"Where are all those notes coming from?" I remember having that experience listening to Alvin Lee. I can hear him in a lot of your examples. Thank you!
Sure thing!
You are correct Brett - this is way cool and a game changer. It really opens up pentatonic soloing and phrasing by providing more licks and notes to go to & adds all kinds of variation and nuance to one's improv vocab. Love your courses, awesome teaching style (fun and thoroughly well explained) and your guitar playing! I've learned so much from you over the years - thanks and keep on jamming! All the best - Bob
That is so awesome to hear Bob! Thanks for all the kind words!
Great lesson. Lightbulb moment for me!!! Definitely going to use this to spice up my leads. Thanks for sharing. 🎸🤟
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out Gilbert!
Bought it last night & started learning & practicing. Woke up early this morning & my heart is still beating fast from excitement. Thanks so much, Brett!
Haha that is awesome! Thanks for the support!
Awesome Brett, thank you so much for your tips here.
Sure thing!
Cool!! Good lesson..
Brett, you're a fantastic teacher and always seem to be teaching what I want to learn.
That is awesome to hear! Glad you like the vids!
Brilliant post and lesson as always Brett. And the way you explained it again in simple terms, just outstanding. Legend!! Thank you. 🎸🎸🎸💯💯💯
Thanks so much Chris! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for tuning in!
This is it! Been following you for over a year, and this is like the icing on the cake! Thankyou so much for all you amazing content!
You are welcome Michael! Thanks for watching!
Brilliant stuff. Thanks Brett.
Thanks for checking it out!
Love it when small things make such big differences. And then the blues scale position one on A/5th string 123 . Piecing these all together literally opens up the tool box if uses that can be made. You refreshed my memory when watching this video as well as many others. Where things are physically located because I play strictly by ear these videos help so much. Thank you!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Killer lesson as always, Brett. I can already feel my solos changing forever and I'm pretty dang stoked on it.
Quick recommendation if I may, assuming that is a real plant in the background there? It looks like it needs to be rotated. Plants tend to grow in the direction that will afford them the most light and will often times begin to lean or tilt as a result. Give the little dude a quarter turn to the left and see how they do. Repeat every so often until they're all right side up or whatever. I hope it helps.
* Ya'll ever watch any of those time-lapse videos showing how plants move throughout the day and even at night? It's pretty wild and it gets even wilder... on weed
Lol! Awesome! Thanks for the tip!
Been playing over 30 years and this put some pieces together that have never connected for me until now. Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out!
Excellent ! You’re such a good teacher !🇫🇷🙏🏻👍🏼🍒
Thanks so much!
😃 Cool! Just got the course. Love your courses! I'm going to be rockin' the house 😎🎸
Yes! You Rock! Thanks so much for the support! Let me know how you like it!
I have a year membership to Brett’s website and started this course last night. It’s great and well done. Some very tasty licks for sure. Watching I’m realizing how much I had already learned from Brett over the last year or so. Particularly mixing in the major pentatonic. Very great teacher. The info is presented clearly and there is enough repetition to help facilitate faster learning. 👍🏼🎸🔥
That is awesome to hear! Thank you so much for the support! You are the reason all of this exists!
@@BrettPapa thanks dude! You’re the man.
Such a great lesson - such a great teacher!
Thank ya! Glad you liked it!

Thanks John!

Awesome!

Jommy Page was a Master at it. He taught me well. Thanx.

Been watching your videos since when Marty Schwartz first had you as a repeating guest decades ago. You are a fantastic teacher! Thank you Brett.
Thanks so much!
Brett along with Guthrie and Cory are the best! The real deal. Buy everything they offer. Then learn from the best. Do it. Period. Love ya man! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow thanks! Honored to be thrown in there with Guthrie and Corey as well! Those cats are awesome!
Agreed! Jack Ruch is one of my new faves too!
Got to be teacher of guitar. THIS WAS DOPE
That opening welcome was Brett mixing 10 shots of espresso and 10 spoons of sugar
Pretty much minus the sugar! Some brain neutropics thrown in for extra kick!
@@BrettPapa nice. But seriously, this is an amazing lesson. Thanks so much!
I agree on Sambora! But ..............I really love Tim Pierce's solo on Runaway. 😎
I know every time I hear that solo I smile. Wish Tim had done more with them. So good!
Cheers Brett
Cheers!
Thanks very much. I'm learning piano and next drums and oh! guitar hopefully in the near future.
That is a good plan!
Great stuff as always Brett. Are you going to be giving some pointers on your hybrid picking as well??
Yep coming soon!
I almost feel guilty taking this for 50% off. Almost. This is what I’ve been looking for. Your teaching is so dang clear. Thank you, Brett!
All good! I give you a deal cause ya'll are so awesome! But hurry it doesn't last for forever lol!
That backing track is fire !
Thanks!
Thanks for the inspiration to:
1. Include major third to minor pentatonic.
2. When running up make a down direction than back up again or the other way around...
Cheers from Indonesia.
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
This is so useful , besides hearing van halen & ZZ in that walk down ,there is a lot of Joe Perry in the major third (which is one of his tricks ) & the swagger note just puts the cherry on top .then even more to the end it gets Slash like too
Glad you liked it!
Man I watched a video by you YEARS ago that taught a similar lesson and you can still hear it in my playing today. Cool to see you’re still teaching awesome lessons.
Thanks!
Yes. I saw it also. Great lesson. Nice to see it surface again.
Yes, indeed, that is what turns the dull flat "minor pentatonic scale" into a complete soloing language! Well said Papa Brett.
Thank ya!
Nice licks Papa! 11:18 lick is my jam!
Thanks Michael!
Just really diving in...just the Introduction was worth the price! haha. Brett you have the nastiest bad ass bend/vibrato...it's that "time slows down with attitude"....phew! Loving the course, and highly recommend it!
That's awesome to hear! Thanks so much for the support!
@@BrettPapa My pleasure Brett...I can be a John the Baptist for you! 🙂
11:10 shape 2 walk down placeholder . EXCELLENT
Thanks!
I like everything you do Brett, with this stuff your tone is so important me thinks. I tried and failed miserably, mind you I use two fly 3 amps at the end of my pedal chain. Even tried with the Iridium but just cannot get that playable tone at the minute. Contemplating what overdrive or distortion pedal might help. Also looking for that Boston sound, shame the little Rock Box is not available now.
What kind of amps do you have? The tone in this video pretty much comes all from the Marshall 1987x. I use a boss EQ for a little touch of gain and mid boost. I would find a pedal that does a Marshall type sound if you want that sort of tone. Thanks for watching!
Lovely lesson Papa thank you, also Very entertaining. What is that lovely Tele by the way?👑👑👑🌶️🌶️🌶️
Thanks! It is a stock Nash 60's style Tele.
Thanks
Sure thing!
you got the best sound out of any teacher online ..
Thanks! Glad you like it!
Great lesson!
Ha! The "hidden hybrid" tech strikes again. 🤓👍
Haha! Lesson on that coming very soon!
I like this.
Thanks for checking it out!
Yeeeeah, finaly, the second (after Hendrix unleashed ;) ) course we all have been waiting for is here! Thanks Brett, looking forward going over it soon!... By the way totally agree with your RS comment :D
Haha! Great to see you again! We have been talking about this one for a long time lol!
I've just got your course , that's amazing and it's what I like to play
Sorry for my silly question but what I need most to understand is your picking hand to run on those notes which I understand and I know but I still miss how to play it with the picking hand
That is hybrid picking. I might add a section to the course soon on it. Been getting lots of questions about it. Thanks for the support!
@@BrettPapa thanks! I'm always confused when to use hybrid or alternate in "rock blues" licks
Lightbulb moment !! Brett Papa, I love you (in a manly and platonic way). I've skirted and flirted with mixing major and minor pentatonics for years, but it's never been quite pretty enough and usually it's either/or, one or the other. You've given me the framework and reference points to clearly understand what's going on. Eye thank ewe !!!
Lol that is awesome David! Glad to hear the video have helped!
Sounds ridiculous!!!! 🎸❤️👍
Thanks!
❤️🔥 Bull's eye again!
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
Great lesson, one can only play so many minor pentatonic licks before you’re bored.
Thanks Scott! Haha I know the feeling!
got the course on 50% of the price , the amount of material and the quality of the content is simply amazing ,if you are into rock I would recommend it 100% (even if it was double the price) !
also, Brett is a legend as always , yeeeeahhhhhh!
Thanks so much Marco! Glad you like it and thanks for the support!
That red Tele is dope
Thanks! I love that thing!
My buddy just scored a Palor Tele that looks just like this. Lollar loaded.
Ah that is awesome!
I agree, you're a bad ass guitarist
Thanks Blake!
BRETT PAPA, it would be nice to make mixing major pentatonic and minor pentatonic for each box position because box#3 and box#4 mixing major and minor pentatonic is the trickiest
There is tons of that in the course. It is actually one of my favorite spots.
@@BrettPapa Angus Young uses his index finger and ring finger to do rolling techniques when playing pentatonic major and minor licks what the trick he does its rolling his finger put doing variations of the licks. Try to listen to a lot of ACDC live concerts also to find his rolling the finger licks to make a lesson on
Be careful Papa. You don't want to give away all your secrets! Ha! Cuz this new course is looking like you are!? Hey man, when ever I hear that rippin flat 5 it make me think of Warren DeMartini! Sooo reckless yet Ooo so tasty. Thank you for sharing this treasure with us
Haha well I'll take anything I can to sound a little more like Warren lol! One of my favorites ever!
Your tele sounds awesome of course you make it sound that way😂
Haha thanks Mike! I love that thing!
Do you teach the licks you played here in your course?
Tons just like them!
Isn't it better to play that major 3rd ascending than descending?
Can be done both ways
10:25 van halen walk down Placeholder
Yep that one is a standard!
Brett cool tele ! But my solos are going down the drain with my 64 year old arthritic hands LOL
Thanks! Just slow your roll. Fewer notes that count!
What is droning Brent
You can use an open string combine with fretted notes.
I ain’t doing shit tomorrow but this.
Haha! Have fun!
Im confused .... Minor petatonic box1 and Major pentatonic box 1 are the same shape? .... Do Am pentatonic and C pentatonic have the same box 1 shape? ... OR is Minor pentatonic box 2 the same as Major pentatonic box 1? 🤔
I just go by shapes to keep it consistent. The theoretical way would have them numbered different but I when I say shape one just imagine what minor shape one would be. So when I say shape one in major or minor it is the same shape.
@@BrettPapa Ok ... I thought thats what you meant. I think it is the easiest way too. This way the 2 scales travel together through the shapes. I was trying to search for an explanation but couldn't find a definitive answer. Thank you.
You ever practice for so long you’re brain shuts off and you can’t play anymore? That was me today spending all day learning how to do this.
Haha keep at it you will get it!
Dude.
Hopefully that's a good dude!
I can’t help but hear Billy F-ing Gibbons.
Haha! I'll take it.
Of course you know, I meant that as the utmost compliment..
I’m a huge fan of ZZ Top’s early music. Rio Grande Mud is my favorite.
And just like that, my rhythm playing just got more interesting.
Sweet!
@@BrettPapa
I think we get so stuck in our boxes that we don't think ....I wonder what this note does. Lol
Passing tones ... yea that's my name for mixing it around... 🤣😅😂🤣😁
Haha
Can you say the scale number's, so it makes more sense?
I believe that I do. I may say shape instead of scale but it means the same thing.
Angus Y. … get out of Brett’ body ! 😂
Haha I wish! Angus is the man!
Isn’t major pentatonic literally the same thing as minor ???
Same shapes but played totally different.
First time I heard this mixing of major and minor malarkey was 9 years ago by a young fellow with a stashe 🤣- ruclips.net/video/Xkt-QTZc-f0/видео.html ... and to this day it is still absolutely awesome - thank you BP(S)
Wow that is an old one! Well thanks for hangin in there for all these years!
There is nothing easy about it.
There are places where it is slowed down to get the concept. You got this! It will be easy once you practice it a bunch.
