Access to the camshaft is very important for engine maintenance. Sure. I salute your ability to hype and keep talking regardless of your knowledge of what you're looking at. Thanks for the video.
Look at how low that engine is/ how high the transmission is. It's exactly as I've been telling people who've whined about wanting a manual trans. The engine is definitely in the way, making shifter and select cables impossible to install. They can't even do as Porsche has done and run the cables to a fork mounted on thre side of the trans. This is a fantastic video showing details people that haven't been explained so far. Hopefully people now understand why a manual trans isn't available.
In 1971, I put a small block chevy in the back seat of a 1965 Corvair. I was a member of V-8 Corsa Car club. Now Chevy is putting a small block, in the middle of the Corvette. Beautiful car. Mine would be light blue with a light blue interior. Thank you GM.
Tadge has stated that in order to meet Chevrolet's ingress/egress requirements, the side sills are much narrower than those on typical mid-engine cars. Therefore, to increase structural rigidity, the center tunnel had to be relatively huge - it's essentially the backbone of the car. It's also plausible that it could house a small battery pack. It makes much more sense that an AWD model would have front motors rather than a driveshaft from the engine, especially since the transmission is on the back of the engine.
Thiosemicarbizide Benzoyl Alcohol I know they are headers I literally said that. But for people who mod their car stock headers usually go out quick that’s why I mentioned it.
Clearly an engineering marvel. Love the fact its 10x better than the imports and it does it at 1/3 the price! Nice video but one like this (especially with a cutaway) really needs someone who knows the basics about car design. It would add a ton of value to it.
I'm a Chevy guy. I'm sad because many people heading to Japanese and Korean cars because they tend to break less. But luckily that the resale value for Chevy vehicles is offordable which gives me the chance to put my hands on on one when I need. I think GM should consider investing in their second hand vehicles to support current owners and secure new users. Transportation market is changing constantly , but big markets remain big
Awesome Coverage, Its about the most sophisticated and simplistic machine on the planet! GM and Chevy really well designed this in super detail! Everyone can only hope to drive and take it to the track! At your Price it is a truly a great world bargain! I'm speechless!
That would indeed be AWESOME to see a driveshaft residing in that tunnel in the future! I guess time will tell... Thanks for sharing this cutaway with us, bro. Super cool!
I saw this cutaway at Carlisle and immediately saw a correlation between this chassis design and my BMW i8. That center tunnel is square to support batteries. No need to make right angles, otherwise. Tons of room up front for an electric motor. And those hub close out panels at 2:28 are only there because it's ready for a front axle. This car is going to have a hybrid option.
Mike ,you are the first one to show that there is a front sway bar, when the specifications were mentioned they said there was a rear sway bar but did not mention that there was a front bar, I kinda figured there had to be one but they never showed it or specified there was one. Thanks for showing this in great detail and I am looking forward to my C8 that you have my deposit on one. I`ve wanted to call you and find out where I am on your allocation list. Thanks again.
the little round thing on the engine you weren't sure about i believe is a freeze plug. i am also convinced that the windshield fluid is behind the passenger seat in the black triangle, i don't think its in the front, i think you referred to a shock absorber cavity. but i can be mistaken.
Great video, Thank you Chevy dude/Mike! I learned a lot about my new car. 2022, Z51, 3LT. Boot-ty-full car and great workmanship from the corvette team! Thank you! 😀😁😇
JAVIER QUINTERO - Same here; AWD but with power up front coming from an electric motor (or two motors) fitted to the front wheels. No driveshaft needed. I can think of several benefits that platform could provide, but most importantly, it would allow me to leave the neighborhood for an early morning drive without waking the neighborhood. 😈👍
The biggest concern I have with this engine layout is based on my experience of owning a 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT. That car had an engine in the back and radiator in the front. I had a situation where the coolant ran low. I poured more into the radiator, but there was still an air bubble that lead to the engine running hot. I eventually figured out that a needed to remove the radiator cap in the rear (which was for the thermostat), pull the thermostat, and pour more coolant into the housing. Once that was full I pulled the cargo on the radiator again, and kept pouring coolant into the thermostat housing until the radiator was overflowing. At that point I put the cap back on the radiator and finished filling the thermostat housing. Once it was full I reinstalled the thermostat and put the cap back on. This was the only process I found that eliminated all air from the system, with periodic checks and top-offs until it stayed full. I don't see how this can be done with the C8. I fear engines overheating in this car. Also, I didn't see any power steering in that car. The Fiero lacked power steering too. It was really stiff until you got the car moving more than a few miles per hour.
Just want to say thank you for the videos on the C8 you've posted. They are all very informative and this one really added details I was interested in knowing more about. I've waited a long..LONG time for a car to come out that I was willing and wanting to purchase to replace my current vehicle. The c8 Z51 is definitely it. I look forward to getting one! Got my name on the list at my dealer and just waiting for my number to come up to order (also I'm picky. So it needs to be exactly the way I want it. The tunnel will house the battery pack for the Zora version with the front wheels driven by an electric motor.
