Fun fact, in the scene where Percy and Grover are talking to the Principal at Yancy, the man sitting on the left of the screen is actually Rick Riordan, the author!
I too had my introduction with the movie 🤢. I got three episodes into this and was enjoying it so much I went and found the audiobook (a little over 8hrs). There are changes, but without them I think the show would have been a mess of travel montages. They opt for more character drama instead which I feel works. Really beautiful show and solid acting all around. Look forward to sharing 😁
What a good analysis from a new fan! As a decade old fan of the book series it warms my heart to see new people come in and connect so much with the story!
i fully agree, the changes, albeit can annoy some people, its exactly the type that just potentially cant work in a live action adaptation, as you said, it would have been a trvel montage and with how short the book is, even less tension in the slower episodes and a case of "nothing much happens", even more so when the first book can be categorised as a lot of side quests.
As someone who is a HUGE fan of this series (I own all 22 books and this universe is probably my favorite fictional work) I LOVE this series and hope you continue reacting
I read all five books a long time ago. I just realised there is a sequal. I knew there would be one because it was teased at the end with Rachel delivering a new Great Prophecy but I didn't know they already exist.
@@muhammadfaisal5Y5 after pjo there's heroes of olympus saga *its about the seven prophecy being mentioned at the end of the last olympian* with 5 books *percy isn't the main character, it has 7 povs*, then there's trials of apollo, then there's the magnus chanse ones which are with egyptioan myth i think and another one with norse mythology. all in the same universe.
It's a great adaptation of the book. What stands out most to me is the cast, they are so well chosen and I like the acting a lot. To me it does have some pacing issues but I think that's because they constantly have to catch up anyone who doesn't know Greek Myhology. In the book you have time for that, in the show you want to trim down on exposition. And some of the dark scenes are waaay too dark. But it feels more like nitpicking. I really like the cinematography and creature designs. Overall job well done and enjoyable to watch ^_^
As someone that read the books when they were releasing back in the day, though I cannot say this is a picture perfect page to screen adaptation it is doing exponentially better at seamlessly adapting than the films did, and I believe that is heavily due to the fact that the author is directly and heavily involved in the production of the series, thankfully! I’m not sure if it will be addressed in the show in the same way, but I believe the ADHD/dyslexia in the first book was tied into the fact that the Greek language was hard to read
the adaptation is good, it's not a 1 to 1, and realistically when is an adaptation that? harry potter and lord of the rings movies have had massive chnages from the books. i'd say as a book reader the show keeps the characterization, heart, themes, teachings, and stories from the books, the locations and plot points, just various changes in between them for exposition, transition and drive of storylines. for me it's a good adaptation. also the kid actors just CRUSH this show, every single one, especially walker are acting their asses off.
You're gonna have a lot of fun with the series! Better than the movies so far. I can't wait for the Sea of Monsters adaptation! I enjoyed the Lightning Bolt movie as a kid for what it was, the 2nd one... Not so much.
As a fan of the books I can say the show has been really good!!! Yes there are some changes but it’s nothing I’m really bothered by. It’s pretty close to how the book went!
Re commenting for algorithm gods. Just in time. Next week is last episode and I don't want my PJO journey to end, happy to prolong it with you. This is not masterpiece of a TV show but it's super fun and adapted great to me and besides little nitpicks I'm not complaining.
There are two actors who are playing Percy. Great casting, it almost looks like they digitally de-aged Walker Scobell. I didn't mind the movies even though they weren't super loyal to the books. This series is much better though.
As someone who saw the movies like almost 10 years ago(and have read the books not so long ago) I did enjoy the first one although they weren't a good adaptations. And even if u look at it as something individual it still had some plot holes as well as they changed so many origin greek mythology aspects to fit into their narrative. The movie took some parts of the book and instead of elevating those they made it more flat and bland. Them aging up the characters was already ruining the whole general plot of the first five books and not only that the characters had no personality. If u look at it it really was a generic hollywood movie which is kinda sad to say because the books have so much layered meaning to things and its overall plot. The show on the other hand while adapting it ofc they made changes as well but they r good changes, they only elevate what the books had gave and made it smarter I feel like since the book was also written so long ago the author himself stated that he would like to fix some things. I think ur gonna enjoy it more and more as its gonna progress and see the world building when it comes to this adaptation. I wish there was more runtime for the episodes tho but given what they had i feel like they r doing an incredible job and the writing is sharp and smart.
I was REALLY disappointed when Brosnan didn’t return for the sequel. Wasn’t until a couple of years or so ago I found out he (supposedly) didn’t return because he felt the movie wasn’t faithful enough to the book (I think there’s also stories suggesting he just wasn’t asked back). Pretty sure they also had to recast the camp director aswell
@@nickcollins5191 yeah it's a bit of bummer they didn't kept the story faithful to the books... I don't even remember much from the sequel tbh. The first was ok... but the books are much much better. I don't remember details from the books much either I've read those boos like 10 years ago. The tv show seems to be good enough, even though I think they changed things here and there.
The first couple of episodes caught my attention but to be honest, a few episodes later disappointed me in terms of quality. It started to feel “kids show” rushed but this weeks episode had the same quality as the first two so I’m feeling better about the series as a whole.
From an adaptation point with some of the changes, they lose the themes. Some of that characterization is just completely whack. And the stakes are pretty much non-existent compared to the books.
I enjoyed the movies for what they were, but this show is so slow, uninspired and not one actor draws my attention, which the movies did. This is clearly aiming at 12yr olds and below.
