  • See what happens when we dump a load of blocks, and a toolbox into the roll-formed, high-strength steel bed of a Chevy Silverado pickup truck and the aluminum bed of a Ford F-150. See how they held up.

    I have owned numerous Gm and Ford trucks. I prefer GM, but any truck needs to have a good spray-on bedliner if it is to be used for hauling at all. This makes a huge difference in bed damage and keeping stuff from sliding around.

      Ford are flat out JUNK! They KEEP us technicians busy due to their shit engineering, all the massive issues they have, and all the China steel used on everything steel on a Ford. Up here in the northern states China steel and salt = fucked. The ONLY manufacturer to actually be taken appart with out emptying your whole tool box is GM vehicles and mostly they withstand the salt (nut and bolt wise) after 20+ years and will come appart WITH OUT touching everything. When we see a rusty Ford for something major we just want to put a flare in the gas tank and save ourselves the stress and all the hours wasted on 💩..

      I know why they do it...but it's dumb to bash it...and do the same thing. Ford had to do it first because they always wanted to be the tallest/Physically biggest pickup....D*ck measuring. The problem is that the idiot Designers keep making them bigger and bigger....which kills -MPG, acceleration, braking, payload, and towing capability. I do think the body panels/cab are a good Ideal to make out of lighter material aluminum or FRP...But the Cargo "HAS TO BE" made of steel. I'ma certified Ford Mechanic so I know the good and the bad they have to offer.
      That's why I love to mess with 1/2 chevy/ford guys...when My dakota actually has a higher payload rating than them and puts bus lengths on their 5.0L and 5.3L v8s.
      The Compacts are just as bad...they are the size of 1980's full size pickups. I saw a colorado test in MT...it weighed 1,000lbs more than my Dakota and I have an all iron v8, etc.

      @eric63377 2 года назад +5

      The ls based engine in the gm/Chevy's is way way better than any of Fords engines and GM'S engineering is user friendly. As a tech with 20yrs experience I totally dislike working on fords.. I see them EVERYDAY sometimes 30-40 ford cars or trucks a week with something simple as brakes all the way to it needs turbos at 65k (That's 10k in repairs😳) or it's only a couple years old and it needs an engine or transmission. As for GM products I may install 1 engine in them a year and I may see 1-4 GM'S a week for general maintenance as in brakes, ball joints, wheel bearing, spark plugs, or a starter basic normal stuff.. NOW if you MUST buy a Ford truck make sure it has the new 5.0 coyote engine (it's the best thing for has) they aren't to bad and I haven't had to replace one of those engines YET.
      P.S. I work on all makes and models and I prefer GMs engineering over all and I don't work on just a couple cars last year EVEN through covid I made my job $750,000 in parts and labor! I'm not bragging I'm just trying to get the point acrossed that I work on a shit load of vehicles every years and I know all of the manufacturers problems.

    Just put a liner in it we do this with dump truck every day. My advise to anybody buying a new p/u get what you like then invest in a good liner. Just do your research on the important stuff like the tranny the engine the transfer case and the axels and find out which one rots out the fastest.

    I like aluminum better but Ford should have used 1/4" aluminum for the bed floor. Even the Chevrolet could use a stronger floor. Maybe 1/8" steel tread plate? Either truck I would remove the bed and build my own if I were going to use it for work.

      Correction. Chevy actually has low-grade mild steel, and you should never try welding it... You hit a sulfur pocket every 5 inches because they use crappy carbon and you’ll screw up your welds and your truck.

    it's funny, I only read the first 2 comments and they are arguing. this video is pretty good advice for the dumbass who would even consider purchasing a truck without a bed liner. & I'm pretty sure if your going to spend $35,000-$40,000-$50,000 on a new pickup truck you
    won't be dropping and load of bricks 6 feet high into the bed regardless of what the bed is made of, & if your to lazy to set a tool box down in the bed of your truck like a normal person I would advise you to get a truck bed tool box. & for the Chevrolet fans, if you think your truck is better because it made of steel, you're wrong. and I'll explain why. steel is extremely heavy, Ford has decided to change to aluminum beds and body is to lower the weight on the truck to get better fuel mileage, ford motor company tested the 2011 F-150 3.5L Ecoboost fuel consumption to the new 2016 F-150 Ecoboost that has the all aluminum body and bed. it proved that it not only got better fuel milage. it's funny, the Chevrolet was the number 1 sell vehicles and was rewarded all of them rewards but what you guys fail to understand is that Obama was the reason. when he decided to offer a rain check to all of the major car manufacturers, including Ford. Chevrolet took bailout money because they where 3.8 million dollars in the hole. Ford was the only company that didn't except the bailout money, because they didn't need it. keep in mind, it was Harley Davidson motorcycles, then came ford motor company. congratulations Chevrolet owners your paying money to Obama. he bought your truck for you. your just paying him back. lmfao
