    To answer a few questions:
In regards to Mrs. Dodds: Mrs. Dodds was a Fury, and she worked for Hades, so that was why Percy gave the helm to her.
In regards to Annabeth's necklace: If I recall correctly from the books, the ring on it was more of the good luck charm. It was her dad's collage ring that he kept in remembrance of meeting Athena, and he had sent it to Annabeth sometime after she left for camp as a peace offering. In addition, in the books she actually gave it to Percy before his fight with Ares.
Also, I love how Lukes only response to Percy's accusation at first was just to say "I didn't think you'd give them to Grover to wear", not even denying anything

Fantastic reaction, really enjoyed your analysis.
    To clear up some things:
The fight with Ares is 100% Percy. If Poseidon had interfered it wouldn’t have been one on one combat and Ares would have been allowed to keep fighting after being injured and wouldn’t have had to relinquish the Helm.
Annabeth’s family issues are complicated, but her issues mainly stem from her relationship, or lack there of, with her step-mom. Annabeth’s step-mom is the one that views Annabeth as the problem because to her Annabeth is just a kid with dyslexia and ADHD who is constantly causing trouble. Annabeth’s dad tried to be the peacekeeper in the family (not easy when your child’s mother is a war goddess) but when Annabeth’s dad and his wife had there own kids Annabeth felt unseen and forgotten and alone. Annabeth couldn’t see her dad was trying and that he still loved her, so she ran away figuring her dad didn’t want her anymore. Annabeth reaching out to her dad and deciding to spend the school year with him is a huge step for her, and is inspired by Percy’s relationship with his mom (btw I can’t remember when Annabeth meets Sally Jackson but it’s not for awhile) and also the fact that her mom actually did sort of reject her during the quest.
Rest assured Grover is in the other books…he’s just not always a main character. I’m not going to say anymore than that.
Camp Half-Blood is a “Summer” Camp but it is also open year round, and demigods can choose to stay at camp rather than return home. It’s safer for Demigods to stay as there’s a protective barrier around the camp, but Percy (who’s in more danger than your average demigod because he’s the son of Poseidon) is choosing to go home and spend the school year with his mom. He can go back to Camp anytime he needs to though. One of the books takes place during winter and Percy and friends go there for safety after a bad fight.
The Blue Food is from fight Percy had with Gabe when he was little, Percy insisted blue food existed and Gabe told him no food is blue. Sally Jackson, inspired by motherly love and spite, went out of her way to find blue foods (blueberries, blue candy, blue tortilla chips) and even started making any food she could blue (blue pancakes, blue chocolate chip cookies, blue Coke). The blue food is the symbol of Sally’s love for Percy and their bond.
I’m so excited for season 2. The Sea of Monsters is full of even more adventure than The Lightning Thief so it’ll be a little more action heavy so hopefully we’ll see a budget increase for CGI because they’re probably going to need it.

Thank you so much, I’m so happy you enjoyed it!! 🤩
Ohhhh I didn’t realize Poseidon helping Percy would break the rules of the fight. I LOVE that it was all Percy’s power!!! 🔥
That explanation of Annabeth’s relationship with her dad helps a lot! If her dad wasn’t necessarily bad and actually was trying and loved her then I get Annabeth wanting to give their relationship another chance. I love the fact that she was partly inspired to do it because of Percy and Sally’s amazing relationship!
YAYYY I’m so happy Grover will be back!
That makes sense about the camp. I’m glad they’re not just stuck there forever though.
OMG I LOVE THAT SALLY DID THAT FOR PERCY!!!! That’s such a beautiful example of the lengths she’ll go to to protect Percy from Gabe and make him happy 🤍

@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesignsalso, don't worry. Annabeth's feelings about Luke's betrayal is not glossed over, it's major point of her arc throughout the books and at times conflicts with Percy about it.
In the book, when Percy is in the infirmary (the events with Luke go down a bit different but I prefer the show version) Annabeth is quick to insist exactly what you have, that Luke is being controlled and that she can convince him to turn back to good and gets pretty defensive about him.

About the reunion: The way I read these scenes, Percy really went to the cabin reuniting with his mom, but instead of Sally changing and Kronos appearing... he just went home with her. To me, that explains, why he wasn't suspicious when his dream began at the beach. He probably thought he was just reliving a nice memory for a change.
Also, yes, Grover will appear again in the future :)

    • @EyeMCreative
      @EyeMCreative 6 месяцев назад +3

Yeah, I think that was the real reunion, it was just him reliving that important moment in his dream, because of course he would dream about that moment since it was so important to him. Also, I get that some people were confused by it, but I think it was a perfect way to make the pacing work of including the reunion and also transitioning to the dream to hint that it's not over yet, and build up some tension for the next season. And him waking up to see his mom there confirms that the reunion was real and probably went very similar to his dream, before it got dark and Kronos appeared.

I love how you talk about Luke in this reaction. IMO, he’s such a compelling villain because you not only understand his reasoning and logic, but empathize with it. He’s like Killmonger from Black Panther. Really good reasons to do what they do, but they go about it ALL WRONG.

    • @WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns
      @WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns  7 месяцев назад +11

EXACTLY!!! I can totally understand from Luke’s perspective how he thinks he’s doing the right thing, especially with Kronos manipulating him and lying to him. But he’s going about it the wrong way, even though he sees it as a necessary means to an end. Luke’s character is sooo interesting to me and so complex so it made the reveal way more intriguing than just if he was pure evil. This episode was so good!!! Btw there is also a musical for Percy Jackson. Some of the songs are really good. Especially the ones with Luke in them. They give such a good insight into Luke's mentality.
"The Campfire Song" shows Luke telling Percy how everyone at camp has parent issues.
Lukes song is called "Last Day of Summer."
And takes place during the betrayal scene.

So I've rewatch the series many times over the months now, I also listed to the soundtrack a lot. And when I realized that when Annabeth showed up to confront Luke during the betrayal scene the music got me.😢 It was the theme for the fields of asphodel. (The forest scene in the underworld where people are turning into trees because of the regrets in life.) This scene now for me feel more gut wrenching when I noticed this.😢

Also, I think Luke has like a little villain motif, sort of like Azula's chime in Avatar or Prowler's guitar riff.
Luke's sound, which starts around where Percy begins to piece everything together and only ends when Luke escapes, sounds like a soft ocarina... or an owl hooting. If it is that, fellow book readers know that'd be some insane af foreshadowing.
That or it was just added to add some flair to the music. I hope it's a motif though, that'd be really cool if it is

  • @emillypiety6289
    @emillypiety6289 6 месяцев назад +29

I think Annabeth started to suspect Luke during Iris' message. She and Percy say they know who stole the lightning and his response is "how do you know?" Instead of "who?" for someone as smart as Annabeth, that wouldn't go unnoticed

Leah (annabeth's actress) also thought the same!

  • @typo1345
    @typo1345 6 месяцев назад +21

Annabeth giving him her necklace is just a symbolic way of her saying she has his back, that he has her support (also her dad and her have a complicated relationship. The ring on her necklace is her dad's college ring. It's her stepmom who she hates)
    also
    *(spoiler to the very end)*
they changed up the very end with Luke a bit, but personally, it was a smart move.
So in the book, Luke starts monologuing about how the gods are bad while sharing a 12-pack of coke with Percy out in the woods, when a scorpion comes out of the ground and crawls onto Percy's leg. Percy begins to react but Luke warns him not to mess with it, it's a pit scorpion from tartarus.
That's when Percy starts to put it together. To put a long story short, the scorpion stabs Percy, Luke escapes and Percy just manages to get back to camp as he's rapidly poisoned for the second time in the book.
    Luke tried to kill Percy.
But I prefer this take in the show, because Luke in the books after the third book is much more nuanced and you can see his point of view, rather than some mustache twirling villain. I love that Luke tries to recruit him as a friend, after the prophecy says "betrayed by one who calls you a friend" not "one who you call a friend" and having Annabeth see it happen makes her conflicting feelings about Luke in the rest of the series make more sense. Also, Percy and Luke both tearing up in the scene is so great, it really solidifies that it's hurting them both.
Percy betrayed by a friend, he literally looks like his brother just stabbed him in the back.
Luke because he doesn't want to hurt Percy like this

The necklace as good luck is more explained in the book, but basically, Poseidon and Athena have beef, and Annabeth giving her necklace was to show that her and Percy, son of Poseidon and daughter of Athena, were united as one. Basically, giving Percy a feeling of not being alone in this, and showing the Gods that they stand together and will not let their parents' relationship interfere with their own.

@@WeCouldBeHeroesDesigns celestial bronze is a powerful metal wielded by th greek gods n their demigod kids. In th books it's explained that celestial bronze is mined by th cyclopes frm olympus. Th ore is shaped by tempering th metal in etna volcano n cooling it in th river lethe in th underworld. The metal is deadly to creatures of th magical world. Unlike mortals, demigods are also affected by it cause of their blood. Also, you should totally use the "hero shirt" design for one of your t-shirts, if you make another one. Also, a quote like "Do Gods dream?" with a trident or godly symbol of some kind would be epic, whether or that goes with the blue shirt or something different. Just some fun ideas

The blue food is a defiance thing from Sally. Percy is so confused for years why Sally always puts op with Smelly Gabe but the blue food is kind of proof that she doesn't completely. They kinda had a fight about the fact that there doesn't exist blue food, so now to piss Gabe off, Sally goes out of her way to buy or make blue food for Percy. It's even more special in the books where Gabe is even more abusive and Sally is far less strong against him. This small act proved to Percy that she is not completely submissive to that A hole and so it is his facet food, blue food.

The books already did a fantastic job of making Luke be a relatable, compelling villain. He has very valid points/arguments and you understand why people would come to his side, but he's just taking it too far. It makes sense that we as the audience, and Percy himself, are almost tempted to agree with him for a second.
But I think the show actually added to this even more by setting up the theme of the entire show to be about the contrast between Sally being this amazing mother, and the Gods not having anything to do with their kids, and Percy feeling abandoned by his father. Percy has had this internal battle the whole show about not wanting to trust the gods, and feeling betrayed/abandoned by his father. If Luke had tried to recruit Percy literally any earlier, he might've gone with him. Up until the arch, he definitely would've been on Lukes side, after the arch, he would've been more torn, but even up until the moment with his dad on Mount Olympus, I think he still might've strongly considered Lukes offer. It was that moment of his dad proving that he actually cares, that resolved that conflict within Percy and allowed him to forgive his dad (at least, start to, he might not be fully over it because that's been a lifelong trauma not having a dad).
So yeah, you can really see him calculating and considering what Luke is saying, because he agrees in some aspects, but he pretty quickly decides that Luke is taking his anger towards the Gods way to far, and war is not the answer. Walker Scobell did a fantastic job... I mean, he nailed Percy the whole show... but specifically he nailed that scene, giving Percy those subtle flashes of emotion in his eyes as he carefully considers and absorbs what he's learning. Luke's actor (Charlie Bushnell) also really got to show his acting skills here, the way his expression changes the moment Percy mentions his father, and so many other subtlety's of both of their performances were just so good in this scene. I loved it.

Regarding Chiron, he is what Grover described in Episode 2 - immortal trainer of heroes. In ancient Greece, he taught Achilles and Jason, just to name two, and was renowned not just for his skills in such things as archery and medicine, but for his kindliness, a rare thing indeed if you're familiar with Greek mythology. Rick Riordan basically just transported him into the 21st century, not changing his persona at all. Chiron will always have his protoges' backs.

Ares and Luke rigged the Mastbolt so it would appear in the bag when he was near Tartarus (the pit) where. kronos was banished. Where Kronos would've been waiting to take the bolt from percy. Tatarus is the depths of the underworld so all the worst monsters are there. If Percy fell into Tartartus he probably would've been killed by monsters or died trying to escape. Luke wants to recruit percy because he knows that percy will understand his point of view after his neglect from Poseidon. I also liked the difference between Annabeth and Lukes relationship from the books because in the books it was more like Annabeth had like a crush on Luke💀. So when Luke came back he was like do you still love me, like oh thats not..., like the age gap is so odd... so glad their like "siblings" in the show

Luke you can see where he’s coming from but at the same time under Kronos likely isn’t any better.

  • @christianpeterson2952
    @christianpeterson2952 6 месяцев назад +3

In response to what you said about the training being before and how that would explain how he was so good, Percy is the Son of the Sea God. He is much more so significantly stronger when he is in or near the sea/water.
In the books it explains as Percy being overwhelmed in the fight against the Ares Cabin. He was getting his butt kicked. But as soon as he hit the water, he said his mind cleared and he was able to see everything and suddenly knew what to do and how to do it.
Yes the huge wave was Percy. Also because of the fact, he is stronger in or around the water, he was able to do this.
Yes Ares makes Percy feel anger and aggressive emotions. Every god has a presence and makes the beings around them feel some emotion. Other gods have this effect on Percy in the later books and he is extremely susceptible to this because of his heritage. Because Percy is the Son of Poseidon, he inherited his moodiness. Percy’s emotional state shifts a lot like the sea changes weather from calm and sweet to unforgiving and merciless in a second. Percy is also very susceptible to negative emotions bc his fatal flaw which is a theme developed through the rest of the series, but which made him a candidate to Kronos’ manipulation in his dreams in this book.
Dodds was not good or evil. Just a being doing her job. Just like Percy, she was given a quest by Hades to retrieve his helm. She was genuine in her well wishes, considering her boss, Hades doesn’t really want a war and also Percy helped her by willingly giving her the helm back. She can’t really return to Hades without it. And the only way to prevent a war is for him to succeed in his quest and convince Zues to stop the war.
Zues is not in on it and he does believe Percy. But out of fear of Kronos, he keeps his head buried in the sand and elects to ignore the problem, hoping it’ll go away by itself.
That’s what makes Luke and Percy’s relationship so complex. They are 2 sides of the same coin. Their stories are mirrored in a sense. But it’s how their parents treat them during their 12-14 years that make them different in the end. Luke’s biggest miscalculation here was he didn’t realize how little glory meant to Percy. He was manipulating Percy from the start telling him that’s what everything was about. What the meaning of camp was. Luke wanted Percy to be too blinded by the glory of completing a quest to see his manipulation. So he could recruit him with the promises of more of it.
Luke’s motives are very complex as well. Again, it’s the treatment from his parents that drive him to being open to manipulation from Kronos. Can’t really say anything about them specifically without spoiling the series
It’s not mentioned in the series, but Annabeth had gotten a letter from her dad apologizing about his lack of care and how he treated her. Saying he wanted the chance to build their relationship back up. That’s how she got the ring on her necklace. It was an olive branch to her. In the book, while they were in the zoo truck, Percy convinced her to give her dad a shot at redemption due to the relationship with his mother. His naivety not realizing that not all parents are his mom. Which is an arc that plays into the last book. I believe this is also the regret so has in the Fields of Asphodel. She regrets not taking up her dad on his offer and try to rebuild her relationship.

I'm sitting here watching this reaction in your "brave the storm" shirt and PJO bracelet, necklace, and earrings on Percy's birthday because this story has had a hold on my soul since I was twelve 💙
Some fun facts and tidbits for you:
-Mrs. Dodds is neither "good" nor "evil." She works for Hades, and while her demeanor can sometimes be unpleasant, her only objective here was to get the Helm back. She had every reason to suspect Percy, which is how she became an antagonist. But as we saw, Hades isn't a bad guy, and neither is she.
-Annabeth gave her necklace to Percy as a good luck charm! In the books, she does it before his fight with Ares, as a sign that she was standing with him even if she couldn't help him directly. And if you take a closer look at it, you can see her dad's college ring hanging from it, which is sentimental to her. So it's a very sweet gesture.
-I was about to do some book to show comparisons but then I remembered that you said you were gonna vlog reading the book so I don't want to spoil it unless you want me to. Message me below if you do!

    Some things to note:
    1. About ares, you said they seemed like they were already enemies... In percy jackson, its more like a vendetta, and he'll try to make his life worse at every step.
    2. Mrs. Dodds. She is one of the 3 furies, who are basically hades's right hand servants. So yeah, he can trust them to have hades's best interests at heart
    3. Annabeth's necklace. You guessed right, each year at camp the half-bloods are awarded a bead. However, i interpreted it as a more of a goodbye and goodluck sort of gift because it held sentimental value to annabeth
    4. In my opinion, luke in the series made a wayyy better point than luke in the books. Plus, luke in the books sort of made it hard to like him or stand by his cause. But the only problem here with following luke is kronos, because Kronos doesn't have the shred of decency that the gods own
    5. Something that made me laugh, when you said "she's going to fight her brother" i thought, wait until she finds out that annabeth was meant to have a big, fat, mean crush on luke ever since she was 7.
    6. If you thought them alone, where no one can see/hear them was bad, wait till you hear that in the books, luke didn't even try, he just dropped a rare sort of scorpion on percy and made it bite him. Said scorpions poison was apparently incredibly hard to cure. In the books, he was aiming to kill percy since percy connected the dots about him being the lightning thief
    7. About Poseidon, i do believe he is one of the best fathers up there, because he is LITERALLY forbidden from interacting with his son, yet he still managed to do so much. Plus, sally and Poseidon and presented as though they are star crossed lovers, which may be the reason they added the "do you dream of mom"... Because that look was loaded with emotion.
    8. Luke and annabeth will certainly be hard to chew because its all so heartbreaking, especially as annabeth has liked him all her life and has even mentioned him as a "love"
    9. The end credits scene was to show what happened in the books in a different way, since in the books, sally actually freezes gabe with Medusa's head, sells the statue and thrives off the money.
    10. And btw, don't worry about the trio being split up for a long time, because they will have to go about their quest in the winter, mere 3 months from now. Plus, yes, percy is in a normal school and would go to camp in summer only.

Honestly, I like Luke, he gets harder to defend with each book, but he's such a complex character, I like it. The point is, whether the gods want it or not, they are responsible for Luke's way of thinking, their negligence caused this, it opened the door for Cronos' manipulation, this doesn't make Luke a victim, at least not completely, but it doesn't make him the villain, makes him a consequence of the arrogance and indifference of the gods. This duality makes me love this character.
2:54 In this scene, Luke wants to say that in the magical world, monsters and gods are bound by the rules of the ancient world (from Greek myths), Example: such as the oath by the river Styx, which is an unbreakable oath, When Percy challenges Ares to a single combat and uses the rules of the ancient world to his advantage, in a real combat with Ares he would certainly die whether or not Ares is a god.
5:43 What drips from Ares' leg is called Ikhor It is the blood of the gods, in Greek myths every being of divine origin has this blood and the reason they live for a long time and those who have it in its purest and immortal form (gods)
7:05 Dods didn't try to kill Percy, he tried to capture him and take him to Hades because he thought he had the Helmet, Furies are neutral spirits of revenge.
8:47 This necklace is the glory that Luke talked about in episode 2, each stone symbolizes a successful mission.
12:12 Zeus wanted to continue the war because he is proud and this would make him have to admit that he was wrong about Percy and Poseidon stealing the master bolt.
14:38 The scene remains emotional in the series but I prefer the one in the books, Poseidon saying to Percy "Your mother is a queen among women" and one of the lines I like most in the first book
21:59 Gods, the way Luke says Annabeth breaks my heart, the two of them looking at each other conveys so much emotion.
25:36 Annabeth's family issues are more complicated than that, I'm sure it will be explored better in the series, but it doesn't follow the line of "My father hates me" and more "parental neglect" which we can say is not just her father's, Athena doesn't show herself to be a very good mother
34:59 Don't worry about the Annabeth and Luke relationship, it will be very well explored, Annabeth will be like Luke's remnant of humanity and sobriety, this is very evident in the books
Thank the Gods, Disney Plus confirmed the renewal of the second season so we will have more Percy Jackson soon, time to work on the gift of patience, What is a few months for someone who has waited more than eight years? 😅😅😅😅😅

    Okay, fine, last comment. xD
Sally only tolerated Gabe because, to the monsters, he stunk. He reeked of human so bad that he covered Percy's demigod scent. So him turning to stone and being out of their lives symbolizes Percy and Sally being free of him, not needing his protection anymore because Percy can protect himself now. Also, in the show, they toned down his abusiveness quite a bit from the book, so it made a lot of sense for it to be left open to interpretation if it was an accident/karma, if the Gods did it, or if Percy did it. In the book, Percy totally did it, but it was more morally okay because he was essentially another one of Percy's monsters in that context. But yeah, I feel like the answer to a lot of your questions are "read the book to find out more details" xD

I've already replied too many times, but I love these books and this show so whatever. I didn't see anyone address this yet:
The books explain a bit better, but essentially Camp Half Blood is a "summer camp". The demigods train there during the summer so they can try to live normal lives, while knowing how to protect themselves if someone comes after them. Most demigods don't have to worry too much because their godly parent's don't give them as strong of a "scent". However, the big 3 have a much stronger scent, which is why Percy is in a bit more danger than the others and why he saw more creatures growing up. Also, I think Percy's mom was worried he wouldn't be able to leave once he got there, which is why you thought that at the beginning.
Certain kids will stay at CHB year round if they don't have a home to go to, and Annabeth and Luke and a few others were full-timers until now, when Annabeth decides to give her dad a visit. Her dad was never bad to her, it was more that she was special to him until he married, and her step-mom hated her and saw her own children as special and Annabeth as a problem that always got "her family" in danger, essentially. I don't believe her dad fully sided on this, but just the fact that he stayed married to her despite the way she treated his daughter made Annabeth resent him for not supporting her better and allowing her to feel like an outcast. So he's in the wrong for that but it was more about the step-mom, and I think Annabeth saw how important Percy's relationship with his mortal parent was, and decided she should give her dad another chance and try to forgive him. Does that all make sense? lol
Once you read the book I'm sure that'll clarify a lot for you, but this is the non-spoiler backstory I can give you that the show didn't have time to include obviously.

percy's meeting with his dad was much more cold in the books
im exaggerating, but posiden was basically just like "oh you made it.. its pretty unfortunate that youre alive..😬 you being born was a mistake, so sorry abt that, but we can this work. your life is gonna suuuuck tho. just dont embarrass me"

Im much more hesitant about labeling luke as evil personally, like i think hes really more of a violent revolutionary who took the power he felt he needed to topple the frankly horrible and oppressive structure of the gods from a probably far worse one in kronos.
The angst of him desperately hoping he could get percy and anabeth with him, but just having it all fall apart at that last minute and having to fight percy and run a way from his sister is so tragic.
I mean definitely should not trust the original big bad kronos and maybe a lil naive if he hoped sending percy down the pit to kronos with the masterbolt, that kronos would just be super chill and percy would understand and join them.

So the thing about Luke is he’s right with his reasoning and wrong about going about it in the way he is.
For example he was 12 when Thaila was turned into a tree, and he went on a quest not long after that. And Kronos started getting to him right after his quest so he was brainwashed for years before Percy showed up, and screwed over time and time and time again by the gods.
Also in this when it came to Luke’s look after Percy sliced him, it was more of anger that Percy hit him, so he retaliated. However he wasn’t going to kill Percy because during that fight there were multiple times he could have gotten a killing blow in, but didn’t. He was the strongest fighter at camp for over 300 years and Percy’s good but at this point Luke was better.
He wants to recruit Percy, and when Annabeth showed up he didn’t want to have to fight or hurt annabeth because she’s like his little sister.
I HOPE THIS HELPS ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAD ON THAT I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS SO MUCH!

SOOO TRUE about Luke having the right intentions but going about it the wrong way!!! I didn’t know Kronos had started manipulating Luke years before Percy got there. I can totally see how Luke could be influenced by that, especially being a traumatized kid at the time. I like that you said Luke’s look was more anger that Percy actually got him. Annabeth showing up seriously saved Percy and made Luke run away. Omg the entire reveal scene was sooo good!!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, I’m SO happy you enjoy my videos!! 🤩🤍

Sorry English is not my first language. About the necklace, it has Annabeth's father's ring and it is one of her most precious possessions. In the book, she hands over the necklace before the fight with an air like a good luck. Then their good luck begins 🫢
