    • @rationalmartian
      @rationalmartian 5 лет назад +24

      It does. That was really the first thing I noticed. With the Lectron fitted it really sounded like it was singing.
      But then an engine, and especially a two stroke when it is running in the optimised RPM's and a well designed tuned pipe, is very similar to a musical instrument. Our ears have evolved to be remarkably sensitive to slighly different notes or tones.
      That is maybe why engines sound so fabulous, especially when one understands the fundamentals. All that complexity working together harmoniously, all timed virtually to perfection, is almost like an awesome song or a symphony.

      I used one with my xcw 300 and it always ran lean no matter what adjustments I did to the needle, sure is sipped fuel but it overheated every time I got into gnarly slow single track, I even ran a rad fan and still had over heating problems, you need a certain amount of fuel to quench the flame front, if you run lean you lose that effect-IDK maybe a mx bike going balls to the wall with lots of air flow through the rads might be fine, but definitely I think they tend to run super lean, you'll gain power just like you would advancing the timing but your going to be tittering on the brink of knocking, pinging and close to over heating

  • @danixsc
    @danixsc 5 лет назад +3

    I entered their website. This carburetor doesn't carbure itself at all. It is affected by the temperature of the air and the altitude where you're riding. But it requires less tuning to work properly and has a system that allows it to make a better mixture and adjust to the requirements of the motor. It's not an automatic carburetor but a more efficient carburetor, with slightly improvements on the tuning to work better.
    For full auto tuning, it would require electronics. An electronic carburetor (wich is not the same as injection, but it's similar) with this technology would be a beast!

    • @nobodynoone2500
      @nobodynoone2500 Год назад

      It does have a mechanism that adjusts for alt/temp aka density, it is the same as on the smartcarb iirc, a pitot that pressurizes the bowl in relation to intake air. Not a full compensation, but more than most carbs.

    Wow can you ride! That was awesome dude!
    I have a Lectron on my KTM 300 and live in Colorado, so I see all kinds of temp and elevation changes during my long trail rides. The carb deals with it perfectly, it is like having fuel injection without all the complexity. The bike gets better gas mileage too, which is great as I don't need to run a bigger than stock fuel tank and carry more fuel. The carb does not cost much more than a bigger fuel tank, so it is a win all the way around. The stock Mikuni carb on the KTMs does not deal with changes well, demanding tweaking the jetting to run right. No more jetting hassles! So much win...
    Lectron carbs are simple - they do not have a main or pilot jets. The magic is in the half round metering rod. Set it and forget it. The carb came pre-set, I did not have to touch it, even the idle was fine - it was fully plug and play!

    IMO, This shows that rider skills have the greatest impact on your speed. 3 seconds is not bad to shave off but for an novice rider a carb swab isn’t going to make all the difference. Ppl throw a bunch of money and mods on their bike when really they should be investing their money in PRACTICING! Obviously for a pro rider it makes sense to invest in parts that will make even the smallest difference

    • @TheWallsocket
      @TheWallsocket 5 лет назад +3

      The expansion chamber essentially does exactly what a turbo does - it creates pressure that forces more fuel mixture into the chamber. The only difference is the expansion chamber pushes the mixture in from the exhaust side, and a turbo pushes it in from the intake side. 2 strokes basically get a free turbo, that’s where their main power advantage over equal displacement 4 strokes comes from. Some people think it’s due to 2t having double the amount of power strokes but that’s not true - just look at how much power 2ts without expansion chambers used to make, very comparable to 4t.

  • @johnathanyinger

    Did you spend any time adjusting the stock carb before switching to the Lectron? Did you put in new spark plugs and determine how the engine was running for both carbs? The Lectron you got is a HV model, so at the slide it is 34mm vs the stock 38mm. The Lectron has been proven to run leaner than stock on the low end and midrange. If you wanted better top end and over rev, I would have stuck with the stock carb and jetted accordingly. The reason why you thought the top end was better tells me that your stock carb setting were probably leaner than the fueling the Lectron provided. The stock carb is TPS, and adjusts ignition timing according to throttle position. So you loose this when switching to Lectron. Lectron states the TPS only adjust timing at idle, but that is BS. The Lectron is great for people who can't or don't wish to fine tune the engine with changes in altitude and temperature. It looks like you are in Florida, so those two variables don't deviate significantly. I'm not saying the Lectron can't be better than the stock carb. I'm just saying provide a little more data. thanks

      Well I have a 2007 CR125 cylinder and head modified by Terry Varner and I had the mikuni carb swapped out for a keihin simply because the mikuni was so temperamental. The keihin carb was jetted very well but then I purchased the Lectron and honestly I will never go back. The
      Lectron really improved the throttle response and overall power of the engine. Anyone that owns or has ridden a 02-07 cr125 knows how sluggish they are but with the right person doing the cylinder and head work and a decent carb this bike actually rips for a 125. Just my 2 cents!!!

Engine was ported and tuned by Pro Circuit and honestly it’s stupid because it now makes too much power (as if it didn’t have enough already lol), almost to the point that I regret getting the it ported. lol

    Very cool video. You rip on that 125. I used to have the same exact bike. 2005 CR 125r. I bought it brand new out of the crate in 2008. It sat for 3 years in the crate and never got assembled. I loved that bike. Best bike I ever owned. I will always love 2 strokes over 4 strokes. There's just something about em. Super lightweight, fast, great sound, great power and of course that smell of the premix exhaust. I grew up on a 2 stroke and never really raced a 4 stroke. If you didn't already know, every year there's a race called the "125 dream race" in Washougal, Wa. I'm sure you already knew. The way you ride that bike completely wide open everywhere on the track, you'd be suited pretty well on that track with your bike. I think you could do pretty well in that race. You should do some more videos with a mix of "point of view" go pro footage, someone following you, and someone filming you from track side. I'd like to see those whips from a track side view and from someone filming with a go pro following you. Anyway, keep rippin' brotha.

What CVK carbs don’t have is Lectron’s high rpm pickup needle. At high RPM vacuum can suck more fuel from a separate independently set jet, unlike CVK carbs that rely on preset air fuel mixture control through main jets and the mixture screw.

      @@austinhartley2312 that's BS...once the ideal setting is found for the altitude/ambient conditions you're located at, one still has to adjust to other ambient changes and elevations....the benefit is the adjustment shouldn't be more than a 1/4 to 1/2 turn (richer/leaner) on the metering rod....bottom line, you still need to tune it.

    The old Lectrons were exotic hardware and always added some nice torque. The new Lectron company seems much better at business and has improved the carb as an investment. I doubt you'd have to go much lower than $75 off the $500 new price to sell the full kit used. You get more torque, smoother power curve and usable upper mid-range boost. But the labor-saving jetting and fuel savings alone is worth it.

    Man, it was visual on this end. I estimated you would be doing about 3 seconds faster after the first half lap, as I can see it pull harder in the deep stuff, and clear jumps better, and you were having a blast (able to push it harder it seemed on the second lap). I noticed you fell off the pipe a couple of times, but it was only your first 2 laps. I am sure you would have no bogs with another lap or two to figure it out, so that would be another second off your time.
    Your pretty fast man. It is great to see talent on you tube. :)

      Probably was. For a normal carb on a bike today, who's isn't? Even back in the 80's you can tell by the smokey stadium that the pro mechanics were about the only people who tuned a carb well, (I did too by the way, for an amateur racer). But I agree, the difference I saw here was pretty big.

      The dirt drying out and getting packed down can help with corner drive too. As long as it’s not too dry that you’re fighting for traction, the dryer dirt provides less resistance so the motor can spin up easier.

    Glad you had good luck with yours. I tried one for 6 month and it was a disaster. Float kept sticking closed and running out of fuel. Couldn't get it to run right. Low on power once you got it to run clean. Turn the needle 1/4 turn and it would run ratty and bike would smoke like crazy. Finally gave up and went back to the Keihin. Thought maybe it was a fluke but my buddy just removed his Lectron after he could not get it to run rich enough consistently. Would run ok one day and then run lean the next. It would also cutout over whoops almost sending him over the bars. Lectron probably went over yours with a fine tooth comb since they knew you would be reviewing it on your channel but for Joe average seems to be hit or miss.

    • @traveling.down.the.road56
      @traveling.down.the.road56 Год назад

      Strange that you say Lectrons are "hit or miss", as over 95% of the comments I've seen have been wildly positive. I'm sure all products have a certain percentage of faulty ones slipping through quality control and making it to customers, so it's no surprise to find some negative reviews of the Lectron carbs, but like I said, I've seen very few (like 2, including yours).

    My DRZ400SM sat unused in my garage for over 12 years, due to my two back surgeries and had a carb problem before I quit riding (wouldn't idle), so I took it to my local shop to get it running again. They told me I had to replace the carb, and suggested some aftermarket $150 piece of crap, then as I was picking up my bike the shop mechanic tells me about the Lectron option and how great it is. Now I have a huge flat spot in my throttle response and wasted that money for the new carb, so I'm doing my own research on the Lectron, and will probably order one next week. The shop won't give me any refund or discount for the crap carb they put on my DRZ, which makes me angry. Why didn't they give me the info I needed to make the right choice in the first place. I guess I'm wrong to assume that people will treat my stuff like their own and don't care how this attitude hurts their reputation and future business (they are the closest shop in this rural area, but now I'd rather travel 75 miles to the next closest shops). I've got three triple passenger SeaDoo's, a Yamaha 4WD, shaft driven quad, and two 1985 Honda 250SX ATC's (also shaft drive), which all need attention before I can run them again, so it is their loss of a customer.
