i actually formed my first "group" as a 10 year old kid after the Monkees came on the scene. i had a toy drum set, a plastic guitar and a very old microphone and tube powered PA head with speaker. can't say we made real music, but we had real fun! 4 years later I formed a proper band with proper instruments. we played the 9th grade talent show around 1969 I think. here i am in my 60s still doing it mostly because the Monkees got me started.
So strange to me seeing my childhood icons pass. I never missed watching the Monkees after school. Love their songs. Still do. RIP Mike. You were my favorite.

I used to race home from school so I could watch The Monkeys.. it was the highlight of my day and Mike Nesmith was the guy I had a crush on..11 years old. Then when he released his album with RIO I raced out and got it, and listened to that track over and over. Then we He toured here, I raced out and got my ticket! I was front row and so happy to see Him, what a buzz. So sad to hear he's gone, but never ever forgotten ❤🙏

Michael Nesmith along side the other members of that TV band were an inspiration to thousands and thousands of young people back in the day. For those of us who were young kids back then they gave us all HOPE, The Monkeys were much bigger than simply a TV show, Together the four of them provided that touch of hope that was so needed back then for many reasons. Mike you did a great job. RIP
Every time I watch that interview clip where Mike gets emotional talking about Pete's passing, I get choked up. I was lucky enough to catch the Mike and Micky show live a couple of years back. So much fun. He was so talented.
Growing up in the 70's was the best time. The Monkees' show was funny and I loved their music. We were all so into music, cartoons and everything was simpler then. Wish I could go back in a time capsule and live just one day!

For 35 years I've listened to their music, watched their show and their movie Head multiple times, read all i could read on them, and have seen them live many times. I just saw The Micky and Mike show last month. And now Mike's gone. First Davy ( R.I.P.), then Peter( R.I.P.), and now Mike. It's with a heavy heart that i say: Rest in peace, Papa Nez. The wool hat has permanently been retired💔😞😢😭

I really liked his song “Magic.” My sister was mesmerized by his “El Dorado to the Moon.” My late father liked the corny side of his song “Chow Mein and Bowling.” Very sad to hear Michael Nesmith is gone. Before The Monkees , Michael was a traveling Folk Singer in Texas, and came to our Elementary School in Odessa, Texas. He sang solo with an acoustic guitar. I still remember him singing Michael Row Your Boat Ashore, and I thought it was about him. He was very friendly and engaging to a bunch of school children. Within a year he was on television with The Monkees.

this news makes me so sad. Mike was a boyhood hero of mine along with the other Monkees. Being from Texas I felt connected to the guy with the slight drawl and a wool hat. Later in life as I began to write songs myself I found a new appreciation for Mike Nesmith's work as a poet and composer/musician. I do feel like something has been taken from me with Mike's passing. I'm so heartbroken! I didn't really know who the Monkee's were growing up, back then. I just knew their music. However, it wasn't until 1987, I believe. When they made a come back with their tv show. And I loved them since. Hearing the news of each of their passing, just broke my heart. And now there's only one!! sigh........I feel like my childhood is slipping away!
