Welcome back to RBR! Today, we’re diving into the first ever mild Hybrid BMW M cars, and one of the most polarising cars in #BMWM’s lineup - the #BMW #X6M Competition. It’s a car that has divided opinions since its launch, especially among purists. But Munich have always believed in it, in fact the X5M and X6M in the E70 gen were the first-ever xDrive M cars ever! If we look at our Super SUV/Hyper SUV market, the X6 has been the blue print for almost every model on the market today, be it from Porsche, AMG, Lamborghini's Urus, and even the likes of Ferrari’s Purosangue.
Now, with the LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) update, the X6M gets a bold new look and some important tech upgrades, and is also the first ever Hybrid BMW M car. But how does it stack up against rivals like the Cayenne Turbo and Aston Martin DBX 707, which use much more advanced body control tech? Let’s find out.
Under the hood, the X6M still uses a 4.4-litre V8 engine, now with BMW’s 48-volt Mild Hybrid system. The updated engine comes with a cross-bank exhaust manifold, reinforced crankshaft, and new turbocharging, resulting in 625 HP and 750 NM of torque. It hits 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, and outpaces the X5M from 0-124 mph! We will check the launch control, because it's actually much faster.
The mildly electrified eight-speed pairs to a 4WD X drive with a rear-biased power setup for better M like performance. In terms of the rest, it's very much an M5 on stilts. BMW has kept things simple with traditional coil springs and active dampers, instead of using advanced suspension tech like some of its rivals. But the near-actuator wheel slip limitation and speed-sensitive electric power steering have been improved for sharper handling and power delivery.
Inside, the X6M gets a big update. The the latest iDrive 8 system with BMW M's own skin, a refreshed interior design, and a cleaner more minimalist look. You’ll notice updated air vents, ambient lighting with X6M logo, and a sleeker dash with fewer buttons. The larger 14.9-inch touchscreen and advanced driver assistance systems further elevate the driving experience.
Though the X6M loses some practicality compared to the X5M due to its coupe-like roofline, it still offers 27 cubic feet of cargo space-just slightly less than the X5M’s 34 cubic feet.

Love the X6M - it’s a real IDGAF motor
The X6 M60i with dynamic handling package is the sweet spot and it's $30K less than X6M. M60i has rear wheel steering and is more comfortable for daily driving, but still has a lot of performance from the same S68 motor. The X6M would be my choice if I wasn't going to daily drive it, but just something to driving around for fun. Drive the M60i and X6M back to back and see which you like better.
The sweet spot is the Mercedes GLE AMG 63s. Significantly better daily drive and just a bombastic when needed
@@racebannon2332 The GLE AMG 63s is nice, but it's priced similar to the X6M. The GLE is like a more luxurious and street friendly X6M, but not as fast or as capable. The M60i is $30k cheaper and is more street oriented with plenty of performance for most. That's why I consider the M60i to be the sweet spot because for the price it offers the best blend of performance and comfort. Can't really go wrong with any of them, I think they're all very good SUVs.
@@monstamike79 considering price, you’re probably correct. I drove all three plus the Audi RSQ8 and the difference in power between the X5M Comp and 63s was indiscernible/insignificant. The Mercedes has a much better interior, more luxury albeit a premium price 😉

The BMW X6M is my favourite performance SUV….
What is really crazy is that the 2025 M5 weighs the same or maybe a little heavier than the X6M.
Currently, I have a LCI M5 Comp and I really like buying new cars but I can't get over with the weigh of the new M5. Also, I am not quite feeling the new look especially the back with the huge split diffuser. Actually, I like the back to the M% touring better; however, I am not a touring or SUV guy.
I saw both M5 and M5 touring in person and maybe the new look will grow on me.

Finally someone who comments on the wheel gap on these. If it had a lower stance it would look even better. BMW is killing it in the wheel design department to the GLE. And X6M- Comp has Digital Key and a better audio system than the GLE.
Mercedes wins that you get Active Ride Control (ARC) AND an air suspension.
I never use digital key on my m760,for me it’s pointless

The two suvs are so similar, x6 is so much fun to throw through corners, but it is so hard a ride with its suspension. Gle63 coupe may be a fraction slower, but sounds better and a lot smoother.

The high clearance between the Tyre and the chassis, is for more stability control when you are maneuvering curved roads or sharp turns. That way the car leans easily to the direction of turning and still maintain balance at the Same time

Is there a reason why the lci X5M and X6M lack the same lane assist and dash cam recorder buttons from the pre lci cars, despite the fact the same technology is available in the lesser models, in terms of price, on the M3 and M4.
It's def a thicc SUV haha. My X6 story relates to my friend / colleague, he had a 2nd gen and then he finally traded it in....for the current X4...but after about 3-4 months...(after he kept saying, ugh, I should have gotten the new X6, X4 is too small)...I realized I didn't see the X4 in te parking lot and then I did notice an X6 and i was like, OMG he did it! Yup, he traded the X4 in for the X6. The end.
Unrelated: Raz, when I first started watching your channel and heard the intro music, it brought back memories as it used to the be the intro for NBA games on NBC in the 90s....but after this upcoming season, the NBA is returning to NBC and that theme music will be used again. Just a fun fact for ya here from the States.
The lipstick wing on the back does nothing. Please share how much down force it produces. These types of add ons make it look cheap and not well thought out.

Both my new cars are mild hybrids and I think they are great. The family Volvo is the same engine as my last one but now mild hybrid, you can really feel that low down torque kick in early which is great for overtaking or nipping through traffic (yes, in a Volvo!).

Between my friends one has an X6M, it uses the same brakes as the M5 F90 and has no carbon ceramic option, he drives..... Actively... Never within speed limit, he changes his brake discs every 3 months, when usually you would change your brake discs/pads once a year with enthusiastic driving, and if you brake hard with it they overheat very fast... So the brakes on this car are very underpowered, they can stop you few times, but that's it... Though looks cool for slow-mo driving 😴😴😬

Question: we all know that best acceleration is with LC. In real life you don’t use LC at traffic light etc. Could it be that with the mild hybrid, the 0-60 time without LC is now faster?

I love your work, you drive and feel about cars much as I do. I have a g80 M4 comp and a LCI X5 M60i. I am looking at selling both and getting either the LCI X5 M or the 2025 cayenne GTS, your thoughts??
Why are you get rid of 60i out of curiosity. X5M will get your better performance than GTS. If you want similar/better performance, you’re going to have to pony up for that turbo GT. Drool.
@@bluestfalcon419 for me the M60 is great, I just did 1000 mile road trip and got 24 MPG at 80 MPH on free way, used it on steep gravel roads and is fast. The M comp will handle better but MPG so bad. The GTS handles the best and great for road trips and probably better off road (yes I go off road some with light trails). I drive my SUV hard on back roads for work commutes and want to have SUV utility with as close as I can to M4 performance.. of course all of this is a sickness of mine I acknowledge..

Ya with these coupe style SUVs I see it as an SUV without any of the benefits of an SUV. Would be crazy to me to pick this over a X5 M
I think you're looking at them the wrong way. The "coupe" SUVs do have many of the benefits of a "regular" SUV (same ride height for visibility and easier to enter/exit the vehicle, ground clearance for snow, etc) while gaining a more sporty appearance and ride. They only sacrifice a little bit of cargo room, but that's not a big deal for many people because they still provide much more cargo capacity than a regular sedan. The X5M is nice, but if you don't need the space there's not point in getting one and if you DO need the space perhaps the X7 or XM is a better choice.

Yeah, the pops and bangs have overstayed their welcome…if only M could get their V8’s to sound like AMG, or if one could get an after market exhaust that will achieve the same audiogasm. I think the X5M, due to its better looks and practicality advantage over the X6M, is my next impulsive buy

Car is heavier with the mild hybrid. Output it the same as the normal combustion (2020-2023 X5M comp). BMW had to change the gear ratios in order to keep the same performance as the 2021 -2023 model.
Car is a twin turbo does not suffer from much lag, therefore the mild hybrid excuse for tweaking the peaks, is rather lame…
Should have kept the same engine (no hybrid) for the M car.

What a horrible exhaust sound, it's more like an inline 6 than V8. I have s63 engine in my M8 and it's a night and day difference.

Of course BMW sells more X5 than the X6, the X5 comes in more trims and appeals to everyday people that just want to haul people or things around in a short school bus looking vehicle. The X6 is more of a niche vehicle, but has a market which is why the formula has been copied by almost every manufacturer.

Mate it doesn’t sound like an v8 - it sounds like a 6 cylinder. BMW pisses me really off. I have the x7m60i and compared to my previous 750i - it sound really weak. Like car for woke green washed individuals. Such a shame. BMW really fucking up.
