Fan for years. You went to another level of rock god for me with this lesson. Plus your licks are exceptionally understandable and supremely tasty. Absolute KING!
Excellent way of explaining combining major and minor. Really under represented on RUclips instructional videos. Now shhhhh, stop giving away our secrets. 🤫😂
I had no idea you could play like this. You interview all these great players and let them do their thing but you're like right up there with them. The half step bending from major to minor totally just lit an "Aha" for me, thanks for this lesson man.
It could be me, but I gotta say Brett Papa has become the best teacher I've ever had. He gives you tools to play better and more creatively. Thanks Brett
I watch other RUclips instructors but the ones that actually advance my playing are this guys videos. Maybe that’s just me but this is making so much sense to me
Awesome content as always Brett, will be picking this course up today. Been following you for years and have some of your older courses on DVD, thanks for all you do 🤟
Good golly Pappa ! That telly sounds delish! I find that if you throw in a little bit of diminished notes in there just for flavor it adds something on top of that deliciousness
These lessons are pure Gold! or should I say Platinum! Ha! Can you imagine what it would have been like having this kind of information back in the early Daze of starting to play guitar!? Thank you for all that you do!!!
This is so great Brett. If there is any chance to soften the backing track in the mix that would be great, just to hear your great lead lines a touch more clearly. You are such a great player! Thanks!
Thank you , thank you , thank you ! This has never been presented like this to me and holy smokes this really helps. It's people like you that keep me going on THANK'S God bless you !
Brett, thank you from France ,Love your style and you teach technique, wich make everything very simple to learn.( 10 years now) You are incroyable !!!!
I used to believe you were just playing really cool scales. i now realize, it's your playing. It's your style. You have a great style of playing. There's a thumbprint on your licks which can't be taught exactly, it's your own particular mojo. you're an awesome guitar player Bret. With that said. your milking out these "Mixing Major and Minor Pentatonic" video 🙂. But each one is amazing.
I didn't realize I was mixing major.. Within minor while I was soling! Started off as a rhythm player....and wanted to do some soling, while sounding melodic instead of just playing scales! Thanks for explaining Brett!
Thanks for this Brett, it looks simple but really it's how you play that makes the difference. I keep going back to this vid and the last one to relearn stuff.
Mr Brett , that was definitely one of the most useful lessons ,Ive seen , these kind of runs are more musica I think ..I would like to play a million mph ,but Im getting older fingers don't move like they use to...so your lesson is very helpful. Thanks.
In my opinion people don’t give you enough credit for how great you sound Brett! I’m telling you have my all time favorite player traits in your playing .. Satch ! I’m buying ur course for sure !
I just purchased the course and it truly is a great course. I'm really new to this. The question I have is if you start in A minor, to play A major do you basically fall back to the 3rd fret and play the exact same scale and if i start in a different box of the A minor would i drop back on the same concept? 3 steps back. Not sure if I'm wording this right, but thanks for your time.
I think I know what you are implying. So if we are in minor box one dropping down 3 frets will take you to the same shape in major. So minor box 1 starts on the 5th fret and major shape one would start on the second. However if you are in minor Shape 1 major shape 2 would be inside of that. It's broken down in the course in greater detail but that is the basic idea.
Been subbed and have been watching you for years back when you had long hair but I have to say (maybe it’s just me) but your content recently is really engaging and so inspiring! It’s the best I’ve heard from you Papastache 😉
OK just got my Brett Papa wings there bud....signed up for the course. Excited to dive in. Have to say...thank you so much, for all the great content you create...and for being such a grand facilitator for other top musicians as well. You Rock Brett!
B PAPA, SRV would outline chords using shuffle pickings and instead of landing chord tones on the shuffle on the strong beat/down beat he would land them on the off beat/weak beat to create this western smoke train effect like a FLAT TIRE effect. The key point is landing those non-chord tones NCT or chord tones on the weak beat/off beat but making them sounds good using that flat tire shuffle effect and outlining the chord during the shuffle. He is mixing major pentatonic and minor pentatonic during the shuffle notes. Try to make a video lesson about this
Really good lesson on this stuff Brett, I think your tone is important here man, I tried to get near and failed and it does stop the flow so to speak, also looking to get the Boston sound, any tips?
I just plug into a Boss EQ with a very slight mid and gain bump straight into a Marshall 1987x with some verb and delay in post. Pretty simple setup. Pickups are Lollar Specials. That guitar is pretty freakin magical though haha so it has a fantastic tone on its own. For Boston stuff check out the Rockman gear if you can find it. That is what he uses. Nails that sound!
Awesome. Thanks heaps Brett. The fusion part blew me away!! Luv the guitar course too, thank you. I got it the other day. I always say that the person who invented the guitar has a lot to answer for as one string was plenty, 6 strings is taking us a lifetime to learn lololol!
Good god. Often when someone jams, melody get sacrificed; but not here. Every time I watch this I’m reminded of that. You don’t by chance do private lessons, do you? Off to do the dishes to some Maiden! I’ll try not to break them, but no promises.
Haha thanks! No privates at the moment only because the course creation part of my biz really doesn’t leave me with too much extra time. Thanks for checking out the vids though! Glad you like them!
I try to have a general idea as much as possible so that I can resolve the phrase I am playing. Often though I try to just think about what I am hearing in my head and how to get it out on the fretboard. After a while you just become more familiar with how it all works and then go on auto pilot.
Love your lesson. If I can suggest, give some "space" between your licks and it will make them nore stand out. Just like when you talk, you need to give some spaces (pause) for your audience to digest and opportunities for you to breath. Thanks for the lesson. Cheers from Indonesia.
Brett nobody as ever answered this question why is Pentatonic Box one called that. It contains the Em shape chord and the G major shape chord in the CAGED system.I can see calling it shape 3 or 4 but not one?
Usually it's because of the note it starts with. Minor box one starts with the root note. In the major pentatonic it is usually box two that is considered the starting point. However for simplicity sake I just call box 1 box 1 wether it is in major or minor. It is more of a shape thing for me rather than the theoretical approach.
@@BrettPapa Thanks Brett your a great teacher. What most people box one I call box three.I go according to the GIT system when I graduated from Berklee and started teaching most students found their system way to complicated. So then I found the CAGED OS system OS stands for Octave Shape.Thank you Brett I really enjoy your lessons!
Since the Maj and Min scales are right next to each other, I "talk" back and forth with them, like an argument between them. One is mad, one is trying to calm the situation.
Brett, usually I learn a lot from you. This time, I just ended up feeling confused. Maybe I'm just watching too early in the day...? (So many notes, so many patterns....)
