Broken Rusty 1950's Scooter Restoration

- Watch me in this video restore a 1950's (from what I can tell) toy scooter. I found this scooter sitting along the road for free. I picked it up not knowing that I would restore it. As seen in the video, the tires were cracked, it was missing the hand grips, only one bolt was holding on the handle bars, and there was rust that needed to be removed (which made for an awesome restoration video). After tearing the scooter apart, I was barely able to fit it in the sandblaster. The red paint was an automotive paint and then cover with clear coat. I replaced the tires and rims with new and I also found new hand grips. I made the decals with a Cricut machine. (Do you know what "R&R Scooter" stands for?)I made tassels for the grips with ribbon.
This restoration was a bit challenging, but overall the scooter came out beautiful. Thanks so very much for watching!

I think that is the best way I have seen yet to handle welding shots.
Nothing blocking the view and no crazy bright lights.
Thanks for the feedback. This was something new for me
Looks just like one I remember having as a kid in the '50s. Nice work!
Thanks much!
My mechanics had no tassles, so 1-0 for you ;D Great restoration!

Well done. I was wondering how you were gonna deal with those tire problems. I didn’t know you could still find replacements for something that old.
Yes, I was able to find them at a local store! Thanks for watching!
Excellent
Thanks 😊
professionally done work👍
Thanks much!
Awesome job!
Thank you very much!
Super restoration! I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but I believe you put the brake on backwards - the longer side goes on top to step on. Take care.
Thanks for the tip. I did try to put it back as it came apart. Thanks for watching and a have a great day!

Lol I’m keeping it!
I'm sure M M's would be pleeased..
Thanks
Couldn't find any information about the scooter looking under R&R. SORRY. Perhaps it was an offshoot to one of the wagon companies like Radio Flyer or even Sears.
Thanks for the info! The scooter is something I am keeping so the “R & R” stands for Rebuilt and Restored. Appreciate the view!
Nice vintage well done.
Thanks bro!
Outstanding! 😃👌🏼
I just picked one up but it has adjustable height handlebars. Decal on front says radio but can't seem to find a picture of the one I have . the handlebars are chrome plated and have a set screw with a collar to adjust the height.
Wow nice find. That one sounds cooler than this scooter. The adjustable handle bars would be a neat addition. Thanks for the comment and for watching! I appreciate the view. Have a great day 👍
i like it well done man
Thanks!
@@RebuiltRestored you're welcome
Nicely done! You are very talented..
Thanks!
Hi sir my name is Charles White and I have a old 1950s something push scooter and I would love to have it repaired but can't find nothing about repair places and would love to know if you know of any places near bullsgap Tennessee that can do it or how I can go about getting it done.
Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately I don’t of any in that area.
I hate to be the odd man out but the kickstand you straightened out was originally designed to have that arch in it to accommodate uneven surfaces. when did you find those tires?
Thanks for the comment! As mentioned in the description, I replaced the wheels and tires with new. I also found pictures of straight kickstands and curved. Thanks for the insight
@@RebuiltRestored where did you purchase the wheels and tires. Do you have a link or the name of the store...? Hey and thank you for taking my comment about the kick stand at face value. You truly are a class act and do excellent work
I bought these at my local TSC (Tractor Suppy Co). They also have a website. I hope this helps! tractorsupply.com
