The best part about the SD card nav is you know it will work even if you do not have cell phone signal and one time fee. The not so good is that even the new ones will always be outdated of about 6-9 months and won't update.
Tim, we own Mazda CX-5 and we just plus our 📱 into the ysb port and syncing it with the car (of course after Ll the pairing has been done), then we just use Android Auto function to use Google Maps while it is disabled on the screen for our convenience. We are already paying for a wireless service, why would or should we pay for another. Additionally, the Mazda vehicles allow for certain automotive GPS systems like Tom Tom and Garmin to be used with the Mazda vehicles in the same way. You have to check the manufacturer's manual for more info it is another way of getting out of having to pay for an expensive cellphone service. It may be redundant in the vehicle but nevertheless it's available and you only have to pay one time for GPS unit that anyone can purchase from most electronic retailers
Just use an app from your phone also that’s free like Waze. And even with the SD cards there will be times you have to pay maybe to upgrade. New streets and information always comes up.
Go back to your dealership, and ask them for the SD card. See what happens. They won't give you one. I just leased a new Mazda, saw the same prompt, asked for the SD, and they said they don't do that anymore, it's Car Play or AA only.
ICE vehicle NAV limitations - true when you don't have options like level 2 hands free or BEV charging. I feel this soon will not be an accessory option much longer.

Keep it old school! Why do I need a built in Nav??? Half the purpose of android auto or Carplay is to use the Nav from the phone
