is saying something. Keep up the good work.
Wow! You appear to be the most honest and open car dealer on the planet! Buying the car back… You’re setting the standard. I’m not taking the mick, I’m subscribing for more.
You have been 100% fair here. I do relate to the buyer though as I bought an insigni in 2012 and it had the same thing when turning right but on half lock. It was only 6 month old though and I finally got a new rack out of it. However, whilst the issue may be the same mine wasn't 10 years old and was standard. I didn't switch the wheels I didn't say there was an issue with a tyre or the wheels. All things if damages will send stress through the rack and leads you to have suspicion. I do hope they can understand your justification and there's a decent outcome.
Truly appreciate your comments. Hes taking the mic here. In the end if the car works as intended (it drives it heats it cools etc) then its fit for purpose.
I totally agree with how you want to deal with this customer. By making the smallest changes in my eyes he has voided the warranty. I have recently purchased a Mercedes from a main dealer with 12 months warranty, I would not even consider changing anything on my car during the warranty in case, from the legal point of view it voids the warranty. Let him try taking you to court I think you would win hands down. Good luck.
I'm with you on your decision Joe. I remember buying a second hand Rover 216. The dealer offered a three month warranty, but added ( in writing) that if I wished to do 'any' modification during the warranty period, I'd need to run it past the dealer first or the warranty would become "Null and void" .
If you have a mechanic on staff (or have a good relationship with a local one), get it up on the lift and reproduce that noise while someone is under it listening and feeling for it. It could be the rack, but it could also be a joint in one of the steering links. Or another bit of suspension. This being a Jag, those aren't exactly "cheap", but they don't cost 3.5k
Don't let it get to you man I recently had a customer expect me to issue a full refund for an item arriving 1 working day late (online sales)... Then when I stated this wasn't possible and they would have to return the item first if they wanted a refund they said that was unacceptable... Just unreasonable people being unreasonable.
Every company i have ever bought from says returns are accepted if goods are returned unused in original condition. Obviously 2nd hand car is going to be used but its far from original condition. I think you are right in what you are doing.
Don’t beat yourself up. You are in business and have a valid argument. You cannot refund for a (basically) different car. The original looked fantastic. It now looks like a scouse scaly owned it (Don’t have a go, I’m a scouser and there are a lot of scouse scally’s). You have enough evidence to win out if he did take you to court (which he won’t) or to fend off trading standards. First time I have seen your channel. Impressed with the honesty. I have just subscribed. Good luck to you.
Some people have some very unrealistic expectations when buying a used car. There is no way he put those wheels on to improve the looks of the car he bought, either. You are 100% correct to return it to the buyer. Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if a court found in his favour though, if he went down that path. For some reason, they tend to side with the customer no matter what.
You did 100% right, sometimes greasing bumpstops removes/reduces noise substantially however by showing customers what they assume are massive profit margins - you'll get the odd customer trying to claw all that supposed profit back .
Literally amazed at the level of expectancy of people today. We are now reaching the point where all the kids who got participation prizes are now adults and expect everybody to go around wiping their bottom and sorting out their problems for them with no recourse. I would not have contacted the dealer for any of the points this person did in the first place, let alone try and get them to buy the car back under the circumstances shown in this video or even at all. You buy a car from a dealer and this is your car and your responsibility. End of.
Ohh sod off with this crap. People have been pulling this kind of crap since the first car rolled off a production line. Don't go try cry about "ohh the youth of today" blah blah blah bullshit.
Good return the car He probably hit a pot hole and buckled his wheels himself, hence why he changed the alloys The noise is probably just a universal joint that might Need two bolts to tighten
I have a black edition I pace and whilst I do prefer the official black finishing, BUT that car is just not as nice as it was and i would guess the aftermarket trim is not as good quality as the official badges!.... and those wheels are taking the .......! (I actually dont have the black wheels on my ipace as the chrome ones look better imo). Any stone chips and what not should have been picked up pre sale and used as a bargaining chip to get a few quid off, but once it was sold then i would say it is reasonable to suggest that is natural wear and tear. (my ipace has a scuff on the seat and i am gutted i missed it but that is on me and i would not complain to the seller) You sound WAY more understanding than most sales people and i would happily buy a car from you given what you have done here!.
Good for you standing up to them, people are so quick to make mistakes then try blame you. We had someone recently buy a set of wheels, get a discount, turn up to try haggle more, they were told they will only fit X car, and of course they get back home to fit them..they don't fit because it wasn't that car. Trouble is they've opened all the boxes and damaged them trying to force them on to the car that we said they would not fit...and now they want to return them. Absolutely not.
You have been more than generous sir. Given the circumstances the customer had no claim whatsoever. I am not a dealer, but fair is fair. Don't let it get you down Joe, you are truly a man of proven integrity and your customers should appreciate such a quality. All the very best...
Just saw the end update part. I think you have been more than reasonable. I really don’t think you needed to do that but realise you have a brand and a good image to uphold. I think you were very respectful in your video and very honest about your review without attacking anyone. I think all your points were valid. The minute you modify a car you’ve bought and then complain there is something wrong with the steering damage has been done by the buyer. My brother changed the wheels on his car and the wheels he put on ended up damaging the cars steering. I think the buyer has had an accident and has then tried to manufacture an issue. You’ve gone above and beyond and certainly were well within your rights to not give him anything.
Wow he really ruined that car with those wheels and all that black tat. I'm totally with you, he was completely on the wrong and refusing it is absolutely the right move.

I just bought a new car this week, love it. What i found interesting i mention about something with the trade in . They said they don't care as they don't sell second hand cars. Turns out none of the dealers in the area sell second hand anymore. Australia.
You do right the modifications in my option invalidate any warranty or refund unless minus the costs to put it back to the way it was at the time of purchase.
You are 90% right in what you have done, the car has had ropey modifications, you are not obliged to buy it back from him and any warranty is void, you paid to have the car brought back to you and after discussions you paid his train fare to come and collect it that was above and beyond being fair.....I would not have given him the £500, at the end of the day he was happy with his purchase at the time......

this is dealing with the public in general. i dunno how you've got the patience for it. years ago i tried to get into this kind of things with computers. sold a system to some chap, a friend's work colleague. he twisted the ps2 keyboard connector into the socket so badly it broke all the pins off and wrecked the socket. had me drive a 60 mile round trip to look at it "because or don't work" and expected a replacement system out of my pocket. I done it at "mate's prices already" was only making about £20 on it. You've got to either tell them to flat out get stuffed or just absorb the costs and get these people away from you else they just suck your time effort and money. had the same thing years later when i was fixing and flipping vintage Walkmans. sold one to some chap, "doesn't work" paid for the return postage for him, received the item, which was soaking wet in some kind of chemicals, absolutely stank to high heaven with like the plastic finish all chemical melted down. proceeds to go absolute meltdown in the messages when i told him to whistle for his refund.

£3500! 😮😮😮 Looks rubbish with the different wheels. He bought a second hand car but wants a new one.
classic case of a chav buying a car he cant afford 😞
Please give us an update on when the car is returned, good luck.
£3500?! Most likely from a dodgy garage that he knows to bump up the price quote, a little back hander
He's ruined the car
more likely hes had the wheels put a cheap pair back on sent the car back and had a more expensive set of wheels for free
Your 100% correct...sounds to me like he's broken the original wheels, replaced them with those cheap ones and now wants you to sort it!
I have a Jaguar XE and it did the same clicking noise with the steering - turned out a clip on the wheel arch liner had come loose and it was catching, luckily!
JLR tech here. I’m almost certain that noise is just the bolts in the column need tightening. Stick your head in the foot well and see if you can tighten them up
If his head is in the foot well, what does he use to tighten the bolts, his teeth lol.🤔🤔 👍👍
@@David-yo3lv You're clearly not a mechanic haha - upside down, head in footwell, arms buried up to elbows...and then the torch slips....oh the joys 🤣
@@David-yo3lv Yes?
@@firestarterutc Look up Ackerman steering noises
It's the pinch bolt at the bottom of the steering column. Famous fault on mazda 6. Need lithium grease and putting back together. Also grease the steering column shaft. It's a knock between the sliding components
That's what I was thinking. Got exactly same on my old vauxhall, from one of the links on the steering column 👍
Totally agree with your decission dude. A follow up video explaning the outcome would be interesting, if you have the time.
100% behind you Joe, if he modifies in any way, you even have to notify your insurance company, that's how serious it can be. You have been very generous with your solution, subscriber / nice guy aside!
Yea the lad is a chancer, you're in the right 100%.
Pimp my ride gone wrong, he’s made a mess of a nice car. Alloy wheels look crap compared to the original set.
He probably sold the original wheels before returning the car.
What is that bloke 14? Horrific “modifications”
These people always do! I’ve got to laugh at times when people say to me I should get tints! Not going to happen just like I’m not going to get a 4D number plate
@@bonniedrasco81664D plates are the absolute worst! 🤮🤮
how much do you think the original wheels are worth
I think you are right 100% and he is trying it on,he has not modified it he has made a mess of trying
You come across as a very fair dealer. The blokes who bought the Jag is definitely trying it on.
Unfortunately lots of chancers out there who try anything. You are doing the right thing.
Completely agree with you, Joe. You’re a business at the end of the day, the buyer will have to understand this.
You have done the right thing. Modifications here in Australia void any warranty. Have a good week. Marc from Australia 🇦🇺
No they dont unless they are illegal mods
You're a very reasonable businessman with a great moral compass. I think other dealers would be much harder on the customer
He has a RUclips channel…
Exceptional video.
As a small business owner myself, I realise we’re all millionaires and only after fleecing customers to line our already well lined pockets.
If only Joe Public knew the real story. Great and well balanced approach.
😁👍
100% behind you Joe
Joe - you’re 100% right. If the wheels are ‘no longer available’ one presumes they’ve been sold so what happened to that cash?
You're a credit to the car sales trade, more used car sales dealers would do well to take a leaf out of your book. Very fair indeed. I'd be happy to purchase a used car from you and that really is saying something. Keep up the good work.
Wow! You appear to be the most honest and open car dealer on the planet!
Buying the car back…
You’re setting the standard.
I’m not taking the mick, I’m subscribing for more.
You are so completely in the right here. The customer is having a laugh. Ridiculous. 👍🏼
You’re spot on! Tell him you’re not prepared to spend any more money on his car and he can come and collect it!
can't believe this customer, you did the right thing
Great story on the Jaaag....I'm with you on this one. I think you doing the right thing. Keep up the great vlogs...Rogie..Perth Australia.
You are 100% in the right. Love your channel & honesty
Plain and simple, the original (and far better) alloys and tyres need returning.
and undamaged, bet he can't do that . . . curbed, major pothole / kerb hit, or he sold them !!
Sounds like a right pain in the arse.
You did 100% right, sometimes greasing bumpstops removes/reduces noise substantially
however by showing customers what they assume are massive profit margins - you'll get the odd customer trying to claw all that supposed profit back .
Good return the car
He probably hit a pot hole and buckled his wheels himself, hence why he changed the alloys
The noise is probably just a universal joint that might Need two bolts to tighten
By the way they were called Propeller wheels before, we had them in stock previously and they are very rare! 4 figure set.
See it all the time. I'm part of a Focus ST owners club and some of the stuff people do their cars is beyond me. You can't buy taste I suppose!
@@Leethemetalwarriorsays the person driving a poor man's rs , mind you're own business for god sake what they do has no change in you're daily life to much opinion on others just spreads a toxic car scene. Pathetic
You're damn right. He's damaged the car and devalued it with the modifications, you should not pay anything. You must have sold it with an MOT so the steering noise is a non-issue on safety grounds. You've bent over backwards and been very kind to the buyer. Good on you, I'd certainly buy a car from you.
An MOT does not mean it is roadworthy 😂
Where are you as would love to buy one of your cars. You are so genuine which is great to see.
You’re doing the right thing Joe He’s devalued that car and now it looks awful, why would he change the wheels 🤷🏼♂️ what a idiot
You’ve been more than reasonable even taking back and looking at it.
Definitely not dodgy
There's people in this world who expect second hand car dealerships to behave like new car dealerships . That is not the way it works you pay your money and you take your choice or go to a new car dealership and pay full price. In my opinion you are totally right and tell this guy to DO ONE
Guy hasn't a leg to stand on Joe, don't worry about it, but i know you will. Stand by your guns mate.
There's an old Scottish saying "Don't let people take your softness for daftness"..Think you should be proud of yourself going above and beyond👍..All retailers need to be mindful of all the negative social media stuff that can affect businesses through no fault of there own..As you say you need to draw a line somewhere
Another Scottish saying is GET TAE F…K
this is dealing with the public in general. i dunno how you've got the patience for it. years ago i tried to get into this kind of things with computers. sold a system to some chap, a friend's work colleague. he twisted the ps2 keyboard connector into the socket so badly it broke all the pins off and wrecked the socket. had me drive a 60 mile round trip to look at it "because or don't work" and expected a replacement system out of my pocket.
I had a business for 36 years and every now and then you get these idiots pop up. Stand strong because the more you give them the more they want.
Snap buddy. I gave up my garage of 45 years because of stupid customers....
And they're popping up in greater numbers these days.
