The Jim Dandy is one of my favorite budget acoustic guitars. Its perfect for a kinda lo-fi type sound or delta blues type sound. Though I wish Gretch would add a Solid Top version as an option. I think that would really make it a little more to me.
Just got one of the parlors in at the shop I work at. I opened it up to tune it and put it on the wall but ended up buying it on the spot. It felt and sounded incredible; I did NOT expect to like it as much as I did. If you're interested in one, definitely go for the burst. It almost glows in person. This guitar punches way above its price point.
Just got my Gretsch Jim Dandy dreadnaught Rex Burst today, and its great for the money! I love it! Its not a J45 but it doesnt have to be its got a great sound anyway and its easy to play except i havent player for awhile so my fingers are gonna get a bit sore but mine came well setup, action isnt too high, no sharp frets, gonna buy the deltoluxe pickup next when i can and its gonna be perfect! Sounds pretty much like it does here
Make no mistake, these are fender guitars! They're branded gretsch but they're under the fender umbrella, i work for a fender authorized dealer and with my employee discount i got the dreadnought slope shoulder without the pickup, it just stood out to me and i had to buy it before it went on the sales floor 😭 might get the deltoluxe parlor in black just cause it looks badass, sounds better than a little martin and baby taylor
7:53 is John Mayer stop this train, and he is spot on with it. Great song. At this point in my life, I truly think I feel the way John did when he wrote this.
I own a 64 stella deluxe, cost 28 dollars brand new. That doesnt even compare what to the old girl will do. It doesnt have the sound for sure. Just wanting to see what Dagon can do with the concert. You still got it going on. The frontier and the rex burst concerts are made of different tone wood laminates. Sapele was one and the other was basswood i think. Ill know when they get here. Might keep one of them. They sound pretty good.
I used to turn my nose up at these. I still think you can get better for the money, but I picked up a Jim Dandy parlour at a pawn shop yesterday, and I had to make myself put it down. I would love to have one to throw in the corner of the bedroom, or on the back seat of the car.
i have 2 Jim Dandy's lots online about the bridge pulling the flat top up, great guitars though i have now fitted tail pieces on mine to prevent the lifting
@@PMTVUK I found out that even brass/bronze strings have a ferrous core wire. I bet someone will try nylon though at some point and put in a warranty claim.
Actually broken about the PMT in Portsmouth closing down with practically no warning from the PMT company, literally no where to go for good instruments now in my area..
I have an older Jim Dandy parlor and it has a bridge without pins, the strings just slide through a hole. It is SO much easier to change strings with that style, I'm sorry Gretsch changed to a bridge with pins.
They had an issue with the bridge lifting over time on the old model. That's why people started modding them with tails. Hopefully the issue is now fixed.
I wanted one but after playing it I was so disappointed. I wanted to love it but it just felt awful. I hated it. You get much better cheap guitars that sound way way better. The shop owner showed me an ‘Adam Black’ that was even cheaper than the Jim dandy but felt and sounded twice as good. In the end I didn’t buy one. Waiting to have a go on a Prs parlour to see what that’s like. The Jim dandy looks the part but that’s all
Excellent playing Dagan! Love change-up to acoustic! Magic in the fingers.
I highly recommend them - I have several guitars but my 200-dollar Jim Dandy remains my favorite.
Getting the concert tommorow during lunch at work, plan to use it at my next show! Pumped
I have had Jim Dandy parlor for a couple of years now. I love it. It is the one that is my lounge and available all the time. The tone is just great.

Hats off to you for playing the intro of Wonderboy by Tenacious D, Dagan🤘 Even Jack and kyle would be quite amazed by you playing that
nice tone from the concert

Just got a dreadnought today,, love it, plays really easy and sounds good too and for the price you can't beat it 👍.

That Gretsch Rex was what Elvis played on his first recording that started his career. A little tune called thats allright mama
Tenacious D Intro. Wonderboy 🙏
This Boy is not gonna cry, these guitars rise above the Mucky Muck!
🙌🙌🙌
To install this pickup, do I need to drill holes in the top of the guitar?

This guitar reminds me a lot to Jimmy Page acoustic songs. Such a beautiful sound!

What strap are you using?
Am I correct in thinking that the pickup versions require electric guitar strings but the others will use acoustic strings?
Nah, regular acoustic strings will be fine 👌

Really thinking of buying one of these. But need to ask was that wonderboy by Tenacious D as opening song?
Yep!
Dagon is my favourite guitar player ever lol such a pimp
I like the jazzy stuff!

when will these be in stock on your website?
Is it solid top guitar?
All laminated basswood body. Top, back and sides.
Is it worth spending twice as much on a Art Lutherie Roadhouse?
Absolutely, but you'll be twice as careful with it!
How high is the action on those?
Nice and low!
Take my money!! Ordered one!! You can custom the S£$% out of these little Baby's!
An acquired taste... like Scottish whisky...i actually like the sound...for blues for players who can really play i reckon... that's me out 😂
This or alvarez ap66
I have one, good for blues slide guitar that's about it...NOT an all around player for all styles
That’s about all I used mine for. Then it just sat there for months and months until I finally sold it.
The Dreadnought model sounds great especially with the pickup!
I wanted one but after playing it I was so disappointed. I wanted to love it but it just felt awful. I hated it. You get much better cheap guitars that sound way way better. You must've gotten a bad production one... I've loved every single one I've played!
What are your disappointments with the guitar?
You just don't get it, dood
Every one I have played was pretty shitty for casual playing honestly BUT great for recording slide.
