Perfect timing again! I cleaned out the rear window channels on my pickup and the felt washed out in rotted clumps. I took it for a drive and it rattled worse than the marbles in a praycan. I'll get the replacement parts on monday and do the repair just as you did.
Thank you for the videos, I’ve benefited so much from these. In the hope I can give back a little… the forums suggested Woolies (not that Woolies!!!) - Small Window Channel for a permanent fix for this issue. It’s a felt covered U-shaped rubber to replace the felt. I bought 3m to do the non plastic runner bits on both sides. Using your method it worked a charm. Thanks again for all the hints and tips.
Nice Christmas gift for you're customer , you know watching all you're videos I'm getting the desire of owning a Land Rover , hope you can talk me out of it. Merry Christmas to you.
I did my ex military front door tops the same way, use the glass to slide the seal, all the people on forums saying it can't be done without pulling the door top to pieces, drilling rivets and God knows what else! No need, 10mins a side this way.
I have one of these to do so its useful to watch you do one first! Im probably going to use some silicon lubricant spray to help the seals slide in the channels and against the glass.
fantastic - its a job i'm hoping to get done over the Christmas holidays.. Anyway, Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year when it comes Mike, thanks again for all the tips.
Have you seen the Garrison Outfitters profiles rubber channel to take the felt’s place? Very expensive, but should last much longer and stop the rattles. I also have rattles from the bottom, having used generic window channel in place of the felt and managing to stop the upper rattles.
Yes, I’ve done it before myself, but the new felt only lasted a few years before the rattles returned, so I did it again with some U-channel from Wolves trim using pretty much the same method you showed. I did make the mistake of using that channel around the two corners, but the way it puckers in the bends made the panes very hard to close, so I put felt back in the front edge and corners and keep the channel along the top. That is working, but they have now developed a rattle from the plastic channels at the bottom. I got a set of those Garrison seals second hand but unused for £30, so they should be worth a punt. It’ll be some time before I get a chance to fit them, though.
Hi Mike ..my side window shattered in many pieces today but still intact ..if you see what I mean .how do I replace the window please ….is there a video you have done on replacement…many thanks .Paul
The vertical seals (part MWC7614 & MWC7615) are leaking on my Defender 90 sliding side rear windows and i would like to know if these can be replaced without having to take out the entire window.
Hi I’m working my way through your videos, very informative and of immense help working on my 90. Regards this job i had felt in the top and bottom channels but its rotted away. I want to replace both, would you start with fitting the felt in the bottom channel 1st then fit to the top or vice-versa. Thanks Andy
I wish you would hold the before and after a little longer, I was still trying to decide which was which when you moved on. A UK garage would have charged an hour per side for that.
@@BritannicaRestorations Ive got a 90 that I'm doing up and looking for inspiration for a respray in the spring. It'll be a farm truck mainly. Don't think I've ever seen a defender in that blue, I quite like it!

I'm located in Calgary, AB, Canada. Where do I buy this "pricky" thing? Is there a proper name for this tool so I don't offend anybody when shopping for one 😉?
Having just attempted these with Bearmach seals, I wonder if britpart ones are easier, the bearmach ones are stiff as heck and I now can't move the window 😂
@@BritannicaRestorations this makes alot of sense, given how now I can't actually move the window back or forwards, walked away to make a brew before breaking it with me sausage fingers 😂

As a Brit you should have thought slightly harder mate before making the comment of 'just get your prick out' lol. Love your videos, keep them coming!!!
Thanks Mike. Just about to do this on my 90. I have found some felt strip from Woolies, 3mm x 25mm x6ft for 2.50 each so, for a fiver plus postage got to be worth a try. Looking at my old strip it looks to be about 15mm wide so I shall probably have to trim it down a bit. Are you able to confirm the 15mm? Cheers. www.woolies-trim.co.uk/product/1717/black-felt-strip
great video, very clear instructions. I'm off to the garage.
Thought I’d finished working on the Landy this week. Guess you’ve just given me another job to do. Take out match stick wedges and put proper seal in!

Ten years I've had rubber door stops wedged in there. I'd write more, but the pub's open :-)
Thats my job for the week. Thanks Mike.
Enjoy!
Hi Mike very well done as always very great help I have to do one of these on Saturday very many thanks Eliot
No need to put up with rattling windows - most annoying!
I remember your earlier videos where you were very shy mike, you have come a long way on camera, keep up the good work mike
I may be nude day soon....
Have had rattling windows, used mastic as thought this would we a window out job, Fantastic info. Thanks
You're welcome!
This video helped me out sooooo much when going to do my own back two windows. Thank you 😊
Glad it helped!
Just done it. Cheers mike. I can now remove the pound of anti-rattle dum dum, matchsticks and silicone from the window!
Think of the power and speed gains, with all that excess weigh taken off!!

Thank you for this. You make it look easy
Glad to help

yes - just a bit of patience and the right felt
Great fix video - just carried out on my defender :). Thanks for this!
No problem 👍
I have one of these to do so its useful to watch you do one first! Im probably going to use some silicon lubricant spray to help the seals slide in the channels and against the glass.
You could use silicon, but the issue is the rattling not the sliding

Merry Christmas to you also!
Awesome!! Time to quiet down those windows.
Oh yeah!
Beauty video!
The part number is correct for a station wagon with one sliding window, there is also a short rubber buffer to fit at the back top corner.
Have you seen the Garrison Outfitters profiles rubber channel to take the felt’s place? Very expensive, but should last much longer and stop the rattles. I also have rattles from the bottom, having used generic window channel in place of the felt and managing to stop the upper rattles.
These are about £10 per side and the originals were 23 years old and as you can see quite easy to change

Yes it could be interesting as it needs the gearbox out - and it is one of those gas guzzling 6 cylinders!
Britannica Restorations Ltd very nice !!!! I love my gas guzzling 8 cylinder. I always like how smooth the 6 cyl was. I look forward to it !!!!!!
About the same MPG - back in the day they pulled the 6 and put the V8 3.5 in as you got more power

Thanks for reply .but can I just replace the window and not take the frame out ..or do you have to take it out ..thanks again .

Sorry Bob they cannot - you have to remove the window
Good news is they are just simple windscreen wiper blades !
Perfect timing !! Is there nothing along the bottom? Or is that a plastic channel, which might need replacing?
Nope - there is just a plastic runner - they are usually ok

Andy there should not be felt in the bottom but there should be a plastic runner so it does not adsorb water
Hi Mike, what about replacing the vertical seal between the 2 panes of glass? Mine don’t seal & wind blows through.
You have to remove the window and strip it down to do the seal as it slides in from the top or bottom of the window
I should have known, it’s not like Land Rover to make things easy, I guess they’re going to be a bit draughty lol
