26:26 Steve doesn't make that huge jump to save himself; he makes the jump to save Bucky because Bucky refused to leave without him. I always thought that said a lot about how Steve always cares more about others than about himself and it showed how strong the bond between him and Bucky is.
Peggy was absolutely interested in Steve pre-serum. She was his superior and he was in basic. Then they were immediately separated. She took her shot as soon as she had one. 🙂
yea she always kept looking at him even before the car ride, like when he was crawling and got stuck and he got yelled at and peggy immediately turned around and looked for him
10:12 This was the scene that made Steve Rogers my favorite avenger. Yeah, he becomes a super soldier, but he’s not nothing without that. Steve is the only one who thinks outside the box, he uses his brain. By the end of the movie, he’ll have both the brain and the brawn to match.
I mean, none of the Avengers are nothing without their powers. Tony Stark isn't nothing without his armor, Bruce Banner isn't nothing without the Hulk, Thor isn't nothing without his hammer, etc. etc. Steve isn't unique in that regard.
When he called him weak, he wasn't referring to a weak character .. he was referring to weak physically. He IS weak, he más many medical conditions that prohibit him from being physically strong. So he's saying that when he becomes strong, he'll respect that new strength. There's no way of taking it in a bad way, it was a compliment all around.
This phenomenon of RUclipsrs watching the MCU is a total blast for those of us who need some new angle after watching these films so many times already. Way to go!
Well, it's really because of the serum. For Steve, hypothermia, which was supposed to kill him, instead triggered a side-effect of his super soldier serum and rendered him in a state of suspended animation, it was as if Steve was paused in time until he was retrieved. If he didn't have the serum, he would have just died.
"He low-key called him weak" ..but if you listen to his explanation you realize the real "power" that makes someone good/great isn't power/strength, it's respect.
Such an underrated movie. I love how well they showed that Steve had the hart of a hero regardless of strength, and the grenade scene is the perfect example. Combining that will with a body that would make ancient Greek sculptures weep creates one of the greatest superheroes of all time.
The reason why "Cut off one head, two more will take its place" is Hydra's catchphrase is because the hydra is a creature from mythology whose heads keep on growing with double the number despite being cut off by Hercules repeatedly. So while it does mean that there will always be more Hydra soldiers to fight, it's a cool reference to Schmidt's obsession with ancient myths. Although the hydra is actually a water snake and not an octopus (which is how it is depicted on the soldiers' pins).
According to Marvel lore Hydra existed before Red Skull, they were a shadow group and he used his position with Hitler to increase their power and he and Van Strucker became the public faces of Hydra
I think the reason it's an octopus, is cause there are actually 2-3 representations of it where it still has the draconic body. But rather than legs and claws, it actually does have 4-6 tentacles. So just having the head and tentacles just makes for a better icon. Plus, as you said, it plays into his obsession with mythologies (especially obscure ones.)
4:08 - It's not discrimination. If you have a medical condition, you're a liability (especially in combat). Whether you're a front line infantry soldier or a military cook, you still need to be able to do your job where the military needs you without medical hindrance. I love this movie, honestly my favorite of Phase 1 other than The Avengers. Chris Evans did such an amazing job. So many people were afraid when he was cast in this role, because he'd almost only ever played a wisecracking, jokester kind of character. But he really became Steve Rogers, and I personally can't imagine anyone else in this role.

As a veteran, I can tell you that the reason they don't want to recruit someone with that many health problems is because it puts other soldiers at risk. A unit is only as strong as it's weakest soldier. Him needing to be saved because he can't hold his own would get someone else killed.
5:21 It’s so cool how you caught that! Just like they had the Stark Expo in the present day during Iron Man 2, they also had it in the 1940s. That honestly never clicked in my head until now! Wow! Good eye!
"Hail Hydra" is not a catchphrase, a Hydra is actually a mythical creature with 9 heads I believe, and if you cut a head off, 2 more grow in its place. That is why Red Skull and Hydra say the phrase.
So portions of this movie are actually inspired by the real-life story of Audie Murphy, an American soldier who fought in World War Two despite being rejected for service multiple times.
Love this film. Do you remember that, years later, research was being done to replicate the dead Dr's super-soldier serum...and that's what accidentally created The Hulk? Oh...and the original Captain America comic stories WERE a war propaganda thing to boost moral. The film used this brilliantly I think.

5:38 There's one Easter egg for fans of the 1940s comics: "The Synthetic Man" is a reference to the original Human Torch. Not Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four (played by Chris Evans in the 2005 film and its sequel), but an artificial man. In comics, Cap and Bucky teamed up with Torch and other heroes to fight the Axis.
Just a heads up, the guy was Howard Stark, Tony’s dad. Assuming Tony is in his late 40s or so, that means the time during WWII where Cap came from was 20+ years before Tony was born.
One reason why Hydra uses the slogan, “cut off one head, and two more shall take its place” is because in Greek mythology, there is a serpentine water monster called the Lernaean Hydra, where if you cut off one of its heads, two more will grow back. 🤯
At the very beginning they fond him frozen, and the dude said this one has been asleep long enough. That was modern time. Then they went into the story.

As an asthmatic who was in the military, I can say that the US military doesn't often like to take on people who will need costly medical treatments or time from work due to illness. In World War II, there was no treatment or cure (still no cure) for asthma. Plus, if you freeze Steve's medical report, you see he has a host of other problems, including heart problems. He had Scarlet Fever and Rheumatic Fever at differing times. My dad had Rheumatic fever and it never went away, lurking in the background and eating up his heart. Steve was a medical disaster and it was surprising he even lived to 24 (my dad's FIRST heart surgery was at 25, and he died on the table twice before they managed to help him live . . . he eventually died at 57 from his rheumatic Heart Fever). Thus, the military would be thinking they'd spend more money on Steve's health and training (an asthmatic can barely do the rigorous exercise needed in training alone without medical intervention, and that wasn't available in the 1940s). Plus, his mother died of Tuberculosis, which means Steve was exposed to that disease. While TB is treatable now, it was not treatable then and was considered a death sentence. Basically, Steve would not even be allowed near the soldiers in his condition and with his medical background. The serum was the ONLY way he could get in.
Agent Carter’s “Steve” when the line goes dead gets me every time. Hayley atwell killed it as Peggy Coupled with Cap’s “I had a date” 🥺 I don’t understand how this isn’t more people’s favourite mcu origin movie
I love everything about this. I love the length (especially compared to other reactions of this film). I love y'all's chemistry (as a couple and as just 2 reactioners) and I love the insight. This is entertainment lol 🤣

They're british. Their country is getting so woke people are being fined and arrested for misgendering. Both of our countries is actively weakening our military just for the sake of political correctness. Like allowing women to go into combat, etc massively reducing physical fitness requirements for men and women, etc.
@@nukiesduke6868 and then we have conspiracy theorists who massively oversimplify issues like a Fox News anchor and pretend like Britain isn’t suffering it’s worst recession of the century off the back of psycho conservatives who believed every lie peddled to them. Not to mention it’s affiliation to the greater defensive sphere or every other major diplomatic loss of face that brexit alchemied into a full on threat to national security.
Captain America is my favorite hero in the MCU, and this is a great introduction, it handles the character of Steve Rogers so well. I don't think it is a great movie, mostly because it kinda rushes to the end after Cap gets his shield and uniform, it could've used some breathing room and bonding with Cap and the Howling Commandos. Still quite like it, and the sequels are great.
The line "cut off one head 2 more shall take its place" is a reference to mythological creature the hydra. This creatures abilities you guessed it growing 2 heads when 1 is cut off.
Just to give you a little clarification of how Cap slept in ice for so long, you know how things get preserved when frozen and how they've found prehistoric animals completely preserved in ice, not alive though when thawed. Well, same principle except Steve has the super-soldier serum in him that keeps healing him and it kept his blood from crystallizing while frozen, which is the reason we can't survive being frozen and brought back at this time with current technology. If we can find a way to keep frozen blood cells from crystallizing, then cryogenics would be actually possible. I love this movie. Captain America was one of my favorite Marvel characters growing up and I'm...(*ahem*) old...er. ;-) A lot of people didn't understand (before this movie came out) who he was and just thought he might be just some jingoistic propaganda and sure, that's how he started, both in actuality in the comics during war time, but also in this movie how he started off as a propaganda show-pony selling bonds. But, this version of him as being just "a good man" is how I always saw him and I was SO pleased with how they portrayed him and how Chris Evans embodied him. That look on his face at the end and when he says, "...I had a date," always gets me. I've always seen him as a bit of a sad character 'cause he's a man out of time which makes it even harder for him to get close to people and he has all these ideals and principles he grew up with that are looked at as old fashioned and out of date by many, but he always tries to stay true to those principles, even if it goes against what others and even the government says. He's not simply a "good soldier," but first and foremost he's a good man.

Hayley atwell killed it as Peggy
Coupled with Cap’s “I had a date” 🥺 I don’t understand how this isn’t more people’s favourite mcu origin movie
It was incredible chemistry.
This has always been one of my favorite movies but watching it again these days hits different, love Peggy and cap truly
5:42 Doctor Who fans will notice Jenna Coleman a.k.a Clara, the 11th & 12th Doctors companion!
People still watch doctor who?
25:22 I love his face there, he's like "In the name of freedom what the fondue is that?!" XD
11:38 so glad you two seem to like Steve, I love him so much. I love all the avengers tbh. Marvel is good at creating great characters.
I'm loving this series of reactions!! I can't wait to see this progress and watch how Monica is shocked by the huge things to come!
I love everything about this. I love the length (especially compared to other reactions of this film). I love y'all's chemistry (as a couple and as just 2 reactioners) and I love the insight.
This is entertainment lol 🤣
You can break a video down into 2 parts.... It would be easy to upload and also you can cover more time..!
Fun fact the car chase scene when Steve is running after the bad guy he’s actually wearing boots that look like bare feet so he wouldn’t step on any rocks or glass
Definitely a good watch while also watching Falcon and the Winter Soldier
28:27 Goddamn, that made me bawl. 10 years of following this journey does that to you. This hits so much differently now. 😭😭 (edit: apparently not just that scene 😭😭)
Well, it's been a while since I've seen one of your reactions but how I've missed you guys
The scene where he jumps on the grenade is so underrated
I am a Huge Marvel Fan & I am Really exited to watch this saga with You Guys it's like I am also watching it for the First time❤️
And I would love to suggest you to watch Stranger Things it's one of the best shows I have ever watched and I hope you guys like it🤗
Great profile picture for a marvel fan 😂😂
@@louiechapman-jones9861 i just realized it's the joker 💀
@@louiechapman-jones9861 yeah I love Joker Than any other villain so😅
In case you haven't put it together by now, the reason for the line about cutting off heads is because a hydra is a mythical dragon like monster that if you cut off its head 2 more will grow back in it's place.
Greek mythology
I learned this with the Hercules movie from Disney 😂👌🏻
@@susyperez8445 i learned it from Percy Jackson yo. Haha.
God I’m so happy this is back you guys have such good commentary. You have so much cool shit ahead of you!
fun fact: the caretaker of the cathedral (?) in norway in the beginning was actually filch (aka "crazy cat man" as monica once called him HAHAHHAA)!! and i find it so cute that whenever something happens, you guys tilt your head to the side in the same manner
Now why would you want someone with all those health issues going to war, Rico?? 😂😂
he really doesn't seem to get what a total war is about. From dissing war bonds to saying enlist every rando who shows up... like bruh it all mattered.
I am a fan of stucky. This has so much stucky love in it
Captain America is my favorite hero in the MCU, and this is a great introduction, it handles the character of Steve Rogers so well. I don't think it is a great movie, mostly because it kinda rushes to the end after Cap gets his shield and uniform, it could've used some breathing room and bonding with Cap and the Howling Commandos. Still quite like it, and the sequels are great.
42:10 - possibly the saddest moment in the MCU. Top Five, at the very least. Literally what kicks off the 'Man out of time' arc.
Ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cant wait to see the 2nd one
28:07 it's Stan Lee !
Tbh it's refreshing to watch people who actually pay attention to movies, she recognizes a lot of stuff ❤
I gotta say, I love seeing you guys’ reactions to the MCU.
Great reaction, hope that you keep making all the mcu films!
Schmidt is the Red Skull. That’s why he looks like that.
The line "cut off one head 2 more shall take its place" is a reference to mythological creature the hydra. This creatures abilities you guessed it growing 2 heads when 1 is cut off.
Because my all-time favorite MCU movie from the new era
The body double for "Little Steve" is the Bartender at the club (Scene around 28:30)
Looking forward to The Winter Soldier movie. Thats where Cap action scenes became more bad ass
Just discovered your channel, really enjoyed the reaction!
After finishing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier show re-watching this movie just made everything about it more special.
33:04 He actually is strong enough. Anim Zola experimented on him, so Bucky was a supersoldier as well.
I suspected his powers will still growing at the point, or Zola added more later.
Fun fact: the nice scientist that helped out Steve played one of the most hated characters in cinema history in the movie “the lovely bones”
Now your interested? She was obviously already getting more interested in him to begin with for who he was.
Were you able to find an editor man?😁
so glad you're back!!! hopefully you're next MCU movie doesn't get held up by RUclips.
Maybe you should split the vids into two parts to avoid copyright. That might make it easier for you 🤷♂️
33:12 will meet him again at captain america 2 as winter soldier
OMG finally! Hope you upload the next one soon.
11:08 that's why he's worthy
I love this channel so much, but waiting more than a month for the videos on RUclips it’s crazy.
I know RUclips it’s a pain in the ass with the copyright but try to make the videos in two parts videos of 10-15m of content and three parts for the Avengers movies that are the ones with more important scenes and content. I can’t wait for The Avengers and I hope it doesn’t take another month haha. Love y’all !
