I used it 2 years ago and worked good. I just had my yard tore up to put in new drain field so i just putbthis down again. The vast majority of the reviews on this stuff are overwhelmingly that it's total garbage. It's not true hydro seed, the foam is supposed to stick the seed down and give it a medium to retain moisture so it has a chance to germinate. The fact that the "foam" is actually just dye that disappears instantly means that's not even happening. You essentially just shot regular grass seed out of a hose instead of laying it down with a spreader, there's no difference. A lot of people have a hard time with conventional overseeding because they've got compacted soil and the seed has nothing to grab onto. You'll get way better results from de-thatching, aerating, and then laying down grass seed. Water it twice a day for 2 weeks and it'll thicken up.
Used it on my lawn. It’s been 3 weeks, i see some grass but i think dethatching and aerating the soil prior to using this will give you better results.
Yes, I would suggest cutting as low as possible, aerate, top dress prior to this treatment. Also trimming the really long grass a week or two after is fine as well, just don't disturb the new growth or soil. Having light reach down to the soil of the new patches is important. Also if people are going to water the grass during high noon, keep the water on it till the sun is done peek or else the grass will burn. This would affect these results dramatically.
I used to be lawn care in my late teens, I always refused to seed for someone unless I was able to do it in my mind "The right way" If they needed patches filled, I would pretty much just try to sell a complete overseed, as most of the people wanting it had major problems "Lawn mostly weeds, whole lawn was thin ect." I wouldn't do anything other than a fall over seed, Last mow of the year at 1 1/4 inch, Dethatch, Scarify, power rake the very bare spots, I would also lay peat moss "That was my only optional thing". As you can imagine this entire process ended up being very expensive, I actually would cut deals for it since it was end of the season work, I only had a small handful of people actually let me do it, most of the time "They knew someone cheaper" by that someone that would only scalp and seed. Everyone that let me do the entire process correctly saw major improvements, most of the ones that got someone else to "do it cheaper" had little to no success "They threw away money". I think as a lawn care service, if you offer to not do it the correct way you're digging your own grave, that's why I never even offered a cheaper way.
I would water every 2 days to keep the seeds from drying up...just a suggestion. I noticed when I water my garden every 2-3 days I get better crops so that might work the same with grass seed.
So I bought 2 of these, hoping to fix the front and back lawn. First, neither box came with the grass seed, just the jar and the little bottle of liquid, so I decided to fill the bottle a third full with my own grass seed. I followed the instructions for putting the right amount of water in the jug and within about 3-5 seconds of turning on the hose, the whole thing exploded in my hands. There was a huge pop and then grass seed all over me and what didn't go on me ended up all over the side of my house. The blue thing for the top of the jug ended up cracked in 2 pieces. If I could post pics here I would but it was a scary terrible mess. I don't recommend anyone try this. What a mess!
From what I see your soil is way too dry. It’s splitting apart. Most likely and Annual rye grass that is a temp fix. Rake up the soil good lay down good seed and some starter fert and water it for 2-3 weeks. You’ll see better results
Prepare the lawn as if you were seeding by hand or spreader. HOME DEPOT Marked these down last 2021 for $1.00 each. I bought what they had (10)figure I would give to family members. Seed expires, but use your own and green stuff I have still. Grubs killed parts of lawn this year, so I ready to give this a try with fresh seed. I detached & Scarifier. Will follow with Pic & video when finished.
Did you remove the wood chips entirely and replace them with soil? Or did you simply stir dirt into the chips? I did the latter and nothing grew in the spot for years. Finally grew when i dug the chips out.
I just bought my hydro and while reading about it, I tried to turn the dial on the lid and it doesn't turn. Is that normal untill it is filled and ready to go??
it's basically grass seed and dye. We all know what it takes for grass seed to grow (like detaching and top soil) so just buy some grass seed and do it yourself
Did the spray or the paper version work better? Looks like you used the paper grass roll in another video on the same dug up area...so which one actually worked, or. which one did you apply 2nd?
I think they both will work, but in my opinion, Cyndy, the paper is better. It's a little more work, but I think the paper does 2 things... holds the seeds in place, and spreads them out more evenly. I think it's a better value for the coverage too.
I read that you’re supposed to remove the old grass and loosen about 2 inches of the topsoil before applying the Hydro Mousse. I didn’t see the guy in the video do that. Do you have to do those things or don’t you?
This is normal practice for laying any kind of seed and should be done that way. BUT if you know u got good soil and u just loosen top layer seed should take. Digging down a couple inches guarantees everything.
when and do i water after i spray the mousse ?? my grass is in dire need of help/ i put some scotts turf builder but i think i fk'd it up. imma buy some and try it. how much harm can i do.
You should have prepared the areas better, and you would have gotten much better results. Also, when mowing and grass are clumped from the mower, you should rake it so it is not clumped up. You will get a much better lawn. The clumping blocks sunlight from getting to the grass underneath, it creates additional heat, and it takes much longer to break down, or it just 'caramelizes,' as I call it, where it turns brown and never really breaks down. Just tossing some tips out I have learned over the years. Otherwise, thanks for the video!
I bought two the canister exploded on me twice because they handle water pressure. I had seed dye al in one spot because the canister aren’t completely treaded and they blow apart.
Laying the seed down is only half the battle.... the seed still has to root into the dirt and unless youre spraying dirt along with ths seed, spraying on top of compacted soil is just going to feed the birds.
I’ve done lawn care for 6 years this does absolutely nothing better than aerating and seeding the lawn. Trust me, that little bit of fertilizer does absolutely nothing. Make sure lawn isn’t super dried out, if you’re using fescue seed when it’s about 65 degrees out.
