@@grewastgrewast9893 boohoo just because you're boring, not funny, have zero personality, stop complaining about people acknowledging talent goddamn. you neck beard only sound pathetic
The episode where he completely falls apart and breaks the mirror, that made me burst into tears, because that's as close as anyone ever portrayed PTSD, rage issues and crippling depression, when things pile up and there's a breaking point where nothing but violence remains. For me, that particular aspect was very personal, the show was really, really well done, there were laughs in almost every episode despite the facts that some episodes really are dark and serious for a good portion of time, I am really looking forward to season 2. Since there's no way to actually reach out and compliment the aspect I mentioned in the beginning of my comment, I'll just hope Bill sees this. I don't know how deeply you were emotionally involved into acting, but as I said, it's as close as anyone ever got in acting that out, it made me cry because it happened to me, I relived that moment that I never even wanted to remember, but I was feeling thankful, I even looked at my hand that was broken due to damage I've done to it over the past year and I saw it twitching, I had to pause the scene and cry it out, I'm not sure if it healed me or made things worse, but I feel thankful.
God, that scene is amazing! I totally understand your perspective and why it resonates with you so much! I've never gone through PTSD so I can't pretend that I know what it's like but you're right, the amount of raw emotion contained within that scene hit me like a bullet train and left me utterly shocked afterwards. Really do hope that Bill sees your comment. I think, for matters of representation, it's important to highlight whenever an actor is able to portray a sensitive subject in an ultra-realistic way.
Bill Hader really has struck gold with this show. I haven't seen PTSD shined in a light like this other than season 1 of the Punisher. Really solid writing throughout.
I never thought it out but you're totally right! It's like he didn't have to bulk up with muscle because he was such an expert marksman and intensley focused combatant. Like a goddamn war machine.
Mulaney sketch. "Haircuts have been an important part of my life. I stop by SNL to grab one before I go to interventions for rehab....sometimes, they can kill you! JJ Bittenbinder left that out of Street Smarts!"
Not being a macho muscle man actually makes Hader's Barry character _more_ menacing and believable. It's like, if _that_ guy hacked it in the Marines, he must somehow be extra badass. Which fits this role perfectly, usually he is awkward, shy and at times even clumsy, but then when the killing finally happens, he's whipping out a pistol and emptying the mag into THREE guys at once, as natural as breathing. Or, you know, wrestling a man down and choking him to death, up close and personal. Et cetera. And then you keep thinking about him being that scorpion when he is in that acting class with his pushy bitch girlfriend and all those Hollywood wannabes and Henry Winkler as the acting teacher, and none of them have the slightest clue.
Adam Driver made it through boot camp. If you refuse to give up they will work with you until you can pass, they provide you with the tools and the motivation and if you have the determination they will help you get there.
Legit though, I’m in the Air Force and work with marines in training as well as their instructors. All marines are either super jacked or shrimpy w/ no form of muscle mass at all. No in-between
@Bill Hader being former miltary myself military members come in all shapes and it can be tough to tell a person's fitness level just by appearance. Your character is very believable
I would imagine that the military cares more about performance than muscle mass so physical appearance isn't important compared to passing your physical tests.
I gotta watch more Olyphant! Was recently laughing tremendously at his beautiful tongue in cheek jab at Jim Carrey in Man On The Moon on Conan. so good.
One of the things that impressed me the most when watching Barry was how excellent Bill was at moving like a military soldier when he was breaking into that warehouse with his ex-military friend. If you would’ve told me he used to do that in real life, I would’ve believed you ngl
He's an ex marine. His character had been out of the service for a while and was scrubbing it at home playing video games and eating junk. Bill isn't in bad shape at al but it fits the character imo
Putting on muscle is hard for skinny dudes, by buddy was a stick when he started lifting weights and today he is pretty beefed up and looks great in a tight shirt but it took him years before the results really showed
Did not think in my first several days of being a genuine Bill Hader fan that I'd come across someone commenting that Bill Hader's neck is "pretty thick" 😶
You can clearly tell he's started to workout as you can see the shoulder separations etc. He chose the natural route unlike all these other clowns in Hollywood jacked up on growth harmones and other steroids. Building muscle takes time, naturally.
This man is a national treasure! He is so witty, funny and just delightful. Wait a minute! Have I been watching his interviews for the past 3 hours? 🤔 Perhaps...What can I say? Time well spent 😉👍
He actually really sold his character Barry. So many of these shows it can still be great but you know it's acting. He's doing some borderline method in this show.
Thats actually crazy, because in some episodes i’ve thought to myself “wow Bill Hader is actually kinda ripped.. he has a nice build” and i just saw this interview and i cant believe people cant really notice the difference! Props to Bill Hader, your training did not go unnoticed
He really is one of the few actors who has a unique and palpable charisma. I feel like so many actors even with competent (not revelatory) powers of craft, could just as well be replaced with the next good looking person out of a decent thespian course.
I am so looking forward to Hader in IT! One of the most perfect 👌🏻 casting choices I’ve seen in a very, very long time!! Harry Anderson would have loved it!! ❤️🤟🏻
That girly scream 😱 when he pulls the trigger is just adorable. I'm ashamed to admit that I just can't get into Barry at all, but I could happily listen to Bill telling stories about the show for hours!
I think his physique looks nothing like one from a sedentary lifestyle. His silhouette naturally looks like he does athletics. As a person growing up in a city full of engineers, I can tell you he is not the squishy dog toy he says he is!
The CONTRAST this interview makes with his superb acting in "Barry" just baffles me! As a hitman he can be as scary as hell, it's almost a Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde thing. No joke, I don't see him very far from winning an Oscar in the near future. In many interviews he gives the impression he suffers a little bit from the Impostor Syndrome, I really wish him he can find a way to study and overcome this.
Before I watched this video, when I found out that Bill Harder was the voice of Leonard from Angry Birds, I wasn't able to visualize or connect the voice to the face...but I literally just heard Leonard at 00:54 .

I swear Bill Hader has the most enjoyable interviews; I could just listen to him be interviewed for hours on end
Me, too.
I hated him in SNL, felt so over acted. But now i realize it was the shows format, Bill is actually very enoyable and funny
Me too. I find all his clips when I need lifting up. He is my happy place! Plus, I love his impressions.

Me, too. I watch anything he's in.
His laugh is actual sunshine.
I love that Bill always sounds as if he's come straight from the 50ies - that voice!!
Yeah he kind of has like that old timey transatlantic voice
Angelika Goldstein no he doesn’t. His voice is too nasally with annoying vocal fry.
Not everyone sounded like a movie star in the 50's...

Jasper Störningar I really think that scene got him his Emmy.
It was also a pretty cool homage to the opening scene in Apocalypse Now.

the fact Bill hasn't the phisique du role to play a marine turned hitman actually made him scarier in Barry somehow

Exactly. Barry fights more with his mind and skills than with his physique.
I mean...he's 6 feet 1 and has a broad shoulders..putting on muscles will be the least thing they care about
Lmao when you said "goddamn war machine" all I can think of now is that character in the SNL sketch about the puppet class
“He died of a haircut” sounds like an SNL premise

I mean he didn't look like a super hero but he definitely packed on some lean muscle. I though he was definitely believable as a marine.
yes! and you can see a clear difference between his muscles in the beginning of season 1 and the end of the season
My cousin was a Marine and he gained muscle when he went in, but slimmed back down once he was out. He fits the role perfectly imo
The funniest thing about Bill Hader is his laughing, indeed. It's also nice to see that Conan and he get along well together.
They mates IRL.
They both have a self deprecating humor.
We need more of this guest on Conan.
He out-conaned conan with the impersonations, conan owns.
Conan needs to learn to shut up and let Bill enjoy his own interview.

Adam Driver made it through boot camp. If you refuse to give up they will work with you until you can pass, they provide you with the tools and the motivation and if you have the determination they will help you get there.
male priviledge...not even if an actress were a sniper before she would be believable because no man would dare to project on her.
Legit though, I’m in the Air Force and work with marines in training as well as their instructors. All marines are either super jacked or shrimpy w/ no form of muscle mass at all. No in-between
