Sandy, I thought I would pass along a cautionary bit of advice. If using pans made of unpainted or unsealed metal the paint could ,over time, begin to rust them. Many cosmetic sets are used for compressed, dry powder pigments and therefore no need for sealing. It is a simple step of spraying a couple of clear or white coats BEFORE loading in you paints. If the metal pan looks dull or matte it probably isn't sealed.Hope this helps avoid ruined paints.Good luck on your trip!

I’ll use them up long before they rust ❤️

The pans look like they’re aluminum, which will not rust! Most makeup pans are made of die cut aluminum.

I've been wondering if these things rust. I'm also wondering about how what to use to hold the water. I,saw videos of painting their paintings while standing up, as if like they don't have a separate container of water to use to clean the paints off.

That wrist palette is made out of a pill box. One of the things I really enjoyed with making my own pallets is using dry erase contact paper to cover the lid for mixing space. The other thing is to laminate an index card cut to the same size. What I've been doing is putting the contact paper down and then putting in a laminated card so that if I need the extra mixing space I can just take the card out and then still have the interior of the lid.

Have a wonderful time Sandy! I am so excited for you.
I have never flown before but my husband and I have decided to save up and go to Cuba next year (for our 40th Ann.) with our son & daughter in law. Where I don't swim, I plan to take my colouring and some w/c and do that in the shade for a week, so I am anxious to see how what you have taken works out for you. Of course I am merely a beginner at it so I am sure my colour palette will be much more basic but I am curious...Have a wonderful time and travel safe!

As I was watching some of your watercolor videos I perked up when I saw the cover of the sketchbook as I quickly recognized the painting and anxious to hear where I could purchase.
Omg!! Then, you casually mentioning that YOU attended an Alvaro Castagnet workshop!!
Wow! You flip the page and I see his signature and you proceed to show HIS actual painting of a silhouette featuring a group of people!!!
I’m not sure what you said after that, Sandy, as I was just “blown away”🙀
He, along with Joseph Zubrick and Thomas Schuyler are some of the best artists of our time in my humble opinion!
I’d LOVE to hear about that workshop! Have you ever watched “Color My World “? It’s a series that features different artists in different mediums. He was featured by himself and with Joseph Z (the 3 amigos)….
He is just fascinating to watch on tv. I can’t imagine see his work in person!
Sorry. I just had to stop and say something!! You just went over it so quickly….lol
Now I am curious to what other artists you have been taught by???
Thank you! That was a real treat!

such creative interesting options. I had a couple adorable small palettes but they did not work for me as I use large brushes and make a mess contaminating colors when I slop them around (honestly, I make a mess when I paint) plus I really missed having lots of mixing space. I settled on using the 12 half pan size Meeden tin , pulling out the pan holder which allowed me to fit more full size pans and that palette has loads of mixing space. To deal with sadness over losing the cuteness aspect, I added a decoupaged collage on the top of the tin. Have fun, such an exciting adventure you are undertaking for a great cause.

Ahhh you will soo love puerto rico. Been there, but small tiny tip: Bring watershoes the sand if not from local hotel can be quite grainy and annoyed the heck out of me to be honest, but my skin cant handle much :P their sunsets are to die for; but the sea shore from puertorico wth their awesome rock wall and bright pink flowers are soo cool. They have a dolphine boating trip there wich I KNOW you wil LOVE to see so do make sure you book that early on in your trip if you get the chance. make sure to book it anyways as puerto rico can use all the extra financial help they can get.

With the Wooden case- I was wondering, could you use an empty pen or marker casing to stick in the wells or empty lipcase for kids or samples, I remember some really small samples of lipsticks. Maybe bullet casings. I know those drilled holes are small but it looks like you might find something that might fit so you can change them out.
Have fun on your trip. Take lots of pictures for reference later. If you already went hope you had fun.

I impulsively bought that 37 well round porcelain mini palette earlier this year. I don’t know WHAT I was thinking - it took me a month and much anxiety to fill it. I actually had to buy more paint colors in order to do so. 37 colors. Ridiculous. That being said, I do use it - it’s very portable and the tiny wells aren’t a problem when it comes to picking up paint. I just find that I don’t need such a huge selection.

how adorable are these palettes , i bought 48 half pans and a bigger metal palette for not much on amazon, but i have tiny tins and the half pans and a mini silicone ice cube tray , also have some plastic med containers from some swedish i think pharmacy which already have a ton of wells but i need to know how long to leave paint in to dry and if i should fill the wells half way then let dry and fill the rest of the way or just fill half way so i'm not contaminating colors.... do you have a video just on how to fill a travel palette?

    • @SandyAllnock1
      @SandyAllnock1  5 лет назад

No video on that, no. But that's how the "pros" fill theirs - they fill 1/3, let it sit, then after it dries/condenses, they fill another 1/3, then wait again. I end up doing it all at once and it all squishes down :)

ha! i just build a mini sketchbook & various short pencils. all fit inside a tiny black jewellery box (65mm x 85mm). it contains double-sided sandpaper glued onto a thick card, an eraser, two mini stumps (one fatter, one leaner), an extra piece of paper-towel for smudging and a measuring stick. the mini-sketchbook i stitched it myself. and now google recommends me your video? i never mentioned to anyone, pure coincidence!
wish i could post a photo, it's a primitive prototype, but quite neat!
i want to design one next for white chalk, charcoals with kneader eraser, tiny chamois & toned paper mini-sketchbook. which would require a fan brush too inside. unfortunately, couldn't find a mini tiny-weeny ultra-short fan brush anywhere - and don't know how to make one myself.
first i am learning how to draw, one day, when i learn how to paint (oil) ... would love to design a mini pochade box for fun. shame i don't know any woodwork, proper sowing & so on.
this only happened in frustration, because i ordered a tiny sketchbook but the shop sent me a huge one instead. so angrily, i thought, i will make one myself, then saw a black box, a small pencil stub .. and had an idea. i won't commercialise or anything, way too busy learning how to draw. but done properly it could become v popular. maybe i'll mention to Dina Brodsky. but i am shy, enjoying a low profile.

These tiny palettes are so cute, but I have counted 36 colors overall and was thinking: I can put 21 half pans into a 12-half-pan set like this: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61qeqoftA-L._AC_SL1332_.jpg , carrying two of those means 42 colors and plenty of mixing wells, occupying less space then all these cute ones overall. And I would never use 42 colors on a travel. The 21 is more than enough.
