Q: What program is this?
A: It is Firealpaca, which is a free program. I also use it for animation.
Q: What brushes do you use for shading?
A: I mostly use the firealpaca default watercolor brush and mix tool, but from time to time I also used the lasso fill tool, blend tool, and bumpy art pen brush. My shading method involves creating an all white multiply layer and then painting on it with my chosen shading colour(s).

I must say, the fourth drawing is such a noticeable improvement from all the other mosskit drawings before it. Good god, it just exudes desolation, and this feeling of an uncaring void swallowing up a barely lived life. Even if you had little to no knowledge of warrior cats, you could look at this drawing and still emotionally resonate with it.

Dude. The improvement here is INSANE. I especially like the Feathertail one, you definitely improved on the lighting. The old one was a bit like “Where is the light source coming from??” and now thenew one. is. LITERALLY. STUNNING.
Mosskit’s piece is so good. I don’t even understand the whole pallet of emotions it’s giving me. It’s heartbreaking, lonely, creepy, isolating and yet calming, hypnotizing even. If there was an ost for each drawing I’d say an old Russian lullaby would suite this one the most.
As much as i love your cartoony style, the semi-realistic cats are GORGEOUS, Badgerfang being a more realistic kit actually almost made me cry 😭
I think you've unlocked something I also had to learn by doing a lot of art and examining my own relationship with it: sometimes messy is better. Sometimes the idea of detail is better than spending hours and hours actually putting it in. There's a reason people go nuts over Monet even though all of his work is just big splashes of color and it's because shape and light are all you need to sell something. Letting yourself get messy and experimental with it I think helped you produce some really stellar, visually impactful work. I'm glad you're having fun messing around with art and trying new things and also I'm glad you aren't doing it out of some weird feeling that you're Obligated to continuously improve. These pieces all look like you had genuine fun making them, and that's not something you get when you're forcing yourself through the motions.
In less serious news when you started sketching Mosskit and just had them face down in the snow I audibly chortled. It's not funny but it's very funny.

I agree with this completely! I’ve started to chillax with my art for the past year (avoiding going over the top with details and allowing stuff it be a little messy, which does fit my style since I do a lot of digital crayon styled pieces!) and it’s been so fun! I can just focus on creating fun pictures I like rather than stressing if it’s too messy and if I should add a lot of details

The improvement from 2022 to 2024 is absolutely insane, especially with the brilliant colors, backgrounds, posing, and just general composition. I am in love with the pieces of art so so much and I aspire to have such talent
Bruhhh, I never had much care for Spottedleaf’s second death, but your redraw here completely changed my whole perspective on it. Firestar desperately clinging to her as she slips away from him for the second and last time…quite literally being pulled away into nothingness…Absolutely gorgeous and so very heartbreaking in a way I never anticipated. The improvement here has me floored.

I love Mosskit and Badgerfang's drawings! They feel so somber and isolated compared to the others. Feathertail may be alone in her piece but no cat would jump into a falling stalactite if not to save someone else. Even though Mosskit had her family in her drawing, she truly looks abandoned in it.
Though looking at her, I can't help but think it looks like she's faceplanted into the snow lmao
The way you drew the cats in Cinerpelts drawing really made me jealous or your style! I’ve always aimed for more realism in my art, but I have a hard time getting the proportions of the face right. Either the muzzle is too big or small, or the same problem with the eyes. Thanks so much for making this video! It actually helped me get a better idea of cat anatomy haha.

I think, out of all of these, Mosskit's gets to me the most. seeing the poor kitten face down in the snow, a life barely lived snuffed out, while its mother and siblings continue on without it, the snow covering its body bit by bit, just crushes me. I have a sensitivity to cat death in general, but that one. that one *really* got me. very well done on all them! you've improved a ton!!
I love how Badgerfang looks a little bit like he's in a nest now. It makes the scene even more tragic
I love the colors you used, it's so vibrant compared to previous drawings! Feathertail has got to be my favorite this time around.
The two kit ones.. dang. They arent even real cats but the way Mosskit just has her face down in the snow, it really does portray that "lifeless" feel.
Reevaluating warriors as an adult and realizing the (likely accidental) colonialist vibes it can give off is such a mood 😭 also i adore these pieces, it feels like you have really developed both a well thought out style and philosophy to your art the longer youve gone on and its really inspiring to see :)
There’s definitely improvement in your drawings, but not just in the way you compose the pieces or depict the characters. There’s also a development in the storytelling!!
Take the Feathertail piece for instance. In the 2014 and 2020 pieces you had Feathertail falling facing the ceiling, and in 2022 and 2024 you changed it to be more realistic and true to a cat leaping and not having time to twist its body around. That’s poetry.
And seeing the progress between your Spottedleaf pieces, it felt like watching a sequence with Firestar finding her, the two talking to each other, Spottedleaf reassuring him, and then her finally passing away.
It’s genuinely impressive how you’ve managed to incorporate new ideas and techniques into your art and bringing it to life in so many ways! :D
I have to give props to you that you ended up doing this again! Knowing you have been animating and drawing also other stuff out of Warrior Cats stuff, your talent in doing cats is just as incredible and I do see improvement on each piece you did this year! ❤
I have to specifically mention that your improvement in matching the detailing of characters *and* the backgrounds is INCREDIBLE!

I feel like no one ever recognizes that amazing artists like Northflowo didn’t just pop out of the womb with insane talent, they earned it. Sometimes I hate my art so much, but I feel like every time that happens, someone pops up in my RUclips notifications mentioning how much they love my art. Some people on the internet are jerks, a fact proven time and time again, but some people keep your morale going.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING MORE WARRIOR CATS CONTENT! I was disappointed and kinda sad that you had suddenly shifted over to Rainworld because i didn’t even know what it is, but either way, this improvement was AMAZING. I swear to GOD, one day your art pieces will literally be in an art museum. And I genuinely agree that warrior cats should’ve had more stuff contributing to forest cats building their own religions and such. The first series was honestly the best one, leaning into the world-building-together kind of story. But then it just kinda got tangled up into the stupid stuff where it’s only about StarClan and the dark forest and some dumb stuff and there’s not much to see anymore.
P.S: i actually didn’t think fat Spottedleaf was a bad thing, I argue that it’s actually a good thing, as if she’s curled up and dying, and not F*CKING STRETCHING OUT. Also next time you draw these, make sure to add a little bit of Sharptooth’s body in there as well. You don’t have to draw his whole body, just make sure he’s somewhere in there as Feathertail falls with the stalactite on top of him.
my HC for most starclan cats is that they're all slightly overweight or chubby from the good hunting in starclan. dark forest cats are skin and bones while permanently suffering from the illness or injury that killed them (ie hawkfrost have the stake permanently in his neck, tigerstar walks around trying to keep his innards from becoming his outards because scourge straight up gutted him, mapleshade still has teats and a slightly fat body from suckling kits and recovering from birth, plus a permanently bleeding neck wound that killed her etc). i am so thrilled to see chubby spottedleaf!! fourth one is absolutely my favourite improvement. its so tragic and desolate and SAD, even more so than badgerpaw's death.

Each time one of these comes out I think “it can’t really get better than this, these drawings are amazing” but then another comes along and I am proven very wrong. The amount of improvement with just two years here is wild
Badgerfang hits deep and always has, ever since I read it the first time. The OG team had TALENT and they sucked me into the series. I tear up just thinking about the little guy. :,)
Your Mosskit drawing is phenomenal and honestly, the finished product _oozes_ heartbreak and abandonment. A little dead kitten in a snowstorm and its mother walking away, her hunkered form barely visible and fresh tracks still showing in the fiercely falling flakes. I like how the light shines on Mosskit as if the moon is peeking out through the clouds and shining down through the bare trees to that tiny little place while Bluefur continues a dark, cold, and untrodden path.
And then Badgerfang peacefully sleeping exCEPT HE'S NOT SLEEPING. MY BOI--
Mosskit's drawing is gut-wrenching. The composition and lighting is beautiful. In September 2022 I rescued 2 5-week-old kittens from the outdoors. Seeing what could've been their fate had no one found them brokemy heart. Now they're 1.5 years old, and have a nice warm home for years to come
I love the feathertail drawing is a giant step up, since I’ve not reached her death in the books, I thought she fell off a floating stone lmao, but the newest piece shows amazing motion of the stone fall, because there are those shattered pieces at the top instead of the side
I love these, not just because it’s good art, but because you’re doing it every two years progressively like duolingo is holding you hostage for it
normally im actually not a huge fan of warrior cats and realism but i really like the way you did it for these drawings. i often dont like it because i find people focus more on the realism than the characters and it takes away from their personality, but you still preserved that in your drawings and it lead to an overall improvement since the colours, lighting, and details came together so well :)
This is undeniable proof that we need more North Warriors Content.

I adore the use of colours in these recent drawings! The sorrow in the Mosskit one, the chaos in Cinderpelt's, the drama that is in Feathertail's... very well done!
I think this is my sign from the heavens to reread Warriors. I just went through all my book boxes and sorted them out onto shelves, and seeing all the books really made me want to go and read them again.
The badger paw redraw is really so wonderfully done, the colors and lighting/shadows are amazing and help convey the emotion of the scene so well! The cat themselves is very realistic and the anatomy is very lifelife!

north, you have honestly inspired me so much as an artist, i dont even like warriors, never read a single book in my life. i subbed to you a long time ago because your art was a HUGE inspiration to me, iv also been really working to improve my art this year, and just seeing these piece's make me feel so inspired and happy. the consents your talking about are also stuff iv been trying to work on, and watching you draw is such a wonderful learning experience. i love the fact that your keeping to this challenge every year for so long now, you have grown so much as an artist and it is truly inspiring to see you come so far. i cant wait to see what this year has in store for you! iv been watching you since the first time you redrew these piece's, and every single year you continue to impress me even more and more with how fricken talented you are!!!!

Okay, first of all, it’s AMAZING to see how much you’ve improved over the years, and I must say that I was even starting feel a bit emotional when you were talking about how new artists should just keep drawing because it will help them improve either way. Something I did notice is that each drawing, from the first to the last, looks almost like a sequence of action! Like for the Feathertail drawing it’s almost like a slow-mo of her reaching out towards the stalagtite, for the Badgerfang one it’s like he’s slowly curling up on the grass and accepting death, and for the Spottedleaf on it’s like she’s saying her last goodbye before falling limp and fading away. All in all, I love your art and the improvements you’ve made are incredible!

I'd say my favorite piece out of all the ones you made this time around has to be the one of Badgerpaw. It looks so good! The lighting really adds a dark and dim type mood that really gets me. The shades of green are so beautiful and the detail on the grass is gorgeous. Seeing Badgerpaw look so cute while also being dead is heartbreaking.

Outstanding! Your artwork is amazing. Each drawing I felt the emotion you incorporated into the scene. Like the Cinderpelt drawing you can feel the tension and chaos! And in the Mosskit one I can tell as Bluefur/Bluestar is patting away I can feel her unbearable grief.. And just how the snow has beautiful shading!

This was actually pretty inspiring! I've drawn pretty much exclusively characters my whole life so I have zero experience with lighting and backgrounds, but seeing you deal with the same struggle and come out with these absolute masterpieces makes me want to practice more!

ive never ever stopped to take a look into the warriors cats lore, but i remember seeing animation memes and fanart all over including yours and of course being the good art kid i was, cats angsty art was something i was always down for
I remember watching all the previous remakes (most of the time not having read warriors lol) and now there's the 2024 one and hello???? the genuine improvement???? I love the way you drew the cats, and the backgrounds are amazing! I've got to say, my favorite has to be badgerkit/fang. I think I remember in the last remake realizing that the 'broken star' thing wad a callback to brokenstar, and with the new composition with the star shadow and the blood being the crack, I like to think that it's sort of an 'omen' to Brokenstar. Badgerkit's blood being the cracks in the star is almost like the ones Brokenstar killed are the real reason he is BROKENstar. I don't think I worded this right but I think I got the point across 😭😭😭
