Since you asked in the video, I don’t think the Polestar 4 needs a rear windshield. I can hardly see anything in the back of my Model X anyway. I mostly look at the rear view camera. The wide angle of the camera view is great.

The whole reason these center screens have taken over is because it's cheaper to code the controls and have them run through the screen vs. actually mass producing buttons, switches, etc. I get it, there's so many features on modern cars, it makes sense to incorporate them into a single unit. But, losing the buttons to control the most used features is a definite downside.
While cost is definitely a factor, some brands (like Tesla) also do it for design reasons. You could say the same thing about the home, back and forward button on smartphones.

Polestar would use recycled materials globally it's not a market thing if they sell the car in the market it will be the same materials as in all markets from a recycled material perspective. The no rear window thing isn't a problem for me similar to a cargo van in alot of ways or if you were hauling a trailer that you couldn't see through either or if you had the back of the pickup full of bails of hay so meant you only had side mirrors. Beautiful car though, will be not cheap in my market in Australia definitely in the 6-figure category that is without any tariffs as we don't have a automotive manufacturing industry. Polestar could do what others are doing and build factory in Mexico so it won't be made in China but in Mexico.
I wonder how many regulatory bodies will be like "Its nice that you have the back up camera, but you need a rear view mirror and rear window for this vehicle to be classified as safe for our roads." I get with modern cars, where you can't really see out the back much anyway, with the tiny windows, but its still a sticking point with some regulators.

You mention Tesla a lot so you’re clearly familiar with them. For the purposes of this review maybe you should have mentioned that the view in the Tesla rear view mirror is practically zero.
In about 90% of new cars you cannot look out of the rear window. With a camera you can always look out and you have a wider view. And image at nighttime, It will work so much better because it can use nightvision. I cannot se a thing out of my rear window at night. So it is not lame, it is a design and safety thing. I have seen it live in a Polestar space and you have no dead angles between the rear view camera and the side mirrors
@@michaelrasmussen6953 I'm not talking about the camera. I'm saying the car looks like crap without a window but what looks like a filler panel instead. Looks like a work van that has filler panels instead of windows.
@@michaelrasmussen6953 and really... 90%. Like you did a review of every car and you couldn't see out the rear for 9 out of 10 of them? Seems like a made up number to me. I would venture to guess it's more like 90% you can see out of just fine.
I’d much rather have a camera there’s often things in the way peoples heads, cargo, etc. I don’t really know why they couldn’t do that shape without a piece of glass in there, but I’ll take a camera any day.
You're struggling with the missing rear glass. It's not a rear windshield becuse it doesn't (except going backwards real fast)it is not a rear window because it does open up. It is a BACKLIGHT, a term almost nobody uses anymore, because of where it is and what it originally did let in only light and not wind. The storks do that all over, "over there".
No. It's Swedish. Geely Holding is a parent company like VW is a parent company but Polestar is its own brand that is heavily based in Sweden. The teams of people that are responsible for Polestars are mostly Europeans based in Sweden. Even the car it is heavily based on, the Zeekr001, contrary to what most people believe, is designed by European teams in Sweden, not China. The SEA platform's head engineer is an ex-Saab engineer from Sweden. There is some Chinese electronics in it and battery, but that's true of a lot of Western BEVs.
No rear glass seems like a gimmick, and would annoy me. I don’t see why they couldn’t put glass on the rear hatch instead of that metal panel. Move the gps somewhere else. Otherwise, beautiful car, but too expensive and looks cramped inside compared to model y?
5:55 - and the figures have a nice and readable fontsize compared to the tiny ID crap cause the older you get the harder it becomes to read those in a kind of middle distance.
"Polestar sounds a bit naughty" - Say what?? If Roman is referring to dancers performing in an adult nightclub then that's quite a reach and says more about Roman and where his mind is than it does about the car brand!
Roman says get you mind out of the gutter. He’s been pole dancing for the last 5-years as his daily aerobics. In fact he had firefighter pole installed at his home because of his plus size🫢
What a wild implication. We refer to the vaulters on the t&f team as Pole Stars, and they are indeed a little naughty. I certainly didn't hear any such implications of THAT level from Roman.
Polestar isnt going to sell many in the US. Their just simply priced too high, and with EV values falling through the floor, this loaded out $70k ev will be a $50k vehicle the moment it drives off the lot. even used EV prices are cratering. buy one of these in 2 years when you can get one for $35k coming off of a lease return.
Please stop using the branded term Frunk. Front storage is a gimmick at most. I like Canoo and Telo are doing by removing the engine bay area all together. Electric cars give us the opportunity to become more efficient with design.
Bell and the birds were the best part of this. No rear glass. Who flipping cares. Just 1 more thing ruined. Add it to the list. I have spent years driving vehicles with out the ability to use a rearview mirror. Not a big deal. It is how ever 1 more light source taken away. And IF you were in a dangerous situation where the rear of the vehicle is your only escape, having no glass to break out is bad news.(rare that would happen, but I have been there before)
EVs dont need huge range, dual motors, and 0-60 in 3 seconds. 100-150 miles of range, and a drive system that can get out of its own way is all that matters.
Ole!!! Great video!

I don't care it doesn't have rear glass. Don't let Polestar feed you any lines, it's totally meant for cool factor, nothing more.
No rear glass idea is lame. That panel filler looks worse than glass.
First, I don't want to know how much 22" tires cost. Second, I don't like that it's part Chinese.
Nicest EV on the market for sure.
Sorry but the explanation for the rear end makes no sense to me. Polestar, just say there's no window because you didn't want a window
I’d much rather have a camera there’s often things in the way peoples heads, cargo, etc. I don’t really know why they couldn’t do that shape without a piece of glass in there, but I’ll take a camera any day.
I hope this no back window thing doesn’t become a trend. It’s utterly stupid
Why exactly?
Each and every van and semi doesn't have them. Utterly dangerous?
Looks very nice
Idk Polestar, I can think of many sexy cars that still have rear glass!
10 mins to get to the main point : 🙄
The C Pillar explanation is as believable as Hyundai rear deck light reasoning for the SantaFe. 🐂💩 12:58
NACS charger?
Actually not Swedish but Chinese undercover
Polestar forgot to fit the rear window!
@@TFLEVawesome reply, hilarious! 😂
I wonder if there would be a reason to buy this one over the Model Y ?
Build quality, exterior styling, interior design and quality, much more ergonomic controls and display layout. Just to name a few.
@hwirtwirt4500
You are completely right.
All in favor of the Tesla and the Y is much cheaper too. 😇
There isn’t a reason to buy this over model Y.
@@BendeVette Tesla has the worst build quality and repairability in the industry, it's for cult members only.
I think they just being cheap not installing a back glass saving money and charging more.
Electric cars give us the opportunity to become more efficient with design.
no rear glass is a goofy thing and not safe!
Bell and the birds were the best part of this. No rear glass. Who flipping cares. Just 1 more thing ruined. Add it to the list. I have spent years driving vehicles with out the ability to use a rearview mirror. Not a big deal. It is how ever 1 more light source taken away. And IF you were in a dangerous situation where the rear of the vehicle is your only escape, having no glass to break out is bad news.(rare that would happen, but I have been there before)
Roman, you're WRONG. The plate on the front of this thing shows that it is the 9th experimental version of Mazda's Great Little Car.
EVs dont need huge range, dual motors, and 0-60 in 3 seconds. 100-150 miles of range, and a drive system that can get out of its own way is all that matters.
Without the rear window it’s a hard pass
The lack of a rear glass is a gimmick. Pure concept car BS.
You could put a purse or a laptop in the front. Things you don’t want stolen.
Correct
I do the same thing.
Expensive stuff in the frunk.
Sustainable materials. Another way of saying it's made of garbage. If it's cheaper, then who cares. But it's not, so it's literally crap.
