"Im your biggest fan" seemed to go right over everyones head. Very charismatic dude, I was pleasantly surprised to see this
Of course it went over their heads. ;-)
@@roccoreid2842 Well played sir. Excellent!
Why surprised? Expected a goon?
@@davidmurphy9974 I was surprised because it randomly popped up in my feed. I watched it because the interview was done very close to my date of birth, and love Letterman but conversely knew nothing of Rich. I didnt expect a goon, no, nor did I want one but I got one in you. Keep your snarky snide comments to yourself. How dare you try to throw shade on anything here.

“I was flying AA airlines, I couldn’t understand it, everyone was drinking...” That gag went for nothing... What a charming man :-)
Nice catch. That joke flew over me. Pun intended.

This joke has runway with itself
I'll drink to that
@@douglaslally156 The kind of joke that goes under the radar
What an absolute gentleman, Roger Moore was distraught, when he sadly passed, as they were very close friends, despite the films. God bless you Richard, you're part of my childhood!

Richard really was a gentle giant off camera.
He was great in those James Bond movies.
Richard was a family friend. Very nice, friendly, Godly man. Richard and my dad would hang out. Write songs and a movie.
Wow how lovely to hear that information, I could see straight away he was a genuine nice peaceful person ❤
Nice to hear man, Was he born again?
Ive always liked this actor.
😮
He was born again. He wrote a biography. My mom used to make shirts for him. The shirts looked like tents if I'd put one on. Once my brother and I picked him up at the airport. He would be surrounded. He would talk to everyone. Was a very humble man.
@@kelliethomas8171 so awesome to hear as I will get a chance to meet him in the future. 😊
A big man with a sense of humour. A true gentle giant...
All big guys aren't what you think they are at ❤!
This is one of the best interviews I've ever come across. Richard is naturally funny, such a pity Hollywood didn't use him more.
May he rest in peace.
Ya GREAT INTERVIEW, I NEVER KNEW HIS NAME, AFTER DAVE I ADMIRE HIM MORE!!
Bless this GENTLE GIANT,RIP.
I LOVE HIM SO MUCH !!!! Jaws, Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore...
Probably because he was a Godly man and the satanist of hollywierd don't like that
He was the original Incredible Hulk.
"I sleep in shifts". Classy guy. Love this type of subtle humor. Several zingers flew right over audience.
what does it mean?
Yeah he had 30 IQ points on the audience, he was really funny. Wish he was still with us.
I worked at a large teaching hospital it the late '90's. His photos with sick kids were displayed and come to find out he had a reputation for visiting kids all over. CLASS ACT.
🙌🏼
In real life Richard Kiel was hilarious.
The joke about the gap in his teeth was both self-deprecating and a little dig at Dave and you can see it took Dave completely by surprise.
Rest in peace, Mr. Kiel.
The guy was actually smooth with his lines it was cool to see.
@@m.h.5510 very
It absolutely caught him off guard! He had to recoup but he loved it. He's usually the one to throw such digs around!
Dave often pokes fun at himself, but when its not in his control and dropped on him like that; you can tell its unsettling for him.
what? he is dead?
He was so well spoken and articulate. Clearly a very intelligent man.
@@NoOne-kr4jc swing and ya missed
He even owned Letterman a couple of times.
And a great humor and wit!
Clearly
He was a star! The best villain ever!
"Haven't you ever seen a a guy with a space between his teeth?" Hahaha and the zoom on David. What a great wit Richard Kiel was, awesome guy.
I met him a few years back before his passing. One of the nicest & kindest people in show business & a beautiful human-being. Not to mention funny and intelligent!
Same here. Met him at a convention around 2010. He was clearly in pain and was drowsy from the painkillers he was on, but he took the time to greet every fan with a smile. I told him that nobody scared the crap out of me as a kid and made me laugh so hard as an adult like he did. He took my hand and laughed. I'm a big guy myself, 6'3" and 250lbs., but his absolutely engulfed mine. Absolutely wonderful man.
I passed ways with him too within a few years before his passing it was late 2011 but I didn't speak because he was apparently with his family and didn't want to disturb him but it was at The Grand Canyon during the holidays it was eather Thanksgiving or Christmas. But he looked over at me and greeted although he wasn't feeling well as I could tell.
Who the hell would give this a thumbs down? This guy will be remembered forever!

He was in The Evil That Men Do-Chas Bronson and more. Played a real evil dude. A fantastic movie! Charlie put him to death quickly and painfully.

Flew out of Fresno back in 1985 and Mr Kiel was also a passenger. This was before cellphones and selfie’s. He signed autographs and took pic with anyone who had asked. Heck of a nice guy. Thanks
He’s buried at Belmont Cemetery in Fresno.
There is no smarter than this guy and there is not a better gentleman than himself.

Had the pleasure of meeting him briefly about 15 years ago. An extremely nice guy. And quite funny in interviews! RIP sir.
He was great in the original The Longest Yard movie from 1974 . Richard played quite a few hilarious characters over the years of his career .
I loved the scene in the Longest Yard when Connie Shockner broke Samson’s nose. Samson said he didn’t want to play football anymore and said Shockner broke his nose on purpose. Then Crew yelled at Shockner, “ TELL HIM YOU’RE…tell him you’re sorry”.
"I think I broke his fucking neck."

Dude, he was frightening as a James Bond villain. His hand completely covered roger Moore’s face!
Your comment saved my life.
He must have hated talking about his size in every interview when he's clearly a very intelligent man
I do wish these talk show hosts would ask sensible questions.

It's (usually) because they never have to experience bullying so they grow up to be pretty well adjusted. They also (usually) don't have anything to prove to anyone since it's generally accepted that they could kick anybody's ass if they wanted to.
@@jondavidlloyd1986, that's certainly true, but such folks also prevent bullying from the offset. Where I grew up in Dungarvan, Co Waterford in the RoI, there were the three brothers Jamey, Jimmy and Ernie O'Brien. They were, in age and in size (at that time, 1960), 16, 18 and 20 - 6'8", 6'9" and 6'10". If they ever heard of anyone being bullied, they turned up. Bullying over!

Tons of subtle jokes. Super engaging, bright guy. Pretty interesting.

Phenomenally talented man. Articulate, charming, intelligent, and charismatic. Rest In Peace Mr. Kiel!
Just a few short years before his passing, he was at the California State Fair in Sacramento, selling still prints from his motion pictures. If you purchased any prints, he would pose with you, with one of his many gruesome expressions, so I did, and my daughter snapped the photo, which I treasure very much. Can you imagine … there’s a knock at the door and you open it, and Richard Kiel is standing there? 😂
You don't expect such an imposing man to be witty and funny. Both Letterman and the audience were too much in awe of him to even notice most of his jokes, which were brilliant! I almost barfed when he put his hand on Letterman and you could the blood leaving Letterman's face.
He sent me a short letter in 90 or 91 with his picture when I was a soldier taking part in operation Desert Storm over in the Persian gulf. Lived next door to my Aunt in CA I guess and she asked him to. Don't know how I got to this video, it was just there so I clicked on it.
My first job was as a delivery driver for a Chinese Restaurant in 1988. I took an order to a hotel in downtown Colorado Springs, and this giant dude opened the door. He was in town for a church event. Of course I recognized him. Every 80’s kid knew who Jaws was. We chatted for a bit but I don’t remember what we talked about. He was so nice though. I do vividly remember how enormous yet soft his hands were when we shook hands. And that’s my Richard Kiel story. RIP.
