Bought a set of S3 coils for my ge8 fit during their black friday sale. I also have a progress rear sway bar waiting to go on when the coilovers arrive. I got the street/track set up (8kg front / 6kg rear)
I’m kinda confused as to the set up of the suspension. Shouldn’t the springs be preloaded and not loose? My understanding is that if the springs aren’t pre loaded, then the dampers would essentially be under more load and thus bottoming out faster. Also if and when the the travel of the damper does happen then the damper will take a greater hit due to loose spring collar. The dampers shouldn’t bottom out especially with high spring rates.
That is a great technical question and I can't personally give you a greatly worded answer but here's a link to a post from honed developments in 2021 that should do a good job explaining. instagram.com/p/CP-WUMyHqr-/?igsh=c2Q2YnM1eHBrdDU1
OK, quick update. I just received these and as I was installing the front, I noticed that the bump stop is a lot smaller and did not get to reach at full compression. I’m not sure how you were able to tell on your set up with the dust boot on. I did it without it so I can see the stop actually hitting first what ended up really happening was my actual suspension components had maxed out before stop made contact. That is also a probability as to your set up as well. I realize that this suspension could not be set up this way due to the travel and suspension geometry. Also, I realize now that I don’t think this type of suspension set up is meant for a linear spring rate only progressive. I say this because the linear spring rate will always be the same rate regardless causing the shock to do its job regardless of travel. If you really wanted to have this kind of setup you would essentially buy a coil over set up with the correct spring size (helper springs defeat the purpose). Note* sway bars weren’t connected.
Definitely much stiffer and not quite as comfortable on the street but they definitely helped take a lot of roll out of the car and sharpen up the front end on track
@@blackGRC definitely depends on spring rates. I actually ended up changing the spring rates from 9k front 6k rear to 8k front 9k rear and it helped a bit but I think I'm going to go down further yet to a 6k in the front
Honestly the best thing about going to the s3 coilovers is they don't clunk like the godspeeds did. I replaced the top hats when I put the godspeeds in but they always clunked over bumps while turning
I think they're a great coilover but you have to be honest with yourself about what the main purpose of the car is. I think I went a little stiff on the spring rates but that's an issue with my choice of spring not the coilovers themselves
Thanks for the advice. Ended up choosing the street/track package. Still doing some research for camber plate options. Seems like honed has been a leader. But I still got some time before I do that
@@itsreallytom4310 I chose the honed ones because of the additional caster it provides and having an actually adjustable camber plate doesn't really matter on the fits since they have camber bolts down at the knuckle.
Gran Turismo bgm 👌
Have S3 Streets on my 00 Civic Coupe, absolutely love them. Worked amazing paired with some Azenis 615K when I took it to Streets of Willow.
“Nah it’s gonna be a daily. And maybe some auto x” 😂
The cycle continues

very god instalation bro
Very good details and helpful information!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!
For the fronts, were you able to use the two stock bottom bolts? My car came with Godspeed and they drilled out to make the oe bottom bolts to work.
Yes I had no issues. I had godspeed on the car previously and the stock bolts worked there as well
I just got a gd3 2007 , I noticed you had Godspeed coilovers , how was it before you switched ?
Good on the street a bit soft for track use. Just make sure you loctite the nuts on the top hats and you'll be fine

Awesome thank you!
Wow.. I’ve been setting up my suspension wrong all these years. Thank you

how do the s3 compare to the monomax?
Definitely much stiffer and not quite as comfortable on the street but they definitely helped take a lot of roll out of the car and sharpen up the front end on track
@AHS_motorsport fuuu monomax was more comfy??

7 month review? Still worth it? 10% for Labor Day I’m thinking of pulling the trigger
