I love how Stephen Colbert can't even begin his James Mason impression before Bill Hader just starts laughing hysterically and corpsing.
I love that they're bonding over an obscure (at least to many of us) impression
And they both did a very good James Mason. Hader did a somewhat older version of James, but both were spot on.

@@Lady_Vengeance It's hard to keep up with him. Must have all sorts of hilarity going on. I think it's perspective. Bill clearly knows what's in front of him and builds on it then, he articulates. The voice does it for me. Deadpan is a blessing.

You sorta forget how talented of an actor he is in these interviews because he is so humble and down to earth and he goes into an impression like that and just WOWS.
You should really see Barry if you haven’t already. I’ve been a fan of Bills for along time, but he really puts all his talents into this show. It’s very good.
And he never seems like he's "too good" for it. Great guy. Humble. And always willing to do an impression on the fly! ❤

It's really considered unprofessional. I agree that sometimes it's funny to watch people lose it when they aren't supposed to, but the humor is coming from the actor's plight in that moment, instead of from the material, and so the pros really make an effort to keep their shit together and let the audience do the laughing.

I have extremely bad anxiety, so I act funny to hide my anxiety, when I can’t hide my anxiety, I hide myself inside my house.

I remember Bill from 'Men in Black'. I wouldn't watch his other movies, because I'm not really into Dork Comedy. But If he were to show his acting range, I'd probably pay closer attention to him.

His impressions are not just about the voices, but the situations that the subjects are in. It’s not just a line from a movie, it’s a fully realized comic scene.
So now that Bill Hader is in IT; Chapter 2 he's gonna have an improv laugh-off with Pennywise.
If he doesn't crack a fee jokes at him in the movie I'm gonna be disappointed

He said breaking character is lame but that by far is my favorite part of SNL. That's what cracks me up no matter what. Especially when Hader did it!
For some reason when Bill Hader does it I find it endearing and loveable but when Jimmy Fallon did it I'd roll my eyes. Hader is so awesome.

It depends on how often an actor breaks it. If it's unexpected, then it's very funny - for example, when Laura Benanti causes Stephen to break :)
Knowing that Seth Myers would purposely change lines on the cue cards just to make him break on live tv makes it even better.

I have been head over heels in unrequited love with Bill and his laugh for far too long. Barry is exceptional, it just works - wonderfully written, acted, and produced. He deserves all good things in life, so pleased that he's doing what he adores.

I don't even know who James Mason is. I have never heard of him. But somehow I just know that Bill Hader's impression of him is spot on. I could literally watch Hader do impressions all day.
I only know James Mason from the 1957 Cary Grant film, North by Northwest.
James Mason plays the "bad guy."
That movie is fantastic, and I almost never like older films. It is well worth a viewing.

Hader's impressions are so great, but I really love the overbite and the giggle! And it made me empathetically nervous when he was talking about his stage fright.
