Can the NDT guy make a channel, TheNDTguy channel!? Weld testing is just as interesting as welding itself! TheNDTguy is always talking about what sounds like some super cool equipment... would love to see it!
I am a NDT tech. We have some cool stuff we mess with. Electromagnets, ultrasound, liquid penetrant. I. Was a welder for over 10 years before becoming a NDT technician.
@@codymoody1793 cool 👍🏻 I’m taking the pcn level 2 mpi test in 3 weeks I’m a welder too after 13 years I’m ready for something new. Any advice? Good place to revise ? Books ect..
Currently working on my PT, UT, and MT Level I and II classroom certs. What would be the best position for me to apply for to get in with a company such as Team/Acuren?
Hi Bob. One question, how come adding a copper wire to the weld causes a crack, but the copper coating on MIG wire is OK? Is it just to do with the amount of copper included? Thanks, always appreciate your teachings.
I work in the petrochemical and lubricants industry and I see ndt inspectors doing Magnetic Particle Inspections on the welds of Vertical storage tanks. I see the magnetic particles are in powder form in this video, will this not fall off the vertical tanks when applied? apologies for the ignorance I am inexperienced. any guidance ?
I did learnes a lot of very cool stuff. I’m not a welder and aside from one day go welding I use your educational videos to understand the work of others. Thank you very much.
At 19:40ish, or....just do the same process on the opposite side of the workpiece. Right? Or am I missing what he’s trying to accomplish here or something?
Question for anyone with an answer: I briefly worked at a factory that had welders (I was not one, I know nothing about it, hence me being here 😊). One day while a guy was welding, he accidentally stuck something into his hand and it caused his hand to inflate like a balloon. It was at least double the size. It looked horrifying! I always wondered what exactly happened. What did he stick in his hand? I never got to ask. Thanks!
Why are most of your welds in the vertical position? You say you have trouble doing overhead then thats the weld position you should be working on. A 4G.
Hey Bob if you needed that plate to crack you should have let me weld it for you.

Agreed! We need NDT guy to start a channel! Awesome video btw.
Depends on what you like. I think ndt is fascinating.

Good stuff thanks Bob! and best failed weld!
thank you sooooo much for using a darker filter! being able to actually see the puddle on yalls vids is grate!
As a NDT inspector its a joy to listen to this inspector he really knows his stuff. Would love to see him do some rt

The coating is less than a micron thick, some bacteria are thicker than that. Its either a tiny amount of copper, or rust particles in your welds.

The powder is magnetic, meaning it while "stick" when the inspection equipment introduces a magnetic current into the welds of the storage tank.
There’s a 2 part spray variant that does the same trick
Camera guy is awesome. The footage looks amazing.
Thanks for another good video. Id be interested to see more videos on pulse mig of both stainless and mild steel if at all possible.
next time have Camera Guy weld it and for sure will crack!
Hey "Camera Guy" give you 20 bucks to bend Bob's wire. If you can't beat him golf, then bend away!!
Not sure if you changed cameras or something but everything looks good! keep up the good work and thanks for helping me further my welding knowledge!
Fantastic job Bob!
I like the new quality of the videos thanks bob
The 60fps at the welding instances does the lot. It feels more like it does in reality :)
Could you show us what cold wire on the root looks like on x ray ??
Thanks Bob, very educational.
Tayvin Thompson Thank you.
very cool video.
This is the kind of stuff we'd almost never get to see outside of a school
Been waiting for this one since the Instagram teaser! Good stuff, Bob.
I learn something new every Monday and Friday about welding. Thanks Bob!
You can detect flaws nearing a half an inch???
What the difference in the nozzles?
Mr. greens boat tanks and aluminium welding Spray nozzle is longer with a more recessed contact tip.
Bob Moffatt thanks Bob that helps a lot with my aluminium welding.
Nice video Bob. Interesting technology. Just a thought. Have you ever handed a student a piece of magnetized metal to weld? Might be fun.
George W Not intentionally.
Cool video! Thanks!
NDT guy should get some sweet revenge and magnetize Bobs test plates muahah 🧲
Thank you!. :)
Machine shops you this for checking cast iron cylinder heads, well used to. Now that everything is made out of aluminum,
thank you for the video
This is great video.. can you let us know how to produce similar crack on stainless and Aluminium material?
My Inspection and Testing teacher told me to watch this video.

Magnetic peace, knowing your weld is not going to fail and injure someone.
Totally destroy your cellphone in a milla second.
Hey Bob can you run spray over copper coated subarc wire and it not crack

You work that yoke all the way down the weld in a 45 or 90 degree angle in both directions. From top to bottom. I think that's what you're asking?
Awesome, really interesting stuff
What a great video !!
Thank you so much
I have learnt a lot

Sounds like maybe he was tig welding and he stuck himself with a piece of tungsten possibly, sometimes people can have so,e pretty bad reactions
Can a dye penetrant test reveal those cracks too?
Dang. I want to work with you guys!
Good morning Bob...
Lowell Green Good morning Lowell
Thanks Bob!
Learned alot
Thanks, Bob, really good one
I tell yhou whhut bhobby wuaaaa
Testing the testmen. I like it.
In what type of situation do you have to take a hand written test in welding
Bryan Bennington CWE/CWI or any other AWS test, endorsements, NOCTI, NCCER, Skills U.S.A. There are plenty.
Crater crack ?? Star crack
You are not "Testing the NDT guy" if you tell him ahead of time that you are setting him up. Clickbait.
Quite the fashion statement, a Chinchilla headband.

Sitting up here playing games.
Proper term would be inclusion not crack.
This is how they test Crain parts at work .. boom welds and Even cast hooks
