As Bach himself told us, playing this is rather easy. One need only play the right note at the right time, and the instrument plays itself!

Maybe you're right, but I'm sorry 😅 I think he is objectively off-beat, especially the end of his sentences, it feels like he always finish too late and so he's trying to run after lost time. I have spent 2 years of my life trying to figure out what this piece is called, and after all that time I also got the privilege of hearing a professional play it

Happily I had heard it at first on my cd for trumpet plays. So the names of the single tunes were uplisted.
Harpsichord and flute go together really well, this is one of my favourite JS Bach pieces, thumbs up.

@@calebliu7581 Yes, I find this performance by JP Rampal to be oddly disappointing. He was normally one of the most technically and musically proficient flautists around, but in this he sounds rushed and some notes almost off the beat.

Just realized that after trying to play the solo part on my MIDI keyboard's "flute" setting at home, looking at the 2/4 time signature and finally moving everything a half measure over in my mind to make sense of it all.

@@neoflyboy I'm aware that it was written for different instruments, but that doesn't excuse the performer rushing through it. It reminds me of when Diane Bish plays Widor's toccota. She rushes through it to show off, and it's not even worth hearing.
also.. why is the harps.. so fucking loud, can't hear shit he is playing.. also it kinda looks like there are some dead notes he wasn't able to rush in.. and to be honest i don't like his face either :D

@@PonderousProse He has literally lost anything he might be trying to say with this piece. All he is focused on is finishing first. Music is just as much about rests, and *breathing,* as it is about playing lots of notes.

Well... it could probably be played on the oboe, but it'd be very hard at the same tempo, and the note range could need to be adjusted.
I'm a huge fan of Rampal, but why does he play the trills completely incorrectly?
His technique here has actually gotten sloppier, much due to his age during this recording. Despite all the comments that say he’s going too fast, his performances will always remain a reference point for me on flute music.

The sheet music offered is not Rampal's version played, so just handwrite out this version. the reason is,..3-4 note chords will slow down the tempo,.... this piece sounds best played at allegro gracioso, and single melodic line makes this pieced come alive..

Actually, I liked Rampal's rendition of Badinerie much better than James Galway's - Rampal's interpretation was much kinder and gentler, with nuances, slurs and grace notes that Galway just idn't have the time to put in. And even though Rampal takes Badinerie at a more relaxed pace than Galway, still, it doesn't drag. James Galway seems to have set the pace for modern flutists in playing this piece lickety-split, like a bat out of hell - I don't like it. I'm sure that, back in Bach's day, the pace was more relaxed, and closer to that of Rampal.
