Michael reminded me of a great memory. My late mother was by biggest fan when it came to my drumming and love of music. I had just purchased "Van Halen II" on its release date and was listening to it with a couple of my friends in our living room. A couple tracks in my mom walked in from the kitchen and said, "Oh, is that the new Van Halen? Sounds good but I still love "Jamie's Crying" more". First of all, the look on my friend's faces was priceless and second, it showed me how my mom was paying attention to the music I was listening to.
1)I'm The One/Atomic Punk 2) Women In Love/Bottoms Up 3)Romeo Delight/Take Your Whisky Home 4) Sinner's Swing/ Sunday Afternoon 5) Little Guitars/Intruder 6) Drop Dead Legs/ 1984
Haven't listened to VH for a while, but for a period of time they were my favorite band. Here are my picks: VH: Ain't Talkin' 'bout Love - best VH song ever!!!! "Worst" - Feel Your Love VH II: Light Up the Sky ; - Outta Love Again WACF: In A Simple Rhyme ; - Tora! Tora! Loss of Control Fair Warning: Mean Street ; - One Foot Out the Door Diver Down: Secrets ; - The Full Bug 1984: Panama/Drop Dead Legs ; - Hot For Teacher
The Nicollette Larson guest vocal makes sense, as Eddie Van Halen made a guest appearance, albeit anonymously, on the song Can't Get Away From You from her debut album Nicollette (also produced by Ted Templeman). Cheers!
Interesting fact,in the late 90s.VH had songs with 5 different vocalists = Hagar on Humans Being / Roth on the 2 new tracks on the hits compilation / Cherone + Edward on VH3 / Anthony doing Somebody Get Me A Dr. during live shows.
I'll list favorite then least favorite in reverse order of release...As Is/Tattoo..House of Pain/Panama.. Little Guitars/Dancing..One Foot Out The Door/Push Comes To Shove.. Everybody Wants Some/Could This Be Magic..D.O.A./You're No Good..On Fire/Little Dreamer....My only other "hot take" regarding VH besides disliking Panama is actually liking VH3 more than Carnal.
@@diamondd2778 I liked Mine All Mine and a few others from OU812, Judgement Day + Dream Is Over from Carnal, likewise Balance is good other than the singles ...From VH3 i liked The opening into One I Want, Without You ,Fire In The Hole..No horrible albums , i just prefer DLR era.
Best? I'm the One - Just the energy and speed yet still fun. Beautiful Girls - Just a great pop/rock song. Romeo Delight - Raw and catchy. Unchained - Metal with a David Lee Roth twist. Little Guitars - Had this been on a more "popular record". I think it would be up there with any of the classics. Hot for Teacher! - Just the speed and fun energy. Bullethead - Short, heavy and sweet "Worst"? You Really Got Me - Probably my most daring choice. I just never cared for it that much. It's fine. You're No Good - Sounds like a b-side version of Runnin' with the Devil AND it's a cover song. I think the album should have opened with something else too. Tora! Tora! - I hated this at first. Now I sort of liking it but still an easy pick. One Foot Out the Door - The last two songs on the album are short and while okay it sounds like the album was rushed. They could have made a stronger ending tracks. Dancing in the Street - Cool riff but doesn't go anywhere for me. It seems like this version could been a lot better. House of Pain - It's fine but nothing I really return to without listening to the whole album. The Trouble with Never - The issue with this album is some of David Lee Roths voice and the production. This song suffers from both! The big difference between DLR and Sammy Hagar era is that the DLR-albums are quite consistent. The Sammy Hagar are peaks and valleys. I like some of the Hagar era just as much as DLR but if I would rank every Van Halen track.. Most at the bottom would be from Sammy.
My first ever live chat was on Grant's channel talking about how much I despised both the VH and Ronstadt versions of You're No Good on otherwise great albums from both... Exactly right about the DLR LPs being more consistent, while the Hagar and Cherone stuff have phenomenal highs and also mediocre lows.
