Sandy, I thought I would pass along a cautionary bit of advice. If using pans made of unpainted or unsealed metal the paint could ,over time, begin to rust them. Many cosmetic sets are used for compressed, dry powder pigments and therefore no need for sealing. It is a simple step of spraying a couple of clear or white coats BEFORE loading in you paints. If the metal pan looks dull or matte it probably isn't sealed.Hope this helps avoid ruined paints.Good luck on your trip!
I’ll use them up long before they rust ❤️
The pans look like they’re aluminum, which will not rust! Most makeup pans are made of die cut aluminum.
I've been wondering if these things rust. I'm also wondering about how what to use to hold the water. I,saw videos of painting their paintings while standing up, as if like they don't have a separate container of water to use to clean the paints off.
That armband is some undercover secret agent level supplies.
It definitely feels like it when out painting 😂
I would for sure accidentally turn my hand and have all the liquids on the paints pour on me. That's definitely not for me. 😂
That sketch book is SO COOL! How fantastic that you not only got to meet him, but have a signature and painting done by him, too.
That wrist palette is made out of a pill box. One of the things I really enjoyed with making my own pallets is using dry erase contact paper to cover the lid for mixing space. The other thing is to laminate an index card cut to the same size. What I've been doing is putting the contact paper down and then putting in a laminated card so that if I need the extra mixing space I can just take the card out and then still have the interior of the lid.
Great idea!
Blessings to you Sandy during your trip. Looking forward to seeing your work. Have a great trip.
How wonderful! Have a safe trip and enjoy!
Have a wonderful, productive time. I am looking forward to viewing your results and I LOVE these tiny palettes.
Have a wonderful trip! Will be excitedly awaiting your return and seeing all your creations.
Can’t wait to see what you accomplish! What a great trip and reason for doing it.
Thank you for going to help Puerto Rico. Your mini palettes are so cute! I never knew they existed. Blessings to you and your trip
What a great cause to be painting for. Thank you!
These are cute as heck. I love tiny palettes and watching videos on them.
I love tiny diy palettes, they are so great to take along. :) Have a nice trip and many many beautiful paintings!
Have a safe, inspirational trip! Looking forward to seeing what you create. Enjoy the food!!!
Oh my goodness! Your eyes are going to explode from all of the color, Been a few years since I've been but I loved it. Thanks for sharing the smaller pallets. And enjoy.
Enjoy the trip! Can’t wait to see your paintings
I hope you enjoy this wonderful opportunity!! Can't wait to see what you create! Wishing you safe travels.
Hope you are enjoying your trip! Bring back some beautiful paintings! TFS
Thank you for taking us along on your journey! Can’t wait to see these in action, especially the wrist band pallet - if I were using that one I’d certainly have paint everywhere! But it’s probably a great idea thinking it’s on the wrist of the hand holding the sketch pad or paper
Can't wait to see what you create with these tiny palettes. Enjoy Puerto Rico!
Thanks Sandy fir sharing this useful tips.
Wish you a safe and enjoyable trip 🙏
Omgoddess I love that sketchbook that's a really awesome idea to have different pa lo er es look especially with a liner in between...I know I'm watching this 3years later but honestly I cant believe that idea never took off more in the art community....
Anything that makes sketchbooks more expensive unfortunately dooms them…we don’t have big art budgets😖
My obsession with tiny palettes is so satisfied now! Lol! Have fun on your trip!
Have a safe and wonderful trip. May God bless you for doing this fundraiser as well🙏
May God watch over you as you travel and do your good works! And since I just started a watercolor class, your video was very intriguing.
Sandy, you find the coolest stuff!! I love all of these tiny pallettes. I hope you have a wonderful trip! hugs, treen
Hi, Sandy! So happy to stumble across this video featuring one of my Woodward and Father palettes! Thanks so much for including us, and hope you had a wonderful trip!
Hooray! I love the palette...fun to use while traveling!
Your little mini palette with 5 wells is my favorite - probably because I am a makeup junkie too!
Wow how fabulous Sandy! Great to see what you are taking with you to paint/sketch on your trip. Can't wait to see the finished projects. :O)
As a puerto rican who follows your channel and your work, I am thrilled and proud of your new project. Thank you so much for your initiative to help my island. I will most definitely wait for your paintings from PR. So want to buy a few from you. Enjoy your time there. Make sure you taste all the good food. God Bless. Looking forward for the paintings. Hope to be able to buy a few...
Have a wonderful time Sandy! I am so excited for you.
I have never flown before but my husband and I have decided to save up and go to Cuba next year (for our 40th Ann.) with our son & daughter in law. Where I don't swim, I plan to take my colouring and some w/c and do that in the shade for a week, so I am anxious to see how what you have taken works out for you. Of course I am merely a beginner at it so I am sure my colour palette will be much more basic but I am curious...Have a wonderful time and travel safe!
Exciting and informative! TFS and safe journey Sandy.
Yieeee tiny palettes 😍🤩
Thankyou Sandy.
Have fun!!!
So fun!
So cool. I remember when you went to Puerto Rico but I didn’t see this video before you went.
Fun video! Look forward to seeing what you create on your trip. You might find Naples Yellow a good addition to a palette for that area, too.
Have a wonderfully blessed time❤️
As I was watching some of your watercolor videos I perked up when I saw the cover of the sketchbook as I quickly recognized the painting and anxious to hear where I could purchase.
Omg!! Then, you casually mentioning that YOU attended an Alvaro Castagnet workshop!!
Wow! You flip the page and I see his signature and you proceed to show HIS actual painting of a silhouette featuring a group of people!!!
I’m not sure what you said after that, Sandy, as I was just “blown away”🙀
He, along with Joseph Zubrick and Thomas Schuyler are some of the best artists of our time in my humble opinion!
I’d LOVE to hear about that workshop! Have you ever watched “Color My World “? It’s a series that features different artists in different mediums. He was featured by himself and with Joseph Z (the 3 amigos)….
He is just fascinating to watch on tv. I can’t imagine see his work in person!
Sorry. I just had to stop and say something!! You just went over it so quickly….lol
Now I am curious to what other artists you have been taught by???
Thank you! That was a real treat!
Nancy Rolfe
He’s amazing in person! Though he’d rather tell stories than paint in classes sometimes 🤣🤣🤣
Have fun... have a grt time.
Can’t wait
Happy travels
Painting those steel pans is so that it prevents premature rusting.
Fun review. Thanks for sharing.
Wow!! Great Video!
such creative interesting options. I had a couple adorable small palettes but they did not work for me as I use large brushes and make a mess contaminating colors when I slop them around (honestly, I make a mess when I paint) plus I really missed having lots of mixing space. I settled on using the 12 half pan size Meeden tin , pulling out the pan holder which allowed me to fit more full size pans and that palette has loads of mixing space. To deal with sadness over losing the cuteness aspect, I added a decoupaged collage on the top of the tin. Have fun, such an exciting adventure you are undertaking for a great cause.
I ended up liking the metal square pans, they worked well for my bigger brushes. The wrist palette too. The wood one was adorable but not exactly practical 😂
I’m going on a trip soon, I have been trying to find a small palette and figure out what colors would be best to bring.
You should also check out the Portable Painter. It’s small rather than tiny but it has a space for your brush, TWO large water cups AND it balances on your knee while you paint!! You can get it at Amazon.
Sounds way bigger than what I’m looking for 😉
Sandy Allnock actually it isn’t. The water containers form a case for the palette. It’s about 1.5x8x3. Not big at all. About the size of two coffee crisp chocolate bars.
Ahhh you will soo love puerto rico. Been there, but small tiny tip: Bring watershoes the sand if not from local hotel can be quite grainy and annoyed the heck out of me to be honest, but my skin cant handle much :P their sunsets are to die for; but the sea shore from puertorico wth their awesome rock wall and bright pink flowers are soo cool. They have a dolphine boating trip there wich I KNOW you wil LOVE to see so do make sure you book that early on in your trip if you get the chance. make sure to book it anyways as puerto rico can use all the extra financial help they can get.
I love the wood one... I'm gonna make one for me
You could make it a nice custom size that fits perfectly in your hand. I love the feel of this one! Good luck.
I love cute travel palettes! I’m intrigued to know how you are going to transport your full size brushes, I’m always scared mine are going to get squished or ruined while travelling
Pringles can! 😂
God bless you!
My hero :)
Very useful video.
Interesting....
With the Wooden case- I was wondering, could you use an empty pen or marker casing to stick in the wells or empty lipcase for kids or samples, I remember some really small samples of lipsticks. Maybe bullet casings. I know those drilled holes are small but it looks like you might find something that might fit so you can change them out.
Have fun on your trip. Take lots of pictures for reference later. If you already went hope you had fun.
I impulsively bought that 37 well round porcelain mini palette earlier this year. I don’t know WHAT I was thinking - it took me a month and much anxiety to fill it. I actually had to buy more paint colors in order to do so. 37 colors. Ridiculous. That being said, I do use it - it’s very portable and the tiny wells aren’t a problem when it comes to picking up paint. I just find that I don’t need such a huge selection.
#😂💘 I love the wristband pallet. I'm also laughing because the paint pallet is a pillbox (I have one). The person was a genius for putting together the pillbox, magnets, & wristband.
Awesomeness 👍
How do you carry/store the second wrist pallete? Is there a cover that seals?
@@suemauer5965 Check out "Jane Davenport" wristband pallet. It's new. AND She has a RUclips channel.
how adorable are these palettes , i bought 48 half pans and a bigger metal palette for not much on amazon, but i have tiny tins and the half pans and a mini silicone ice cube tray , also have some plastic med containers from some swedish i think pharmacy which already have a ton of wells but i need to know how long to leave paint in to dry and if i should fill the wells half way then let dry and fill the rest of the way or just fill half way so i'm not contaminating colors.... do you have a video just on how to fill a travel palette?
No video on that, no. But that's how the "pros" fill theirs - they fill 1/3, let it sit, then after it dries/condenses, they fill another 1/3, then wait again. I end up doing it all at once and it all squishes down :)
2:00 oh, I thought that's a water cup with a lid on 😮
Interesting choices! When you use your (awesome) pillbox pallette, where do you mix your colors?
On the paper ...
Question: don't you damage your brush when using the small holes with the wood pallet?
Not if you’re careful. 😉
ha! i just build a mini sketchbook & various short pencils. all fit inside a tiny black jewellery box (65mm x 85mm). it contains double-sided sandpaper glued onto a thick card, an eraser, two mini stumps (one fatter, one leaner), an extra piece of paper-towel for smudging and a measuring stick. the mini-sketchbook i stitched it myself. and now google recommends me your video? i never mentioned to anyone, pure coincidence!
wish i could post a photo, it's a primitive prototype, but quite neat!
i want to design one next for white chalk, charcoals with kneader eraser, tiny chamois & toned paper mini-sketchbook. which would require a fan brush too inside. unfortunately, couldn't find a mini tiny-weeny ultra-short fan brush anywhere - and don't know how to make one myself.
first i am learning how to draw, one day, when i learn how to paint (oil) ... would love to design a mini pochade box for fun. shame i don't know any woodwork, proper sowing & so on.
this only happened in frustration, because i ordered a tiny sketchbook but the shop sent me a huge one instead. so angrily, i thought, i will make one myself, then saw a black box, a small pencil stub .. and had an idea. i won't commercialise or anything, way too busy learning how to draw. but done properly it could become v popular. maybe i'll mention to Dina Brodsky. but i am shy, enjoying a low profile.
Very cool!!
My mom gave me her old art supplies. And she had a set of mini brushes-no brand name-but there’s a teeny fan brush among them!
Hi Sandy, when you are going to visit Puerto Rico. I would like to meet you on Puerto Rico.
Email me, I’ll arrive in the morning...
Oh goodness. I just figured: Is a week pillbox not a perfect mini palet? You can use that as extra addition to put dr ph martin and or gouache in lol
Omg I am Puerto Rican !
Travel mercies when you go!
What is the link for the cuteness sake pallet you got that was empty?
They are all linked in the description.
love that wrist palette but cant find it anywhere online boohoo
Here it is: salln.net/2x1Wqzl
Have a good trip! P.S. I tried to get the palette links to open and keep getting an Etsy error message saying to check URL.
Oh shoot! I’ll go check.
Fixed now :)
When u put the paints in yourself, do u have to let them dry a bit before closing the lids?
Yeah I leave them overnight- they also shrink down a little.
Sandy Allnock that is good to know. Thank you for the information
Welcome to Puerto Rico, can you post your paintings here?
This video is a few years old…I had posted an auction at the time with my paintings 😍
What is the link for the Woodward and father pallet you got that was empty?
Linked in the description..
Do you know if they are going to sell them again?
The smallest watercolor pallet I have is actually a locket that I filled with six different colors.
Great review - but although that Japanese wood block thing is interesting, it looks totally unusable.
It mostly is. Feels really nice in the hand though, that counts for a little bit 😂
These tiny palettes are so cute, but I have counted 36 colors overall and was thinking: I can put 21 half pans into a 12-half-pan set like this: images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61qeqoftA-L._AC_SL1332_.jpg , carrying two of those means 42 colors and plenty of mixing wells, occupying less space then all these cute ones overall. And I would never use 42 colors on a travel. The 21 is more than enough.
With the wooden palette you probably could have asked him to make the holes bigger
Yes he's quite helpful at customizing :)
I limit myself to just 4 colors with my tiny palette
What are the 4 colors? Thanks!
Be careful with those metal pans..mine rusted and ruined 100 bucks of paint. Also they had a rust free guarantee
