Tip for Wavies, from my Deva Cut stylist: after washing & conditioning, apply gel to soaking wet hair, blot out water with a microfiber towel, then apply Wavemaker to damp hair. (I hope this helps others as it did me).
Lynn M - Thank you for sharing this tip for Wavies. I am trying Wave Maker for the first time. For conditioner do you use the Delight? I’ve been using Decadence but it may be too heavy causing my hair to frizz.
Sherri I don’t use Deva Curl shampoos or conditioner. My stylist used Delight shampoo on me and the One Conditioner. My favorite shampoo and conditioner is Raw Curls Wavy Swavy. Available online
Erika Araiza I do find that I use less of my DevaCurl products than I do some of my less expensive products! A little goes a long way. They are so pricey though 😩
I kind of want to see her use all of her DevaCurl hair products at once just to see how her hair turns out, I think it'd be a pretty interesting experiment lol
Its so unfair that curly hair chicks haveto spend way more money on products than ones with straight hair. Its not our fault we havr so much frizz and tangles.
Dana Marie I went on insta afterward and there was a girl that popped up with long gorgeous curly hair. I think it’s a sign to just like never straighten🤦🏻♀️ hahaha
I agree 100% about Supercream! My hair is a lot like yours and it is my absolute hands down HOLY GRAIL hair product! I mess around with lots of different products and in the end I always come back to Supercream for perfect, shiny, moisturized 2c, 3a curls. I’ve been mixing it with the mop top curling custard lately like you suggested and I really like it. Great combo! Thanks so much for your channel Dana. I love watching you and following your advice.
Probably the most helpful deva curl guide I ve come across in a while ! I am travelling to the big apple in a month now I know what products I need to get from there . Thank you soo much ❤️
Don't know what I would do without my DevaCurl products. They are the best! I now cut my own hair (learned on RUclips how to do that) and save money - and spend it all on the DevaCurl products. Thank you so much for this wonderful overview of all the products.
The ultra defining gel is my absolute favorite product. Who else finds that their hair looks better without breaking the cast? When I scrunch the cast put my hair gets stringy sometimes!
Dana Marie yes I know what you mean, more volume = scrunch out the crunch . I just now went to Whole Foods and bought the mop top curl custard finally! I’ve been wanting to buy it for a long time and they where selling it for 11$ on sale!
I have short, (between chin and shoulder length) 2b/2c/3a transitioning hair and I use the wavemaker and volumizing foam because I find anything heavier weighs my waves down. I just started using wavemaker and I DO notice my hair feels kinda dry - but I think it just depends on the look you're going for. I dont mind my hair feeling a little dry/frizzy because I like that messy, beachy, volumized, fluffy hair. I just make sure I deep condition the crap out of it. If you want very shiny and defined waves or curls, then wavemaker probably wont be for you.
I love how informative this video is and how you break down and explain each product you. I've been curious about what the other products are and for which is beat for wavy hair like mine. So thank you and I appreciate the time you put into making this video.
Thank you for the information. Just starting with this line and hoping I can get my damaged hair back in shape. Btw....best eyebrows ever! I’m an 80’s girl and used to rock those as well!
the b’leave in with the arc angel gel has changed my hair so much!! even though the arc angel is supposed to be the maximum hold, the other gels weighed down my hair. Thanks for sharing this was really helpful because i feel like i have to buy all of their products but i didn’t know which ones were really worth it
This is like a year later, wtf, you probably won’t even see this What kind of of hair do you have?Because I’m scared that the arc angel will be too much for me, but I don’t know.I want to try it
Great video!!! Thanks for taking the time to run down all the products. I use the Deva spray gel as my regular scrunch gel if/when I run out of my Arc Angell. It works for me just as well, but is runnier, because it's meant to be sprayed.
Do all of your research on using devacurls products . After a prolonged use many ladys have had bad issues with this product . Most worse issue was lots of hair loss. Their hair ended up extremely damaged. It does work well at first . These women loved the product and ended up with damaged hair. So please be sure to do the research .
Thank you so much for your in-depth explanation! I was confused on some of the products that I bought (I got such great results with the first two that I bought that I went a little crazy with purchasing!) and you let me know which to use for the results that I need. Thanks!
I have wavy to curly hair, and I had the same issue with Wavemaker. My hair is a little tangly but holy cow this product made my hair SUPER dry and so tangly. I’m trying the styling cream now and I like it so far, I have fine hair and I find that it’s not too heavy. I apply the styling cream and then use the ultra defining gel and my curls love it. Hope this helps
JUST bought a package of low-poo, one conditioner delight, wave maker, and the buildup breaker PLUS some ultra defining gel... I'm considering getting the 'set it free' next for extra moisture/shine... I used to have ringlets before regular shampoo fucked up my hair and now it turns into a frizzy mess if I don't brush it into a halfassed puffy wavy look lol. wish me luck!
I've struggled with my curly/wavy hair my whole life, i've tried sooo many products that unfortunatley did not work. So thank you for making this I'm gonna purchase a few itmes and hopefully it works! I'll definelty make a review and post it on my channel if anyones interested. :)
I love how you review everything, and even though the video is long, it is entertaining and informative. A question, though: if you wear the gels/any other styling product to bed, will my curls be ok the next morning?
well this also how you put your hair while you sleep. I personally like to pineapple it and use a silk pillow case, and I wake up with almost the same curls as I did when I went to sleep!
It’s interesting to me that the detangling spray works for other people lol it seemed to do absolutely nothing for me at all! I returned it super fast. The wash day wonder is AMAZING though for detangling. I also love the styling cream and super cream
I'm not sure at all, but I think the Arc Angel is wheat free. Don't quote me though! But the channel real life+curly girl made a super thorough video on some DevaCurl products, and she explained how the Arc Angel didn't contain as much protein as the Light or Ultra Defining Gel. You should check her out! I think the video is called something with DevaCurl Review and Ingredients!
I bet the beautiful mess one would be GREAT used by putting some in your palm/fingers (depending on thickness/density of hair) , little bits at a times, and clapping over the hair (kinda high up) and letting it fall naturally then kinda crunching, but more so between fingers, a little more gently and sections at a time, but quickly going around the hair so as it wint dry to quickly, keaving products. Clapping overtop will make it fall aoarr into tiny strings (you might have to exoeriment a few times to get it right! How hard and fast you go will change how it breaks up!) But it will break it up all over ans give your hair just whag you need. Best for a last or second to last hold product!
I tried the B’leave-in on wet hair but i moticed it left a white residue once my hair was dry and i had a huge knot/tangle on the underlayer of my hair :/ I probably used the product all wrong. So this video is very helpful
I haven't had any luck with DevaCurl, I find that it really weighs my hair down. I have really fine, easily disturbed curls and really do need to actually shampoo, so I wonder if it's just too heavy for me....
I've found that rinsing my scalp with ACV helps a tonne when using sulphate free shampoos! I also have really fine, easily weighed down hair. What works for me at the moment is shampooing with Bounce Curl's medium moisture shampoo, washing it off, rinsing with ACV, washing it off, then conditioning (I also use Bounce Curl's conditioner). Follow with your stylers!
it happens! different products work for different people. I second Elisa's recommendation of bounce curl shampoo/conditioner. They're really great too!
Hai Dana! Compliments for you and youtube channel! I am so glad that I discovered you on RUclips!! You are not only honest but you give a perfect explanation of products and for what kind of hair it can be used. This is so important because a lot of curly girls buy what is populair but that doesn't mean it works for anybody..Thanks for that:) Live in: Netherlands Origin: Morocco Current hair: Healthy curly hair(3b&3C) Challenges: dry frizzy roots and hair dries way to long..
I had the Wavemaker and I hated it, I couldn't make it work for me at all... it left my hair super frizzy and I feel like it stretched out my waves/curls... I know some people use this over partially dried hair and I have heard that works better, but I find other products work better for my 2C/3A hair... I know they recommend the Light Defining Gel for wavy girls, but I need more hold, Arc Angel is my HG... if your hair is protein sensitive then Arc Angel is a good option because their other gel's are loaded with protein and the Arc Angel isn't.
Hey Dana, I have super thick and curly hair and am a huge fan of deva curl so I loved this video! However, I shed lots and lots of hair, do you also experience excessive shedding? If so, what do you do if anything to help with the shedding?
I think it could be that you are protein sensitive!!! Devacurl gels except for arc angel have protein. Check your porosity by putting a strand of hair in a glass of water. Wait 6 minutes for it. If the strand is floating, it's low porosity. If it's in the surface, it's normal porosity. If it sinks, it's high porosity. Make sure that your hair is clean. Also it could be the way you styled it. If ur hair is soaking wet, it might help. But if it's porosity we are talking about, you might have to switch to arc angel.
Incredible video! I have a tiny question. What products do you recommend for the days where one takes showers with only water. I know that it’s recommended to shampoo and condition your hair 3 to 2 times a week but what if I have to rinse my hair with water in between these days and my curls lose shape?
I love your channel I remember having curly hair when I was smaller but as I grew up my hair naturally turned wavy and then straight then frixxy and I really miss my old hair I think it’s coming back bc when I wake up I usually take a shower at night I wake up and some parts are curly and I miss my curly hair so much
I think I’m going to return my mister right that I just bought ... I have 2C hair that I think is going to turn into 3A ... what product do you think I should use with my store credit ? Super cream ?
Thanks girl for your honest review! I have 2c/3a asian hair and its frizzy and thick. I’ve tried the original line but it doesn’t do much for me and my hair was still poofy and frizzy so i’m planning on trying the decadence conditioner, did you try this or anyone out of here??
I used the no poo but it didnt weigh my hair down even my hair is thick and voluminous from itself already lol. I really hate how my hair feels right now so i was thinking giving the decadence a try since my hair is not weighed down easily and a little bit on the dry side. Since you tried both, what is the difference between decadence & orginal conditioner?
I just used wash day wonder for the first time and something I noticed was my curl strands were a lot more separated instead of clumping into its usual curl form (which I prefer). I’m not sure if this is just a random incident or related to the wash day wonder. I’ll try it out again but did you or anyone else have this problem?
My Favorite curly hair product is also supercream! I’ve tried to find cheaper alternatives but nothing has matched it. My deva stylist says it’s too heavy for my hair. Do you use supercream in the summer?
Do you do your cream and gel in separate steps? Is it ok to mix them? I have been mixing the wave maker and supercream with a little of the light gel, but maybe I should use them separately?
Yes I do them in separate steps, but if you're getting nice results you might not need to. You could try mixing supercream/wavemaker first and then applying gel after :)
what is most product who can make my hair so hydrated cause my hair is curly/wavy hair like yours but it's not so hydrated like yours , so what is the leave in cream(or styling cream) and gel that i have to use to have defining curls/waves so hydrated, OGX or devacurl are more hydrated or there's Something else??
ogx to me isn't hydrating, plus it does contain silicones (in case you are trying to avoid them) for hydration, supercream is my favorite. Also, the new amika curl corps line is very good
and after the supercream i had to put a gel or mousse(foam) and which brand (devacurl or another )for fixing the curls but with a hydrate, flexibile and natural feeling ? and for the amika product will you post it with details and the difference between the two products (devacurl and amika) cause amika seems to be a new product and I didn't used any of those brands before.
Please, please, please don't buy and/or use deva curl products now. Alot of you might say that you aren't experiencing anything negative, but in the long run, the products have caused hair loss and many many other things. Chack out ayesha malik's video on the matter if you want details. She use to be a deva curl ambassador
Tip for Wavies, from my Deva Cut stylist: after washing & conditioning, apply gel to soaking wet hair, blot out water with a microfiber towel, then apply Wavemaker to damp hair. (I hope this helps others as it did me).
thanks for sharing!
Lynn M - Thank you, I am still experimenting! 😊
Hi! Thanks for the help but I'm quite new at this.. do you use this tip every time you wash your hair?
LOVE this ! So helpful 😻
thanks beauty!! 😘
I wish devacurl wasn’t so expensivvveeeee
Me too...
Right!? So expensive and such tiny bottles, no thanks!!
Erika Araiza I do find that I use less of my DevaCurl products than I do some of my less expensive products! A little goes a long way. They are so pricey though 😩
Ughhh sameee :(
I know! It's so good though 😭
I kind of want to see her use all of her DevaCurl hair products at once just to see how her hair turns out, I think it'd be a pretty interesting experiment lol
hahah omg my hair would probably be so weighed down it would look straight 😂
I love how thorough you are with your reviews
Basic Stuff LOVE YOU BOO
Love you too
thank you!!
Its so unfair that curly hair chicks haveto spend way more money on products than ones with straight hair. Its not our fault we havr so much frizz and tangles.
I just bought a bunch of travel size products to try since I had no idea where to start. THIS was very helpful! Thank you :)
thats a great idea! xx
Please do a video on this makeup look! its beautiful!
Thank you!!
Watching this while my hair is straight for the first time in a whiiiile. And I’m considering washing my hair just so I get mah curls back hahaha
hahaha this happened to me last time I straightened my hair 😅
Dana Marie I went on insta afterward and there was a girl that popped up with long gorgeous curly hair. I think it’s a sign to just like never straighten🤦🏻♀️ hahaha

They're definitely two different looks, which is cool! I like a more feathery/soft - almost frizzy look so I love how it looks when I break the cast 😬
Dana Marie yes I know what you mean, more volume = scrunch out the crunch . I just now went to Whole Foods and bought the mop top curl custard finally! I’ve been wanting to buy it for a long time and they where selling it for 11$ on sale!

Seriously SO HELPFUL!! just getting started with my diva curl routine and already loving my curls!!
I love Devacurl XO my holy grail. Never had an issue. I will continue to use my products.
Very educational for any hair type. I needed this. I have fine Hair 3b.3c curly texture! Lot's of products weight my hair down.
I'm overwhelmed
She making me want to buy all the products
Thank you for the information. Just starting with this line and hoping I can get my damaged hair back in shape. Btw....best eyebrows ever! I’m an 80’s girl and used to rock those as well!
Can you do a review on miss Jessie’s hair products ?

yay!! I'm glad I could help 💛
Recently I’ve been looking for a hairspray so this was great timing! 🎉 Now I’ve just got to find it in the UK 🇬🇧
JUST bought a package of low-poo, one conditioner delight, wave maker, and the buildup breaker PLUS some ultra defining gel... I'm considering getting the 'set it free' next for extra moisture/shine... Such a thorough review. Thank youuuuu!!
Dana could you tell us what makeup and colours you were wearing in this video? You makeup here is gorgeous!!
I love your make up style in this video (and in general also)
It’s interesting to me that the detangling spray works for other people lol it seemed to do absolutely nothing for me at all! I returned it super fast. The wash day wonder is AMAZING though for detangling. I also love the styling cream and super cream
I just love it! You may do a vídeo like This one with all the deva products! (Sorry about my english, i’m brazilian!!)
This is so helpful, thanks 🙏
Would you suggest using the wave maker and the light defining gel. Or is it supposed to be one or the other? Thanks so much ❤
Thank you! Helped me for choose which i couldn't do for almost 2 month) Make your own bundle with Devacurl ) Waiting for it ;) XOxo
This was really useful! Have you tried the cantu curl activator creme? If so, how would you say it compares to the devacurl supercream?
This is such a helpful video!
Thank you!
I wish Deva Curl would substitute wheat in their stylers. There are literally no stylers from this company that I can use without a reaction. Sigh.
Lisa not your mother’s is basically the same and uses rice! Wheat free and waayyy cheaper
But it will break it up all over ans give your hair just whag you need. Best for a last or second to last hold product!
Thanks! Helpful summary!
Becky Baker I do too. Are you making a cast? I love the way the cast looks but it weighs my hair down and dries it out.
Yep! I made a cast, but the end result was more wavy than curly, because my hair was so weighed down :(
I haven't tried ACV before, I might have to! Thanks for the tip :)
it happens! different products work for different people. I second Elisa's recommendation of bounce curl shampoo/conditioner. They're really great too!
Hai Dana! Compliments for you and youtube channel! I am so glad that I discovered you on RUclips!! I've been using the b'leave in gel & it makes my hair curlier but a lot frizzier. Anyone know why that might be?
Thank you for this video!! Love the products but they’re so expensive
You're welcome!! I know! It definitely adds up quickly lol
This was so helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome!! ☺️
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts about low poo delight cleanser- what you like and don't like about it
Super helpful thanks so much!
Your eye shadow is amazing! What kind and colors do you use?
I had the Wavemaker and I hated it, I couldn't make it work for me at all... it left my hair super frizzy and I feel like it stretched out my waves/curls... sacredsiren Same texture, same Wavemaker experience. Not protein sensitive, so either way ArcAngel is a great gel!
I had the same experience. It seemed dry, stringy, and less curl definition. I’m 2c/3a as well
These beauty products look amazing.
they really are great!
If you live in Florida none of this would work if you’re trying to get rid of the frizz
Layla Bertoune nothing works for florida weather (im from miami) lol
Great review, good job.
thank you!
Hey Dana, I have super thick and curly hair and am a huge fan of deva curl so I loved this video! However, I shed lots and lots of hair, do you also experience excessive shedding? If so, what do you do if anything to help with the shedding?
Great video!, really helpful 😊
thank you, I'm glad I could help! 😊
Can you explain like the order you would use gel and supercream? like what is the order after you get out of the shower?
Supercream first
You need to get us a discount code!!!!! That would be awesome ! Great video 😊
Hi, can you please do a video on what kind of hair cut is best for ppl with a similar curl type as you. Thank you💗
Heres a video about my haircut and what I asked for! ruclips.net/video/bpb-5mb_5nQ/видео.html
Aww thank you! I missed this🙏🏾
You're really beautiful, and you have gorgeous hair!
The devacurl gels leave my hair super dry and it just looks horrible. The products are so expensive. What am I doing wrong?
I think it could be that you are protein sensitive!!! Devacurl gels except for arc angel have protein. Check your porosity by putting a strand of hair in a glass of water. Wait 6 minutes for it. If the strand is floating, it's low porosity. If it's in the surface, it's normal porosity. If it sinks, it's high porosity. Make sure that your hair is clean. Also it could be the way you styled it. If ur hair is soaking wet, it might help. But if it's porosity we are talking about, you might have to switch to arc angel.
uhh i love your brows
Incredible video! I have a tiny question. What products do you recommend for the days where one takes showers with only water. I know that it’s recommended to shampoo and condition your hair 3 to 2 times a week but what if I have to rinse my hair with water in between these days and my curls lose shape?
Noof g I just had a little bit of gel by scrunching upside down and it works. You can also put your hair in a bun to not get it wet when you shower
I second the gel recommendation! Since your not fully cleansing adding more cream might be too heavy :)
thank you for this!! is there an ingredient in the wave make the hair dry?
Thank you!
Dankeschön 💞
This video is sooooooooo useful
Love super cream
Excellent!!
I love your channel I remember having curly hair when I was smaller but as I grew up my hair naturally turned wavy and then straight then frixxy and I really miss my old hair I think it’s coming back bc when I wake up I usually take a shower at night I wake up and some parts are curly and I miss my curly hair so much
i love your videos can you make a video how you wash your hair lysm like those hair wash update
thank you!!
yeah and omg i cant believe you replied :)
What would be good to use on thick course hair
I think I’m going to return my mister right that I just bought ... I have 2C hair that I think is going to turn into 3A ... what product do you think I should use with my store credit ? Super cream ?
janebeth92 I have the same curl type, Maybe ultra defining gel or wavemaker! One condition original is great
Soooo which one is ur fave gel?
Helpful ❤️
Thanks girl for your honest review! I have 2c/3a asian hair and its frizzy and thick. I’ve tried the original line but it doesn’t do much for me and my hair was still poofy and frizzy so i’m planning on trying the decadence conditioner, did you try this or anyone out of here??
I have the decadence conditioner as well! are you using the low poo or no poo?
I used the no poo but it didnt weigh my hair down even my hair is thick and voluminous from itself already lol. I really hate how my hair feels right now so i was thinking giving the decadence a try since my hair is not weighed down easily and a little bit on the dry side. Since you tried both, what is the difference between decadence & orginal conditioner?
What kind of hair tie do you recommend?
I just used wash day wonder for the first time and something I noticed was my curl strands were a lot more separated instead of clumping into its usual curl form (which I prefer). I’m not sure if this is just a random incident or related to the wash day wonder. I’ll try it out again but did you or anyone else have this problem?
hmmm I don't remember that happening when I use it, but I'll report back next time I do!
My Favorite curly hair product is also supercream! I’ve tried to find cheaper alternatives but nothing has matched it. My deva stylist says it’s too heavy for my hair. Do you use supercream in the summer?
I know, the closest thing I've found is the new amika curl cream but its like the same price anyway 😅and yes I use it year round!
Can you please review the DevaCurl Wash Day Wonder?
sure!
Where do you find Deva product
Do you do your cream and gel in separate steps? Is it ok to mix them? I have been mixing the wave maker and supercream with a little of the light gel, but maybe I should use them separately?
You can definitely mix them all together but you might get better results if you use your creams first, scrunch a little, then add gel.
Yes I do them in separate steps, but if you're getting nice results you might not need to. You could try mixing supercream/wavemaker first and then applying gel after :)
what is most product who can make my hair so hydrated cause my hair is curly/wavy hair like yours but it's not so hydrated like yours ,
so what is the leave in cream(or styling cream) and gel that i have to use to have defining curls/waves so hydrated,
OGX or devacurl are more hydrated or there's Something else??
ogx to me isn't hydrating, plus it does contain silicones (in case you are trying to avoid them) for hydration, supercream is my favorite.
I tried one of their styling gels and it dried my hair out like hay. I was so disappointed :(
Tabatha Click the same happened to me
Me too
if im not getting a gel cast does that mean im just not using enough gel??
Yes
