This is the Holy Grail of guitar lessons. Thank you Brett. You're the best!!
Thanks man!
Brett papa, U is a genius!
Another fantastic vid. Keep em coming, Brett !! Un grand merci pour toutes les merveilleuses leçons ...Awesome as always ..
Thanks Olivier! Great to see you again!
Just an incredible lesson Brett. One of your best.
Thanks for the post, and the gentle walk through. Being able to move around the fingerboard “inside” the Harmony, and being able to take simple ideas and repeat them all over the fingerboard is the heart of improvisation...without reinventing the wheel.
You are welcome!
Brett, words cannot explain how bad ass that gold top is! Your tone is also right on the money, always. In my opinion its the best on you tube. Thanks for the lesson. That subject matter is really what I need help with the most. Keep it up man!
Thanks Gary! Yeah I am super happy with my sound at this point in life. Pretty much have the sound I have always been looking for it just took about 25 years to get there lol!
That gold top really shines!
Thanks! I love that thing!
No one has put it any better you are the man . Oh thank you thank you thank you I'm finally understanding the caged system ,You are the best!!!!! Please keep teaching .
Awesome to hear Keith! Thanks for checking it out!
Dude I love you. Since discovering you I’ve moved forward in my playing so much and I really appreciate that
I love you too man haha! Glad the lessons are helping! Thanks for watching!
Another, great, mindblowing lesson. My head is buzzing with ideas. Your explanations are so clear and easy to follow. Thank you so much for your free time, to help other players. Inspirational
Sure thing David!
I am currently going through your minor pentatonic, major pentatonic and CAGED Courses and i must say that they have made a huge impact on my guitar playing in the shortest time. The course content is just pure Gold, and you teach and explain things so well while keeping stuff interesting, its a gift you have. I highly recommend these courses to everyone, apart from watching the awesome free content on the channel. Can’t recommend this enough. Thanks a lot man.
Wow thanks so much Nilansh! Thanks for the support and I am so glad to hear it has helped you out!
Awesome video! Thankyou Brett.
You are welcome! Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks Brett. This is BRILLIANT as always. It may only be 5.00am in the morning in Australia, but this lesson is Gold and worth waking up to!!
Haha thanks Chris! Early morning is my favorite time to play. All the creative energy in the world hasn't been used up already lol!
Love your videos. Very helpful. Thanks man!! More power to you!!!🎸🎸🎸
Thanks Jojo! Glad you like them!
I enjoyed that lesson it helped me to refresh some of the caged system -chord tone and connecting patterns. Nice channel Brett!
Thanks Kerry!
I also love how Brett just explains everything so clear and concise plus plainly........with some appropriate animation and humor that keeps all the information (that can be overwhelming!) fresh and pertinent! I realize it may seem inappropriate here to compliment Brett's nicely devised lessons and compare to someone else but since these guys are both partners on the fretboard on Brett Papa, both Brett & Corey Congilio are my fav instructors because of all this well thought out and important theory and details such as utilizing octaves and the CAGED system all tied together in a neat lesson plan for us to digest! Jim C.
Awesome Jim! Thanks for checking us out and I am Glad to hear our lessons are helping you out!
Superb tutorial Brett. Thanks!
Thank ya! Glad you liked it!
Great Lesson and Beautiful Guitar... Thanks Brett!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Hey Papa Brett! Absolutely love that gold top! Thanks for breaking everything down so it's easy to understand. I've been playing for 39 years and I can make my way around the fretboard. I'm self-taught and learned by ear and from people showing me things. I'm glad RUclips came around, so it makes it a lot easier. I'm still learning. I've just recently started working on the CAGED system. It does make things a lot easier. Thanks again Brett!
Edit: I realized I spelled Brett's name with one t. I figured I'd fix it, out of respect.
Thanks I love that thing! And yes CAGED is a game changer. Biggest thing that ever happened to my playing.
Gold! Literally!
Lol!
Always enjoy your lessons and you get a great tone every time 👍
Thanks Gareth! Glad to hear you enjoy the lessons!

Brett, I'm glad I ran into your great guitar playing. T'm just beginning to learn. Have played Bass for years and played with many talented Guitar players. Now that I'm retired, I've decided to give it a try. Your instructions, the few that I've seen, will really help me progress. Thanks Brett.

Pure Gold Top!
Information of Value!
I Thank you.
Sure thing!
After 30 years of competently playing by ear, but technically flying blind?!
This lesson was like seeing the runway lights finally turn on!
I’ve tried to watch lessons on this before, but was either bored to sleep, or getting sensory overload. Your easy explanation, timing, and delivery has sold me amigo. I’ve never wanted to “shred” , but I’ve always wanted some more Billy Gibbons style fatback licks to put in the ‘ole cooking skillet.
Mucas Gracias Hombre
Awesome to hear Jason! Glad you are cleared for a landing haha! Thanks for watching!
Brett, your tone is excellent. Good guitar, amp, effect, combination.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Always useful video! ✌

I agree. Plus his home amp sounds just like my 30w Marshall. Great stuff.
Thanks for watching!
Superb lesson....🙂👍
Thanks Peter! Glad you liked it!
Your tone is freaking amazing in this!
Thanks Michael!
Awesome lesson thanks so much for sharing! I’d been thinking about how to combine chords, pentatonic scales and fills for a couple of weeks. Poof there you were with the answers!
Sweet! I could pick up what you were putting out haha! Thanks for tuning in!
This is awesome and just what I needed! I’m not there yet but saved this to review 5 million times until I am. Much gratitude 🌼🐝
Haha! Thanks for checking it out Jill!
It’s actually a great trick. Find Aminor at the 5th fret. Count back 3 frets to F# and that’s A major. You can do that anywhere. It takes yrs. if u don’t quit you will get it.
@@jklmopqtstuvwxyz5349 awesome thanks😁🌸
Love it! Thanks!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👌🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks for watching!

Awesome video Brett! I’ve been over these several times, but after watching your video with Jeff Hughes I thought I would check out some of your other video’s! Glad I did. Thanks!
Thanks for checking out the vids Martin! Glad to hear you enjoyed them.
@@BrettPapa Hey Brett, not a problem! I for one am totally behind what your doing! Especially after hearing the, “Jump Blues” video! Which I was glad to see! I had been trying to figure out how to keep a pick in your hand while you finger picked! I had a friend that used to hold the pick in his little and third finger and never could get that transfer back to holding the pick! The way Jedd did it placing it between the index and middle finger is much more practical! I carry a pick around all the time now and am practicing that transfer! Just to make it a smooth transition! It works! Thank you! And Jedd Hugh’s is an awesome guitarist and musician! Very cool!
Awesome lesson Brett. Im really starting to see/find the chord shapes in my melodic soloing techniques! Thank you. Love your courses and I'm finding great value in my BPGuitar membership. Also, great meeting you and your wife at the downtown Kitchen a couple weeks ago.
Thanks so much for the support man! Glad you like the lessons! Great meeting you as well see ya at a Guthrie gig soon I would imagine!
Little by little this stuff is getting pounded into my head.
I'll probably watch this one a lot.
And that lick @ 22:30 is a killer.
Excellent lesson!
Thanks Robert! Keep at it! I still work at it every day.
This MUST work... You certainly didn't play like this when I first started watching your videos. :) Great lesson. Thank You!!!
It does! Thanks for watching!
I'm pretty sure this is the best guitar channel on RUclips.

Another great lesson Brett. There seems to be some confusion about Pentatonic scales. I look at them as scales with their own step Patterns.. Cheers..
Great lesson, I like the humer to thanks buddy
Thanks Bob! Glad you liked the lesson!
been watching you for years.....you have come along way ......moving to Nashville was good to you....nice new axe and great tone....about time....lol...just kidding ...anyway keep rocking ...and sign me up for private lessons ...I live in Hartsville , about 45 minutes from you.
Having some ah ha moments here. I know my scales but your opening up the where and when and why of things. I play by ear but now learning again the where and why . locking it in. Pretty soon I'll be locked and loaded . Ha ha!! Love learning your the best by taking it slow I was able to stay focused I know a lot of what your showing but it's the little things that I'm picking up that are HUGE in connecting the dots.
Awesome to hear Gregory!
Great information.
Thanks Vernon! Thanks for tuning in!
Much respect...
Thanks!
I don't have a 🎸, now I feel like I'm planning to buy one. I know nothing about solo there you inspired me to begin. Thanks 😊
Awesome! Do it!
Thank You
You are welcome Thomas!
Great video Brett ,I’m not used to seeing you on the Gold Top , vibes well with the groovy studio and looks awesome 👍
Thanks! I love that guitar!! Thanks for the kind words!
One of the top 3 teachers on the internet……………period.
Wow thanks!
Pay attention People, thats how you do it! Great Lesson, thanks!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
P90s really get your point across. Oh, those chord tones!
LOVE P90's!!!!
Killer gold top Brett, and that was the most idiot friendly way to explain things. A great how to lesson simplified in layman's terms. 👍
Thanks Russ! Glad you liked it!
Once learning the basics of scale shapes, this is the essential guitar lesson. Wait a minute... I mean this is the ESSENTIAL guitar lesson. There, that's better. Or, as a wise man once said, it is the Holy Grail of guitar lessons. Well said, dritz.
Thanks for watching!
Your lessons combined with Stichmethod are unparalleled. Thank you for taking the time to make these fantastic lessons. Which of your amps do you find yourself gravitating to the most often?
Yeah I have heard his stuff is awesome! Got to check them out. Thats a tough one I think I play the BTR23 the most but man I do love the JRT9/15. Got two more on the way so who knows lol!
@@BrettPapa Thank you for the response! I had to ask because your tone is spectacular! lol
Bro I'm not joking your lessons are essential
Haha thanks! Glad you like them.
I got my strat out of the cupboard after many years and started playing again thanks to Brett Papa great
Yes!! That is awesome to hear George!
I love your guitar
Thanks!
Great video. Love the step by step. Expanding on this video, do you have a similar structured video taking it to the next step, expanding to a chord progression rather than just the one chord (A maj)?
Sure I have lots of videos and courses on the subject. Course wise I have a course called CAGED Unleashed that is a deep dive into this and will completely change the way you view the fretboard.
