I feel like this isn't talked about enough. Those who have a uterus, are forced to go through this every month regardless of how stressful their lives are. It messes with us physically, mentally, and emotionally and it puts us at a significant disadvantage. We are forced to overcome to appear strong for ourselves, work, and society. Yet those that bring life into this world are still universally mocked for being weak and melodramatic. Huh, what's up with that. Anyway, thank you for this informative video, it actually made me feel a lot less guilty about my cycle.
Tracking my period from month to month in my journal was a game changer. Particularly marking ahead of time the days that I’d be PMS-ing (the week before a period) would be when energy is at lowest and anxiety levels would increase - this was when I knew to be kinder to myself.
Thought I was the only one having changes in productivity and moods the week before my period. Glad to know it's normal. Let me start tracking this and incorporating it in my plans
Lol I wrote down my Autumn time period for the rest of the year and wrote "Avoid people if possible / Don't go socualize...stay home read books, journal, Process your emotions
This! This is why representation matters. This sector of RUclips is so male dominated that fully expected this topic to never be breached for any reason ever. Im so happy I was wrong, im sure this will help so so so many people.
For my girlies who are in school, Uni, or studying on your own I'd suggest that during menstruation, you get into revising instead and slowly look back at what you've done instead of tackling the anxiety of learning a new lesson on your own❤. Or you could start doing anything you've left behind and use that time to catch up on things that you procrastinated doing, make your study space comfortable and silent, grab a good cup of herbal tea, and take it slow. Taking breaks at this time is crucial, so taking naps in between and taking in moments to just sit in silence helps ease anxiety from brewing.
I have ADHD, so around my cycle I always notice a major fluctuation of my symptoms. I usually end up getting even lower levels of motivation and my ability to focus becomes increasingly impaired. It feels like a persistent brain fog. It's really interesting to learn how your hormones can affect all these things. Thank you for all the advice ❤ P.S. loving the new face to face video style!
@@terapia.desenredada I find I crave more sugar and meat during those days because they provide your brain with more dopamine. I haven't tried whole foods, but I'll give it a go! Thanks for the suggestion.
I find during the PMS days I am really good with physical work, but not mental work. Reorganizing by myself and hauling boxes around really helps with being annoyed and anxious.
Bleh when I'm on my period, I never feel like working. Like for the first two days even if my cramps aren't that bad, when I sit down to work, I'm just very frustrated and unmotivated and I go back to bed and cry....😔 and then I feel guilty :')

Yes. THIS! This is so important. I have PMDD and it is devastating. My cycle literally disrupts my entire life because of the condition. Thankfully the implant has helped improve my symptoms and self awareness and tracking has helped me build a better schedule. (L-GABA vitamins have really helped me, too.) I feel like there are so few people talking about the menstrual cycle’s impact on everyday life and work. Thank you so much, Mariana! This is wonderful and so so important to talk about. 💫
Hello! I hope you are doing okay. If you do not mind, I want to ask you a question. I have something so similar wherein before my periods arrive, I become extremely depressed and anxious to even get up from my bed, it rips me apart inside and gets in the way of my life. Before it was not like this but it slowly started picking up and now it happens almost regularly in almost all my cycles. I went to the psychiatrist but he said I do not have it but that was when it did not happen in every cycle. I feel terrible and I have no idea what to do. Does my situation sound similar to yours?
Thank you for discussing this topic. I have never seen any other productivity youtuber ever doing this before. That time of the month affects me so much I could take about a week to get through it. During this time I hardly get anything done. Because of it I get guilty feelings of having "wasted" precious time.
Congratulations, Mariana, for talking about period and the fluctuations it can bring to your motivation and work productivity. I think you're the first I've seen touching this issue here in YT.
This is a really relevant point and aspect of the productivity community!! Thank you for making the video and putting the effort to show the different sides to productivity.
Thanks Mariana. I am having my period right now and I feel every period is really different because I am not the same person every month. What I always notice is that I need time for myself and I want to be alone during my periods. As women, we don’t talk enough about our periods. I use two apps to track my period and one has a forum to chat, I noticed that a lot of women don’t know how their cervical fluid changes through their cycles or even to recognize when they’re ovulating. It’s really sad and I believe it’s everything connected to our patriarchal society. I wish we all have off days during our periods and we have conversations about our cycles like we can learn a lot about of ourselves if we can pay attention to our cycles.
My periods are irregular, it’s a trait that runs in my family. But when I do get my period? It’s horrid. Combined with my ADHD, I have no motivation or focus. I get pretty much all the symptoms and I always have very heavy bleeding. Im a productive person, and I put a lot of value of my self worth into what I get done so it has really been hurting when I get my period. Yet, I get no support from school or society in general because Women’s health is overlooked. I’m very grateful for this video, us Women (and people with uteruses) need to help each other.
This is SUCH an important conversation to have, I've never had the opportunity and yet I find I have to adapt my academic and PHD calendar to my cycle. I've felt so lonely for so long in what I perceived as incompetence... Wow, thank you, I didn't expect to get this much relief just from hearing you talk about it!
It is not only your productivity, it is also about your mental stability. When you are few days ahead of a period you can notice that you react on same things quite different, so I would recommend to reduce communications with people beside of absolutely essential.
Thank you for taking about this important topic. During my cycle, I usually go through a depressive episode. This video reminded me that I shouldn't guilt myself over my lack of productivity during that episode!

Thank you so much! Even tho I'm on birth control every day (where I don't really get periods monthly) I still feel waves of being way more confident and then way less motivated/more stressed throughout the month. It sucks that to some extent, we won't ever be able to be productive 100% of the time, but it's good info to know about hormones and how they're affecting us.
@5:03 "a little bit more moody"... GIRL... It can be extreme! I'm ashamed of my emotional symptoms, bc I'm universally expected to always be ready to supply others with positivity, optimism, and maximum contribution at all times. Physical productivity AND emotional stability are critical components of my worth as a human (to myself and others). Videos like this are important to educate and validate the effects of menstrual cycles - emotions are not mythical and they take effort to control. I'm sick of feeling the need to minimize or understate my feelings - we all should know, it's OK to be truthful and not deny the weight of our symptoms...... it's up to the GREAT CYCLE... and yeah, I'm feeling it today :P

Thank you for this video. I am a student, and 12 days before my period (as I enter my luteal phase) I begin to experience extreme lack of concentration and emotional fluctuation. Except, I can’t skip lectures. I can’t avoid my exams that determine my future. This. Is. It! Unfortunately, I’ve bombed exams before due to these hormonal changes. How do I even explain that? I am struggling to cope. In fact, I don’t know how! But, I am trying.
I've been looking into this subject lately. Please do a video or give me links on "carbs and my cycle" as I'm thinking that you could adjust your diet to boost your motivation on the days your cycle is slowing you down... Any thoughts on this subject would be helpful... I know you are not a medical person, but with all the research that you have done... I'm thinking that you might have some thoughts. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. 😷
I right down some rules about how for the first two days on my period I can be more light with my work and allow myself some guilty pleasures so when I'm on my period when I'm at home I read this and don't feel guilty and just allow myself to just be. Also my partner usually steps up during those times

If I do exercises for 3 weeks then my cycle hits I don't continue doing it after the cycle. Which makes me so upset because I am in my lazy state.
Thisss
I envy non menstruating folk when it comes to working out because they can go through the whole calendar year uninterrupted. I always lose momentum when shark week comes around argh 😂😭
Hi Mariana's Corner, I like your content. I love watching your videos.
Thank you so much! That’s really important and useful!
Thank you
Thank you for this video.
The struggle is REAL!
Thank you!!!
Thank you for this!!! 👌❤❤
I just want to learn how to focus while on my period, because it's super hard. If i could master that, i feel like things will get better.
I know, right? It's so hard!
Thank you for sharing, very helpful!
I always have way more focus right before my period starts and when I am ovulating.
Thank you that really helped! I needed to hear this
can't study can't focus can't do anything at all and i have 2 exams
She's looking like Nupur Sanon😍
thank u sooo much for this
This was so informative, thank you!! Would you have any tips for what to do if you can't schedule your life around your period and would like to?
I right down some rules about how for the first two days on my period I can be more light with my work and allow myself some guilty pleasures so when I'm on my period when I'm at home I read this and don't feel guilty and just allow myself to just be. Also my partner usually steps up during those times
Thank you so very much 🙏❤️
You're welcome 🤍
Just watching this video to relay information to my female coworkers.
