I replaced my 3900X with a 5800X. Some ppl may consider this a dumb move, but I noticed that I didn't really utilize 12 cores (even video editing doesn't), and I wanted to sell the 3900X while I could still get a decent amount of money for it. Bought the 5800X for 370€ and sold the 3900X for 299€ (270 after ebay fees). The 5800X is noticeably faster in single core tasks, like saving large .png files.
I did the same thing, as my needs changed from workload to gaming, and are having a better experience. Bought my 5800x for 399$ and sold my 3900x for 350$ :D
I can say for sure that the 5800X is worth it. I usually like to game and watch streams, videos and use other software or so forth while I'm gaming which has been made possible with the 5800X. A fantastic CPU. Also the price difference between the 5800X and 5600X has shrinked and it only cost 70 dollars more for me to purchase the 5800X. I'd consider that a steal
Something that most users aren't aware of is that modern CPUs are very good at allocating resources in multi-tasking situations. Traditionally video rendering was a task that pegged your CPU at 100% usage and made it difficult to use the machine for other stuff. Today you can play games without any framerate drops while the CPU is churning through an all-core workload like rendering in the background. Even with a six core the computer doesn't turn into a stuttery mess when everything is pegged. It's great.

The 5800X wasn't a great purchase at launch, but at least it aged like wine. The heat issue can now be fixed with the curve optimizer, and it isn't as overpriced as it was at release.
A benchmark with Bannerlord! Surprised to see the 3900x losing to 5800x since I was under the impression that Bannerlord is capable of using a lot of threads efficiently, but that's why we have benchmarks :V
Yea it’s because Zen 3 single core performance is just leaps better than Zen 3. Over 30% faster in some cases. Having 16 very fast threads versus 24 threads that are 30% slower the 5800X not only beats the 3900X in games that want few fast single cores but also most games that can use all of their cores. Amazing chip. AMD did a great job on improvements going from Zen 2 to Zen 3. Can’t wait to see what Zen 4 looks like.

Totally would recommend an Arctic Liquid Freezer II (360 ideally). But you can undervolt it and not throttle your chip. Remember, they’re rated up to 90(Celsius) operating temps. Not ideal at all but just remember that. Refer to this persons post sampling different methods, and ultimately manually undervolting 5800x not only improved temps, but in turn, improved the cinebench score. Unaware of their cooling solution, but a good case/cooling setup should be adequate. It’s mainly undervolting www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/jrccrt/5800x_temps_whats_going_on/?sort=controversial
I have mine undervolted with a kraken x73 and don’t get temps higher than 55C in games with performance at the same or better than stock so no not with a good cooler
Room temp does matter a lot. I've reached 95c with the 110f (43c) heatwave striking at my house (I didn't turn AC for a while). Normally at 72f I would get 26c at idle and 67c at most.
5800x is a freaking toaster, though i only find it to shoot up in temps when doing very specific tasks, ive read other people saying their 5800x goes right to 80°c just by opening normal apps. i have to encode video to make it go that hard...
I've had the 5800x with my Gigabyte Aorus X570 board and it's running like a champ. Undervolted to 1.25 and with the NZXT Z63, I'm getting idle in the 38-42C range and 68-70C when doing productivity/gaming (~4.6Ghz). Fantastic CPU!
thats weird, your cpu might be heating more than normal or you should try to get a little bit more airflow in your case. right now im on stock settings, no undervolting, no overclocking. boosting at 4.5ghz at arround 75 c° and idling at 28-32c° with an id cooling zoomflow XT 240 aio

help! Whenever i do anything slightly intensive (export edited photos or make photo adjustments in advanced program), the cpu maxes out at 100% the whole time. I didn't expect that from these specs after reading about how well this cpu handles things. Suggestions? I even did basic overclock to 4.7ghz but get the same issue. I was told it can hit 5.0ghz but can't get the cpu there. Would getting a Ryzen 9 make much difference?
May I know the softwares you are using for photo &vdo editing? i have a r9 3900x paired with 3070 and 32gb of ram but the 5800x is a very capable cpu for the task you are referring
you stated that you were going to explore pbo 2 and curve optimizer in another video. However, your scores indicate you already did the tuning for this video lol. Hitting peak frequencies of 5ghz and averaging 4.8ghz in game, and hitting those synthetic bench numbers is not stock behaivor. Eitherway, the cpu is awesome.
5800x sounds like an excellent CPU for a general purpose and gaming PC. If I were doing a MiniITX build, I’d go with one of those. And a midrange GPU (when they are priced normally again). I think a 6c8t CPU is a bit light for future-proofing 3 or 4 years, whereas the 5800x should work nicely. For the Intel route, if I wanted something comparable, I’d go 10900K with the understanding that the TDP will likely be significantly higher.
I love my upgraded ITX for dev stuff. Runs VMs pretty fine and can open up two unity projects effortlessly. I was little wotried about teml, but turns out it was the climate affecting it a lot.
The thing about future proofing is that you can lower graphics and you'll coast by just fine I've yet to run into a game I straight up can't play with my shitty 6 year old i3-6100, GTX 1050 Ti and 8GB of RAM build but I'd obviously love to get more performance which is why I'm looking to upgrade soon So it also depends on how much you're willing to compromise in terms of the settings too to determine how future proof something is. Had I gotten a good i7 and maybe a 1080 back in the day I dunno if I'd be looking to upgrade just yet But that said, damn I'm kinda looking for excuses to justify grabbing a 5800X instead of a 5600X myself because I really don't need one but I just want one. The main thing stopping me is the price difference being rather big and the slight concern over the thermals, though my planned cooler shouldn't have an issue with that I don't think

@@Frey_64 It's not actually worth it to OC the 5800X. An all-core OC will prevent the single core boost, and that's really what helps with gaming performance. i payed 200 bucks for this in black friday, seems like an awesome deal tbh
The 5800X wasn't a great purchase at launch, but at least it aged like wine. The heat issue can now be fixed with the curve optimizer, and it isn't as overpriced as it was at release.
Hey I just got a 5800x. What do you mean by curve optimizer

I just bought a 5800x for $340 and the 5600x was selling for $299, seemed like a no-brainer to buy the 5800x.

I just wanted to say that this video was very well done, I recently had to cave and buy a prebuilt computer from HPs Omen line (shameful I know) it comes with a 3060ti paired with a 5800x for right around $1500, considering some GPUs are going for that price alone I thought it was about the best deal I was gonna get. Just waiting for it to be delivered to my local store now. Thanks again and cheers man!

In June, is the temperature thing, a problem for the 5800x or is it ok with a decent cooler?
Totally would recommend an Arctic Liquid Freezer II (360 ideally).
But you can undervolt it and not throttle your chip. Remember, they’re rated up to 90(Celsius) operating temps. Not ideal at all but just remember that.
Refer to this persons post sampling different methods, and ultimately manually undervolting 5800x not only improved temps, but in turn, improved the cinebench score. Unaware of their cooling solution, but a good case/cooling setup should be adequate. It’s mainly undervolting

What’s your cooling solution? Mine is running at 82C often times.
I built my mini ITX around the 5800X. Went with the white NR200P.
The thing about future proofing is that you can lower graphics and you'll coast by just fine
I've yet to run into a game I straight up can't play with my shitty 6 year old i3-6100, GTX 1050 Ti and 8GB of RAM build but I'd obviously love to get more performance which is why I'm looking to upgrade soon
So it also depends on how much you're willing to compromise in terms of the settings too to determine how future proof something is. Had I gotten a good i7 and maybe a 1080 back in the day I dunno if I'd be looking to upgrade just yet
But that said, damn I'm kinda looking for excuses to justify grabbing a 5800X instead of a 5600X myself because I really don't need one but I just want one. The main thing stopping me is the price difference being rather big and the slight concern over the thermals, though my planned cooler shouldn't have an issue with that I don't think

My job most of the time is with a lot of heavy excel files, power bi and python. The second purpose is for best gaming performance. Is the 5600x enough and great with those gpu or a 5800x would be better?
For those high end GPUs, I'd go with the 5800X, more and more games will perform best on 8 core CPUs in the coming years. It also has the best single core performance and will do great in office applications.

Im running with stock settings and docp enabled but i get significantly higher temps, during gaming i get around 80-85c during gaming workloads and around 75-80c when benchmarking in cinebench, my clocks due to temps are quite lower than your 5900x or 5800x, when gaming it usually sits at 4.55-4.6ghz. im now on second sample of my 5950x (which i had to return due to being faulty) and i get same temps, cooler mounted properly and seals are removed and thermal paste is applied manually and spread across whole cpu ihs, been building pc's for years now:) I came to the conclusion that it might be because of my asus mb bios set up defaults might cause this or possibly due to my ram because its dual rank, 4 sticks of samsung b-die 64gb kit, which might stress cpu memory controller but im just speculating at this point :/
It's been confirmed that Zen 3 architecture allows up temps up to 115° C. You're absolutely fine with the temps you're running with.
Just bought mine from microcenter the other day for $329 and I did sleep on the $299 price but all good
Thermals on this chip are higher than your listing. I have tried a Noctua NHD-15 to custom cooling and the thermals I am seeing are always higher than your listing.
Amazon has this for $359. Best Buy price matched and I had a $50 gift card so I just got this for $310. STEAL!! Nice upgrade from my 2700x. I had to lower the voltage to keep the temps under 70 degrees at 100% load but no performance sacrifice.
recently got this for 315$ totally worth it
