I'm a new artist ( a writer and poet) and I will absolutely use your advice to create my statement. I'm going to use your tips as I continue to apply for writing residencies/fellowships and contests. I think the talking part really helps out. After i talked to 1000 people about it i started to have some really good go-to phases and concepts that i would build off of.

Hello. I always recommend going to an artists website or a major gallery/museum to see some of the statements that artists will use for an exhibition or show. Those are the statements that made it past all the edits so those are the ones that are the best examples.

Was your artist statement displayed with your art at the show you summited it for?
Usually they place it in the marketing materials for group shows but it sometimes is display in the show if its a solo or if there ar multiple pieces.
