I've had general anaesthesia a couple times. One time, the doctor inserted a needle in my arm and told me to count to ten. I only got to three and woke up. The operation was over. The anesthetic works so well with me that from the time I got to three to the time I woke up, it feels like just one second went by. I'm in such a profound state of unconscionous that my operations feel like they go at lightening speed. Amazing.
I’ve been under general Anaesthesia for a knee operation. Do not remember a single thing. I could have died during the operation and I never would have known. Honestly it tests the belief in God. Maybe when you die it’s like being under general anesthesia except it’s for eternity. Hard concept to grasp.
I've got my first operation tommorw & I am having general anaesthesia too. I've been stressing out the past couple days, watching loads of videos on surgery and anaesthesia just to calm me down. But for anyone else who is doing this and has upcoming surgery, you will be completely fine and you will come out healthier and happier🤍🤍
I have had six operations. 3 brain surgeries and 3 leg surgeries. All of them under general anesthesia. I have been scared, but I was lucky to have calming doctors who would talk to me until I went under while breathing through a mask.
I had major surgery two days ago and was pretty scared of being put under but it was actually a good experience. I just remember taking a deep breath into that mask and my doctor leaning in and whispering everything is going to be okay. I felt so comforted by him saying that to me and woke up hours later refreshed and actually feeling amazing.
Going under was honestly one of the best feelings I was nervous but once they injected me time wasn’t of value I just drifted into darkness and woke up in what it felt like a matter of seconds ! It’s kinda like when you blink it goes dark and then you open your eyes and see full light
I was absolutely petrified but I promise you it’s really not scary at all. I don’t even remember falling asleep. Everyone is so kind and tells you everything that is happening. When I woke up I was confused but everyone is keeping a very close look at you and you are cared for amazingly
I had this done, the last thing i remember was the drugs being injected and the oxygen mask. The sensation is surreal, like time skipped and I'm back in a bed.
Today I am gonna face.. The same is predicted by me.. I believe it would be kind of a time skip.. kind of a deep sleep where we don't feel the time gap between the night and morning...
I was absolutely terrified of going under anesthesia. The night before my surgery I sat up crying and having anxiety. The day of my surgery I was shaking like crazy so scared. When they wheeled me in the room, it was cold and bright, and there were about 5 doctors. The one doctor put the oxygen mask over me and was asking me questions about my pets to distract me. Next thing I said was "omg my mouth is so numb" and my ears started ringing so loudly. Then I woke up in the middle of them wheeling me into the recovery room. It was honestly an incredible experience for the first time! Everyone is different and has had different experiences, but its not as scary as it seems!
I feel your pain ky friend. I too was pumped full of that stuff to get my ingrown tonials fixed. They didn't ask me any questions, I remember the silence of an utter darkness, completely imobile, subconsciously aware of everything around me, but completely helpless to wake up, move, think or speak. A fate even worse, then death itself. Terrifying in't it?
I have been under anesthesia 5 times in my life and my biggest complaint was that I didn't like the concept of being "here" one minute and then being "out" the next. It's a control issue with me and I would be just ridden with anxiety. So the last 3 times, I have asked my anesthesiologist to give me just a little bit of the drug(s) in the IV so that I can feel the effect but not be knocked out immediately. Each of them probably thinks I am nuts but they have graciously done it. I went in for major surgery last month and the conversation went like this: Anesthesiologist: "Okay...here is just a little bit of the first drug. Do you feel it?" Me: "Oh geez that feels so good." (And it DID!) Anesthesiologist: "Okay...here is just a bit more." Me: "Okay, I am going to sleep now....goodnight!" Next thing I remember: I'm in the recovery room. I have absolutely no fear of anesthesia anymore.
Not quite the same, but I asked the dentist not to give me laughing gas, and I felt so much better during the process. It was scary having the anxiety boost that laughing gas gives. I don't know why people like that feeling. I assume it's because that's what being drunk or high is like, and normal people enjoy drugs and beer.
When I had surgery Last thing I remember being given an oxygen mask and giving the injection and talking about what I want to do at college to distract me it worked then I said I feel funny coz they were putting the anaesthetic and that was it. Then everything went black and then next thing I knew I woke up in recovery unit For anyone who is having surgery with general anaesthetic top tip DONT worry I was very anxious but the part that worried me was falling asleep against my will I felt nothing Don’t be afraid.
@@aestheticb7843 so the anesthesia isnt that bad bc I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed next month 😤🤐 and im gonna get anesthesia. So like u go to sleep then about 10 or 20 seconds later u wake back up again?
Wolf 0857 A few months ago I had four of my teeth removed! The anaesthetic itself isn’t that bad no, but 20 seconds?? The procedure can last anything from 20-40 minutes! But if you mean how does it feel, it’s like sleeping, you wake up the instant after even if it’s been 8 hours. I would say for me it was tricky to wake up as my eyes just refused to open, but after 5 minutes you can fully wake up. After the procedure I suggest taking paracetamol and ibuprofen often to help keep the pain away, however I’m sure your doctors will tell you all of that. If the anaesthetic makes you feel drowsy, just go home and sleep it off, after a day or two you go back to normal. Hope that helped!!
I just had spinal surgery if you are afraid don’t be I know it’s hard not to be but I felt like I blink end my eyes and woke up pain free surgery was done I had full control what I could and couldn’t say. I live in Australia we are a small country but have the best doctors in the world . To the people reading this and are under a lot of stress about to go in to surgery just know god loves you and it is pain free with this amazing drug that humankind has created
I went in the O.R saying I’m on my way to bikini Bahamas lol than they put the gas mask and I was out like a light 😴. I have learned to have great respect for the medical field
I used to be terrified but after my second operation yesterday I’m fine! The feelings really strange. I felt a cold sensation go up my arm and before I knew it I woke up in the exact same room asking when my operation was going to start, LOL!
Yess the first time I got put under I felt cold run through me and then I don’t remember after that lol. I remember starting to panic and then just passed out
I recently had three ops under full anaesthetic in Poole and Salisbury hospital, UK. All went well. Having also had full anaesthesia in Germany when I woke up feeling very twitchy and bad and then once in Switzerland when I woke up feeling very very tired, I can only praise the NHS for giving me something that made me feel great and cheerful when I woke up.
Just had a surgery under general Anastasia. I was scared as shit. The thought that I have to hand over my breathing to someone, is absolutely terrifying. But in the end I woke up before I even realized that I'm going to sleep.
I have undergone ECT under anesthesia for over a year am so grateful for its use. I also get endoscopy 2 times as well as bladder surgery every 3 months bless you wonderful doctors
If you’re nervous about going under ask your doctor for a dose of Ativan to take before you go. I asked the anesthesiologist beforehand and they actually recommended it. I was totally calm the whole time.
I had surgery yesterday and went under general anesthesia for the first time. I was nervous, anxious any and everything in between. I have had two other surgeries but was in twilight sedation., fully awoke and aware of what was going on. My surgery yesterday I remember going in and them placing a mask on me, and that is it. I had a tube placed in for breathing and the hurts like hell. Worse than a sore throat but feels alot better today. They told me about three or four times to take a deep breath in the recovery room because my oxygen was dropping. I was going back to sleep. I remember them saying wake up and breathe. I said I’m awake my eyes just shut. They would not allow me to rub my eyes, not sure why. I think I was in surgery two hrs, I don’t know nor do I remember dreaming. I’m glad I got it over with and pick yesterday to have surgery, instead of today. My surgery was done here on base in Japan. Just pray or meditate before having surgery to calm your mind and relax your body. I thought with all the anxiety I was experiencing my blood pressure would be up but it wasn’t at all, oh and we had a 5.2 earthquake before my surgery. I asked the doctor we’re we rescheduling he stated unless a tsunami was coming. Not funny we were stationed in Misawa, Japan 2011 earthquake…
Some doctors know that their patients are scared and are comforting and just have way of making the process of going under general anesthesia a whole lot easier
I was terrified before my surgery due to the general anesthesia, and it was so scary but then when doctor was talking to me he told me you will feel sleepy now and you will love it, and that's what I remember, I woke up and felt like it I was 1 second, don't be scared guys trust me, it's not scary at all
@@Alis_Grave_Nil You don't feel the tube being removed and like a really nice deep sleep...I was tired but I'd being in labor 46 hrs. Honestly it's not that bad x
I went to the hospital today to get laser treatment, but sadly an emergency happened and I was removed from the list. But it has given me time to learn about how this stuff works. Thank you NHS
i was so scared for my surgery, i kept telling them not to kill me and don't let me die on the operating table! they kept saying things will be ok. they moved me to the OR table from my hospital bed, put a warm blanket on me asked me if i was comfy i said kinda yeah, and they said ok we're gonna start your IV now i said ok sounds good. next thing i know i'm waking up 1 second later with a nurse flashing a light in my eyes asking me basic questions. apparently it was a 4 hour operation and went smoothly. 7 total hours between prep and when i woke up. I'm still in total disbelief at the entire process.
2020 feb 14 Just had my first general. I told the doctor to tell me as soon as he injects it. Quickly after i felt a cold gas sensation in my mouth, then a cold pins and needles sensation through my chest, i told the doctor what i was feeling as it happened and that was the last thing i remember. Was out for around 45 mins (wisdom teeth). Woke up feeling great.
I had eye surgery in February before the lock down. Fantastic anaesthetic, enjoyed the whole experience plus the added bonus of being able to see properly.
@@EmmaDavies-l2g I had squint surgery to correct double vision. 4 years later and still all good. Best wishes for your surgery, it’s amazing what they can do, I’m sure you’ll be fine and enjoy good vision 👍😊
Had my first time under anesthetic, was nervous af, but was so relaxing, u don't even know that u passing out and wake up fresh. My follow up procedure I felt very sleepy afterwardz
I'm due to go under general anesthesia for a small surgery. So this is quite the comfort for me :) Also, a tiny bit of curiosity when it comes to medical sciences
It’s like the deepest sleep you’ll ever experience. Total black out. But you’ll feel extremely lethargic for the first few hours after you wake up. It does get better.
I had surgery on my eyelid to remove a cyst in Apr 2022. When they gave me the general anaesthetic, it felt like I was a chipmunk with squirrels in my cheeks and I had this buzzing-like sensation in my ears. The nurse held my hand until I fell asleep. Woke up in recovery and everything went really well. Honestly, not scary at all and really good sleep 10/10.
They told me they were giving me something to ease my anxiety - next thing I remember is waking up in recovery. I was having major panic attacks about it but now I don't know why I was so worried. Its strange waking up because you don't remember going to sleep. You'll be fine!!
@@bodiewagoner7344 I had surgery yesterday (7th September 2021) its my first ever surgery, never even broke a bone. I was absolutely terrified. But there's no reason to be. I honestly do not remember the exact moment I "drifted off". I remember being in the room and them being very nice trying to calm me down next thing I remember is waking up. It's very strange. Feels like 30 seconds have passed, but you look at the clock and it's been hours. And if you're worried about "awareness" during surgery then don't be, there's only one anastasia that you MIGHT be aware in (for a brief second) and it's probably not the one you're having. You will be absolutely 100 % fine I promise you. There's someone in theatre solely to look after you, make sure you're fully asleep, not feeling pain ect.. that's their literal job.
From a retired anesthetist be relieved you’re getting general anesthesia with an airway inserted. Many practitioners lie these days and say you are just getting sedation. Frequently the sedation gets stronger and stronger until your airway is inadequate and there is a problem without an airway inserted. If you have an eye surgeon that requires deep sedation it is better to start with general anesthesia and an LMA airway. It is safer with less chance of you being disoriented and wanting to “help”the surgeon. With reasonable health do not be afraid of general anesthesia. Be afraid of deep sedation without an airway.
@@Tiffanysopretty88 Exactly. I've placed over 10,000 endotracheal airways and 2 or 3000 laryngeal mask airways with no residual problems. Occasional sore throat that goes away the next day. And I'm proud to say never chipped a tooth.
@@Emalee87 That is normal. Valium or now Versed is used as a tranquilizer. It makes you amnesic. You may have hurt but you don't remember it. Small doses of fentanyl are frequently added to this and relieves some pain. The problem is where there is extreme pain and more and more drugs are required. In that situation more local is what you need and not more drugs. Again with deep sedation you may not maintain a clear airway. Professionals are trained to manage this but it increases the risk.
I had surgery and went under anaesthetic, people are so scared of it and so was I buy honestly it’s a nice feeling they talk to you and ask questions, for me it was what I got for Christmas but I couldn’t remember and this is where the drugs kick in, bear in mind I had this surgery on the 27th! I couldn’t focus and I soon fell asleep throughout the whole surgery it was like one big sleep no pain, well there is afterwards but yeah :)
It is amazing. I’ve had two abdominal surgeries. Wheel me in into the surgery room, I scoot on table, the mask goes on, the meds go into the iv and I wake up in recovery.
I just had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and went under general. It was pretty cool. As they rolled me to the OR they injected something in my IV to “take the edge off”. I remember them moving me to the table. I remember looking at the 2 lights above me then over at the table with a bunch of shiny instruments. They put a mask on my face and said it was oxygen. I don’t think I counted to 3 before I was out! Next thing I know I hear someone call my name and I wake up in the PACU 3 1/2 hours later dreaming about work saying I like my job. Pretty cool experience.
I literally just had it a couple of hours ago and I was crying and panicking so much saying I don’t wanna be out to sleep I want to reschedule and then I’m waking up literally don’t know why I was so scared it was the best thing ever.
Had my surgery on 14 August. When the anesthesia kicked in I knew I was going to fall asleep. I said the doctors I was dizzy and boom I woke up 2hrs later. My through was sore because of the oxygen pipe. When I woke up I had 2 things on my mind constantly running, Vegeta's screams and I missed my younger brother for no reason. I was screaming my brother's name loudly for 10 mins and then slowly the affect was waring off. My dad caught a video of it and we both laughed watching at it an hour later.
Received ACL repair and a meniscectomy. Bro, I didn’t even know they put me out. I didn’t even realize I was out, lol. It was the best sleep ever. All I remember was being transferred to the surgical bed, and bam. I woke up in recovery. My nurse told me that when I woke up initially, I was laughing non stop and kept saying “I didn’t know that I was out”. She said I made everyone laugh, lol! Then, she said I went back to sleep for about 30 minutes. the entire thing was interesting to say the least. I wasn’t afraid while under for one second. It was just a really deep, peaceful sleep. NOW, recovery on the other hand... that’s been the worst part of this whole ordeal.
Heck the anesthesia was nothing was all stressed out. Went in OR they got me all set up gave me oxygen and the drip and said go to your happy place, all went black and woke up in recovery about an hour later 😌
Had anesthesia for a c section. I just remember him put the mask over my nose and mouth asking what I felt. I told him, it just feels kinda hard to breathe, and he was like yeah that’s normal. It honestly felt like a blink No dreams. No time Im between. Nothing! Just blink And I woke up in the recovery room!
I was awake with all 3 c sections you must didn’t want to be awake now I’ve never been sedated in my life and I suppose to have this procedure done in a few months and I have to be put under I’m like ugh I wish this was like haven a ce section to where you can be awake
I just had my first surgery. Before the procedure they gave me some pills to make me sleepy and I actually fell asleep in my hospital room. After I woke up I asked when will the operation start and they told me it was already over. Strange is that they told me I was awake when I went to the OR, but I don’t remember anything about the surgery .Cool experience.
It’s so crazy because I went unconscious in an instant. The doctor told me to take 4 big deep breaths I remember taking 3 deep breaths and then waking up to a talking saying something to me.
I've been under 10 times in my life; it was on my 6th go I discovered propofol triggers my anxiety. Pretty scary losing consciousness feeling your heart pound out your chest. I think it has something to do with knowing it's coming made worse by feeling the warm-ache of the propofol entering my bloodstream. Ever since that time I've told my anaesthesiologist and asked for the clear stuff instead of the white stuff. Last 3 times I've had the same guy and each time he gave me a tiny shot of something before the IV was attached propper and each time it felt like he poured an entire bottle of whiskey directly into my brain... Instant relaxation; it'd be great if that wasn't immediately followed by my brain forgetting for to work and everything going dark within 5 seconds. Whatever that stuff was, it must have been some "whale tranquiliser level shit".
I hate that feeling the last time they put the anesthesia my hears were ringing and I felt like my body was shutting.down quick I felt like I was dying and now I need a gallbladder removed and I'm scared
It’s terrible , and all my respect for those kind of people , yesterday I got a general anesthesia to get varicocele veins removed from my testicular , it was amazing ! Thank you lord and all doctors
It was insane. Just before the world has gone completely tragic chaos, I too have a surgery on Valentine's Day 2020. An cyst surgery to remove slow growing cyst on my back, must be fell too much on the floor (trauma), a reason for cyst to slow growing on my back. It was a painkilling needle and even sleeping needle which part of the reason I fell asleep while the doctors removed the cyst and then, I woke up in the surgery room and I felt fine and now, I'll wait until the pesky slow-growing cyst on my front arm thanks for slammed the wall many times (trauma)
I'm having surgery next week, I'm a little nervous about going under but at the same time I'm excited coz I'm a chronic insomniac and this might be the best sleep I ever have lol
Been under several times..no worries..but the last surgery for rotator cuff shoulder surgery they put the mask over my face and I kinda freaked out..the dr told the anathesiologist to lay it in my chest until I was out..that did the trick..probably less than a minute later.
They gave me a gas before the Iv and I’m not a crackhead or anything but that was the best damn feeling in this world, but now I have some hearing loss and pain in my ear after I woke up
In case anyone finds my comment, just wanna come back and say I had my surgery and everything was perfectly fine. The IV injection hurt but once it was in, everything went fine! Honestly, it sounds way more scarier than it is. I wouldn’t be nervous to have surgery again.
I had general anesthetic today and i remember when i felt the fluid entering my vein saying ill pass out shortly won't i and i received a oh yes you will and then i woke up in recovery room like seconds late but one hour and ten minutes had passed. Felt wonderful and surreal also
I get Nervous when they start a iv but all be going to have surgery in apple valley hospital in California at Victor Valley hospital but the part when they put you to sleep you are out
First time I went under was when I was in the oral surgeon's office to get my wisdom teeth removed, and I kind of panicked and was kicking as i went under, but it went fine and no problem or issues waking up. I've been under at least 5 times since, never had a problem going under. But apparently I am thrashy on waking up (before i'm fully conscious). No other issues (nausea, etc). Going under again next Tuesday.
Steps: 1) Attach monitoring devices for vital signs (pulse oximetry, ECG, blood pressure cuff) 2) IV cannulation 3) pre oxygenation 4) administration of opioid analgesics (usually fentanyl), induction agent (propofol or thiopentone), muscle relaxant (usually suxa or trachium, or rocuronium) 5) intubation (could be ETT or LMA, or other less common types depending in the nature of surgery) 6) check for correct placement, bag-mask then switch to bellow/mechanical ventilation. Voila !
I had a round 7 to 8 operations in my eyes my first option was when I was 8 second on with when I was 10 then when I was 11 years old I had 3 operations in my eye in 3 days and well in December and I was 14 years old now I'm gonna turn 15
I had surgery when I was like 8, but I very clearly remember the moment I went to sleep. I was screaming because I was scared as shit (tried to jump off the table a couple of times), and then as they injected it I started hyperventilating then immediately passed out lol
1:13 u give oxygen gas and we drift off to sleep ?? does giving oxygen gas make u sleepy ??.....my doc said the drug takes 30sec to work so i was eager to count till 30 but i felt asleep immidiately after oxygen mask ...i was able to see them start the anesthetic drug ...but i could even remeber till the fully injected it
I’ve been under GA thrice, I was never anxious tbh. I was scared of the cannula tho lol. All I remember is that all the three times they injected something through the cannula and told me to take deep breathes into the mask and then I would wake up in the post operative room. It’s like you time travel haha. It’s a different type of sleep. i’ve always woken up not tired just very drowsy. Anyone who’s going to be under GA, don’t worry about anything, it’s just gonna feel like a second passed and you’ve woken up!
lol yea guys it’s not that bad at all honestly I had surgery done a week ago and the guy was like so what beach do you like ? I was like I like uhhhhh knocked out instantly! And when I woke up I felt calm and confused but it goes away as the time goes by when it hits you feel this crazy warm sensation lol your body is like wait what’s going on and boom! Instant clean knock out ! Y’all got this.
first surgery i remember talking about disabled goats i saw on holiday a few weeks before and they gave me gas and air to relax me since i never had a cannula in before. third surgery was the same year infinity war came out, and the anaesthesia was feeling worse than usual and i was feeling so much pain in my head like i was hungover, and last thing i remember saying to my mum was “i don’t wanna go, i don’t wanna do it”.
I have had this, not for eye surgery, but for open heart surgery. I literally do not remember anything from when they wheeled me in to when I woke up. I woke up confused as fuck, I actually had to have someone push me back into bed lol I was so confused. I'm having to have this done in about 4 weeks for a heart prodcedure. I can't say I'm looking forward to it again. But it literally is dreamless sleep

Does the feeling of drifting not scare you though??????
Thank you!
Thank you, I think it's the control for me that's making me so anxious 😟
the greatest progress in medicine in the last 50 years is anaesthetics
Amazing what the human body can endure.
When I had surgery Last thing I remember being given an oxygen mask and giving the injection and talking about what I want to do at college to distract me it worked then I said I feel funny coz they were putting the anaesthetic and that was it. Then everything went black and then next thing I knew I woke up in recovery unit For anyone who is having surgery with general anaesthetic top tip DONT worry I was very anxious but the part that worried me was falling asleep against my will I felt nothing
Don’t be afraid.
I started having a panic attack because I felt very cold but it lasted literally for like 10 seconds because I passed out after that😂
@@aestheticb7843 so the anesthesia isnt that bad bc I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed next month 😤🤐 and im gonna get anesthesia.
@@aestheticb7843 yeah ik the procedure will take like 45 mins to 1 hour and yeah I think that helped thanks 😊

I have had general anesthetic over 25 times. Many, many surgeries. Doing great too!
I have had many twilight sedation. Jsut had my first GA today, but I didn't realise. I had a very sore throat from the breathing tube. Is this common?

I was terrified before my surgery due to the general anesthesia, and it was so scary but then when doctor was talking to me he told me you will feel sleepy now and you will love it, and that's what I remember, I woke up and felt like it I was 1 second, don't be scared guys trust me, it's not scary at all

i was so scared for my surgery, i kept telling them not to kill me and don't let me die on the operating table! they kept saying things will be ok. they moved me to the OR table from my hospital bed, put a warm blanket on me asked me if i was comfy i said kinda yeah, and they said ok we're gonna start your IV now i said ok sounds good. next thing i know i'm waking up 1 second later with a nurse flashing a light in my eyes asking me basic questions. apparently it was a 4 hour operation and went smoothly. 7 total hours between prep and when i woke up. I'm still in total disbelief at the entire process.

Just had my first general. I told the doctor to tell me as soon as he injects it. Quickly after i felt a cold gas sensation in my mouth, then a cold pins and needles sensation through my chest, i told the doctor what i was feeling as it happened and that was the last thing i remember.
I had my wisdom teeth removed without an airway...😩 thats normal right?
My stuff So being intubated is a good thing it’s like a safety precaution???

I had eye surgery on both my eyes once it was the first time I was blind for 4 weeks it was so dark and boring
Steps:
1) Attach monitoring devices for vital signs (pulse oximetry, ECG, blood pressure cuff)
2) IV cannulation
3) pre oxygenation
4) administration of opioid analgesics (usually fentanyl), induction agent (propofol or thiopentone), muscle relaxant (usually suxa or trachium, or rocuronium)
5) intubation (could be ETT or LMA, or other less common types depending in the nature of surgery)
6) check for correct placement, bag-mask then switch to bellow/mechanical ventilation.
Voila !
I had a round 7 to 8 operations in my eyes my first option was when I was 8 second on with when I was 10 then when I was 11 years old I had 3 operations in my eye in 3 days and well in December and I was 14 years old now I'm gonna turn 15

Hi Denise, thanks for the amazing comment. We always aim to deliver a caring and excellent service to all.
@@moorfieldseye its okay you all go out of your way for your patients including myself you all deserve better recognition for the outstanding effort that goes into the patients at moorfields
The NHS is amazing in general. Without them I wouldn't be alive. I know this is an unrelated procedure I have had but I've been through it. Its scary but NHS surgeons/doctors/etc really do look after you
In 2015. Went to Duke for unexpected brain surgery. Some 3rd or 4th year resident Anesthesiologist didn’t know what the hell they were doing. They said, I woke up and pulled my halo off before they went into my skull. They still did the surgery. All kinds of bad stuff went on down there. Totally inept. The Lord saved me and restored me hands down. Don’t go to Duke PERIOD!
