Just wanted to say THANK YOU very, very much for be willing to share your knowledge. I realize it must take quite a bit of time and effort to do so and I sincerely appreciate it for a few reasons. Not only do you provide me with some education in an extremely well done format that is very fun to watch, but you also have given me a great amount of inspiration. I am a 61 year old guy that just completed radiation treatment for throat cancer. throughout this ordeal I have been watching RUclips videos to keep my mind off the negative crap. (Yours are by far the best!) They are a great diversion and also gives me the inspiration to look forward to getting my butt back to life. And when I can afford it, I'm going to do just that. While I am up and out doing that, I will again be thanking you. Please keep up the great job/service.
Keep your eye on the end goal and you will get there! 40 years ago I was run over by a car. They said I would never walk again. It took me 5 years in a wheel chair, but I had made up my mine that I'm going to walk. It still hurts a bit, but I'm still hiking in my beloved high Sierra's.
@@TwoToes~Gary, you and Jeff inspire me to try.. that was before hearing the above story....' I figure that if you two can do it... my old decrepit, half paralized arse can too... thanks for sharing. Hi, I CANT BELEAVE I FOUND SOMEONE BY READING COMMENT, THAT WENT THROUGH WHAT YOU DID AND NOW WE ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME EXACT THING, THROAT CANCER I SEE IT WASC3 YRS AGO, I HOPE YOU ARE WELL, AND BEAT IT, JUST A FRIENDLY PERSON ON THE NET✌
Back when I lived in the Placerville area, I got into prospecting with a detector. My partner and I would get the topo maps from the USGS and find all the old gold mines from the gold rush days. 99.999% of the time, the old timers were following a gold bearing seam of quartz. When the seam ended, they'd move on and go dig another tunnel somewhere else. Getting in there with a detector, hitting the walls and ceiling and floor of the old mines, really paid off in a good way. A lot of times where they stopped, the seam would start back up again in a few inches or so. Two guys working on sledgehammers though could get back into that quartz. Milky white quartz, and a beautiful streak of color through it was one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen. Even better looking than my ex wife! And she was a hottie! Everyone thought so ;) Bob in Germany
This is where a vacuum would really come in handy. Remember, just because the metal detector doesn't detect anything doses't mean that there isn't a bunch of small gold in there. The vacuum can pull out stuff that's hard to get out with the other tools. This was a fantastic video showing the potential of both using a good metal detector and working the crevices. Really good teaching video. Thanks for sharing.
this technique really helps understanding where and how to find gold.. most people hit "inside bends", follow traditional rules for it, but doing it this way, it teaches you the "high pressure" zones also.. it absolutely blew my mind figuring this out.. where I believe (if in a narrow valley) the gold gets pressure packed into the crevices on spots you'd never think following traditional rules.. cheers mate.. wish I could send you my finds.. infact I can confidently say.. if a person who has NO experience finding gold and watches your channel... gaurenteed if they soak in the info... THEY WILL FIND GOLD! No matter what country.. ! cheers mate !
Hey Two Toes! Wanted to thank you for the timely method of searching for nuggets with a detector. My dad an I have saved HOURS doing this method instead of panning. We haven’t found any gold yet, but have found some old (probably not worth anything) items that got us just as excited. Keep up the awesome videos, and get yourself an Instagram!!!
Great Video, Now I am a beginner, and I bought 200 dollar metal detector, found my share of Lincoln’s and Roosevelt dimes, now I went to the first river. There was a sign that says no Dredging, shoes off with my bucket, and took a soil sample, it’s hasn’t been panned yet, but I am going back this time with the detector. I am trying to learn everything.
Hey Gary, Well your recommendation to dig every target has rewarded a buddy of mine down here in So Cal. It took me a couple months to get him start watching your channel, but he finally did. And he started going by the advice you give..dig every target..well he dug up a hot rock that was reading iron on his detector. It was about a foot under the sand in one of our favorite little creeks..a thirteen pound meteorite! It's off to be analyzed by a reputable scientist. I'll try to get him to send you some pics when he gets it back. Thanks for all you do to inspire us man!
My son and I have just been starting to have fun with metal detectors and panning. We found some pretty good rocks that need to be crushed. He opened a fortune cookie that said he was going to find a "pile of gold next week..." Nice omen!!! Thanks for a really educational video. We look forward to learning more from you, as we go along.
I think I've gone through and watched every video on prospecting you have! The knowledge you have accrued and distilled into these videos is invaluable! Keep it up mate - this is the most underrated prospecting channel on RUclips - Fan from Aussie.
Howdy again from Montana Gary!! I still like revisiting your older productions. Always great information. Not sure if you’ll ever see comments on an old video yet I know every like and comment helps. Keep getting out here seeking the adventures, videos or not.
I just read in the comments below talking about using headphones while detecting and how it can make you ignore some of the dangers of the wildlife. Here in Arizona I've run across a lot of rattlesnakes, the best investment I've ever made in my life was $150 for a pair of full snake boots. Everyone have fun but keep aware of your surroundings out there.
Thanks for taking the time to explain in ways that even newbies will understand. It certainly makes people want to get out there and explore for the gold. Have safe travels, but watch out for snakes and spiders in the cracks and rocks.
Perhaps the most instructive practical video I have viewed! Thanks so much! I wish I could meet you in person; you are a great guy! Congrats on your great finds of this hunt! Bless you and even more gold luck in your hunting!
Ive watched this video awhile back and I must say, the excitement is still there. That was a killer day! Im not sure how you keep your cool when you find a nugget.. I freak out! Then fall. Haha
hahahaha freak out and then fall!! OMG I thought I was the only one that did that !! I have scars on my legs I've carried for decades now from skinning my shins on the granite of the HighSierras in Northern California. You know as I think about it, I fall over a lot.... Bob in Germany
I would also do a gold dance finding those nuggets. A fall down dance is called a Kukufa. Pauly might drop his phone once in a while, but keeps a firm grip on his gold.
Finding gold, and seeing others find gold never gets old. I still get out sometimes with my 20 year old White's Gold Master 4B, which is still in very good shape after all these years. I've got a few new areas I'm fixing to get out and prospect. Your videos have rekindled my gold fever! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, techniques and finds. Cheers from Washington!
This is the second time watching this video.lots of great pointers and tips to take to the hills.I must say I had not gave White's detectors much notice using a gpx series Minelab but whites was recently advertising a TDI SL special edition for Prospectors . That's a pulse induction unit for around $1,000 I just got mine took it out yesterday let me say I am impressed ! Very simple to operate very sensitive I picked up some small targets pretty deep in hot ground I love it! And it's such a refreshing change having an external speaker and not a bunch of wires coming out of everywhere 😂 I am now giving White's detectors a lot of attention and High Praise they are a lot of bang for the buck..😍
This is an excellent instructional video! You cover many important details to make nugget shooting as successful as possible. I really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the expert teaching. Thank You, Sir!
I want to thank you for sharing your experience and expertise. I procpected with my grandfather when I was a kid. I'm 70, but in good shape. Want to do this bad. Didn't pay attention as a kid,but I'll tell you, your great! You didn't have to do this, but so glad you did. Again, thanks
nice video, one day it'll be my turn to find my first gold nugget, it'll be a lot nicer than buying one from the jewelry store. it's a lot like hunting for Wild game, you catch it you thank God for it, you butcher it and you take it home, it always make you feel like you deserve it because you worked for it. the blessed raw gifts that you get from nature no one can take away!!!
I'm sure you already know this but you are an excellent teacher, a real natural. I just started getting into this and have been watching everyone's videos and yours are the best. Thanks!
Like most of the rest of the commenters said, "I learned a lot" this evening from your video. Thanks for sharing it with us. If I had your email address I could tell you about where my Grandpa's old location was. He used to pull a bit of gold out of the creek monthly and the homestead. He homesteaded it in 1941 outside of Murphys in Caliveras county. Whenever he ran low on cash he would go spend a day in the creek bed. Then the next day he would drive to town and come back with whatever was needed. I spent the summer with him when I was a kid in 1961. Thanks again for the video. Yours are the best videos I've found on gold prospecting.
Thank you for the offer but Calaveras county is more than 3 hours to the south. If I live to be 100 I don't think I could cover the areas around where I live. Some of my best memories are going to the hills with my Grandfather, he would use any excuse he could think of to go camping. I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for the support.
Nw Oregon here. Hey TwoToes, where are yall at? N.Cali? The gold bug is all I use. I find myself watching alot of you and "Motherloads" videos. Good information added everytime I watch. A Veterans Insight, Is Worth Its Weight in Gold.
You have a lot of knowledge and a nice style of presentation. Good vid!! I have a mid-range Fisher and have prowled around California and Italy - lots of bronze, copper, & silver artifacts there.
Mr two toes, THANK YOU. I love outdoors and all activities that go with it with a passion and gold panning is one of them but I just know the very basics. I still have a lot to learn but this here is, if not the most, at least one of most entertaining and most informative videos that I have watched since RUclips was invented. And yes, I’m that old. I’m subscribed to many channels in different topics but for some reason I never click the notifications button this is gonna be the ONLY exemption. I sincerely THANK YOU and keep the videos coming. I’m gonna subscribe, like, share the video and click the notifications button right away.
Passing time Gary. Luv these adventures and knowledge you share with us. Stay golden & Happy Holidays brother. Fish 🎣 n gear coming soon. 🎄🏔️👊🇺🇸😆⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
Very nice video. You are a good teacher. I learned a lot. I live in Massachusetts where there is not even any placer gold, so it was interesting to see something that is not done in this state.
One of my favorite tools is a silicon camping food bowl. I use it like the pan to brush dirt in to. The nice thing is I can shove it into a crevice to get all the dirt I can.
One hell of a day out in the battleground, nice Pan of gold in the end, what else can you ask for, but a repeat on your next hunt, may the gold Gods keep on shining that beautifull metal upon you. Subed. Gl and hh.
This is the first time ive ever seen your channel. I've just subscribed. It was amazing to watch. I love it when folks get to live the dream like you are. I live in the South West of the UK. I'd love to try and find gold here. I doubt there is any.....
It's great to see such amazing finds. Watching these poor guys getting happy finding flour gold then you tossing back what they would consider pickers is jarring. I guess it's relative.. Great channel! Very informative! 😉
Thanks for lesson. Last time I used a metal detector , was hunting civil war bullets in AL. Found tin, square nails and bridle iron piece. Cheers from Ontario, Canada.
I could watch you clean out crevices all day long. You're so dreamy. Bahahaha! It is so satisfying. I watch others but so often they don't actually show the scratching. That is the part I like the most.
Thanks again Two Toes, for sharing your vast knowledge with the rest of us, hoping to find gold nuggets ! I look forward to trying what you teach within your great metal detecting video !! Thanks again !!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of information how to find gold it is good to learn from the best by research and look for so many different things and ideas you are the top of the list number one in my books thank you
Gary, I must agree with you that this was also my all time favorite video ! I have the same detector and coil as you use in your video and with you showing your hands-on experience, gives me hope that I can someday find nuggets as well !!! Thanks again for sharing your vast knowledge !!!! ( Keep on doing the GOLD metal detecting videos .... )
Wow! When you pulled out that first nugget, I couldn't believe my eyes! Man your videos are so cool. I really appreciate what you do! Thanks for the education and the vicarious experience.
Loved your video. You're right about any day being a good day if you can be out in air panning for gold. I love those days and am like a little kid, "but why do I have to go inside? I'm not done playing!", Lol.
Pretty useful video! Keep it up man! You rock! I really enjoy gold prospecting (Panning, sluicing, crevicing) no matter how much gold I find. Just got myself a metal detector.
Hey i love your video you have inspired me to look for my own treasures! I have yet to find anything as the weather is terrible but i will keep you posted
That was one very exciting gold hunt. I've seen this or others by you before and must say I knew immediately I was watching a master. Thanks for the treat.
How does one locate areas to go look around for gold. Or even get started. I have recently retired and would like to give it a try. I have always been interested in the woods and the adventures
Would you use this same process in a long since dry creek bed area that comes down from the summit of the range? The high water mark is 20 ft above the creek bed. We are digging a bench about the same distance above the creek bed. I found a shear zone i want check out with my detector. I found some boulders resting on topsoil high above the creek bed as well.
Nice lucky nuggets.... I didn't see you using a pin pointer to narrow down your target. Seems like that saves a lot of time.. Looking forward to detecting 1 day soon
Excellent work. I was very happy to see that gold target at 16:00 I didn't think a TDI would see one that small. I know my factory 14" coil wouldn't have seen it. I'm gonna have to look into that Jimmy Sierra Coil you have there. I'm guessing your machine is set to all or both high and low conductive. I always get frustrated digging trash and wind up panning instead. Thanks for the video and lessons.
When looking for gold you have to it set on all - both high and low. Working on the river I don't mine digging all targets. Most of the time you will find a little gold in with them. Its working above the high water line, when you find trash - that's all you get is trash! Thanks for the support.
Awesome video loaded with helpful tidbits of seasoned knowledge! From one Gary to another, I thank you for your time and effort! I've got my Garrett detector in Japan and am looking forward to exploring the many rivers surrounding Mt. Fuji and Toi, Izu where there was a full scale gold mine many years ago!. Don't know if I'll find anything but it'll be fun to try!! Cheers!!
I have watched every one of your videos, some of them several times. Not to say they all aren’t good but...This one I found more enjoyable than most. And I learned a couple of new tricks from you too! I live in Western Washington and we don’t get big nuggets around here (got to drive East over the mountains or those) in fact pretty much the largest gold we’ll find in the Western 1/2 (if you’re lucky) will be rice sized. I have 3 detectors and 2 pin pointers. I haven’t tried gold hunting with them bug hopefully you can tell me which might be best suited for my needs. Detectors: 1, Bounty Hunter QDII with the 4” “nugget coil” 2. Bounty Hunter Land Ranger with its own 4” “nugget coil” (Ihave these because for several years I made the switch to coin and jewelry hunting) 3. Minelab GoFind 60 (I won this as a door prize at a gold show!) I realize that none of these are true “gold machines” but 1 may be better then the others. My pin pointers are: 1. Garrett Carrot 2. Falcon MD-20 (the real gold pin pointer bug the range is only like 1/4-1/2” Now I started out with an old model Whites and used it to locate the magnetic black sands then panned everything. Found lots of...NOTHING! After a few years I gave up and switched to coin shooting but your videos have inspired me to give nugget hunting another shot. Thanks for that! I’m looking forward to your next video...Happy Holidays! Terry
Just came across this excellent instructional video, 4 years later but better than never. Would a pin pointer help locating the gold faster in crevices?
great video mate im going to start looking for gold, i live close to the Victorian gold fields in Australia, I think they would of left more gold there. Just think of what technology we have compared to the old prospectors . I feel that if i didn't give it a go i would regret it . Some of the biggest nuggets have been fond in The Victorian Golden triangle. I am thinking about making a video of how im going to do it. I need everything needed to find gold good time to collect all my tools etc and go after winter which is very close. Can't wait 😉
Just found your channel and really enjoyed this video. 4.21 pennyweight of gold is worth around $325. Not bad for a beautiful day on a river in the mountains!
28:10 Would it be more efficient to carry a 3x3 foot white/black/green sheet/tarp/plywwod...and dump the contents of what you dug out into it, spread it out, scan it with the detector and see if you find something rather than taking the fill to the waters edge and panning it?
It only takes a minute or so to pan it out. A detector will not pick up the very fine gold, so you would miss that - some days fine gold is all you find. Thanks - Gary
Absolutely love your videos Gary, what a lovely generous man you are to share your skills to the world, you have inspired no doubt thousands of people. I noticed a link to your shop, do you ship to the Republic of Ireland and if you do could you price what it would cost in shipping for crevice tools gold pan, all the stuff u sell except sluice box, thanks a mill
Do you think there is any gold in New York State and what part of the state would be the best rivers leading to the Hudson river or up in the Catskill Mountains?
I'd love to hit that spot with the largest iron bar I could carry, to move a few of those big rocks out of the way to see what is hidden underneath. Great video. Congrats on the nice gold. I never thought before about the angle of the coil when searching. That little piece of advice is something I hope to remember. I am sure that I am guilty of it.

I sincerely THANK YOU and keep the videos coming.
I’m gonna subscribe, like, share the video and click the notifications button right away.
You make the best instructional videos. I head up to downieville the end of the week, can't wait to try your techniques.
Good luck and thank you for the support!
It’s good to see Two Toes again. Love all your videos. Thank you.
hey... 28:47 on the video. you showed us the pan. i saw lotts of fines in the pan also. your in a great area. course pickers and fines... nice.
One of my favorite tools is a silicon camping food bowl. I use it like the pan to brush dirt in to. The nice thing is I can shove it into a crevice to get all the dirt I can.
Great day Gary. I enjoy watching you hunt because you're always teaching along the way. Thanks for sharing your time and expertise.
One hell of a day out in the battleground, nice Pan of gold in the end, what else can you ask for, but a repeat on your next hunt, may the gold Gods keep on shining that beautifull metal upon you. Subed. Gl and hh.
Thank you very much
This is the first time ive ever seen your channel. I've just subscribed. It was amazing to watch. I love it when folks get to live the dream like you are. I live in the South West of the UK. I'd love to try and find gold here. I doubt there is any.....
You'd find it further north
I'm so envious! What a lovely way to spend a day, treasure hunting in such a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Amazingly awesome hunt Gary! Thanks for sharing. 🤘👊👍
Pretty good actual treasure hunting video. Thanks for sharing your time and technique how to do metal detector for gold hunting. take care pal.
I could watch you clean out crevices all day long. You're so dreamy. Bahahaha! It is so satisfying. I watch others but so often they don't actually show the scratching. That is the part I like the most.
I learned a lot from your video and appreciate all the tips. Thanks Gary from New Zealand.
Thanks again Two Toes, for sharing your vast knowledge with the rest of us, hoping to find gold nuggets ! I look forward to trying what you teach within your great metal detecting video !! Thanks again !!!!
You are too kind, Thank you vey much
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of information how to find gold it is good to learn from the best by research and look for so many different things and ideas you are the top of the list number one in my books thank you
Gary, I must agree with you that this was also my all time favorite video ! I have the same detector and coil as you use in your video and with you showing your hands-on experience, gives me hope that I can someday find nuggets as well !!! Thanks again for sharing your vast knowledge !!!! ( Keep on doing the GOLD metal detecting videos .... )
I'm have plans in the next week or two showing just how I set and use my TDI and Goldmaster detectors.
Looking forward to that lesson !!!!!@@TwoToes
The pieces Gary throws back is bigger than anything I've seen.
Wow! When you pulled out that first nugget, I couldn't believe my eyes! Man your videos are so cool. I really appreciate what you do! Thanks for the education and the vicarious experience.
I was doing the same wow! Finding a nugget on your first target makes for a good day!. Thank you for the support.
I've never done any real prospecting, not yet, but I think I'm ready to take a shot. Thanks for the greet info :)
Loved your video. You're right about any day being a good day if you can be out in air panning for gold. I love those days and am like a little kid, "but why do I have to go inside? I'm not done playing!", Lol.
I just watched this for the second time and I can tell you it's worth seeing again. Gary has so much knowledge that I can always learn something new.
I've learned more from your channel than all the others I've watched. thank you.
Thank you - you are to kind.
I would totally go out there with you one day and hunt for gold. I love going to the hills.
Pretty useful video! Keep it up man! You rock!
I really enjoy gold prospecting (Panning, sluicing, crevicing) no matter how much gold I find. Just got myself a metal detector.
another wow !!! that was one of the best vids i've seen...learned so much !!! gonna watch it again !!!
Thank you very much!
agreed Billy
What river , ole buddy?? I read lower. North Cal?
Hey i love your video you have inspired me to look for my own treasures! I have yet to find anything as the weather is terrible but i will keep you posted
Thank you ! You're very nice and down to earth and a straight shooter ! All my love and respect ! Michael.
Watching your videos is giving me gold fever. I'm getting my ass out there and panning for some gold this summer.
so where do you go sell it?
Good question.
That was one very exciting gold hunt. I've seen this or others by you before and must say I knew immediately I was watching a master. Thanks for the treat.
A 2 hour hike? Wow. That is huge. Good on you Gary.
Absolutely loved your outlook on the day. Great video,. Cheers John
Nice lil find there buddy. Thank you for sharing , I learned some valuable info and enjoyed watching. Good luck in finding the mother load of gold
Fantastic videos, all of them. You take the time to explain the meaningful processes behind the fun. Thank you!
Thank you very much.
I have to say, I love your attitude on life, it was awesome to watch this video and I loved watching
How does one locate areas to go look around for gold. Or even get started. I have recently retired and would like to give it a try. I have always been interested in the woods and the adventures
I'm Glad you had such a good day.You gave us all a bunch if nuggets to add to our knowledge poke. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and adventures.
That was a fun day! Thank you for the support and good luck.
Another great video Mr. Honan. And I am sorry for your loss.
Thank you very much.
Hi from Indianapolis Indiana
Awesome video loaded with helpful tidbits of seasoned knowledge! From one Gary to another, I thank you for your time and effort! I've got my Garrett detector in Japan and am looking forward to exploring the many rivers surrounding Mt. Fuji and Toi, Izu where there was a full scale gold mine many years ago!. Don't know if I'll find anything but it'll be fun to try!! Cheers!!
Dang, I've already been to this video. Still worth a second watch. Man O Man I wish our N.M. gold looked like yours.
pulesjet what State’s he in?
I dig the iron targets also if they are not huge area targets like pipes n such. I have found big chunky gold rings off of them.
You inspired me to metal detect for gold!
Much appreciated😎👍
That 3rd crevice just didnt't PAN out! lol Thank you for this video! I learned a lot.
Detectors:
1, Bounty Hunter QDII with the 4” “nugget coil”
2. Bounty Hunter Land Ranger with its own 4” “nugget coil”
(Ihave these because for several years I made the switch to coin and jewelry hunting)
3. Minelab GoFind 60 (I won this as a door prize at a gold show!)
I realize that none of these are true “gold machines” but 1 may be better then the others.
My pin pointers are:
1. Garrett Carrot
2. Falcon MD-20 (the real gold pin pointer bug the range is only like 1/4-1/2”
Now I started out with an old model Whites and used it to locate the magnetic black sands then panned everything.
Join the club mate - l just moved just west of Bendigo - Hopefully you leave enough gold for me
Good job bud, you are lucky to have places like that to go to. It is beautiful there.
Wonderful to see you at work. I thank you and wish you the best of luck
That was a very nice day you had Two Toes. Thank you for sharing.
Really Nice day of Hunting, Glad I found your Channel. I'm from Northern Cal but I live in Reno right now. Love the Mountains and Hunting the area.
Your in a good spot - Got gold on both sides! Thanks for the support
I live in Reno!
Just got into this ,havent found anything yet but now I'm excited!
Very informative. Thanks for straight forward info. Didn't know about the point of the detector going down to a point from the ring. Thanks again
Do any detectors have lithium batteries nowadays?? Are the old ones heavier
Is there anything I can use for a coil cover if I don't have one...until I can get one thanks?
Absolutely love your videos Gary, what a lovely generous man you are to share your skills to the world, you have inspired no doubt thousands of people. I noticed a link to your shop, do you ship to the Republic of Ireland and if you do could you price what it would cost in shipping for crevice tools gold pan, all the stuff u sell except sluice box, thanks a mill
Very relaxing to watch this!!
What is a good metal detector? I have a 70$ one. Is it good enough to hunt gold?
Do you think there is any gold in New York State and what part of the state would be the best rivers leading to the Hudson river or up in the Catskill Mountains?
I'd love to hit that spot with the largest iron bar I could carry, to move a few of those big rocks out of the way to see what is hidden underneath. Great video. Congrats on the nice gold. I never thought before about the angle of the coil when searching. That little piece of advice is something I hope to remember. I am sure that I am guilty of it.
Every time I watch your video I learn something thank you
Well done.....dont give up for positive thinking to hear the best from tomorrow on.......some dangerous place should think before u go.......
I would love if you could make a video about mercury cleaning process and also different black sand cleaning techniques. love your stuff!
It is in the works. I have been putting it off until it starts raining and I can't go prospecting. That way I can still find a little gold!
