  • My wife has a 2010 VW Golf with a 2.5L 5 Cyl engine. The EPC light recently started coming on almost daily. After a while once the EPC light comes on, it causes the car to go into "Limp Mode" at which time you have to stop, turn off the car and restart.
The cause of the EPC light illumination is often hard to diagnose. We took it to a VW Dealer Service Department. I discuss what happened and how they wanted to charge $ ten times what we ended up paying to fix the car.

That's the way to do it; find out what's wrong and leave the dealer in the dust! 👏

Cam and crank sensors can fail intermittently then eventually fail all together causing the vehicle to not start. In my 40 years as a Master Tech I have replaced very few MAP sensors but I’ve replaced a lot of failed cam or crank sensors including on my own vehicles. As far as the dealer not working on your vehicle ASAP it’s because dealers are being hit hard with a technician shortage ( younger people want to become RUclipsr’s) and influencers. The Dodge dealer the I worked at for 13 years is now starting master tech’s at $65 per but nobody’s applying for the positions. Great video and yeah find a trustworthy independent for your vehicles.

Dealer service departments have been ripping off customers forever. I remember seeing insanely-overpriced sensor replacements in the mid 1970s. Except for recalls, I haven't been to a dealer service department since the mid 1990s. Good independent mechanics are the way to go. I diagnose and fix the easier stuff myself.

My VW dealer wanted to charge me $600 for brake pads!
The next nearest dealer wanted $800 for pads and rotors.😮
Brake pads were $90 and took 1 1/2 hours to install with a rain storm interrupting before the second wheel was done.
I could see $200-300 for this service, but $600-800???!!!!!
