The entire skate-streetwear cross section owes a debt of gratitude to Gonz. He's one of the few out there actually living it and keeping it real, rather than riding someone else's coattails.
Skateboarding and art really go hand in hand. So much style in both fields. Just as you see a Silhouette of someone skating and recognize who it is, you recognize a piece of art in the same way. Watching this, I felt so comfortable. He’s the essence of what og skateboarders are, ngaf.
As he once said "My life is poetic. It is better to live in a world of poetic meaning rather than hardcore reality". He seems like he has stuck with this belief and I'm genuenly happy for him. What an icon
I feel like Mark is the coolest guy. He is totally without ego. He could be walking around in underwear and still look cool doing it. He knows himself and what he loves. And from what I gather, he loves people, art, and skateboarding, and pursues those loves with passion.
Mark has been an inspiring figure for me since I discovered skateboarding back’n the 90’s. I never was most skilled on a board but know I had the most fun on and off it.
Yeah but since that’s the schtick he’s going for it kind of loses it’s value. Rich guy dresses like poor guy really isn’t all that interesting or unique.
People are talking a lot about where skateboarding is at, what's wrong with it, what's good, and what needs to change. All we really need to do is look at Gonz, then everything becomes clear as day.
The problem with skateboarding is it stuck it hasn't progressed any. You have to look at it Rodney Mullen is single-handedly responsible for skateboarding as we know it today. Heather not been Rodney Mullen Gonz wouldn't exist. Virtually every single skateboarding trick that we know today was invented by Mullen or he had his hand in it. If you look at modern skateboarding design that is completely one-hundred-percent Rodney Mullen's doing. Outside of the Supertramp where is skateboarding actually grown? And what I mean by that is if you look at the skating from the mid-90s early 2000s nothing's really happened in a major sense. Skateboarding is just stuck in the era of 1990 - 2000. If you're honest with yourself you can openly see this and admit it. All the major tricks that we know in Street where invented and perfected in the Years between 1977- 2000, in vert invert the 900 was landed in 99 by Hawk (super ramp does not count super ramp because that's just a bunch of BS in my opinion, if you can't do it on a halfpipe you can't do it). the reason I say that about super ramp is because all you have to do is build a caller rant once you do this you get more speed which means you get more air which means you get more Hang Time on a halfpipe you don't have this luxury. If you look at it snowboarding BMX hell even rollerblading and even the dreaded scooter has progressed more then skateboarding has in less time. Now don't get me wrong I love skateboarding I'm 47 years old now spend the majority of my time on a longboard or a nice pentail. But skating is nowhere what it was in the 80s and 90s.
I've never been on hypebeast before, I'm still not sure i know exactly what it is but this video was in my suggestions cuz tha GONZ! i fucking loved this, i love the Gonz and any insight towards his world and his mind. Krooked's #1, you're #2!!
He’s living a life people are afraid too live. I respect that.
Afraid to live lol easy
True as hell
Hes a cool guy, and his art is so cute lol :3
care to explain what others fear about his lifestyle? not trying to be rude, just wondering!!
@@elijaw6746 he has the courage to live. Most people won’t skate that age. Or paint and dress with out a care of other’s thoughts.
A lot of kids today need this video. Thank you Gonz.
Okay Jason
@Jason Hernandez You're just a bot.

Fact
Money on the line?
this is all by design
& dont source how you stole/learned the trick
califorinia tony hawk started this nonsense to the olympics & he is the most jaded sk8r EVER
Gonz is a rare breed that truly understands what it means to be alive.
This is probably my favorite Mark interview to date - love the line about not having a “reason” to do something but following an instinct...
The entire skate-streetwear cross section owes a debt of gratitude to Gonz. He's one of the few out there actually living it and keeping it real, rather than riding someone else's coattails.
"The entire skate-streetwear cross section owes a debt of gratitude to Gonz." lol the state of this foppish idiocy
@@catsploitation I'm not the foppish one, the cross-section is. And I'm saying they owe a debt of gratitude. Kapiche?

This is ABSOLUTELY the best thing I have seen in a while. Side of the Gonz that everybody hears about but not everybody sees. The artist side!
Mark has been an inspiring figure for me since I discovered skateboarding back’n the 90’s. I never was most skilled on a board but know I had the most fun on and off it.

Back in the day. Me and my friends use to skate down Southern Ave (South Gate) just to see Mark skate. He was and still is a bad ass. TeamAirBones 💀

He must be the funnest person to shoot photos of and film! Literally one of the greatest skaters of all time!

Definitely a great man, im still skating his board at 45
Love this dude. total free spirit
Mark is a legend! I'd wager most people outside the skateboarding community walk by him on the street and assume he's a homeless guy.
Little do they knows he’s worth 10 million and is a legend
Exactly!! He is a national treasure
Rodney is a legend. Mark is a pioneer

Homeless guy with a 700 dollar tie though.
