The fact that the kobo libra color is cheaper AND it’s a color option with buttons on the side makes it a huge improvement over kindle right now, now that they don’t have an oasis version. I have a paperwhite that works just fine so I don’t think I’ll be upgrading until that kicks the dust and I’m way too in love with my kobo to consider these new kindles, especially at those insane price points.
I’ll stay with my Kindle Paperwhite Signature Ed. The Colorsoft for $80 more is not worth upgrading. I only read novels, so the color aspect is not important to me. I love the basic Kindle Matcha color, but I don’t need 2 kindles. I think lineup is great for people who have never had a Kindle or have a very old kindle and want to upgrade. Great Video!

So it’s not worth the price just for the sake of the covers being in colour. I’ll wait for a few years till the tech gets better. But my 10th gen kindle is STRUGGLING. so I ordered the new paper white in jade! Excited for warm light, c por and better speed and battery!
I was hoping for an updated Kindle Oasis. Maybe one with USB C or wireless charging, faster page turns, or bigger screen. However, Amazon has been improving their basic, signature, and scribe models over the years to the point that they were competitive and sometime superior to the Oasis in terms of features and price. I’ve had nearly every Kindle version since the beginning (except the Voyage and the Scribe) and I’m staying with my Kindle Oasis because of the page turn buttons and the auto rotation. Color would be nice for book covers and for maps, charts and graphs but pale colors don’t replace the value of the page turn buttons and the auto rotation when I can use my iPad and iPhone to see bright and vivid color. When e-ink gets to the point of producing bright colors I then might upgrade but I don’t see that happening any time soon on any e-book reader.
I have a Kindle Oasis. I am trying to hold on to that and keep it working until Amazon makes something like it again. I do like the new Kindle Colorsoft but I still want to hold out.
Contrast is awful in the colorsoft, no matter what do you want to read/watch on it, the black color looks washed compared to the other versions. Even as Paperwhite owner i feel like paying for 0.2 extra inches, ist not worth the money.
I have the Kindle Basic 2019 & the Paperwhite Signature I got about a year ago. I was gifted the Libra 2 Colour. Honestly the only appeal for Kindle Color would be if you use Amazon ecosystem & Kindle Unlimited. At least with the Libra Colour you can buy a stylus (and it can be an off brand from wherever as long as it’s compatible) and have a mini scribe for less money

Looking at the comments, how come so many people like the physical buttons? I like the paperwhite and it doesnt have buttons and its not an issue for me, so im curious on the reasoning for it?
When asked about the kindle oasis, Amazon told the Verge that they are no longer adding page turn buttons to their kindle line moving forward because their customers prefer touchscreen over physical buttons.
Same here, got the Boox go 7 colour, amazing, smaller form factor, has page turning buttons that work with the kindle app, comes with cover included in the price and cheaper. The kindle colour still need to include the price of a cover
Do I need it? No. Is it overpriced? Yes. Am I going to purchase the Colorsoft anyways? Oh absolutely. Amazon has me right where they want me in their ecosystem, and I'm taking the bait with the color display. Can't wait to get this day 1, already pre-ordered!

Kindle basic not having warm light or water resistance is a disappointing. I wanted a small fast ereader so the basic was the only new kindle that interested me since they ditched the oasis and page turn buttons. Sticking with my kobo libra 2 and clara be it seems.
Just got the new 2024 Kindle Paperwhite Signature and I have to say it's a great device but the new "Metallic" coating is a negative. While it looks nice it removes the "soft touch" of the back and turns it into a slippery, plastic like mess so it demands being put in a case. While I normally use a case there are situations in the past where I haven't, but with this new Kindle I'll have to reconsider that. I strongly recommend considering the normal Paperwhite (even if you have to pay to remove ads) vs. the Signature if you are the type of person who normally doesn't use a case.
Have never owned a Kindle but very interested in the Paperwhite. Love that you explained the differences instead of showing the graphic on the Amazon page and just reading it to us. I'm probably going to hold off on ordering till after I hear all the reviews.
I preordered the Colorsoft on release day! I’ve come so close to ordering a color Kobo but I do a lot of kindle unlimited reading so that stopped me. So I’m excited. I did read a hands on tech review that addressed some of the issues you mentioned. I understand that the color won’t be saturated so I’m fine with that. I'm sticking with my existing Paperwhite Signature and my Kindle Basic (2022). They work GREAT. Amazon did not release what I was hoping for and probably the only thing that would have gotten me to pull the trigger, which is a Kobo Libra Colour equivalent (with palm detection though). I want to be able to write directly on my books. And I'm not spending $500 to do it. So, I'll stick with what I've got. Love to see that they are keeping eReaders alive, however, because they are my preferred way of reading now.
In my eyes I might consider the new kindle scribe for uni (I think it’s potentially worth it with the storage) or the kindle paperwhite. just for the amazon ecosystem that I do have, and the kobo libra color for mainly personal use/uni.
My Kindle Paperwhite is nine years old and I’ve been planning on upgrading soon. I’m tempted now by the Basic though as I really like the matcha color.
Also to add to my comment. I usually have my kindle in a case of some kind. The color of the kindle itself should not matter a whole lot to me., but this time it kinda does....idk why. Maybe I want the option to read without a case because it's lighter and comfy. So the black is so unappealing to me at least.
I have the 11th Gen Paperwhite Signature and the only thing that might compel me to replace is if I knew that the lag on typing would improve. I hate trying to type anything into the search on it. I can't wait to see some good comparison videos on these new Kindles. I'm sorry they didn't produce one with dedicated page turn buttons...I am a long time Kindle user, and still get nostogic thinking about my old 2nd gen Kindle. Even with no light, those page turn buttons on both sides were golden. lol Oh--and that toggle switch instead of the push button on the bottom thing that I always hit accidentally.
This is my reasoning for get the new paperwhite. If you look at just the product title, it says that the paper turning is 20% faster. But, if you look on the actual product page where they more fully explain the product, it says 20% faster performance speed. This would include the typing speed as well.

I have the current Paperwhite and the Kindle basic. I've had in the past the previous Paperwhite (2018?), the past Kindle basic and a Kindle Oasis. I love Kindles and have love each one. I am trying to keep my ereaders consumption under control. I tend to get excited when they bring out new ones, but nothing here is really making me want to spend the money to get a slightly updated version. I really end up reading mostly on the Kindle basic. I am really excited that they brought out the color version, not sure why though since I don't read graphic things like Manga. If I am reading a color anything like a magazine, then I usually read it on my Samsung tablet. I think it's just the kid in me that is attracted to bright shiny new things! LOL.
The scribe is the best version of this 4. The color kindle is not worth for the lower resolution, less battery and not really an useful feature with the color since you don't really see the cover a lot and most books don't have colored images.

I didnt like the Kobo color model, it was too hazy and caused headaches, I hope that is not the case with the colorsoft but if it is I have the beautiful raspberry paperwhite as a backup :). I was curious if the kindle covers from your wife's shop will fit the new kindles . I have the ghosty one for my current signature paperwhite but didn't know if the dimensions are the same ? Her shop is the BEST!!

Ok. It’s so funny to me. I predicted a launch a week ago during Prime Days and I missed that. And that is ok. I’ve been thinking about the colorsoft yesterday since its announcement. I’m going to save for it I believe and treat myself for Christmas. I love my paperwhite SE she is almost 2. And I don’t need to get rid of her but I really want to be utilizing my KU subscription including the USA Today and the magazines and I think it would be so nice for that or to start buying e book versions of cookbooks. I’m gonna save for it to treat myself. I’m worth it!

My paperwhite is an older 8th generation and I’ve refused to upgrade until color came out. I paused your video and ordered it immediately. Pretty much my thoughts. Although I’m still undecided on getting a Basic (really love that matcha green but concerned about that recessed screen which must be a dust trap) or a Paperwhite which might end up being too heavy, especially with a case. And given the price of the Paperwhite, it’d be annoying to see a price drop during BF in a little more than a month. I know Amazon always put their kindle on sale for BF but maybe not this time cause they’ve just been released. I don’t know.
I’m going to pass on all the Kindle devices. I would’ve maaaaybe purchased the Kindle color, but I use other apps for manga consumption. So I’ll stick to my iPad Mini. Thanks for your great vids!😊

@@trashpandarabie5972 From my experience Kobo has been ads are far less intrusive and in your face. Plus bigger storage for half the price. You can transfer all the Amazon books over to Kobo but you have to use a third party software named Calibre. Its super easy to use and honestly, in my opinion much better for managing your books. There are many videos on how to use Calibre with Kobo.
I’m with you on liking Kobo more. I just like how I know how many pages are in a chapter and where I am currently at in reading. I also like to know the percentage of the book read, and stats like how long it will take to read.
A step in the right direction. But not enough to make me jump and upgrade my Signature edition. May make me look at a used scribe v1 since the software will be updated.

Hmm… tough to say, as Black Friday is coming up so soon. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but I think it will be unlikely to see the new releases marked down so soon after launch. I would love to be wrong though!
No impressive features at all... Amazon is such a big letdown, tbh... They released the Kindle Basic in matcha color-okay, cool. Then, the Kindle Paperwhite 12th generation with almost the same features as the Kindle Paperwhite 11, and its Signature version with more memory. A colored Kindle similar to the Kobo Clara, but Clara is $180 and the Kindle is $280 😂 With tacky green and raspberry colors, no annotation on the page allowed, no stylus compatibility, and no buttons? Buttons could have sold me since I'm annoyed when my Kindle skips pages with touch and I read spoilers 😤... And don't forget the same boring, overpriced Scribe. Nah, man. I'm getting the Kobo Libra Color.

My 7th gen still works and I don’t see myself upgrading until they offer immersive reading on a kindle. TBH, really disappointed in lack of upgrades and pricing.

I want both of the new paperwhites. I love both of the new colours. I'll have to save up for them. Believe it or not, my current kindle paperwhite 2021 is full. I have about 4 GB storage left, and I don't have a pc right now. Also, about 60% of my books are side loaded, and don't sync to the cloud, so I can't delete them. So yeah, I am saving for the new paperwhites.
The new signature edition Paperwhite IS a buttonless Oasis so it’s gonna be fine. Happened to me on my voyage. Ended up getting a Paperwhite in 2021 didn’t missed the page buttons

I bought the new Kindle Paperwhite Signature. It is hard to find a case which is frustrating. The matching raspberry color fabric case won't be in stock for 5-6 weeks. And I couldn't find a clear case for the 2024 model.
I would dare to say that this is the biggest Kindle release in 2-3 years.... depending on which is "Bigger" the Scribe, or the Color Kindle. I think the Color kindle may do better than the Scribe. P.S. I do love the Scribe though.
So I at first wanted the kindle colorsoft until I heard they were using kleido (I have a KLC) and I’m not impressed. And at the price point I’ll pass. Now thinking I’m just going to get a basic as the matcha is beautiful and basic is at a fair price point😊

I much prefer the Boox go 7, has page turning buttons and more compact. Prefer this over my Paperwhite, as its a 7" screen in smaller form factor and looks more premium. Looks like maybe the new kindle look cheap build quality like the kobo, and not the usual kindle premium feel. No buttons for the colour kindle and looking cheap is so disappointing

Kobo Libra Colour for the win!... Amazon just solidified the value of my choice to move on from Kindle.

I think the Active Canvas is a pretty clever solution to the word flow problems other readers have.

The kindle colorsoft uses the same color e-ink tech as the kobo color line. Amazon did tweak the lighting so that the screen is evenly lit for color.

Ok. It’s so funny to me. I predicted a launch a week ago during Prime Days and I missed that. And that is ok. I’ve been thinking about the colorsoft yesterday since its announcement. I’m going to save for it I believe and treat myself for Christmas. I love my paperwhite SE she is almost 2. And I don’t need to get rid of her but I really want to be utilizing my KU subscription including the USA Today and the magazines and I think it would be so nice for that or to start buying e book versions of cookbooks.
I’m gonna save for it to treat myself.

I thought I would want the color Kindle, but I don't think I want it at that price. I do like the new pink Paperwhite, but I already have a fairly new one.

I didn’t know it released until I just saw your video. I almost screamed! I’ve been waiting YEARS for a color kindle. My paperwhite is an older 8th generation and I’ve refused to upgrade until color came out. I paused your video and ordered it immediately. In hindsight, I’m wondering if I should wait a month and see if there’s a Black Friday deal for it. Maybe I’ll cancel and wait a bit longer. Thoughts?
Pretty much my thoughts. Although I’m still undecided on getting a Basic (really love that matcha green but concerned about that recessed screen which must be a dust trap) or a Paperwhite which might end up being too heavy, especially with a case.
And given the price of the Paperwhite, it’d be annoying to see a price drop during BF in a little more than a month.
I know Amazon always put their kindle on sale for BF but maybe not this time cause they’ve just been released. I don’t know.

I’m going to pass on all the Kindle devices. I would’ve maaaaybe purchased the Kindle color, but I use other apps for manga consumption. So I’ll stick to my iPad Mini. Thanks for your great vids!😊

I have ppw gen 11 8g and i traded it with the new ppw 16g in jade, ad free..it cost me $ 124.00..arrives on oct 21... I'm pumped!

Agreed! At this point, I’m not sure that any of the upgrades justify upgrading. Unless you really, really like green or pink haha
Just curious; why do you prefer Kobo? I have way too many books from Amazon and I don’t think they would transfer.

@@trashpandarabie5972 From my experience Kobo has been ads are far less intrusive and in your face. Plus bigger storage for half the price. You can transfer all the Amazon books over to Kobo but you have to use a third party software named Calibre. Its super easy to use and honestly, in my opinion much better for managing your books. There are many videos on how to use Calibre with Kobo.
I’m with you on liking Kobo more. I just like how I know how many pages are in a chapter and where I am currently at in reading. I also like to know the percentage of the book read, and stats like how long it will take to read.
A step in the right direction. But not enough to make me jump and upgrade my Signature edition. May make me look at a used scribe v1 since the software will be updated.

Hmm… tough to say, as Black Friday is coming up so soon. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but I think it will be unlikely to see the new releases marked down so soon after launch. I would love to be wrong though!
Is the kindle coloursoft the same size as the kindle paper white gen 11? Or will I need a new case for the coloursoft

Amazon is such a big letdown, tbh...
They released the Kindle Basic in matcha color-okay, cool. Then, the Kindle Paperwhite 12th generation with almost the same features as the Kindle Paperwhite 11, and its Signature version with more memory. A colored Kindle similar to the Kobo Clara, but Clara is $180 and the Kindle is $280 😂 With tacky green and raspberry colors, no annotation on the page allowed, no stylus compatibility, and no buttons? Buttons could have sold me since I'm annoyed when my Kindle skips pages with touch and I read spoilers 😤... And don't forget the same boring, overpriced Scribe. Nah, man. I'm getting the Kobo Libra Color.
I traded in my PW SE for the newer baseline PW. Faster, crisper, larger, and green!

I currently have the 21 oasis, and was wondering how the paperwhite signature will compare to it. My oasis doesn’t keep a charge for very long, maybe a week at the most
My 7th gen still works and I don’t see myself upgrading until they offer immersive reading on a kindle. TBH, really disappointed in lack of upgrades and pricing.
Very informative video. Love that Jade color! However, If none of the new kindles allow immersive reading, I’ll just stick to my oasis.. even if the battery life is crappy.

I want both of the new paperwhites. I love both of the new colours. I'll have to save up for them. Believe it or not, my current kindle paperwhite 2021 is full. I have about 4 GB storage left, and I don't have a pc right now. Also, about 60% of my books are side loaded, and don't sync to the cloud, so I can't delete them. So yeah, I am saving for the new paperwhites.

The new signature edition Paperwhite IS a buttonless Oasis so it’s gonna be fine. Happened to me on my voyage. Ended up getting a Paperwhite in 2021 didn’t missed the page buttons
I had my Voyage stolen about then and got a paperwhite; really missed the buttons so ended up with the Oasis

The Apple and Android comparison between Kindle and Kobo is more accurate than ever. Amazon has done nothing new and even removed features people loved (Oasis). Minor updates and new colors?? Lol, no way... especially for the price. 😂
Im sorry not to be that person but the kindle prices are ridiculous, i didnt think it was possible to make the remarkable paper pro look like a reasonable price point but between the prices of the kindle scribe and coloursoft it suddenly feels like a much more affordable choice

I’ve ordered the colour soft, I use a kindle stand and page turner so the buttons that the oasis has doesn’t matter to me I love the kindle scribe I’ve got not enough update for me
I'm going to stick with my 11th Gen paperwhite. The upgrades aren't big enough for me to spend money for them.

I know that kobo does allow you to borrow directly from Libby, yes :)

I bought the new Kindle Paperwhite Signature. It is hard to find a case which is frustrating. The matching raspberry color fabric case won't be in stock for 5-6 weeks. And I couldn't find a clear case for the 2024 model.
I would dare to say that this is the biggest Kindle release in 2-3 years.... depending on which is "Bigger" the Scribe, or the Color Kindle. I think the Color kindle may do better than the Scribe.
P.S. I do love the Scribe though.

So I at first wanted the kindle colorsoft until I heard they were using kleido (I have a KLC) and I’m not impressed. And at the price point I’ll pass. Now thinking I’m just going to get a basic as the matcha is beautiful and basic is at a fair price point😊

I much prefer the Boox go 7, has page turning buttons and more compact. Prefer this over my Paperwhite, as its a 7" screen in smaller form factor and looks more premium. Looks like maybe the new kindle look cheap build quality like the kobo, and not the usual kindle premium feel. No buttons for the colour kindle and looking cheap is so disappointing

I have never used a Kindle. I prefer books as how they are, but I am thinking of maybe getting a kindle, but seeing how these new kindles might be an another factor.
Get a Kobo Libra Colour. It’s worth it.
What a horrible review! No clear dissemination of info regarding what changed from previous edition.
I don’t feel compelled to upgrade to color. I wouldn’t gain much. I’d only get the color book cover (which I would love). I don’t highlight so no need to have 5 colors and I don’t read manga and comics so 🤷🏻♀️ not worth it for the cost. 🫤
