All sphinx are hairless cats, but not all hairless cats are sphinxs
Yep. There are Donskoy, Peterbald, Minskin (who have "hair points", but the body is hairless), and a short-legged Bambino (Sphynx-Munchkin cross). There have been hairless Siamese also, which Vanessa mentioned in the video. Sometimes Devon Rex can be nearly hairless, and that breed contributed to the Sphynx. (Jan Griffiths).
Forgot Elf and Dwelf cats also. I've even seen a a Persian who was born hairless. There was another from Hawaii called the Kohana cat, but I believe it's extinct. (Jan Griffiths).
Yeah, this, 100%. What the owner told her is not correct. A hairless cat that occurs naturally in another breed would NOT be called a Sphynx, which is a distinct and specific breed with breed conformation traits. Saying any hairless cat is a Sphynx is kind of like saying any dog with blue eyes is a Husky. :)

so very well behaved! he almost falls asleep on your lap when you’re checking the nail beds, and most of his vocal complaints seem to be when he’s being held away from you.

Idk, I didn't find them particularly cute but honestly, for me as long as it's a cat, it's cute. And then, at one contact cat exhibition I met a hairless cat. It wasn't an exhibition that sold cats, more of a showcase, similar to a cat cafe in manner. That cat just made me love hairless cats 200% more (I already liked them). An absolutely sweet and cute catto who climbed on my mom's shoulder and started to lick himself clean 😂

I own 2 spyhnx and they are the most affectionate cats all my 2 want to do is be sitting on me or next to me and snuggle. They are a high maintenance breed but the reward of all the maintenance is pure love and dedication 😊

My old lady rescue cat 21 yrs & I have had very intense conversations over all of those years. Nowadays she rarely stands up, but we will have our evening chats , I am going to miss her a lot 😢

I had a cat that had an ear hematoma before i adopted him. It healed all bent up. I had to clean rhat ear regularly too. But he loved it. It was like an ear massage for an ear he couldnt move well.
Our adopted cat has a deformed ear, and I try to clean it too. He doesn't like it unfortunately lol

Oh my god, he is the CUTEST little thing! I've been so into hairless cats since I met a Sphynx named Harry that I became obsessed with. They have the best personalities! They are like dogs, but without all of the shedding and barking. They are extremely tolerant and affectionate. And they never stop purring. They purr ALL the time.❤❤
Maybe purrs help generate heat, too?

@@phoenixfire8978 yes Luna wasn't best pleased when she realised I was watching another cat. She used to put herself between me and the phone until she realised I was holding it up higher, now she just climbs up and gets right in my face 😅😅
My cat charged over to see who was being abused. However she's not too bright and couldn't figure out that the kitten was on my tablet. She checked around to see if she could find the meower, did a cat shrug and left.
@@kathleenspellman5658 I remember years ago in the UK whiskas released a cat food video that was designed for cats to watch instead of humans. One of my cats back then was literally behind the tv looking for the bowl of food 😂😂 She was so confused when there wasn't any she was meowing at me!

This is a common type of expression and not intended to be condescending in any way. It is okay for someone to not like things, it isn’t a diss or anything to be upset over. Yes it was “technically” unnecessary for them to emphasize what they were saying, but the first part was included for that very reason. Your overreaction is antisocial and strange.

Hi Vanessa! One small thing you can potentially add to your sphynx grooming appointments: cleaning out nose crud. A lot of grease/dirt can collect in the corners of the nostrils that is really easy to miss (especially on a dark colored cat line mine). I just use a wipe and the edge of a fingernail to gently wipe out the offending dried up boogers.

Saint Hubert is also the name of an animal shelter founded by Geraldine Dodge in Madison, NJ. All dogs I’ve had including my current dog Molly were rescues from there. They also rescue cats.

I never realized that they are so high maintenance!! Because they have no fur, the skin oils have nowhere to go so you have to keep bathing them every few days! Or maybe even every day!! I'm sure they get used to it and cooperate but still.

The broader Internet says to bathe hairless cats weekly, (daily or every other day would absolutely destroy their skin) but most sphynx owners actually only bathe their cats whenever they are actually dirty. In fact, many argue that bathing too frequently actually causes them to be more oily due to over-drying the skin.
Like any other cat, they do need their nailbeds cleaned and nails trimmed, and their ears can get gunky and need to be cleaned out as needed.
As a proud sphynx momma myself (I have a 1 year old female tortie elf sphynx), I only bathe her maybe every other month or so. I use a pet safe wipe to clean her paws and the rest if she looks a little dingy, and that works extremely well. I have yet to see her looking extremely oily.
I do need to clean her ears fairly regularly, and obviously trim the nails, but otherwise I wouldn't call her high maintenance at all. To me, it's just the things you need to do when you have a pet.
What I will say is that anyone should do their research when looking into acquiring any animal and have an understanding of the tasks required to keep them healthy and happy, along with getting an idea of what to expect from different breeds, while also being aware that each individual animal is a unique individual at the same time.
I will also say that, as a breed, sphynxs are some of the most loyal, affectionate, intelligent cats on earth!! Mine is the definition of a Velcro kitty, she's always glued to my side. As I write this, she's sleeping in my lap. She chases her tail and plays fetch like a dog, she greets me at the door whenever I come home from anywhere, she loves giving her daddy head bonks and purrs. If she's "high maintenance", then she's worth it because she's literally the sweetest, most amazing cat on the planet!!

You are correct!
The Sphinx cat is actually just Devon Rex, American Shorthairs and Domestic shorthairs but hairless! They are a recent bred from only 1970s, but the project was abandoned and recently picked up.
Now, Sphynx cats in order to recognized, they have to have come from ONE OF THE FOUR CATS ORIGINAL CATS and both have to have Sphynx parents (which means inbreeding, sadly). They said it would take effect after December 31, 2023. So a lot of people are going to be disappointed because they have negated pretty much all hairless cats because of those restrictions. The more ya know! :)

Their ears are essentially funnels, yeah! You aren't able to clean yourself, your body isn't able to keep itself clean, either. Needing weekly baths is the worst case scenario for a cat.

ive always loved hairless cats because at the end of the day, thats what ALL cats look like without their fur! and to me i just see those big eyes and sweet faces and i just adore them. it breaks my heart when people say hairless cats are ugly

@@ItsJustLisa it’s a famous restaurant chain in Québec and parts of Ontario and New Brunswick. Originated in Montréal on Saint-Hubert Street (hence its name). It is not fast food, more like a Applebee’s type of place. Specialized in BBQ chicken.
