Whithin 1,5 years mine broke 3 times. Last time straight out of the box. Swatch group told me that i had overwound the main spring and that it was not under garanty. But i told them that nowhere in their description was an explanation of how to wind the watch correctly. Took me 4 month and lots of emails but at the end they made it under garanty. Now i wind it every morning not more than 20 times, short rotations. I hope it would last... If you have the same problem; hang on and don't give up!
Ughhh, I just had the same thing happen to me. Only a month old, rarely worn and always carefully wound. Really hoping I can get it repaired under the dealer or manufacturer's warranty.
There’s way to many instances of this happening. This is unacceptable from a major company like Hamilton. I’ve never heard of this issue with the regular ETA movement. It seems they did something when they modified it to have a longer power reserve that makes it much more fragile. I think this issue is really hurting their brand. They need to either fix the design flaw or go back to using the unmodified ETA movement.
I had the same problem, I took it to the Hamilton technical service and they realized that the rope was broken, they proceeded to change the whole mechanism and from that moment the watch works very well
I think we all appreciate your insight on a watch that you don't own. It is virtually impossible to overwind a modern manual winding movement without a pliers or otherwise intentionally trying to do so. On older movements, just wind slowly as tension builds and do not continue to wind when it gets very tight or stops winding., so it's almost impossible to overwind it unless I do so deliberately -- and even then, rather difficult without pliers or other tools.
You probably don’t understand how a H-50 movement work. It is a hand wound mechanical movement and can definitely be overwound. Judging by your comment, i guess it is you who broke the watch for lack of knowledge of the movement
Yeah, it's a pity. I heard one of the problems is to get an 80-hour power reserve they made the mainspring thinner and stiffer, which makes it more prone to breaking. A deal breaker for me.

Thank you for this video! It answered my questions... My Hamilton Khaki just broke in this exact way this morning. I've had it for 8 years. And now I don't know what to do, since I got it from Amazon.
Maybe. Why do you think I never had this problem with the other hamiltion and all my other watches? Do you think when hamiltion made the barrel bigger to give it more power reserve made the watch fragile?
Last March, I bought a Hamilton khaki aviation 46mm. Straight from the box it stopped working unless I gently tapped on it and it would only run for a few minutes. I sent it in for warranty repair and it took two months to fix. I got it back in May, and it worked but after a few months when I'd wind it, I noticed the weight started spinning in response as I wound it. Eventually, it started grinding as I wound it and finally felt like the gear broke because as I wound it nothing would happen. It's Back to the swatch group now awaiting service. It's literally been at Swatch more than on my wrist. Not happy.
Owned a mechanical 38mm for several years. Bought for the purpose for which it was originally intended. Not a single problem. Except maybe the lume is a little bit of a disappointment.
I don’t know it’s quite an interesting problem. I got the Hamilton khaki automatic and have loved it ever since. I wanted the mechanical ⚙️ one as well, but I think that desire has diminished.

Took it in thinking it would be covered under warranty but no. They want $200 to repair it. Fu_k Swatch and their money grab. They took it to give me a free service and within 2 weeks got it sent back to me. Not the best feeling to pick up a watch thats broken right out of the box.
I've heard of the same problem from several sources. Mine, thankfully, has been sturdy, and I haven't babied the winding too much. Now that I've heard these stories I've begun to wind it just a little bit slower and more carefully, just in case. I've fallen in, out, and back in love with the design. At first it was awesome, then a little later I fell out of love with it, even considered selling it. It seemed just, too uninspiring. Now I've been wearing it daily again. I think it's just the size of it, it's comfortable on wrist but still well legible. Many of my other smaller ones aren't as easy to read, unless they're digital... But then I do love an analogue watch, I find it gives me a slightly better sense of time.

I bought mine used off Craigslist and works amazing. I only wind it every so often and never to maximum
He overwound the movement and snapped the mainspring. They make an automatic version of it, he should look into that version. You can’t overwind an automatic.
Ive not used it for about 2 months but was running fine last time I used it. I'm always worried everytime I wind it its going to brake. I like my timex better.
Seems like you overwound the mainspring. The watch applies a mechanical resistance when it’s fully wound, that’s when you need to stop. I’m guessing you went over that resistance by applying more force and broke the mainspring
Ich bin auch sehr enttäuscht von dieser Uhr. Sie ist sehr kantig und trägt sich grösser als sie ist. Ich habe sie bereits wieder zum Verkauf angeboten. Freundliche Grüsse
Mine broke 11 months after purchase. Each day I would wind the watch fully until I felt resistance to turning the crown. When you wind the crown, you can hear an audible "clicking" sound. It ran well and was very accurate. One day, while winding, suddenly the "clicking" sound quit but the crown would still turn. I continued to turn the crown and a couple times and I heard a "pop" and could feel the mainspring unwinding. Since it came with a 2 year warranty I returned it to the dealer who sent the watch off to be repaired. A month later the watch was repaired and returned. The repair notes from the watchmaker said the watch had a broken ratchet wheel screw due to over winding. The watchmaker went on to say that "the crown should only be turned about 35 times per day or the screw will break again". Normally, when I wind the watch each day, it would have resistance at somewhere between 40-48 turns. I would just wind it until I felt the resistance and stop. Now I baby the watch and never put more than 30 turns on the crown each day. So far no problems. I wouldn't have thought you would overwind a mechanical watch if you merely wound it until resistance each day.
Why do you think he is not honest about his watch? He owns the the older Hamilton h694190, which has the ETA-2804-2 Caliber which has only 42 hours power reserve. It has the old, durable spring. The here shown watch has the new version with the thinner spring and 21600 Hz which gives 80 hours of power reverve but has the big problem with the worse durability.
He's not honest about anything, He is a weasel and a fraud. Watch Box sacked him for stealing customers. He plagerizes comments on his vids (and) other material. He is a snake. He always was. In person he is an angry arogant snob.
I believe Hamilton stands by their products. You complain and gain some notoriety but not credibility. Send it back to Hamilton and let them repair the watch.
In the video, he already explained that he had one it broke and this is the replacement, and it broke the exact same way. These movements are known to do that. It’s something that Hamilton need to look at because this happens to a lot of people
I don't think they are all that once Hamilton is out of warranty, they make hard to repair. My local watch maker says Swatch or Hamilton won't sell watch maker parts. When ,not if it breaks, you need to send to their service department and probably pay more than the watch is worth.I will never again own Hamilton!
Ahhh..I feel you. I’ve seen most of the videos about this watch saying it’s the best affordable field Watch..but, poor lume, low water resistance, no AR coating? Not everybody is being honest..
I think we all appreciate your insight on a watch that you don't own. On older movements, just wind slowly as tension builds and do not continue to wind when it gets very tight or stops winding., so it's almost impossible to overwind it unless I do so deliberately -- and even then, rather difficult without pliers or other tools.
You own one that why you need to watch a video about a watch on your wrist. go figure! This watch is now known for having this problem but as a "owner" you would know it braking. Didn't you know that as a "owner" go figure!
I thought about buying one of these until I heard about people having issues with it. I got a Timex MK1 mechanical for half the price and it's been great.
I've never understood why these are so popular. Ridiculously long lugs, with crappy AR coating and horrible lume. Not to mention the most boring dial and an ugly dull finishing on the case. 🤢🤮
Hamilton Watches are junk! People read the hype and follow it like sheep. They are made by Swatch group, meaning everything is done as cheap as possible. For example saffire glass is arced and ugly, not double domed to save on milling costs. Then you have the cheap case geometry, again cheap and easy to mill. They are also too fragile. I have had better, more durable MWC G10's watches that lasted 8 years before needing service, and thats a fact! I wont start on the movements, sub standard ETA's and soon even worse Stilettas. Damasko was same. Dont buy junk.
I made note of the serial number before sending it back. I don't think they would go to the trouble of opening the back case swapping it for another then swap all the paperwork with serial numbers, but they might so always note the number.
Apparently this problem occurs with the first manufactured batches, it is for this reason that Hamilton is changing the mechanisms for new ones that no longer present this fault.
@@TheNomadsLens It's weird to see a fight going on under my comment, but RUclips isn't showing me any of the other comments but yours. Kind of looks like shadow boxing :D
Yep @darrenare trying to get you into the 8 month fight he has with me but now one is helping him so he has to use Jandoor and his fake ID to comment on his comment then delete his comments. I'm repkying to every comment he has made so if you don't want to get notices everyday for the next few years you're free to delete your comment.
@@TheNomadsLens Usually I find it best to just ignore mean people on the internet and forget about them. But then again Idon't know you guys' situation. Anyways happy holidays man!
If you want this watch, buy the older Version with the ETA 2804-2. It has the old spring and is nerly indestructible.
I agree.
You can't buy the new versions with the H movements. They're modified Selitas, which are already a knockoff of the ETAs.
watch marketing is all about the photography and the hype. I had the same experience when i almost bought the Speedmaster. Put it on and.....nope....its all about wearing the watch before purchase dont rely on videos and pictures thats false.also of course you don't want to wear it, you've had a s**t experience. I bought mine used off Craigslist and works amazing. I only wind it every so often and never to maximum
I have had this exact watch for a year with 0 problems. You just got a bad one.
He overwound the movement and snapped the mainspring. They make an automatic version of it, he should look into that version. You can’t overwind an automatic.
And what is the follow up now?
Ive not used it for about 2 months but was running fine last time I used it. I'm always worried everytime I wind it its going to brake. I like my timex better.
What brand is that chronograph? And reference number please
Here is video review for the chrongraph.

What was the other watch in the video?
There are two

or this

I would think it’s worth £25
Seems like you overwound the mainspring. The watch applies a mechanical resistance when it’s fully wound, that’s when you need to stop. I’m guessing you went over that resistance by applying more force and broke the mainspring
Cant. It has fail safe overwind now.
This is exactly why i stick with my old Khaki 9415a..
what is that chinese watch I really dig it
This one

Ich bin auch sehr enttäuscht von dieser Uhr. Sie ist sehr kantig und trägt sich grösser als sie ist. Ich habe sie bereits wieder zum Verkauf angeboten. Freundliche Grüsse
Looks like a nice watch!..... Hope Hamilton improve asap
Likely they send you back the same watch
That’s why I love quartz
Thats why I loved vintage ETA. Swatch Group SUCKS!
When is the review coming?
I'll give it 6 months of wear
I wouldn't have thought you would overwind a mechanical watch if you merely wound it until resistance each day.
i wish TGV would be honest about this watch
The people who suck up to brands for free watches are never honest.
@@TheNomadsLens TGV has the older version with the better caliber.
He's not honest about anything, He is a weasel and a fraud. Watch Box sacked him for stealing customers. He plagerizes comments on his vids (and) other material. He is a snake. He always was. In person he is an angry arogant snob.
Just give it a gentle shake
I’ve had mine for a good bit. It’s not at all accurate and it just hasn’t connected with me for some reason. Maybe it’s the inaccuracy.
didn't your father or grandfather teach you how to wind up a watch properly?
No they didn't. How do you wind a modern watch? I'm guessing you have a quartz watch. G shock?
@@TheNomadsLens Although I only have a seiko automatic watch, I am very sure you should just wind it by turning the crown for like 10 or 15 times
Was going to buy one not now thanks
I have two khaki fields which perform perfectly, just bought a third for my dad for Christmas and it was dead on arrival in the box
I had the same problem!
Junk!!! Mine, whithin 1 year broken! My Bulova hack miyota runing like a horse!
Deffo a busted mainspring, I had it happen to me on a Datejust unfortunately
You just got unlucky.
Lay off the steroids there Hercules you over wind it? 😮
I hope you got it handled.
Turning the crown 2 times is over winding it? What drugs are you on? Do your reseach this movement is know to have fault.
I believe Hamilton stands by their products. You complain and gain some notoriety but not credibility. Send it back to Hamilton and let them repair the watch.
I did. Maybe you should watch the follow up videos before commenting. What did you think I was just going to bin it and not send it back?
In the video, he already explained that he had one it broke and this is the replacement, and it broke the exact same way. These movements are known to do that. It’s something that Hamilton need to look at because this happens to a lot of people
I don't think they are all that once Hamilton is out of warranty, they make hard to repair. My local watch maker says Swatch or Hamilton won't sell watch maker parts. When ,not if it breaks, you need to send to their service department and probably pay more than the watch is worth.I will never again own Hamilton!
Just had this happen to me after 3 weeks of wear. Not sure if I should get it fixed or just return it
Im sure they will try and say you wound it to much. If they do point them to this video. Such a shame they are messing up a great watch.
Ahhh..I feel you. I’ve seen most of the videos about this watch saying it’s the best affordable field
Watch..but, poor lume, low water resistance, no AR coating? Not everybody is being honest..
A lot suck up to brands so they can get free watches. Even people who say honest review.
YOU broke it
by using it lol
So hundreds have broken their watch rubbish it’s crap
shouldn't winding every day , I have my working perfect winding every 4,5 days
why shouldn't winding every day?
Worst watch ever.
New Hamilton is, yes. His other one will fail too. Its evenworse and can only be fixed by them if they choose too.
you overwound it... twice LOL
@@TheNomadsLens I do own one, you stop winding when you feel palpable resistance, go figure!
You own one that why you need to watch a video about a watch on your wrist. go figure! This watch is now known for having this problem but as a "owner" you would know it braking. Didn't you know that as a "owner" go figure!
Oh BTW as a "owner" maybe you can make a video how to wind it. I'm sure people would like to know from a "owner" No? go figure!
@@TheNomadsLens Why would I make a video? when people can just read the instructions... simples! oh yeah sorry forgot about you LOL
I thought about buying one of these until I heard about people having issues with it. I got a Timex MK1 mechanical for half the price and it's been great.
I just bought the MK1. Great watch.
🤣
I think you over wind it and broke the mecanism...I got one for 5 years and it works like first day
Your watch has the old movement whoch is better then the new.
I have the H-10 movement with no issues.
Thats great that you didn't but I did as well as many others.
Likely they send you back the same watch
I made note of the serial number before sending it back. I don't think they would go to the trouble of opening the back case swapping it for another then swap all the paperwork with serial numbers, but they might so always note the number.
