    Have blue and brown eggs in my incubator. Using flashlights could see embryo and vessels in brown ones, but nothing except the air sac in blue ones. Same on your video, so now I see that's it's common, and it is not a fault of my candling technique. Thank you for sharing.

    Just a helpful tip for anyone thinking of buying a candling lamp; try the light on your phone first. I tried a commercial candler and a couple of LED flashlights, but the best candling lamp I have is the little LED light on my Motorola phone!

      If you have a flashlight, you might candle an egg. That way, you can check to see if there is an embryo before eating the egg.

    I just put my first eggs ever in my homemade incubator. I have mynown rhode island red and I bought 6 silkie eggs. I am so excited for them to hopefully hatch. I do have a question. Is it safe to put different stage eggs in the incubator? What do you do about lockdown when I do that?

    Hi! Love your video! I'm curious! If you incubated quail eggs, do you think it would work for budgie eggs, too?
    I had a mom abandon her eggs one time and I have to same candler and they were fertile from what I could tell (some veins) and didn't have an incubator!
    How do you think it would work for them and how often did you turn your quail eggs?

    What is the reasoning for turning the eggs 3x/day? Also the reason for stoping at day 17 (or 18, sorry)
    we hatched chicks for 4-h one year, but that was 22 years ago for me. I really don't remember turning them.
    Thanks in advance

    • @autumnswenson810
      @autumnswenson810 8 лет назад +1

      chris sprauer turning them ensure that the sack won't stick to the shell. For day 17/18 the chicken is getting ready to hatch so they are positioning themselves for cracking out

    Right next to my house, a mother duck hatched her eggs :D Unfortunately, she abandoned them, and now we took in 5 of them (the other 4 are gone) We started incubating in a homemade incubator, and I did some candling. I'm a little confused, because there is a very very clear air sack, but the rest is kinda dark. I may see some VERY faint lines right at the edge of the darkness, but otherwise, nothing. Help? Thanks!

    • @appalachiashomesteadwithpatara
      @appalachiashomesteadwithpatara  7 лет назад

      Sounds like they are fertile and developed. Since you don't know the exact timeline... it's a waiting game. ;-)

    I’m on day 20 of incubation of my duck eggs, I used to see them moving around inside, but now I can’t? Have they died?

    • @appalachiashomesteadwithpatara
      @appalachiashomesteadwithpatara  5 лет назад +1

      No. You have till Day 26. They are stuffed like sardines. Fill your incubator and leave them alone starting on Day 23-lockdown. Pray you get healthy babies. DO NOT open the incubator if you have pipping/hatching babies.
