Hello everyone and welcome back to Brink of Speed. Today, I will show you C8 driving secrets that I believe you can't do without knowing. I did a video like this for my C7 Corvette and everyone loved it. This one has even more secrets for the C8 and they are all great! If you own a C8 Corvette and learned something from this video, please leave me a comment down below and let me know which one you found to be most helpful to you. Have a wonderful SAFE week everyone!
GENE PINKARD COMMACENTS Thank you Gene, I really appreciate it! Yes, you can rev as high as you want to when the paddles are in. It certainly does have loads of traction, but once the Z06 and above versions come out with 150 & more HP that traction will go bye bye, thus a need for AWD. 😊
Yes they'd carried it over but to top it all off, it's even better now (various upgrades/improvements, more power, standard dry sump etc.) as well! :-)
Thanks for the details Mike. I really appreciate the recommendations on sideview mirror setup. I did know most of the other secrets since I have been waiting impatiently for over a year. I am one of the Kerbeck ELB almost builds with a TPW of 3/16. I am living vicariously through you...lol
Robert Matland You’re very welcome! Yes sir, it is a life saver for sure. It sucks waiting for a car like this. I hope you get it sooner than later. I will do my best to make every video a great adventure for you to experience 😊👍👊
Rafael Acosta Thank you, I’m happy you enjoyed it. Yeah, I’m not sure what GM was thinking when they added that low of resolution, but whatever, at least we can switch it to 1080p. I sure will bro! 😊
The only reason someone would pick a lower resolution is for the fact you could store more video using 480p. The 1080p uses more space on the SD card. Compared to 480p, 1080p video uses significantly more space on an SD card, roughly twice as much; on a 128GB SD card, you can store approximately twice as much 480p video compared to 1080p video at the same bitrate and recording settings. Explanation: Resolution difference: 1080p has a much higher resolution than 480p, meaning it contains significantly more pixels per frame, resulting in larger file sizes. Storage capacity impact: 480p: A 128GB SD card can store a considerably longer duration of 480p video. 1080p: On the same 128GB card, you can store significantly less 1080p video due to the larger file size per minute. Key points to remember: Bitrate matters: Even at the same resolution, the video bitrate (data rate) can affect storage space used. The remote double click windows down trick, was popular on my 2015 LTZ Midnight Silverado during our Texas Summers. I haven't used it on my C8 yet but thanks for the reminder
Mike, Great review. I just got my first Corvette, C8, 3LT, Z51 loaded. I love it. I didn't know about the paddles and neutral or the double click on the windows. Your side mirror advice is so smart and I do it on all my cars. Can you tell me why so many corvette drivers lose control off the line and crash their Corvettes. I'm guess ing so much power and so light a car, but it amazes me how many of these gorgeous cars get crashed this way. Thanks.
Ralph Liniado Thank you, and congratulations on your new C8! I’m glad you enjoyed it and learned from it. Yes, there are way too many people out there that can’t handle a normal car well, let alone a super powerful one.
Ralph Liniado cause everyone turns off traction control especially if your racing from a dig cause it will take away power from witch ever tire is slipping therefore slowing you down a little. So. Ppl turn it off ..(hit the send it button) and they loose control
@@josephmccullough7163 Thanks Joseph. Totally makes sense what happens. I have a friend with a Z06 and I keep warning him to be careful with it. So much power!
Mike, I took delivery of my 2023 2LT hardtop convertible Stingray in February 2023. When trying to customize my Z Mode and My mode, I don’t see the option to select Track as an option for engine, exhaust, etc. I have the Performance Exhaust option, but quite honestly it’s not what I expected when in Z mode. Not loud enough. Can you comment on the customization of Modes again?
What’s up Mike, just watched your video and loved all the tips. just trying to understand the mashing the gas and holding left paddle. So when you said mash the gas how does it drop it into 2 or 3rd gear without the car going? With the paddles holding the left one in drops to 2nd or 3rd you gun it and let go right?
Awesome, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Yes, mash the gas, and let off immediately. It will downshift to a gear that will put you right at a good RPM for racing. Same goes for the left paddle, except, it isn’t as accurate and sometimes puts you in too low of a gear.
Brink of Speed, just got my used 2023 3900 miles, can you use the two paddles pulled to rev it higher than the 3500rpm launch control to leave the starting line without hurting the car?
Good Job Mike... Handy info IF and WHEN I get my 8! Keep them coming .... this is like taking delivery at the Museum a little bit at a time... Plus I will be able to look back on things I forgot.... Which happens when your 72.... BTW... Had any experience with the Spring Mountain driving school? I’ve done a couple with BMW... loved them!
Bill Dillard Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I hope you get yours sooner than later! I haven’t been there yet, but I’m definitely gonna go as soon as Vegas opens back up. I can’t wait to go! I bet you had fun with your BMW schools.
Nice video! I want to elaborate on the blind spot settings of the mirrors. You are right on in the way you INITIALLY set them up. I saw this tip way back when I was a kid in the 70’s which was an article in Popular Science magazine called never have a blind spot. Once you have set them up as you fantastically showed, to fine tune it perfectly, you need to do the following while you are driving on a STRAIGHT road with traffic. The premises is that your rear view mirror is the main view always. You wait for the opportunity for a car to be coming up on you from the left lane. You should see the the entire front of the car approaching you in your rear view. As soon as you see the car passing you, front edge disappears (or headlight) from the rear view, make sure to fine tune adjust the left mirror so that the front edge or headlight appears in the side mirror. When you have set it properly, you will then see the middle of the car in your rear view and the other half appears in your left mirror. When the car moves further past you, you will see the entire front disappear from the rear view and will now be entirely in the side view. WARNING!!, At this point that car is in an area that would be too late for you to drive into that left lane as he is now in your actual blind spot (but you see him). As the car begins to disappear from your side view, you should start to see that he has appeared in your peripheral vision. You will never have a side swipe nor never see a car come out of now where if you are always scanning your rear and side view mirrors while driving (like you are supposed to do paying attention to driving). Now if only I could get my wife to understand this just like the majority of drivers think they need to see the side of their car which is wrong. 😅
Great video again! Caution! C8 1LT does not have the review mirror camera, blind spot mirror protection, or power fold in mirrors. The mirror adjustment tip is a must do!
@3:45 of the video you say hold down the left paddle shifter & mash your gas pedal. Is holding down the paddle shifter you pushing the shifter toward the dash or you pulling it toward you as the driver? I don't know, I've never owned an automatic with a paddle shifter technology.
Hey, Mike I really love your C8 the right color and the right setup enjoy the car and be safe out there. We don't have the C8 here in central Fl yet. my dealership has my deposit for 2021 corvette. he stated there is no more 2020 corvette because of shut down. of Ocala, FL I'm so sad and very mad, I have to wait.
Great videos Mike and great tips! C8 owners may already know this but there is a "cigarette type" outlet under the glovebox to the left. Also, when you put the car in reverse do the side mirrors automatically tilt down or is that a setting you can choose?
Brian Kapp Thank you, Yep, I should have added that into the video for sure. Umm, no they don’t tilt down and I’m not sure if you can set them up to do that or not.
Great tips Mike I know that they will help those new C8 owners out there, I remember the mirror tip from the C7 video you had put out a while ago... How do you find those secrets, do tell👍👍👍
PR 65 Thank you Juan, I really appreciate it. Yep, the mirror is the best one for sure. I just drive my car for a while and find things, along with research. 😊
I would never ever be able to adjust the mirrors as I need to see sliver of car but I find no problems using mirrors and the rear view camera . Camera a great feature. Great content Mike!!
In your video you stayed at that you always had a Z06 and now you have a stingray C8 why did you go to the stingray C8? is there a difference? and do you regret going to a stingray from a Z06 from later models?
I love this presentation. So much I would not have discovered on my own. Put my order in last March. Given that production is going full speed, I hope I get mine next Easter.
The recommended mirror adjustment is something I will try. Usually, I'm not comfortable unless I see part of my car in the mirror. Fold in the mirrors when going through a drive through of ATM. The #1 secret. The rear lid open has been in a couple of other videos, but worth showing again. AF
Hey, Mike the first thing you did..is that like dropping a gear in a manual? eg. Your in 4 gear, you put the car in 3rd and the car high revs and you push it and then climb back up to 4th. I may be wrong.haaa
@@BrinkofSpeed What’s up Mike, just watched your video and loved all the tips. just trying to understand the mashing the gas and gliding left paddle. So when you said mash the gas how does it drop it into 2 or 3rd gear without the car start going? With the paddles holding the left one in drops to 2nd or 3rd you gun it and let go right?
@9:80min. 480p to 1080p may be a back up & is available for you if the 1080p is dysfunctional. I don't know but that's my personal thought. Maybe we inquire GM about that. 1080pixel vs. 480pixel.
In the C7 you can blip the gas pedal to the floor let up quickly and the trans will drop down to the best lowest gear for what ever speed your going, The DIC will say trans in performance shift mode. This will only stay for about 30 seconds. Must be in sport or track mode.
I also found the Sun Visor does not fold enough 😮 to block the bright Sun or you must set up tall in the seat…. The Passenger Side Blind Spot is terrible and the “Warning System” will provide notification, but the approaching car is already beside you it seems.
Well, once again the electronic wizardry is amazing. As to the PDR quality. Hmm, 480p? Why didn't GM just include an option for an 8-track player as well?😉 I remember your C7 upload as respects setting one's view with the exterior mirrors. I actually went out to the Vette right after the upload and did it. Took the Vette out on the road and I had my "SOB" moment with "It really does work! 👍 Having said all this, it does beg the question as to why GM didn't do exterior electronic mirrors like they did with the interior mirror? As to the double-tap for widow roll down, will the Vette remain locked? Love the extra push "secret" of engine bay lid. I think the Owner's Manual needs to have a chapter labeled as: "SECRETS OF THE C8." Then the owner could open the chapter and read: "Call 1-800-BOS-BRNK! 😁 Save the Wave🙋🏼♂️
Peter Carey It sure is Peter. I totally agree, who would leave it in 480p mode, I made the mistake of not checking the settings the first time I used it and was horrified by the footage when I got home. Heck yeah, the mirror thing is a life saver for sure. The car actually is unlocked at that point so you would have to hit lock to lock it back. It’s great for if it’s super hot out and you start your car from a distance coming out of a store, you can then roll the windows down and let all the hot air out while you walk to your car. Yeah, the trunk raising up like that is really cool for sure. Lol, that number actually exists Peter, be careful what you wish for 😉😉
The #1 Secret is when you double click on you key fob the windows automatically roll down? Not sure. Just asking. But if so what is the advantage of your windows rolling down? To air out the car on a hot day? More importantly, I love your white C8. Have you considered getting polished chrome trident wheels for your car? There is just something about white and chrome that goes so well together.
It’s great for if it’s super hot out and you start your car from a distance coming out of a store, you can then roll the windows down and let all the hot air out while you walk to your car. As far as the wheels go, sorry man but I’m not a chrome fan at all. Yeah, the trunk raising up like that is really cool for sure. Lol, that number actually exists Peter, be careful what you wish for 😉😉
@@BrinkofSpeed Thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I found white Ferrari 306 with chrome wheels and though the car still looks great the color combo looks dated.
davidhunternyc Everyone has black wheels on their white corvettes, I have a set of black and chrome and get many more complaints when running the chrome. Maybe the black wheel fad is fading.
@@awsmdad5257 Wow, thank you. From someone who has both set of wheels your opinion matters. Did you say you get more "complaints" running the chrome or more "compliments" when running the chrome. Depending on the shape of the rims I think chrome and white can be an elegant combination. I don't think, however, the black wheel thing is fading. I've never thought that black rims against the black rubber looked very good. I have seen black rims that have a thin lip of polished aluminum up against the rubber and the delineation sets off the rim better.
Here’s a different point of view after trying to mirror trick. I think I like the mirrors the old way and use the blind spot System for what it was intended, seeing when someone’s in the Blindspot!! What do you think?
pulling both paddles does not put the car in neutral, it disengages both clutches, similar to pushing in the clutch pedal on a manual transmission car. Sorry for my OCD.
Damon Williams Thank you, I’m actually glad I didn’t get GT2 now, because everyone I know that has sat in both says they think GT1 are more comfortable.
@@BrinkofSpeed i sat in one with the gt2 seats as well and they were extremely comfortable you seem like a guy who has great taste but the gt1 seat are UGLY and make that beautiful car look cheap Especially there area behind your head makes it look out dated
480p “looks like straight trash” 😂😂😂😂 I totally agree. BTW, My ZO6 windows and top lowers by key fob 🤷♂️. Oh, might want to put a disclaimer on this vid at the mirror adjustment part ... you said “you will never hit a car” in your blind spot, - u don’t want a lawsuit.
Brad Mason Lol, it sure does! 😂🤣😂 Yeah, I guess I should have said, this is the first Corvette Coupe that has the window feature. Only convertibles had that option. I thought about doing the disclaimer thing of course after I had made the video. 🤦♂️ Thank you for your kind words and support. 😊
With a lot of dealers not being able to send some to corvette school because it was cancelled because of virus. Why don’t you have videos on operating it
I wish all people would set up their mirrors the proper way. I don't worry about cutting someone off. I worry about them cutting me off. There are a lot of clueless drivers on the roads these days.

I may be wrong.haaa
studio7 Yes sir, except, it goes from 8th to 2nd or 3rd gear for maximum power bands
Mike good info. We couldn’t see what happened to windows when you pressed unlock twice. Tried it on our c8 nothing happened.
D & K Vloggers Yep
Nice explanation of a good use of mymode and zmode. I was wondering why they provided 2 settings.
Save the Wave🙋🏼♂️
Peter Carey It sure is Peter. I totally agree, who would leave it in 480p mode, I made the mistake of not checking the settings the first time I used it and was horrified by the footage when I got home.
Heck yeah, the mirror thing is a life saver for sure.
The car actually is unlocked at that point so you would have to hit lock to lock it back. It’s great for if it’s super hot out and you start your car from a distance coming out of a store, you can then roll the windows down and let all the hot air out while you walk to your car.
Yeah, the trunk raising up like that is really cool for sure.
Lol, that number actually exists Peter, be careful what you wish for 😉😉
@@BrinkofSpeed As the saying goes, "I got your number!" 😉 AND, I got it on Speed Dial!😁
@@petercarey6883 Yes sir! 🙂👍
New owner here, great tips!!
Great Video to fast for me 😊
Victor Johnson Awesome, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I have seen black rims that have a thin lip of polished aluminum up against the rubber and the delineation sets off the rim better.
davidhunternyc Sorry spellcheck got me. More compliments with chrome.
Excellent blog! Yep thanks so much I didn't know almost all of that stuff that you went over and I've been around a lot longer than you have - LOL.
Salvatore Cerniglia Thank you, I’m happy you enjoyed it and learned from it. 😊
Bryan Kingston Lol, it acts like neutral though and that’s what is important. No worries at all, thank you for your feedback. 😊
Brink of Speed
I thought I saw an “N” on the display when double paddle pull was executed.
Almost “Double Nickel” Subscribers!!! 55K
Congratulations Mike!!!
🎉❤❤❤❤❤🎉
You just have to get a ZO6 soon! PLEASE GM, SEE TO IT!!!
480p would be used to record extremely long driving sessions as the resultant video output file(s) require far less space
Beautiful car but i believe you shoulda splurged a little more money with the gt2
Seats
Damon Williams Thank you, I’m actually glad I didn’t get GT2 now, because everyone I know that has sat in both says they think GT1 are more comfortable.
@@BrinkofSpeed i sat in one with the gt2 seats as well and they were extremely comfortable you seem like a guy who has great taste but the gt1 seat are UGLY and make that beautiful car look cheap
Especially there area behind your head makes it look out dated
Most cars have this function. Its the kick down in the transmission. Is this the secret? My Ram &Honda do this.😊
Window trick not working on my c8 I have a 23 lt2 😢
A power glide had a kick down but you only had two gears
Need my Cup O Joe. BRB!
Sounds good 😊
20k OTW!
Thomas Yarnes Yes sir! 😊
With a lot of dealers not being able to send some to corvette school because it was cancelled because of virus. Why don’t you have videos on operating it
Anthony l Salerno What would you like to see?
I didn't notice what happened when you double tap the unlock button.
Why don’t you cover the coil over and how to lower the C8. Front and rear. Z51 Non lift cars.
I wish all people would set up their mirrors the proper way. I don't worry about cutting someone off. I worry about them cutting me off. There are a lot of clueless drivers on the roads these days.
my ford fusion had auto windows with a double click of the remote
They hard top convertible
👍👍
I haven’t seen anyone with a convertible C8. Did nobody order one?
Yes, but they aren't built yet.
I just got mine, I do understand this question is 3y old, still wanted to share, I was with you when you had your c7
Note the C8 offers a HTC [hard top convertible) so if you're expecting to see rag tops you won't find on a C8
Does anyone here know how to get out of demo mode in brand new C8 2023 corvette
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Bob Cohen 😊
The 480p is for recording many hours of video. Basically quantity over quality. I guess some people would want that.
💪💪💪💪💪
William Duval 😊
Smart move blocking the speed
must be your first corvette
Do you think a 2030 Vette will drive itself? If so, will it "do things" to it's owner on purpose?
Dude. My F150 downshifts when you floor it
