As a guitar teacher, teaching for 40+ years, this is the best lesson structure I've ever seen for learning the guitar solo "roadmap". Hats off to you Brian, it's brilliant. Anyone watching who is interested in learning to solo and wondering where to start. DO THIS! If you follow each week's lesson as suggested it will transform your knowledge and soloing ability in only 2 months. It is a perfect framework for progressing onto other things, but even just learning this alone will enable you to solo over most music, and certainly any song staying in a single key.

This is fantastic. I have noodled around with the Pentatonic with the blue notes for a long time...like decades. I always wondered how it extended up and down the fretboard in key. I wondered if it was jumping keys or what. Now I see exactly what is going on. Pointing out the bending notes, the blue notes, extending the scale and adding the #4 position fills it all in. I have never seen the #4 so that will be a challenge as will be finding the chordal tones to accent. Wow is all I can say. Now I have weeks of practice ahead! Thank you so much for this.

I’ve been playing for 20 years and struggled with why scales work and how to solo, and what makes for a good solo. This is an amazing break down. The best I’ve seen on YT. It’s connecting the pieces nicely.

This video has come at the perfect time for me. I am stuck in a boring rut, and I will begin adding in these notes. I watch a lot of videos, yet this might well be the most informative 30 minute video for soloists trying to exit beginner sounds and move into intermediate and advanced playing. Can't thank you enough!!

I have played rythm for years and wanted to settle on solo but the solo journey has been far longer than all my practical guitar playing. I learned the pentatonic 1 and then struggled to get out from that position. I was lacking the foundation of the fretboard as described in this video. I gave up on shortcuts and went back learning all 5 positions major and minor. Even then my solos were sounding mechanical as I was lacking the extra notes. Now I know what was holding me back and the best is that I know where to add them. Same for bending. I grabbed my guitar right after this video and all sudden everything made sense. Great work. Last week I started with learning arpeggio shapes and again the concept is too blurry. I refuse to giving away another 3 years trying to figure it out. Can you please make a video like this one explaining the concept of arpeggio scales?
Finally as u mentioned the upper and lower extensions of the position 1 are basically part of the next pentatonic pattern. One more week learning them allows students to know all pentatonic patterns and a much deeper understanding of solo.

I've been playing guitar for over 40 years and learnt all this stuff decades ago. And he's right that this is the backbone of guitar. This guys total simplification of how and what to do is by far the absolute best instructional guitar video on you tube hands down. 90 percent of videos in my estimation only serve to confuse new players. Really tics me off. CHEERS TO A VIDEO WELL DONE

If I may add another week. Try to learn classic guitar solos by ear. No tabs. Just your ears and the 8 weeks guide from Brian. Improvising is fun but there is a different satisfaction and learning in getting the right notes and techniques of great guitar players.

Dude you are an amazing teacher, been watching TONS of music theory videos since i got this Ukulele from my late brother. I played guitar when i was younger but self tought (badly) and stopped playing over 10-15 yrs ago and havnt since until now.. Wasn't until i started watching your videos that i started having those "AHAH" moments. Even though there are Uku specific lessons on YT I am learning so much more from you and just relating it to the Uke... Like i just figured out the pent scales on the uke using a version of your pinky/pointer method... it doesn't work exactly but its pretty damn close. Just diff patterns.. Gonna keep watching ur vids for sure and recommend to others.

This is just fantastic! I’ve been working to learn the 5 pentatonic positions across the fretboard for weeks - I know them but keep getting lost as I move around. This is so much more intuitive - and it allows me to concentrate on playing what I feel rather than thinking so much about positioning. Thanks so much!!!!

I am a bit late to the party but this 'roadmap' has positively expanding my ability to solo. I memorised the pentatonic 5 shapes a while back but couldn't make much use of it at all. I am now on week 6 and really quite comfortable applying Brian's instructions. Can't say I'll 'solo like a pro' but certainly looking forward to linking shape 4 to traverse the fretboard and complete the course. Brilliant, thanks Brian.

Been playing almost 22 years. I'm definitely not a beginner, not an absolute pro either but I'd say I'm pretty good at faking my way through a lot of solos. Either way, in 32 minutes you explained concepts I knew, grasped to a degree, and could experiment with on my own sure... But you laid it out in such a fundamental understandable way that it just enhanced everything I kind of knew. You put pieces of a puzzle in place I've left sitting on my metaphorical table for all these years.
