Inside Mike Gigliotti’s Iconic Skate Shop | Let it Kill You

- Our new series ‘Let it Kill You’ premieres with a highly anticipated episode featuring Los Angeles' own Mike “Lottie” Gigliotti. This episode delves into the story behind Lottie’s Skateshop, exploring Mike’s unparalleled approach to his craft and providing an in-depth look at his journey to becoming one of the most recognizable skate artists of our time.
Created by Ben McQueen and produced by Trevar Cushing, Let It Kill You is named after the famous Bukowski quote about finding the thing you love and then letting it drive you into the grave. The series is a suitably intense examination of the nexus between skateboarding and art, and the first three episodes are deep dives into the art and skateboarding careers of Ryan Townley, Mike Gigliotti and Michael Sieben.

its so awesome to see what Mike did for his local scene, and continues to do for skateboarding.
it's so awesome watching a company go into banqurutpy
he didnt even do nothing for the local skatepark.
Okay,
I started watching and at the first minute need to make a comment.
This man is an artist.
Artists have no boundaries and civilization need to bless these people.
In art, you might not want their work, but admit it if is capturing, then they did what art should do.
My man Mike! He's helped a lot. He was around when we did Palace Internationale in like 2015-2016. Then opened up his store in the city. In the hood too. Really Really great guy
Suuuper dope video. I can honestly feel what he means when he says "That was that" with the old skate shop and not opening a new one. No one can ever recreate his times in that shop with those people. Good feelings all the way around.
This is hard to watch but at the same time super helpful. I just closed my shop that was everything to me and seeing this gives me hope for my future. They say all good things come to an end but watching this helps me see otherwise. It makes me feel like I’m not alone. Thank you❤
i was about to cry when i found out lottie’s closed because i always tried planning going there and it was a dream of mine
same😔
Damn, this came at the right time. Been in a creative rut with my custom board designs, but this has given me some motivation to start pushing out some more
just recently my local skate shop just announced its closing , this video hits home , UK Norwich drugstore skate shop, was one of the most important places growing up for so many, as an adult getting into skating in the last few years has opened my eyes to what was there and always has been! the shop has severed the community and will be greatly missed , Sam owner of drugstore reflects, i feel quality's that mike also embodys within skating and its many forms , this was such a great watch and even had me shedding tears towards the end to reflect on my own skate community , thanks for such a great video and heres to all the skate shops out on that grind for what is good in the world , thank you
Humble, creative, inspirational, always willing to help others, and give props to people who are also doing good things. We need more great dudes in the world like this.
I wasn’t expecting to cry at the end.
I really needed to see this today. It’s a good reminder of how important it is to have PASSION for your work. 💜
This feels better than old Vice. Love it. And Sammy’s cools af
Mike helped me and a friend out when we visited the shop and we had a fun little conversation over our favorite childhood video parts. I got my sister a tee for christmas and my friend got a hoodie. he leaves that hoodie in his car so he pretty much wears it whenever we go out, so the good memories of the shop still exist with us. need to find that shirt cus i dont think my sis ended up liking it lol. was sad seeing and hearing why the shop closed but im just glad the dude is still thriving and is unbothererd by it
this the best video vice has put out in a long time
skated with him before was a pretty chill dude. i used to skate with alot of cats that were hanging around les and supreme back like in 06-09.
thanks a lot for this, mike is one of the best artists in the skateboarding world right now! love his work!
Love this guy's artwork. Wish I had all his decks
Nakel smith took Lottie’s and independents iron cross from us.
And gave us back half of a mid part the better part of a decade ago
Controversial comment but ya man not wrong
wym? I'm a little behind on the LA scene stuff
@@whodat715not sure bout the independent stuff. but nakel had a problem with lotties and sent people to jump lotties locals. it’s extremely unclear as to what nakel’s problem was.
@@piggytrombone thats bullsh**. lotties did nothing for the local skatepark in the area . but shat on it constantly. people at that local skatepark there rode for F.A. and its even nakels local skatepark. lottie didnt know that. and when an altercation happened at the park with a few bad kids , was quick to respond and tell people to never go to the park. and it rubbed nakel the wrong way , because lottie never did anything for the park. thats what happened. i live right between the two.
“I hate computers” - best quote 😅
I'm a fiber optic lineman and I used to build cell towers I hate computers and the Internet fr so much

Dystopia font has me geeking
I miss that shop. It was the perfect skate shop. Stoked that you're making great art and still hanging with Sammy!
Yepp.. Nostalgic is exactly what I feel watching this. Just takes me back. They, what they talk about, and through our memories, they sort of front the vibe of a whole generation that grew up back then, you know.
Lotties Always presents different colors and flavors in each image
Good stuff. I’m going to rewatch all the Lottie’s videos now.
Great ep. I wish you didn't force me to search "Why did Lotties Skate Shop Close?" You could've just added that into the ep. Especially I'm sure an extra 3 minutes would just make your boss happy.
If I remember correctly (as an outsider), telling the story would require some of these dudes throwing teammates under the bus. I’m cool with it being left out because it would’ve really changed the tone of the whole piece.
Why did it close?
@@iminmissouri8589 legally I can't talk about it.
@@iminmissouri8589 because Nakel Smith is a kook
yes why? dont let me google it too
got a tattoo of one of mike's designs last year. he is just killing everything the past few years. Baker did well getting him on board !
A Likeable and Talented person who will inspire many others along his path Thanks for this.
I love this man Mike, he took care of the community, he inspired me to live life with friends and with a passion but seriously thank you mike for everything
Rad shop, rad scene, rad stories! May your next chapters be just as amazing.
Nakel Kook Smith
Who’s that?
Nak ain’t no kook
Did nak have something to do with the shop closing? Or you just randomly calling nakel a kook? Which is fine.
@@Meadiateam123 yes
@@EarthTonez you’re right.. you’re the real kook here.. ratio btw.
That is funny as hell. In the early 2000's I was working at a skate shop in Michigan. Bootleg came out just a bit before shakejunt, anti. Always thought that it looked alike and had to be under the same umbrella
This is so beautiful ❤
***** Epic. Respects to the people that were skateboarding in the 80z..... NYHC .....
Such a talented guy! Love Mike’s work! I’ve been wearing his Vans collab pants forever! So comfy & look so gooooood! Love Lottie! ❤
amazing first episode! amped for this series
Super inspiring! Mad respect to Mike n the Baker boyz 🔥
I would love to meet Mike, seems like the coolest and most inspiring dude ever, this video was so good

Incredibly inspiring! I wish there were still some cool skate shops around here.
Im 50yrs old..and still skating..its hard now lol..but im still rollin..get out there !!!!
thank you for this video, such a great surprise. I've been following Mike on insta for a few years now.. I think a... my memory is f--kd.
Anyway, what I wanted to say is > as an artist myself, you are one of my favourite ones, def top 5. Sending you love and never ending inspiration :)
peace, love & anarchy

I’m in the Midwest, seeing this shop is on my bucket list. Yes, bucket list of things before I pass on.
It closed a couple years ago
The custom pants are SO FIRE
If anyone knows why they closed and can summarize it. Would you explain!
Skateboarding greatest mystery
Yea quit teasing us Vice
Nakel smith breaking kids boards that had lotties on them. It’s his fault they had to close
Nakel smiths fault
Is this Nakel Smith some sort of thug?
3:22 the joint in the side is relatable af
i miss the shop thank you mike for everything you did for me there
this dude used to kill it free styling on Alex Olsens podcast 'skate wise" wish it was still online that sht was so funny. Great artist as well, I got one of the flowers sweaters :)
Wish I knew it existed when it was open, seems like a skater’s dream come true..
VICE, I can't get enough of your content, so I subscribed!
Best skateshop to ever exist Sammy, Louie, Mike and Chris always holding down Adams blvd
So stoked by the title alone. I was trying to figure out to get rid of fleas. Now we're here hahahaha very damn nice Vice
To me the coolest thing about skateboarders is everything but the skateboarding
idk the full details but i know nakel smith called them out for not caring about the community (which is clearly a lie now watching this video). soon after nakel did that they announced the shop would close.
@@tonymontepeque6877 I saw something on Slap about primitive credit card holds took them down? I have no idea
This was beautiful love skateboarding 1000%.....
Sweet episode! Enjoyed THOSE 30MINUTES SO MUCH~ GREAT PEOPLES!!!!
i am so stoked to have met you man lotties
i have always respected Mike from a distance but when he starts to name the other shops, it solidified it.
this was so good. I follow him on IG and im an artist. truly inspiring and great Vice video and people
Whats his @?
Mike _Lotti_ found it haha!
can anyone explain what actually happened to the shop then?
No lol
theres no point too
@@planetchopurcockoff shame to hear but i can respect it. all the best for the future
Yes i wanna know now
I just stumbled across this video randomly. Don't know the people involved. But I was curious and looked into it and did a lot of ridiculous reading. The main thing that comes up is this thread "nakel lotties rant." Go to page 50 and you see a "local" giving the story but then a few posts later someone else shows up and calls BS on that story and gives a different story. I think that different story is the right one (just based on a hunch).
Super talented ❤
I wonder if he's talking about Ed Templeton with a projector
For real?
Thanks for this guys
I love Mike. Used to hang out with him at the shop all the time
Such a ledgend. Bought my first board from Lotties. this might sound like. a strange observation -- feel like Shia LaBeof took a lot of inspiration from Mike he looks and sounds so much like Mike
such a great video
Thank you for this video ! This is so inspirationnal
I love the baker brand and I have a board I got back in 2020 trying to get back into it my son has it now and I’m pretty sure it’s his design and I love that board
Yes!!! Keep up the positive work, Mike.
What a TALENT
So dope big inspiration ❤ i myself am an artist me and my wife design stickers for my boards or my homies started off selling edibles and givin a free preroll and a sticker. Started off homeless and used alot of drugs clean now an just skating and tryna spread my art. Looking forward to still spreading the art baked goods an skateboarding

This was awesome, thank you vice!
I love this bro keep it up
This was incredible. Awesome, talented man. This makes me feel alive!!!!!!!!
Shout out Lotties! Miss yall being on adams 😪
Business meetings suck, Spanky. You boys are winning. The BAKER aesthetic is the real thing. ❤
Na-kel is a bum.
Do your true Purpose and never be bored ! 😊

Such a cool dude. Would like to know what kind of artstuff he uses. I know its part of the work. But its so hard to finde the right pencil and stuff.
Much love for such a great work. Thank u
Love Lottie!
i want to make a skate shop for skateboards and aggressive inline man it would be so dope to have an indoor park attached to it
that's awesome Andrew is a stand up dude %100
Cool story and video 👍🏼
Nice work my man.
genuinely the goat
What a legend 🔥
Good video
Wait so what happened to the shop??
Nakel smith was breaking kids boards that had anything to do with Lottie’s all because they didn’t have his boards at his shop pretty fucked up
*I REMEMBER MY FIRST GT* THE OTHER BOARDS HAD HARD WHEELS & SQUARE BOARD* *First Pool I injured myself* *BUT WE TORE UP THE CITY SKATING* *SKATE OR DIE* *CATER*
Cool video. Interesting story and person.
