- Lyrics
I saw a girl on a Northern dance floor
She looked sixteen, she could have been more
I went to her thinking only of romance
But when the band played, man, I didn't stand the chance
All she wanna do was
Dance, dance, dance, you ought to see her dance
Dance, dance, dance, move over, give her a chance
Well, the people all stood around
Watching her lay it down
She could dance, dance, dance the night away
I tried to show some genuine affection
Could be a chance of a close connection
I didn't know she was there for just one thing
'Cos when the band played, man, you ought to see her swing
Swing down easy
Dance, dance, dance, you ought to see her dance
Dance, dance, dance, move over, give her a chance
Well, the people all stood around
Watching her lay it down
She could dance, dance, dance the night away
And when the dance was nearly over
I decided I was really gonna show her
I took a drink and I went to join the fun
That's when the fun had just begun
And when the band played, man, I was second to none
Dance, dance, dance, you ought to see me dance
Dance, dance, dance, move over, give me a chance
Well, the people all stood around
Watching me lay it down
'Cos I could dance, dance, dance the night away
Dance, dance, dance the night away
Dance, dance, dance the night away
Dance, dance, Watusi baby
Dance, dance, funky mofa
Dance, dance, read your Sunday papers
Dance, dance, Desperate Dan's
Dance, dance, shake it, baby
Dance, dance, rock n roll
Dance, dance, see you later .... Видеоклипы
Man takes you back, much better days than young folks now RIP.. dean
"Read your Sunday Papers" at the end always amuses me. As they're referring to an incident that got them in the Sunday papers but far from hurting them, it meant they were back in the news... The papers said they didn't expect that behaviour from a group that promoted the boy next door image.... Marmalade's reply "who knows what the boy next door does, when he thinks no one else is watching".... Just Brilliant.
Love this and the b side Sarah was brilliant too.
Those are some good boys. How precious to see that smile on Dean Ford’s and watching him dance around. That guy was a gem. The whole band is awesome.
my young years were always close to the band and songs performed by Marmalade.
I like this! good words music and smile.
Great shout man...enjoy
One of the first 45s that I bought. About 50p. Well worth it in any rock collection. Great guitaring riffs and drum beat. Heard this song before Quo, but was also listening to early Sabbath, Purple and Led Zep. Reminds me of my youthful days. Marmalade were a great band.
I remember recording this song off radio 1 on audio cassette from the Stuart Henry show who sadly passed away soon after with MS and was blown away and still love this song as much today as way back then.
OMG 1969, how can this just jump into my head after all these years? No way I heared it on the radio, no one ever plays this.
Hey....I play this alot. The boys are having a good time. Wish I was there with them.
@@gridman3851 Yeah, I had a jam of it on my guitar, so simple, yet so good.
1972 not 1969
Happy memories dancing away ! X
complete with false ending, brilliant number.
I was lying on my bed and this song came into my head. I have not heared this since it was released. How the heck did this song just jump into my head after all these years. Lucky for me I knew the words so it was easy to find. I don't remember it rocking like this though.
I was ten years old and watched them makin this promo in 1971 in caldicot castle in south walea.
I presume they filmed "Sarah" there too? Tiger.
You really can't do any better than Marmalade. I got into them in a big way 20 years ago. My evening ritual was to watch hockey games on TV and sing and then put Marmalade on afterwards. I heard this song for the first time around then and I went "Wow what a cool song!" It's stayed like that regarding my tastes. I listen to a lot of music, but it has to be melodic. If that goes out the window leave me out!
The drummer Dougie Henderson is staying at my house on Gigha for a few days.
Had forgotten this one-what a great song, super guitars, drums & rustle of the tambourine with wonderful harmonies. Just fab x
Far and away their best single.
Oh man their very best was Reflections.
really good rocker from a great band.
Gracias radio jr aqp. Mi adolescencia 2006 con todo 🇵🇪
Such a good record.
great riff great song
woah...this reminds me a LOT of Rubber Bullets...which was released 4 years later
...a wee bit Bay City Rollers there as well
written by Dean Ford and Hugh Nicholson
I've heard this many times and never once thought of Rubber Bullets, can't hear that song in this one. You may have a point with the Bay City Rollers thing though. The chorus is quite similar to their type of song.
Absolutely brilliant love the song
oh gosh this song takes me back...love love love it x
Absolutely LOVE this song!
Magical!!,.. they were so happy , the music was genuine, .. just like the Tremeloes, love Marmalade,.. btw I have 25 Alice Cooper albums , very creative guy ,.. what is going wrong in this world?
Great stuff
I LOVED this
I saw the current Marmalade band perform this at a Sixties concert a few months ago. Great song.
I like them since 1970's! Hugs!
@@voxdeorum Me too, we all considered Cromer their second home when they came down from Glasgow.
*
I bought this song on their Super Maxi Single at the Amsterdam V&D in February 1973.
There’s a glitch in this version - at 2:50. My single has the song time as 4:00.

Used to work with a guy around 1974 ish who swore this song was written about his girlfriend.
The original band marmalade are the best, riding the nostalgia tour of the marmalade band just isn't the same as the guy's that started it,loses something maybe it dean ford they always needed,he made it a band. Miss seeing you tour and sing the music you made famous especially since you wrote most of it.
Remember this at school
Me encantan de niña los escucho❤
KILLER ROCK
Monica's Weymouth anybody remember working at Pontins Riviera
CRACKING SONG
Get it on (T Rex)
Great
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I love the guitar riff in this song...totally 70s. LOVE 70s!!! This song would've sounded totally bad-ass if Paul Rodgers and Free had recorded it!!!
I raise a toast to them (geddit)
"Read the Sunday papers" on the fade is a sly reference to an expose 'sex' scandal about the band which had been in The News of the World newspaper at the time (the source for which had supposedly been the former drummer Alan Whitehead who had just left the group).
Shelley Lyme Hi Shelley×× Tried to find it on Google. No luck:( Would love to more. Thanks for the info, I love the Marmalade (with Dean of course) ♥Jess from Canada♡
@@labourdan All I could find was that the News Of The World had accused The Marmalade of offences against several young female fans. The band denied these charges.
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 🙋Thanks so much for trying Hanno😘🍻😊
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 No such thing as bad publicity!

Now I know where Oasis stole the intro to Cigarettes and Alcohol from🙄
What does "RA-dancer" mean?
As English is not my native language, and I do not speak it very well, I am sending a link that seems to clarify the meaning of the word. Hugs.
drunkennessofthingsbeingvarious.blogspot.com.br/2011/02/marmalade-radancer-1972-no-6-12-weeks.html
This band comes from Glasgow, Scotland. In many parts of Glasgow the word 'the' is spoken as 'ra' (basically it's lazy pronounciation) so Radancer is The Dancer.
Where is Hugh Nicholson in this video?
In the blue shirt - you don't see him very much. Video focusses mainly on Dean & Graham.
Peter McCarthy Ask Alan Whitehead on Facebook. He hated Hugh. He'd have no problem telling you about it.
Tiger Rogers Who cares about Hugh. He caused so much trouble in the band. Love Graham though♥
@@labourdan Graham was always my fave. He looks so happy & upbeat in this video!!
