My favourite piece by J S Bach. He captured the grace, elegance and charm of the Baroque French dances and he made them universal beyond time and space.
Seeing some of these comments makes me think that people forget that most music in the baroque period had elements of improvisation, so many in fact, that the origin of the name 'baroque' is a term for pearls with many imperfections.
Not only do I agree, but back then, composers would just write simple dynamics, notes and rhythms with no style markings at all. They generally left it up to the performer to play any embellishments he or she wanted to add, as well as get creative with their dynamics, tempo, and articulation.
The ornamental embellishments are good and welcome, especially given it's common practise in both this music and other genres like jazz to play around with the melody when it is repeated. That does include rhythmic alteration, but I don't like his choice of rhythmic alteration here (syncopation of the opening theme of the final movement) because it undoes the rhythmic flow of the work. It's hard for me to put in words, but there are other ways to play around with the rhythm that respect the structure and thus authenticity of the work. Not to criticise this performer of course. He is a master and it would be a privilege to hear his art with my own ears.
Absolutely right. In arts, baroque music is the only one that I favor. Architecture and painting not so much, and i think for the very reason that you have stated.
This Bach's Orchestral Suite No.2 played by Emmanuel Pahud is extremely amazing. Please concentrate your musical consciousness toward this funny but enjoyable dancing music called Badinerie. Please listen to the melody stream by flute. Pahud did bold and excellent improvisations in the Badinerie. Until now , Every flutist didn't try such things. Even Aurel Nicolet also didn't do it. I have been waiting for such nice performance. And I'd like to admire this flutist of courage.
I agree with you that it is one of the best versions ever recorded of this wonderful suite!! Concerning Pahud Improvisational skills: I'm not to sure he improvises here ;) Check out Karajan's version ! ruclips.net/video/9aFUuHIdV1o/видео.html But he does bring an incredible expressivity to the instrument which is just amazing !!
Maravilha.

I learned all of this piece except for the overture (and I didn't play it as fast as in this recording.) But without recordings like this, it would've been much harder. Thanks for this content!

Frick the Badinerie. The movements starting at 6:37 and 12:50 are completely underrated!
Ouverture 0:09 - 6:33
Rondeaux 6:37 - 8:10
Sarabande 8:15 - 11:00
Bourrée (Bourrée 1 & 2) 11:03 - 12:48
Polonaise (& Double) 12:50 - 15:59
Menuett 16:03 - 17:08
Badinerie 17:09 - 18:32

Jazz doesn't bring delight to all ears sorry. You can't compare.

People don't forget, they have no idea in the first place. Baroque improvisation is a skill and I absolutely love performers that embellish :)

this badinerie improvisation is amazing nicely done
it's not improvisation, it's ornamentation

Splendide interprétation avec à la flûte le successeur de Jean-Pierre Rampal.
В высшей степени гениальное исполнение.Ничего подобного еще не довадилось услышать.Это бесподобно.Браво.
Beautiful concert. I love E. Pahud's playing! Funny thing--I see a keyboard instrument being played, but no microphone is picking it up.
Örök szép ez a szvit.

Grande nível!!!!
Everyone talks about the flute player. The bassist is fantastic!
Klaus Stoll
Hacen bonito trabajo. ¿Por qué sobrematizan?
Did they run out of chairs?
surely they could use the Bach support...
Maravilhosos! Bravíssimo!

Felicitaciones.

Неймовірно!
Очень красиво! Флейта безподобна! Браво!
I didn't even notice that guy at the back, to the left of the harpsichord player and I've watched this quite a few times 🙈.
Linda musica!!!!
Simplemente hermoso 😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
This is what baroque should sound like. Bold and dangerous improvisations, but brilliant.
I like Pahud who is Chief flutist of Berlin phyl.
The musicians are so joyous. It changes everything 🙂
Very nice from here: 12:48
Gracieux, dans tous les sens du terme…
Genial!!!
Le son de la flûte est extra. Bravo
What a rockstar
