Maybe not an awful lot you can do this season but if you train really smart and hard this coming off season you can have a big glow up! also compete compete compete!!! thats where you'll get the most gains :)
I'm currently training to run a sub 5 minute mile, and I have that in my sights as I have a 5:11, however my dream is to break 4 minutes in the mile, probably the most difficult thing I'll do in my life, I don't think anything else will be close. When I got injured and hurt pretty badly, I got a TON of demotivation and came back into really bad shape, didn't even break 6 minutes in the mile the first time I ran an all out time trial after a 1 month break. I managed to get down to a 5:19, and then 3 weeks ago I ran my fastest ever mile of 5:11. I'm having a 2 week recovery break now, but I'm currently getting in XC and I really want to try to tackle the sub 5 minute mile early on this year. And then it will be a road of the sub 4 minute mile. Amazing work, not just on your sub 11 100m, but also on the story line/video, it inspires me to keep going when things get difficult. Maybe you can try to train for sub 10 100m? Either way, thanks for this video, and I hope you do well in your training in whatever you are doing!
Appreciate that! Track is a lonely sports honestly so it can be hard but gotta keep pushing sub 10 would be a dream but my main goal is to run/compete for my country (Scotland) at the commonwealth games either 2026 or 2030!
@hanphilnoffz8827 I'm 18 and about to turn 19, but I recently ran 18:09 for a 5k, and I'm not very good at endurance compared to my speed, so I think I can break 5 minutes in the mile at that time. Right now I just got off of a 2 week break, and I'm just getting back to it, but I think I can get back to the shape I was in before and break 5 minutes. I'm hoping to go under 4:40 or maybe even 4:30 this year, I know it's going to be tough, but we'll see how it goes. If I can break 5 minutes this year, I think I have a good shot at breaking 4 minutes after highschool, whether it's in college or after college.
Thanks, thats really cool actually was such a good day the bus ride back to the tube station hit different and the jerk chicken was good as well memories are flooding back rn
I was getting close in hs in the late 80s then I blew out my ACL. One of my regrets in life is I never got to know if I could get under 11 . Keep pushing. Your only young once.
I find it even more impressive than the sub-11 100m time that you didn't give up, even after enduring so many injuries. Congratulations, dude! You are truly an inspiration. I also wanted to ask you about hamstring and groin injuries because I'm dealing with similar issues. What have you learned over the years about prevention? At the end of the day, training for top speed is crucial to improve in the 100m. How can one do it as safely as possible? Thank you for the video!
prevention is just strengthen them and having good programming that gets you ready to run gotta progress it over a long time to be in a good space for injury reduction! and for top speed training just gotta do it when fresh and make sure your not dropping off too quick and if you are cut the session

@@camyjumps He is 13 in 8th grade. he just started track, no spikes, no blocks and no training. He doesn't workout or anything. I figure if spikes and blocks should get him down to 11.3 and any practice and training should get him under 11.00 all within 6 month to a year. That would put him under 11 starting out 9th grade.
Thanks, The goal of the video was exactly that! I didn't believe I had it in me when I was younger but I've managed to do it and know that I've got more to give still. never give up on what you want!
I like the video. There are not many videos out there that give a realistic idea of what you can achieve with serious training for sprinting over a two year period. Just wish I had more time to read the text on the screen without pausing, but I understand the clips are short.
Nice how you bounced back from those injuries. If you want to prevent it which I think you probably know do some dynamic warmups and stretch after practice + could you tell me what you did to get that insane bounce?
10.3 guy puts a lot of work into his front side mechanics: Wicket runs forces u to bring the knees up high & ur posture up straight, but most importantly for all this to work in unison is dorsiflexion. It'll remove the wiggling action from ur legs because of the stretch shortening reflex/cycle. In other words, dorsiflexion/stretch shortening reflex makes the leg more compact, smaller, loads the foot like a spring etc. ABC skips, 1 legged bounds, dribbles, etc is vital in building a form somewat like the 10.3 guy. U'v already got quick feet, but those fast looking leg cycles lose momentum cos they're spending too much time on the ground as opposed to aggressively bouncing off it. Focus heavily on frontside mech, ABC skips, but most importantly for all these drills to work in sprinting; dorsiflexion
@@camyjumps When I lift my head, push my chest out & straighten my back, I'm able to get a lot more whip in my arm & leg swing. All while staying relaxed/loose. Muscle tears got me beat though
@@camyjumps Yeah you should try dotted line (and eventually free throw line) off a lob when you work up to it. Shortest free throw line dunker with ball in hand I think is Shal from Russia at 6’. I wonder how close Burkey is tho.
@@rsardesai2 I will be the shortest ever when I do it and I have no doubt that if I really dedicated some training towards it now I could make some serious indents with in a few session cause I’ve not even scratched the surface. I need to work on the run up and rhythm which is the most important part so I know there’s lots to improve just through getting reps in! There’s a 9’4 rim at my old school with the perfect set up so might book it for a few weeks and see how close I can get on a low rim first 🤔

Thanks :D, hopefully you don't wanna speed up hamstring injuries 😉 but basically just keep moving do what you can that isn't aggravating or causing any pain and slowly build the velocity of other exercises like lifts (if you're experienced with intent lifting). other than that sleep well, eat well and move is basically all you can do to help aid the healing process :)
Congrats bro, inspiring a lot it's possible for a normal person to go sub11, great video compared to all I've seen as it seems real though! 🔥🔥🔥 For all athletes
Great, your journey is one what motivate me to push my sprints. I did noticed your left leg is doing some lateral movement, I mean jour feet is circkling out of the line, but your right leg is going right... Did you noticed that too? Mayby fixing that improve your performance, or decrease injury rate? Or it is just camera angle..
This is really motivating to watch. Do you happen to know the grade of your hamstring injuries? They seemed to heal pretty quickly aside from the one that took a few months, so most grade 1s and one grade ~2 maybe? Did you get any bruising from the really bad one?
Great work! I think you still have room for improvement in terms of front side mechanics and sprint specific weight training. It looks like you are still doing weights from jump training rather than sprinting. Would be good to add in some speed bounds too if you are not already doing them.
It's a system, freelap timer uses bluetooth for connection to the phone then the yellow cones are pylons with an 80cm radius which picks up my times. its honestly not super accurate for block starts with the touch pad but great for flying sprints!
Yeah it was really cool meeting him very random as well, I just happened to be in Oregon the week before the world champs and he'd just finished a season. also met his coach who took the photo which was cool! I was actually looking for a tape measure to measure out some flys and he was standing there I was shocked haha
Congrats man. Your channel is fantastic. What are your 30m, 20m and 10m PR fly times? What would you say you need to run fly time wise in order to break 11?
Thanks!!! for 10, 20, 30m fly I've ran 0.99 with a 25m run in (few weeks ago ran 0.97) for the 10m fly had a few 0.96 10m splits on the freelap as well. For 20m fly best I've done was 2.09 back in 2020 during the winter after injury haven't done much 20m fly work since although I've ran 1.99 on the way to my 2.97 30m fly Pr and my all weather 30m fly pr is 2.91 with a 1.95 20m for the first half and a .96 for the second split but it was really windy on this day so It's not a true Pr.
This video is awesome, shows how much work it takes! Just curious how you calculate first motion times, I’m trying to figure out how to time my sprints more accurately.
I think I'll do a video on it, but basically frame count the video or use a software to do it for you. Then time from when you see the first visible movement :)
@@camyjumps Yeah I remember you did a frame count video for vertical jump! That’s actually what I’ve been doing, I just don’t know if I count my arm coming down in a 3 point stance as a first movement or my back leg moving? I didn’t consider getting a software to do it for me, may have to try that!
@@domidunks yeah like my jump, or objectus video or similar software! Makes it a heck of a lot easier for first movement I usually just time from when the head pops up
Ik this is really late but congratulations! I also have my eyes set on sub 12 and this season I finished with a 13 as a sophomore. Also, what is the device you used for timing your flies? And also in between seasons, were you training with blocks?
Have you opened up at all or is your season later in the spring/summer? I use the freelap timer but most of the times are video timed! For off season I didn’t do block work til November used standing start of 3pt this year until then. For this video i was just starting to use blocks ran the 7.05 without blocks at my first 60m meet in February 22’!
@@camyjumps Wasn't able to do good because the last meet everyone was running around half a second slower than their pr, I still got 13.22. Is their any cheaper options for timers cause I have no clue about how they work. I also don't do block work off season too. Also, 7.05 is crazy without block on 60! Our school record dude is a 7.26 in 60m and 10.88 in 100m. Keep up the good work!

Question u did hill sprints when u had no meets, would you recommend doing these inseason or also offseason? U 100% have more in the tank but be smart with training, usually less is more in comp
For hills my coach likes to use them as like a lower intensity stimulus I used them in season last year but I technically wasn't fully focused on sprinting so idk if I'll do them much this year in season. I second the being smart with training as well unfortunately got complacent this past indoor season but it happens.
Great running! I’m currently chasing the sub 11 after I fluked a 11.19 without training. The only problem is that I’m a rugby player so I’m quite built and body fat % ain’t too good hahah. Also what is thp I saw you mentioned it but I didn’t know what that was. And what do you use to time your runs, also I run on grass but do you recommend running on track more?
if you dropped a legit 11.19 on FAT then just compete a few more times and you'll get sub 11 basically as simple as that if it was hand timed then probs more a kin to an 11.4-11.8. Rugby players usually make pretty good sprinters timed one of my mates at a 2.12 20m fly first time trying it which I was impressed by. THP strength is the coaching (online) I use for training if you're serious about training even for rugby I'd recommend looking into it or a similar service! I use a freelap to time my run during session but you can also video time from first movement using the video frames like I did for all the times in this video apart from fly times. I'd definitely recommend sprinting on a track more but also be cognisant of it being more intense so maybe start easing into it until eventually you're able to do it basically do it all the time but never fully sprint solely on a track!
@@camyjumps thanks man, yeah I’ve got state champs in a week but im super unfit so I’ll prolly only run an 11:4 or something. just keen training hard, hopefully gonna start a series called "how to run sub 11" soon where I detail the stuff that helped me and can hopefully help others avoid the mistakes I made!
@@camyjumps Good luck man! You got this 👊
How old are you maybe think more realistic goal of sub 4:30 mile than 4:15 than 4:10 4:05 than you can think of sub 4
@@camyjumpssub 10 probably not but I see 10.6 on you maybe 10.5 but 10.9 is still fast
🙏 I'm tryna be like u.
My goal for the next season is sub 11.

Thank you for the video!
prevention is just strengthen them and having good programming that gets you ready to run gotta progress it over a long time to be in a good space for injury reduction! and for top speed training just gotta do it when fresh and make sure your not dropping off too quick and if you are cut the session
huge W man, maybe you could try training for like 10.6 now, i think it's possible

Ik this video is very old but im in my freshman year with a nationals appearance already under my belt and ive trained my ass off this summer and dont plan on stopping, i plan on making a indoor and outdoor nationals appearing going 6.9 and 11.2 as a freshman and becoming an all american lifter. My plans for sophmore year are a 10.8 and a 6.6 and junior and senior year i will break every single sprint record my school has and become a new balance all american and end up going around 10.5 and going d1. 10.3 guy puts a lot of work into his front side mechanics: Wicket runs forces u to bring the knees up high & ur posture up straight, but most importantly for all this to work in unison is dorsiflexion.
Yeah his technique was something else very clean! working on form atm I think i'm getting somewhere with it as well!

This is really motivating to watch. Do you happen to know the grade of your hamstring injuries? They seemed to heal pretty quickly aside from the one that took a few months, so most grade 1s and one grade ~2 maybe? Did you get any bruising from the really bad one?
Nah no bruising, mainly grade 1s tbh 2 grade 2s in this video and one since this video!
Great work! I think you still have room for improvement in terms of front side mechanics and sprint specific weight training. It looks like you are still doing weights from jump training rather than sprinting. Would be good to add in some speed bounds too if you are not already doing them.
Yeah lots of room to improve made some solid strides in the off season!
"random Italian" HAHAHA!!!! That was 2020 Olympic 100m Champion Marcel Jacobs.

Awesome job bro!! What app is that for tracking time ?

For 20m fly best I've done was 2.09 back in 2020 during the winter after injury haven't done much 20m fly work since although I've ran 1.99 on the way to my 2.97 30m fly Pr and my all weather 30m fly pr is 2.91 with a 1.95 20m for the first half and a .96 for the second split but it was really windy on this day so It's not a true Pr.
might make a video breaking it down with the clips!

Have you opened up at all or is your season later in the spring/summer? I use the freelap timer but most of the times are video timed!

I’ve realised that although my squat strength is nuts (I was repping 160kg/350lb 10-12 reps 3 sets) my muscle strength in for example hip flexors and abs etc are weak. I’m going to transition from footy to sprinting as I think I have a real shot at this considering I’m running as quick as all these other guys but I’m packing and extra 15kg hahah. What do you reckon I should work on? As a side note I have a guy that coaches me so my technique is pretty good
@@speedy.5215 I’d recommend reading some of Dan backs stuff (jump science) sounds like it would help bur basically you’re most likely plenty strong but need to transfer the strength to the track now!

@@nathanieljocson9956 you run faster in competition than training for most people that is so if I just trained and competed say 2-3 times a year that I'm only getting that really fast competition stimuli a few times compared to if I competed 7+ times! very much dependant on health status as well and something to consider when competing in high volumes!
