    ERRATA
1:37 One day, all RUclipsrs will learn not to quote prices that don’t match what’s shown on screen. But it is not this day!
5:01 I meant to say “127 FPS”, obviously
9:20 I wrote “around 500 FPS” in the script, but “above 500 FPS” came out of my mouth. Oops.
12:35 Yes, that was an opportune moment to drop a So Solid Crew reference, and I missed it. Sorry, I dropped the ball on this one.
    NOTES
This was all written before I learned about the 5700X3D. Right now I consider that chip to still be a rumour, and - if it is a repeat of the 5600X3D situation - then I will continue to ignore it after release. While I understand AMD needs to shift old silicon, products that are only available in one store in one country might as well not exist at all. All that being said, if it does get a global release, I look forward to reviewing it!

Been running one for a few months with a 5700XT, and it's an excellent 1080p budget combo for about £300. AM5, DDR5 and all that is great, but latter-end AM4/DDR4 is just too acceptable to justify the immediate jump for me. Before this I had a 1700X, and it lasted me just over six years before I really felt the need to jump ship. (though keeping in mind, I mostly play fighting games and more e-sports-y FPS). I reckon this generation of Ryzen will probably end up the CPU form of what Pascal was for so long, just sitting at the top of Steam component charts for the next half a decade because it's very affordable and "good enough" for the vast majority of people.

Single-Player Tarkov runs very well for me even with a bunch of mods installed, and the Modern Warfare 1 & 2 reboots run near flawlessly. Most of my other games are indie games or somewhat unoptimized JRPGs, but those run beautifully after a few graphical tweaks.
Disabling VSync actually helped me with frame stutters, and I barely notice any screen tearing if it's there. Don't doubt the combo, friend. This CPU and GPU are incredible and will make it through at least two more generations imo.

    1. The 5700X's PPT is ~76w at stock
    2. You let the Ryzen Master OC the cpu to the max which means it will hit up to PPT ~120w and will operate at much higher temps
Testing the 5700X at stock ~76w and OC ~120w will make the 1-2% difference in gaming.. a lil bit more in all core workloads.

@K.C-2049 I have a 5800X3D, allow me to let you in on an open secret: it is such an excellent undervolter that you can adjust it down to, say, 1.0275V and it will still auto-overclock with PBO to 4.4GHz. This massively brings down temps from stock- about 10°-15°C both idle and under load with a decent cooler. A $40 Thermalright Assassin or the like is more than sufficient for cooling. It does not require an expensive cooling solution. This also reduces actual wattage draw of the 5800X3D to 50-60 watts, which brings it within the 65W TDP expectation of the 5700X at stock.
The only reason to choose the 5700X would be the lesser base price due to having a limited budget, which is perfectly reasonable. But those other factors are in fact, non-factors with minimal and uncomplicated tweaking. Its almost criminal how high the voltage setting is at stock on the 5800X3D, because it is utterly unnecessary and the culprit of its perceived energy inefficiency.

The current levels required for 1080p and 1440p gaming are unlikely to change much, and haven't for a while. True, new hardware comes out and games get more demanding, but what you can get for your money has been pretty stable for years now, and with people less willing to spend money for the latest hardware the majority of Gamers work with ... :
PC GPU: RTX 1050 Ti to RTX 3060, which about matches the Radeon RX 6300 / 680M (R7 7735HS) to RX 5700 XT / 6600 XT
Consoles: About the level of a RX 6700 XT or RTX 3060 Ti
    VRAM: 8GB to 12GB
    CPU: Zen 2 Ryzen 8 Core ( like Ryzen 7 3700X ) / Intel 12Th Gen 10+ Core ( like Core i5-12500H )
    RAM: 16GB to 32GB
With AM4 supporting up to Zen 3, this means it is and will remain an interesting option for low- to mid-range gaming for a pretty long time.
The Ryzen 7 5700X isn't the only interesting option here, just the best compromise. If for instance you want a strong gaming PC, you might want the R7 5800X3D instead which gets you near an AM5 in gaming performance, or if you want additional multithreading computation power there also is the R9 5900X .
Aside from that there are many options for simpler Office to low-tier CPUs such as the Ryzen 5 4500, and AMD intends to release two new CPUs on top of things: The Ryzen 5 5500X3D and Ryzen 7 5700X3D - AM4 is far from obsolete.
Honestly, if I had any say in this I would keep the AM4 around as an entry level solution even for the foreseeable future.
    Back to topic:
For everything up to mid-range, just get yourself an R7 5700X with 2x16GB DDR4-3600 and pair it with either an RTX 3060 12GB or RX 6700 XT 12GB and you are good for years to come.

However, when I thought about it, the gains at 1440p with a 3060ti were minimal. It just didn't seem worth it for a few percent increase at best. I briefly considered the 5800x3d for $280, but I didn't want to be too heavily invested in AM4 with no upgrade options in the future.
Instead, I decided to go for a 7600 at $200, a budget AM5 motherboard, and some inexpensive RAM. If I sell my old motherboard, RAM, and CPU, I could probably get around $150 as well.
This way, I can have a few more years of upgrades on a budget, especially with future generations as they become older. Plus, with the money from the resale, it doesn't seem like a bad deal at all.

I picked up a 5700x last year around this time for $199usd, it came with Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection as a free gift, right now the 5700x is on my MSI B550 Mortar with 4 x 8Gb setup of 3600Mhz Cl 14, it is paired with an Intel Arc A 770 16Gb made by Sparkle as like you something to play with and helping test Intel Arc on AM4 platform, I have a few videos up with the 5700x / A770 working together as Intel drops drivers.

Decent modern chip. Yeah, you're stuck on AM4 but if you want to make a decent budget build and pair it with an RX 6650 XT or RX 7600 ... it's a pretty damn good value.

There's still the ryzen 5800x3d you could upgrade to eventually if you get a more powerful gpu down the road, so it's not a completely dead end platform. 5600 or 5700x with a decent Radeon is definitely one of the best performance per $ you can get right now.

10:15 The newer call of duty games are notorious for not utilizing the proper amount of threads that a cpu has. I have a i5 11th gen chip and it defaults in the config to only use 4 cores. Not sure if this is at all related to your issues, but it is worth checking out. What I have resorted to is go in game set all the settings to my liking, then close the game to desktop. open the config file and set the correct amount of core usage, then set the config file to read only. For me it says
//Thread count for handling the job queue
    worker_threads = "4" // 2 to 4
    And I change it to
//Thread count for handling the job queue
    worker_threads = "6" // 2 to 6
I did some experimenting with putting my actual threads vs physical cores..seemed to work better just using the core count for me. If might also differ between intel and amd cpu as I have heard. Sorry for such long message but this is pretty infuriating that call of duty can't even utilize CPU properly.. its absurd.

you know you're a smart shopper when you buy a cpu then see a video like this about it. i got mine used on amazon for $120 instead of $160 and it was basically just a brand new returned cpu.

I do recommend not running an overclock or curve optimizer. Although results may vary, I found there were always some anomalies where the performance was reduced or would have behavior issues. I decided to run my 5700x with the auto pbo and nothing else, and it does hit 4.8ghz single core while gaming with air cooling. The 1% and 0.1% low performance in this video has me suspicious that the chip was not running as well as it might have on default. Even though Ryzen Master software is AMD's first party software, i found whenever I ran the curve optimizer that i would have issues with stuttering and crashing eventually. I am using a gigabyte B550, so the default motherboard settings can matter as well I suppose.
Great video my man! Also really enjoyed the Radeon VII video, keep 'em coming! :)

a 5700x can't do too much. but a mild -curve optimizer is almost never bad. Won't make it any faster. And almost certainly don't be surprised if you can't go past -10 on these.
But anything is a gain there.
Use BIOS for this rather than ryzen master, and forget that ryzen master auto OC + CO feature, just curve optimize it.
You should spend time on memory clocks if you want it to be any faster (also probably not worth)

Back in April 2023, I bought an new RTX 4070 but still had a Ryzen 3600, I live in Southern California and when I was scrolling through offerup, a guy locally was selling an unbox new Ryzen 5700x for $100 USA , I messaged him asking why so cheap and he said it’s cause for his birthday he was gifted the cpu as well as a 5800x, so he selling other for cheap, I got extremely lucky lol

locked at 4.2 and undervolted. it is beautiful!

ye i like this cpu. mine runs all cores 4800Mhz . the difference between pbo and all core is like 2000 points in cinebench r23 . that is like 13% more !
i get over 16k and i have seen the new am5 7600 that is a six core cpu that gets like 14.9k . cheers!

Something I'd like to point out. Yer missing out on some additional performance (and temp headroom). Proper BIOS setup is key (instead of using crummy software). You'll want to go in and set up an undervolt via curve optimizer (I have mine running -20 on all cores). Also, you want to push the PBO2 max boost to as high as it'll go (should be +200 MHz). With this setup, my 5700X hits 4.85 GHz vs. yer 4.75GHz and averages 80C in a Cinebench R23 (15,600 multi and 1,570 single) 10 min loop on a 240mm AIO.

bought the 5700x two months ago for around €160, as an upgrade from my R3 3100, and it's simply incredible, it handled everything I trowed at it from gaming to video editing and 3D modeling, it's a great pair with my 5700xt

Interesting pairing.... 3100 and 5700xt... pretty sure that is a pretty decent bottleneck, so I can see why you are so satisfied :). Best value am4 cpu besides the 5600 and 3600

@@appsaucetech haha originally I had and RX580 paired with the 3100, so it was a balanced build, but one month before I bought the 5700x I saw the 5700xt for very good price, so bought already thinking on a cpu upgrade, so the 5700x was the right CPU on the right time

Bought mine last summer for 169 euro, used a 3600 before that.
I use DaVinci resolve a lot and the difference between the cpu's is truly massive.
Battlefield 2042 also runs WAY better, truly a night and day difference.
Enlisted and War Thunder also gained about 40 fps.
Oh and mine never exceeds 76 degrees, with a budget tower cpu cooler and only 2 fans in a midi case.

I am running a Ryzen 7 3800X that has comparable specs but was waaaay cheaper. And you know 'buying into an obsolete system' is kinda a moot thing with these chipsets as they all can run 100 of the top 100 games in 2023 at over 60 FPS but that is just me, the system I built has no RGB and the case is flat black because chrome don't get you home to use an old truckers expression. All in all I am pretty happy with the boot times, the playability and the temps that this new system provides :)
Thanks for the video super scripting, editing and content as usual
